Say Yes To The Dress - General Discussion

I thought to myself: I hope the body builder fiancé and the helicopter fiancé don't meet. They will either realize they are related or in love. Both were odd.

Both dresses were awful.

I know I am in the minority, but I liked shay this episode.

1. I swear, if I was at Kleinfields and my consultant showed up as casual as Shay is, I'd ask for another consultant and I wouldn't care if he got mad or not. 2. For someone who claims to have been working in fashion, he certainly doesn't know how to dress for the job he has.

1.  Why is he allowed to dress so casually?

2.  For someone who claims to have been working in fashion, shouldn't he know the technical term for those "little thingies" on the sleeves of the dress?

Grand Canyon bride:  The wrap* seemed to clash with the dress, the cape may have looked nice over a different dress altogether, but clashed with this one, and the shoes were way too much (and ugly).  I'd like to see the lace part in all white, no cape, a plain white wrap (maybe not quite as poofy) and on someone smaller with a much smaller chest (with more coverage).  That might have been much better.

*My wedding dress was not traditional and was a coat with a train over a short dress, so I do like the style, but that one was too much and ill fitting.

The whole thing was so trashy and absurd. They are so unique you guys! They don't do things like everyone else you guys!

So yeah Loved it! So much pent up snark. Ah, I've missed you, show.

Oh Did they end up totaling up what her wedding outfit cost?

I was curious too on what the total price tag was to look like somebody's bad idea of a strip club Red Riding Hood bride.  What's Dolly Parton's classic line about it taking a lot of money to look that cheap?

Anytime somebody has to work that hard to tell me how unique and different they are I can usually count on two things: One, that they're substituting shock factor for legitimate preferences and interests, probably because there's nothing else about them that stands out, and two, that they don't have any understanding of when different is good and when they're being ganked into paying too much by someone who knows they don't know any better.  Sometimes something is unique for a reason, and anything cut to the point that it may put your areolas in your wedding photos probably qualifies.  I actually don't object to the idea of the cape (there's one in Randy's current collection that I would like if it wasn't paired with a ridiculously ordinary looking dress), but a wedding romper?  Who knew that the sooo self-important wedding planner a few episodes back in her blue skies and clouds onsie would be the harbinger of things to come this season?

Shay is still a mess. He doesn't want any help, until he does. Then, he gets frazzled and demanding.

Why is it wrong to talk about budget? Shay was all rah rah Pollyanna ("It's not about money, it's about the dress!"), and Randy was all business. I do think it's kind of silly for a bride to travel  to one of the most expensive bridal salons in New York, if she can't afford most of the gowns they sell.  Kind of like going to Tiffany's and salivating over wedding rings you can't have. Why do that to yourself?

She did end up finding a gown she loved, so it worked out. I'm glad Randy took control of the entourage. Either chip in, or let us show the bride dresses in her price range.

I looked carefully at all the background shots of the Grand Canyon wedding and I did not see Cello (the brides transgender daughter) anywhere, wasn't she there?

Every time a bride comes in under the guise of having only 3 months before the wedding or a budget of a paultry $2500 makes crazy, it is ridiculous, obviously Kleinfeld's has a room full of sale dresses within the brides budget and time constraints that can walk out that door that day but the consultants always act like his has never happened before, what should they do, oh my!  By now, who do the producers think they are fooling.

So true.  Randy mentioned that everything she wanted in a dress (lace, etc.) would be expensive.  It wasn't that they couldn't find a dress for $2500, but with her demands, it would be iffy.  Randy was correct in pointing that out, IMO.  It was the reality of the situation.  I'm glad that Shay found her something she liked though.  I was thinking about the additional costs of the accessories and the fitting.  With that in mind, I'm assuming she really went over budget.

I agree.  Some of these dresses leave nothing to the imagination.  I'm all for looking beautiful and sexy on your wedding day, but not in a tart kind of way.  I would not feel right walking down the aisle of a church looking like I'm dressed for the honeymoon rather than the ceremony.  They don't have to be covered head to toe, but jeez, a little modesty wouldn't kill them!   YMMV.

Shay is an idiot. I still don't think he's a real consultant. Seems like Randy picks all the dresses. And, as Judge Judy would say, where did he think he was going that day, to the beach?

Those body builders were gross looking.

The Valley of Fire is a "subset" of the Grand Canyon. ?????.  Maybe I'm an old prude, but REALLY, walking around in daytime with your breasts barely covered????  And, of course, we had the now obligatory transgender sighting.

In the case of the helicopter bride . . . as soon as I heard the groom talk, I felt sure he didn't understand the definition of classy or elegant.

He wanted sexy.  He could've spent a lot less if she would've just body painted the outfit on.

the sorry for another post, but OMG, shay had sweat stains

I noticed that too.  I had to look twice though, thinking it was some kind of new fashion statement with darker colored fabric on the material of the underarms (kind of like the elbow patches you see on men's sport coats!)

I just don't get the whole bodybuilding stuff. The woman's breasts looked horrible and her arms looked like a man's.  In reality, if she did have a boob job, it was an awful job as they were so far apart and looked like two melons lashed to her body.  But, at least they both looked happy

The GC bride is further proof that this show is in the toilet.  The groom acted like he was ADHD combined with other mental disabilities----he was just squirrly.  The bride's tattoos were beyond ugly and those bewbs-----how does anyone think they look good.  And nothing like having your ass hanging out of your bridal romper.  And what was with her entourage?  The woman in the aqua dress with the jewelry and cowboy boots?  Really?   Any guess on the ages of the bride and groom?

Generally speaking, it looks like most of these groups are there for their 15 minutes of fame.  Most times the family & friends with the brides look terrible.  Might I suggest a stylist before going on a show like this?  Especially at Kleinfelds where you'd want to show a little class when you walk in the door.   A few years ago I walked into a Saks Fifth Avenue for the first time ever.  It was just to see what it was all about.  Jeez, was I ever under-dressed!  I didn't look like a slob, but when I looked at the merchandise around me, I felt so out of place that I made a quick exit out of that place!  If I was going to Kleinfelds, I'd make sure I looked damn good, but not tacky.

I thought the romper was cute. Until this particular bride put it on, and then it looked tacky. On a more petite bride, that romper would have been adorable as a twist on a reception dress.

But, what in the world was that cape? And that overskirt? And those shoes? Nothing went together. I'd have to see the runway show to determine whether the cape would ever work. Taken as a whole, on this bride, it was a total disaster. As was the wedding itself. There is no graceful way to exit a helicopter; that grand romantic entrance the groom was expecting was awkward looking AF. I was concerned that one of them was going to take a step too far back and fall off a cliff.

I'm glad Shay's bride found something she liked in her budget. She was the most non-offensive of the three brides featured this episode. But I don't believe for a minute that the dress she ended up with was only $2600. It just seemed too pretty and delicate a lace dress to be that "cheap". Either that, or all the other lace dresses we see are WAY overpriced.

I don't get the appeal or attractiveness of bodybuilders at all. I get a little squeamish looking at the bulging muscles. I'm glad they found each other, I guess?

To each his own but I have always thought body builders were creepy looking.

I'm done with this mess.  The stories are too ludicrous to watch any longer no matter how pretty the dresses.  That nipple baring romper bride was the final straw.  That they even showed that was enough to tell me that TLC has crossed the line.

Thanks for the link to the romper! Agreed that it looks like lingerie, even on the model. It was so cute on the hanger, what went wrong? I think maybe if the straps went over the shoulders instead of around the arms, and the bottom was an inch longer.

This. Especially this. All the dark tattoos contrasted against the white of the fabric made  it look like the bride's nether regions were being revealed.

(For my own sanity, I am refusing to believe that they actually were.)

That bridal romper looks like something designers show on the runway but dont actually expect anyone to buy.  I'm sure Kleinfeld had that romper in the "surely we will never unload this, what crazy bride would buy it" section.  After the ceremony I was sure one of her breasts would pop out.  They look like they were dying to escape from that romper. The body building couple were odd to say the least.   They had weird orange rough looking skin, the bride's boobs were miles apart on her chest.   I never understand why women get boob jobs and their breasts look like that.  Was that the look she was going for or the look she ended up with?  The pose down was just so weird.

The Grand Canyon segment was just wrong on so many levels - the romper she wore (seriously, rompers are for no older than 4 year olds); the nipple exposure; the high heeled stilettos that make you teeter about on flat surfaces, let alone trying to walk on uneven rock surfaces; the fiance/husband who looked like he wanted to ravish her any second now, no matter who was around (you could almost hear him hump-breathing).  Just creepy.

YES!  I'm not a prude, but if your wedding outfit requires parts of your anatomy to be blurred for TV, it's too much.

The two groom, the bodybuilder and the GC one looked like they could have been brothers.  Both were what looked like an unhealthy shade of red, sunburn maybe?

Steroids that body builders use can cause that red faced business.  It can cause high blood pressure, which can cause the blush look.  Not that I'm saying they use that stuff, but it can explain the red skin.

I haven't seen this episode yet and this lovely little sentence makes me think that I ought to just delete but I am a gluten for punishment ... and snark. tee hee.

So let me get this straight ... this bride wore a romper, with a cape and there was a helicopter involved. Why does my mind immediately go the Edna Mode's from the Incredibles?

The "Grand Canyon" bride looked like a porn star coming out of that helicopter. Her boobs were ridiculous. And the fiancé was obnoxious!  I read online that she happened to go to Klienfelds when they were filming...and they asked her to be on show. That had to be the ugliest dress I've ever seen.

I was so disgusted with the soft core porn in that episode that I was moved to register my disgust.  I have never done anything like that before but this really was way over the line for a program that airs in the early evening.  If anyone is interested, here is a link to the website.

Gosh, I deleted the Omarosa episode and the last episode with the vocal fry girl (Claudia?) and her sisters without watching after reading comments on this forum. Now I guess I'll not only delete this episode but the show as well. I don't watch this show for that kind of crap. I was already getting tired of it last season but love Randy so much that I stayed with it. I hope they don't ruin the Atlanta version if it returns. I have trouble finding enough time to watch the quality shows that I record (Call the Midwife among others) and don't need trash like this.

First of all, great name, Jenifaohjenny!

Second, I got the porn-star vibe from her from the second her segment started.  Then I Googled her and found out she from my hometown!  She went to the city's community college  where her dad is an administrator.  If I understood what I saw on my searches, she is currently in real estate.

Her outfit was one of the worst I have ever seen on this show!  The cape didn't look good when she was in the store and it looked ridiculous blowing in the breeze of the helicopter.  The romper looked way too small on her and her tattoos were such a distraction!  The fringe shoes were all wrong!  I kind of wished we could have seen the reception.   The groom seemed like a lech!

If my math is correct, the romper, overskirt, and cape ended up costing about $9000.  I was just adding everything as the consultant introduced it.  What a waste!

I just didn't get the cape thing.  Maybe with the right dress, but it was like the consultant thought "We have this cape no one will want, let me see if I can get her to buy it"

I did some checking up on spouse Brian Sullivan.  He's from Westport, CT, and while his FB page is not current, it shows he was married in 2013, with photos of he and his former wife on a cruise (maybe their honeymoon?).  Leaves me to wonder what happened to that marriage.  This current bride just seems like she's in a different world than him.

Well, I just watched the most recent episode and I can think of one word to sum it up.....disgusting. Those bodybuilders were gross, IMO. The bride could not stop posing as if she were in a competition. And yes to all of you who commented on this, but what is up with her cleavage? Her implants must be shifting or installed improperly. Unless her upper body training has warped her chest area.

Then, the piece de resistance, the tattooed chick whose breasts have a life of their own. When they (the breasts and the people) were at the ceremony and she was in that stupid romper, from a distance her tattoos looked like bruises. I wonder what that huge tat on her back was? And where was her transgender daughter at the ceremony? That whole segment was all kinds of cray cray.

At least Randy and Shay had no real drama and ended on a good note. The bride they helped who was marrying her baby daddy looked great in her dress. I hope this show doesn't keep following the trashy, slutty road.

edited to add: bring back the UK version! I'd rather watch that!

First of all, why introduce someone as "my transgender daughter"??? How about just "my daughter". And why was this daughter not at the wedding. And BTW, she is a pretty girl and I envy her hair but I would love to be able to take a pair of tweezers to her eyebrows. I actually thought that the romper and cape were cute together, just not on her figure and not for this occasion.

I thought women who bodybuild weren't supposed to bulk up like that unless they were on steroids. I also agree that her implants were the wrong size and shape for her figure and were poorly placed.

Lace dress was pretty but the straps with the illusion just at the top was weird.

Finally, much as I love Randy, I actively hate about 2/3 of his collection. Half the dresses are the stripper fairy type that look like underwear and there is a particularly unfortunate blue one that looks like cheap pasties. I always thought Randy had more taste.

I'm hoping (for Randy's sake) that his collection designs are less a reflection of his own personal tastes (which seem impeccable to me, at least based on how he dresses himself) and more a reflection of what the typical Kleinfeld client wants. They all seem to gravitate towards those stripper fairy dresses like moths to super ugly/tacky flames.

Sadly he's been bitten by the radioactive stripper fairy bug and exposure to the glut of TV wannabe "stars" who want to look like street walkers at their weddings.  It's sad, really, because two of them (in my opinion) were really quite beautiful. If only he'd stayed with that look.

I'm fairly sure that's his daughter in the FB photo, he has 2 (based on my research).  But yes he was still married to his daughters' mother in 2013, based on some news articles i found. I normally don't care that much to look into these people but those two just -  is just so perplexing to me.

Thanks for posting those Randy dresses. I like the pieced satin one and that's about it. I expected more and I did not expect a baby blue dress with sparkle pasties!
