SunnyBeBe October 2, 2019 Share October 2, 2019 (edited) I've been watching a little of a real life double murder trial in my city this week. I expect that it will make its way onto the ID channel. It sure is a VERY disturbing case. This supposed, nice young man, murders his mother then puts her on ice in the bathtub for a couple of days, while he hangs out, drinks a little, then, breaks into his girlfriend's house and murders her. He told her that he had murdered his mother, but, she didn't believe him......oh my. Then, he calls 911 and reports himself. He actually took the stand and TESTIFIED on his own behalf. An arrogant jackass, too. Trial picks up tomorrow, but, I'm not sure how much is left. It's live streaming, but, there are some videos too on that site. Not that the home movies aren't annoying in themselves. I know, and they're dragging it out so much that you don't even know who did what until it's more than half over. Kitty Redstone October 9, 2019 Share October 9, 2019 So, I was only half watching Valley of the Damned last night but it was enough to make me very, very angry. A 17-year old who had recently had a baby was shot five times with three different guns. The family dog was also lured away and killed the week before, making the whole thing look like a well planned murder. The cops zeroed in the mentally ill brother and didn't do much else to investigate. The brother ended up in a mental hospital but went uncharged. The mother never believed her son could or would do it. Fast forward ten years. A guy at a storage locker auction won the contents of a locker and found all kinds of police evidence bags inside, including an ax with blood all over it. It was the personal locker of the detective assigned to the teen mom's murder (and many other cases). When the locker incident comes to light, the cop is put on administrative leave. He ends up quitting and moving to Texas. Shortly before or after that, another investigator and a reporter finds all kinds of other evidence in a landfill, including that from child rape victims. The lazy/crooked cop threw out all the evidence he'd brought home over the years instead of moving it with him to Texas. He was put on trial and received a far too short sentence. They found he'd also tampered with the evidence log of the teen murder case after he realized he'd forgot to pay his storage locker bill and the contents had been auctioned off. The cops still on the job in the town swore their department wasn't corrupt and have now re-opened the murder case of the teen mom. Some of the evidence collected at her murder scene was in that cop's storage locker but after ten years was too degraded to test. I'd really like to know how this cop got away with stealing evidence from multiple crime scenes FOR YEARS without anyone knowing, or if people did know how they could live with themselves for not reporting this creep to the FBI. I'd also like to know if he's being investigated for committing any of the crimes for which he stole the evidence. Also, the mom would be well within her rights to sue the police department into the ground. Maybe then the town would hire competent, honest police officers. 10 Link to comment
Annber03 October 9, 2019 Share October 9, 2019 I saw that story, too, @Kitty Redstone. Truly appalling on every level imaginable. I fully agree that the mom should sue the hell out of the police department. I'm sure the taxpayers would love to get some answers and punishment, too, since you know their tax money was part of this abuse and waste. I got tears in my eyes seeing the picture of the dog. And didn't they say too that the 17 year old's child eventually died (at the tender age of seven, no less) because she'd been so sick? Tragedy upon tragedy in that poor family, I can't imagine. I hope somebody who actually knows how to do their job will finally be able to get her mom some of the answers she's looking for. And I hope karma comes back around and bites that cop HARD. 12 Link to comment

Fable October 13, 2019 Share October 13, 2019 Wow, Fear Thy Neighbor really disturbed me. I realize the producers can put any spin they want on things, but based on what was shown, Billy’s neighbors were a bunch of high school kids acting like bullies, and the video surveillance seems to support that. I don’t condone him going out and shooting everyone up, but it seemed to me like they were enjoying provoking him. 10 Link to comment
Annber03 October 13, 2019 Share October 13, 2019 (edited) I love on these "Fear Thy Neighbor" shows how these people always claim they're so concerned about their children's lives, yet they're all out there threatening each other and getting into physical fights, and waving guns around and eventually shooting each other. What a great example you're all setting for your children, people. I agree that his neighbors were bullies and they shouldn't have antagonized him, especially given they knew full well about his temper. But holy shit, if you shoot somebody 11 freaking times in a row, and some of those shots happen after the person's already wounded and clearly not getting up anytime soon, and you're constantly reloading and all that, at that point, your whole "I was just acting in self-defense!" argument goes right out the window. You do not need to shoot somebody that many times to protect yourself (well, you shouldn't have to shoot anyone at all, but yeah). Also, the cops coming out to their neighborhood eighty-six freaking times to try and resolve their disputes is beyond ridiculous. After, like, the tenth time they came out there (and even that feels a little high and generous), they should've just said, "You know what, if we have to come out here again, you're all going to jail and we're taking your weapons and you're not getting them back." They want to act like immature children who can't grow the hell up and solve their problems in mature ways, then they should be treated as such. Idiots. Annber03 October 17, 2019 Share October 17, 2019 (edited) Thoughts on tonight's episode of "Shattered": -Julie is amazing and I wish her all the best things in life. My heart broke for her when she was talking about having to go back to talk about her ordeal again, but I really admired her honest, determined attitude, and how much she cared about wanting to get justice not just for herself, but all the other women who went through this hell, too. Her reaction to seeing all those women at the station when she came down to talk to the police was just...damn. I'm glad her efforts paid off in the end, and I hope she finds or has found some peace and comfort along the way. -It was really, really weird to hear that detective actually sounding almost disappointed that the rapist didn't try to attack that woman during the stakeout. They said they wanted to get as much evidence as possible, but, um, maybe try not sounding so hopeful that a woman might be traumatized in the process in order for that to happen? Also, setting aside the potential issues with the accuracy of what somebody says under hypnosis, having women who've just been brutally raped go through hypnosis shortly afterward just seems to me like a really bad idea. I mean, yeah, they agreed to do it, but still, I just can't help thinking there were better ways to try and unlock their memories and get the necessary information. Especially since, as the episode showed, the hypnosis aspect backfired on them down the line. -Coe's friend. I can sympathize with his struggle to reconcile the fact that this guy he's known since childhood turned out to be such an awful creep. That would be a very tough thing to wrestle with, for sure. And given his faith, I can only imagine how much that weighed on him on that level, too. But it kind of bothered me that he seemed to focus more on that than what the women went through. And then his actions when he went to his friend's house. Messing with potential evidence like that is kind of a serious matter and I wonder how the police reacted when they found out what he did. Granted, he did acknowledge what he did was wrong, but....I dunno. some of his reactions and explanations to all of this seemed strange to me. .My frustrations with some of the people and their actions aside, though, the episode itself was very powerful and intense, and I feel it's definitely a very relevant one that a lot of people should see, given the subject matter. I like this series, and I'm glad it's back. Edited October 17, 2019 by Annber03 9 Link to comment

Too much hand-wringing over how torn up he was. Which was especially weird given his comments when he was in the grocery store about how he'd take out the rapist if he saw him. I mean, yeah, at the time he said that, he didn't yet know that his friend was the rapist, so once he did learn that, it makes sense that could affect how he dealt with his anger to some degree. Now you've got a face to put to those headlines, but it's someone you know. But still....it just felt like he became very muted in his response after that. It was such a 180 from his initial rage. 5 Link to comment

These are things that makes me wary of cops. So many of them can be sticklers about a closing a case that they close their eyes to other things. “Sure, we’ll protect you if you make this phone call, wear a wire, testify,” et al. Even though not all people in law enforcement are like this, enough of them are that I would tend to tread lightly if it were me. In this case, the intended victim had no idea she was even being set up. How lovely! 5 Link to comment
Minivanessa October 18, 2019 Share October 18, 2019 (edited) I'm not sure where to put this, but I immediately thought of my PTV folks when I saw this just now. From Pueblo, Colorado. Yesterday a guy found a big suitcase in a dumpster at a carwash. With a woman's body inside. And - the cops have surveillance video of someone dumping the suitcase early that morning. This WILL be a TV show, you can bet the rent on it. News story: https://www.denverpost.com/2019/10/17/body-found-pueblo-car-wash/ Here's a link to the awful and compelling video the Pueblo PD posted on Twitter (nothing gory, but you're watching an innocuous scene while you know there's a dead body in the suitcase, yikes): https://twitter.com/PuebloPolice1/status/1185002318602919936 I think it's great that businesses that don't want people dumping illegal stuff in their dumpsters, are learning that good surveillance video systems are affordable and useful. And Walmart, that source of bleach and trashbags, open convenient hours, has A+ video systems. As many a criminal has found to his/her detriment. The Pueblo PD has posted photos of the victim's tats because they need help identifying her. https://www.pueblo.us/DocumentCenter/View/25521/1019-011--Homicide-investigation-update Edited October 18, 2019 by Jeeves coherence and facts and apostrophes and such 9 Link to comment

I hate cops “ (or some other jokey line). In addition to a small box of rings & a watch, the backpack contained these items : Bic lighter, spoon, swizzle straw, charger cord, glasses case, Colgate, Invader Zim, a few small unidentifiable trinkets, and 2 packs of Maruchan Ramen Noodle Soup. Guess that cop never left town, eh! ETA: "Have Ramen, Will Travel" signed, Paladin. According to my 19 yr old, Ramen is life. Especially the couple who got mad because he paid their water bill. No way was there a notice tacked on to their door because they "forgot." They had plenty of reminders before such a notice. Any of you who want to shake on over here and pay my water bill are welcome! Edited October 19, 2019 by Tdoc72 1 5 Link to comment
hoosiermom October 20, 2019 Share October 20, 2019 Murder for Hire on Oxygen tonight was the best one yet. I was riveted the entire time. And, I had true joy in my heart in how it turned for everyone involved! 5 Link to comment

Razzberry October 20, 2019 Share October 20, 2019 (edited) The DNA of Murder with Paul Holes Sunnybebe you are so right, this show IS awesome! You can see the premier episode "Hotel Homicide" here edited to add: Okay, both episodes so far are excellent, but I hope we get updates because they leave you hanging for that last piece of information that would close the books on these cases. Maybe I missed it, but was there a DNA match in the motel murders or not? Put a rush on it! Edited October 20, 2019 by Razzberry 5 Link to comment
Persnickety1 October 20, 2019 Share October 20, 2019 I was watching Fear Thy Neighbor last night and saw two promos for "Highway To Hell," which said it was "going to" premiere October 7th. Well, that was a week ago and I never even heard of the show. I searched all through ID Discovery programming and nothing was listed for it. I'm thinking maybe the premiere date was wrong. I did a search and found a regular Discovery Channel program called "Highway Thru Hell" that was supposed to premiere October 7th, but nothing for "Highway To Hell" on ID Discovery. Did anybody else see the promos and might have a clue when it's really going to premiere? (And that episode of Fear Thy Neighbor was pretty damn good, too!). 4 Link to comment
Razzberry October 20, 2019 Share October 20, 2019 I get so irritated by the people on "Fear Thy Neighbor" acting like idiots. When the guy last night started bitching about how many times the new neighbor was driving on the road, you knew it wasn't going to end well. 9 Link to comment

Having lived on a private road, I totally understood his concern about their doing wheelies and playing Nascar on the road and that needed to be addressed, but when he was actually counting the number of trips they made on the road every day, my jaw dropped open. The fact that he was actually apparently keeping track of their comings and goings was kind of scary. 8 Link to comment

Last Friday, Pueblo Police arrested the guy they think did it, and his wife (not sure she was busted in re the murder). https://www.denverpost.com/2019/10/18/pueblo-person-of-interest-suitcase-body/ Yesterday the Pueblo Coroner released the identity of the victim: the suspect's mother. Holy sh*t. https://www.chieftain.com/news/20191021/victim-in-pueblo-homicide-is-suspects-mother 3 Link to comment
