Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Okay, good, it wasn't just me that thought the bride and groom look miles apart in years. I first thought that was a picture of the groom with his mother and was wondering the reason for that. It's kind of like Justin and Claire--he looks like a child and she looks like his parent or guardian.

The bride looks fifteen years older than the groom and their story reads like someone desperately aware her shelf life is coming to an end.

You got that right.  Sounds like desperation was the main factor in their rush to the altar.

What is it with these fundies and their ridiculously huge wedding parties?  This bride has TWO maids of honor, 6 bridesmaids, 3 junior bridesmaids and 3 flower girls.  In her descriptions, they all seem to be people she met in college or while working at Dairy Queen so it isn't like her mother is forcing her to include her second cousin twice removed.  It takes 14 females to escort her down the aisle?

I think she is 25 based on my look at Facebook. Her pictures from college all make her look old too, so guessing that’s just how she has always looked. The groom has quite the baby face so that probably ages her too.

Maybe that’s why he had to ask some Howlers to be groomsmen. I guess if you have to limit your guest list you just ask them to be in the wedding and then you don’t have to count them?

Well, a twenty-five-minute meet and greet with the bride for all those who can't go inside should be enough time to hug her and hand her a gift. Maybe the people who made the official cut will get a sit down meal with hot food since there will be a finite number of them.

Sorry, @doodlebug . You already nailed the gift grab.

I would have guessed thirties as well. I had an acquaintance in high school who no kidding looked like she was someone’s middle age mom when she was in high school. Maybe they are lucky and will look in their thirties when they  in their 50s and 60s.

She might age into her face. When I was 10, people thought I was a high school senior. When I was 15, someone thought I was my older brother's mother. That fucking insulted me and still burns me up every time I think about it. And in my early 20s, people thought I was in my 30s. Now that I am in my early 30s, people think I am in my early 30s, and I want to weep for joy that I finally look my age.

On the flip side, I have very rarely been carded. I could buy R-rated movies and get into them when I was 12, and nobody batted an eye. My brother has a baby face and was being carded until he finally grew a beard.

Well I’m still wondering about the instructions to be there before 4:25 cos they are closing the gates. Because of how the bride is entering. This wedding is quite amusing. Hope Claritin and Hilary can top it!

Hey now!  Hannah says right there on The Knot that 'It will mean so much to Hannah to have that special time with her people'.  Would you deprive the bride of time (SPECIAL TIME!) with HER people?  Just because Hannah called them and told them they couldn't come to the reception, doesn't mean they aren't her very favorite people of all time.  Of course, if they decide not to come or, God forbid, don't bring a gift; she will drop them from her list like a hot potato.

Yeah I hate to think how old people think I am.

I think they look fine together, and they look happy, which is good.

Yeah, 25 seems right. In her narration of their “story” she says the groom told her that he liked her 26 years to the day that her HS aged Dad told her HS aged mom that he liked her for the first time. I presume he told her mom he liked her before they got married and not after (but who knows with this bunch!) so realistically she can’t be older than 25.

Jill and David probably stay in a hotel on occasion and send the rest of the crew to a Walmart parking lot for the night.  Maybe they include a child or two for photo ops.  Then they take as much breakfast as they can sneak out the next day.

I knew a girl growing up who had the face of an adult when she was 10.  Now that she is 70 she looks exactly the same with a few added wrinkles.

I am sure they get a room for themselves while the kids are relegated to the RV in the parking lot.  Of course, they bring the kids into the hotel to use the pool in their street clothes and grab a free breakfast.  Hotels generally have limits on how many people can sleep in a single room, even kids.  No way they are getting the 3 or more rooms they'd need to comply.  And, if they get caught and are thrown out; Jill will be the first to loudly claim persecution.

If you remember a couple years back when they were tossed out of a KOA campground, Jill had posted pictures of their campsite and it was clear they only had one space while KOA rules require no more than X number of people per site. and they should've reserved at least 3 sites to comply. That was the time they got asked to leave the pool after they descended like a hoard of locusts and were swimming in jeans.  And when Jill and Shrek sent 11 or so of the kids to the campsite's store while they were alone in the camper and a clerk told them to leave because Nurie was in charge of watching 10 kids at once and wasn't able to keep track of them as they raged through the place.  The same store where Jill complained about the lack of safety for her children because Nurie stuck her foot under a cooler and found a mouse trap; because, as we all know, places in the middle of nowhere in the woods should never get mice and everyone knows that the underside of coolers is fair game.

There's a lot of precedent for the Rodriguii behaving badly while traveling and disrespecting the places where they stay and the employees and guests.

"you are such a good example too me" and the scribbling out words. also it was folded small, so what, he carried a birthday love letter to momma around in his pocket??

isn't Phillip the one that "preached' recently at their church?

Yes, you would think that, at age 18, Phillip would've copied this onto a nice sheet of paper and avoided scratching stuff out.  This looks like a note written by a hostage sitting in a dark closet being forced at gunpoint.  Which is probably close to how it actually came to be.

My grocery lists are neater and on nicer paper.

Phillip writes a love note to momma - he will be 18 this summer. this is apparently from Jill's birthday in November. posted on her fb yesterday

The replacement of "son" with "good son" is..... alarming. It's a little thing, and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but.... is he comparing himself to another son? Is he apologizing for a past indiscretion? And it's in a sentence about his love for mother - is he acknowledging that some sons love their mother inappropriately? The whole letter is creepy, but that one thing really jumped out at me.

So, he gifts her with a music box that, on the top, in huge letters, is addressed to My Dearest Mom and yet feels the need to sign it 'your son.'  It kinda goes without saying, doesn't it?

It's also just a bit ironic when he says 'for all the times I forgot to thank you'.  We've seen that Jill's kids are forced to thank her on a regular basis, all day, every day.  He couldn't have forgotten if he wanted to.

something is scratched out after Mom on the wood burning inscription

??? There is a little design after the first Mom at the top, and an "I do" after the mom on the bottom... I don't see anything scratched out on the inscription. I assume it was store-bought.

The letter, meanwhile, sounds like a weird mash-up of a hostage note, a celebration of the retirement of someone he vaguely knows, and a love note by someone whose first language isn't English...

Why do people use " You are my sunshine "? Have people never read/ heard the lyrics of the song ? Especially in this case not a song you want to sing to your mom.

That letter is disturbing on so many levels. I don't even know what to say.

All I could think was that this is a letter written by a damaged, brainwashed 18-year old young man with the sense and education of a first grader.

I am the MOST blessed Mom in the world to have 13 AMAZING children who bring my heart MORE joy than I could ever express! I love them more than words can say and to see them return that love to me with notes, gifts, etc, is a good, heart-kind-of feeling!

This below gift and letter was something Phillip gave me last November for my birthday. I cried so hard and Phillip did too. We hugged and it was a moment to remember for a lifetime. I LOVE you, Philly! Thank you for blessing me. God deserves ALL the praise. Much Love, Mama xoxoxoxo

Just when I thought Jill couldn't get any more narcissistic, there's this. Good lord, those poor kids don't stand a chance, she's totally ruined their lives. They would need serious deprogramming at this point to have any hope at a normal future.

I'm not even sure how their lives will be in the cult. The girls can marry and maybe end up with a decent husband as Nathan seems to be. I just wonder how the boys will be able to raise and support a family.

The short answer--they're not.  Jill has no intention of marrying off her sons and losing her grip upon them.  If any of them marry, then Jill will no longer be the #1 woman in their lives.  Jill can't have that.

Well, their father chooses not to support the family, either.  He had a decent job in private industry which he quit to print Bible tracts and send his children out to sing for their suppers.  I expect the Rodrigues boys are expected to grift a living, too.  And, as noted above, I agree that Jill is going to have a very hard time letting them go out and get married anyway.
