Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Fourth of the Charlie Brown tree pics - is that a faded bruise on the jaw area?

Yes it is! Also, is that there only Christmas tree, and are they living in a trailer again? The table they are sitting at appears to be connected to the wall. I’m confused.

Jill wrote that they are waiting to close on their house. I hope they have a solid agreement on it. Otherwise, everyone spends the winter in the stink van of doom.

They are living in the RV until they move into the new house. The table is likely also a bed - drop the table down and rearrange the cushions. They probably sleep two or three of the little girls on it.

Personally I would not want to live with 14 or 15 other folks - even family. I know I for sure would not want to live, even temporally, in an RV with that many bodies.

It's a sad little tree. I feel sorry for those kids and their sad little lives.

Is that a bouquet of real flowers on the table? Nurie's or Jill's?

Jill gets everything, even if intended for others. I thought JB and M were the pinnacle of narcissism, but the Rods are right up there with them. Why have so many “blessings” when you can’t even afford to feed them. Pa Rod obviously gets more than enough to eat.

Those poor children... It's a punch to the soul, looking at their little faces. I have only just recently started to learn about this family, and I honestly wish I never had. I was watching some of their videos, and it just broke my heart. That homeschooling video alone reeks of over the top satire... But, it's real.. It's too real. These people are truly evil, and it makes me sick what they are doing to their children. They look like the walking dead, and speak as terrified hostages. I would love to run into them here in Ohio, I would not hesitate to let them know what vile pieces of shit they are. They deserve nothing better than a lifetime of solitary confinement with only enough nourishment to keep them breathing for the rest of their lives. The feeling of evil is overwhelming when I watch these two speak.  People like this make me wish there were a hell that they could suffer in for all eternity.

Having grown up fundie, I wouldn't wish eternal suffering on anybody. That concept gave me nightmares for years. I think you've misunderstood the Rods, though. They're bizarre, judgmental people and Jill is likely a narcissist. But I don't believe they're monsters. I believe they have been brainwashed, like most fundies. They don't want their children or the world to go to hell, so they spend all their time obsessing over the bible. But I don't think they hate their children or are actually starving them.

I hope you're right. I had just got done watching those videos, and I was fuming.  Just the feeling of darkness and dread I felt watching that got to me a bit. Of course I hope those children  are "okay" and just in a very weird situation as I see it... But, I can't shake that feeling when I watch those two parents.

I know fundies who genuinely love their children and in a misguided way believe they are protecting them from an evil world. I do not believe the Rodrigueses are one of those families. Jill is a malignant, narcissistic bitch, and David enables her. Everything she posts sends off so many red flags to me. She gets off on other people's suffering and what she perceives as her own. Timothy's weight gain once he left home tells me all I need to know about her claims that they are just thin. If Nurie marries Nathan and leaves the house, I am sure she will gain weight rapidly too.

Children (well-nourished, healthy children, that is😒) typically don’t bruise easily.  That must’ve been one helluva lick.

I don't agree. I worked in childcare for years, have an MEd in Early Childhood Education, and have four children. Bruises are just blood from broken blood vessels, and can happen pretty easily in active children. I had to file numerous "incident reports" in the center where I workwd because we had to document every bump or scratch, and most were caused by minor accidents. Children do literally trip over their own feet and fall down for no reason on a pretty regular basis.

I even had hamdouts for parents about bruising and how long it takes a bruise to appear, change color, and heal.

I think Jill is a narc, and would be so anyway, even if she weren't fundie. Her religion just gives her an outlet for it.If she'd been raised going to school,I can see her setting her sights on being head cheerleader and trying to date all the handsome football players.Or maybe striving to be valedictorian of her class.

If she'd still been raised religiously,I can see her bringing her bible to school wearing a dress, and preaching out against those things.I think it was said she brought a bible to a sleepover and preached at everyone.Jill must be the life of the party! Forget the s'mores and fixing each other's hair.I'm surprised someone didn't freeze her bible and bra together.LOL

It just depends on what setting narcs have been raised in,imo

Yeah, I'm with you, I've bruised easily all my life.  Partly because I am cousin to a ghost crayfish; partly just because.  I think I was about 45 before my mother gave up asking me "How did you get that bruise?!?!"

Me:  "Um, I have zero idea?"

"How can you not remember that?!?"

Me:  *shrug*.

I go to the allergist, and the flu shot I got 2 days ago has given me a livid bruise.  "Did I do that?" asks the nurse practitioner in awe.  Sometimes when I see a new specialist I've been known to bring a copy of my latest blood tests to prove that I don't have anemia (they've tested).

Jill looks hungover from a late-night bender. This is what eyes look like when the makeup isn't removed before hitting the pillow

So Gabriel is the new Timothy. Mama loves those who spend their meager earnings  to pamper her. On Christmas Day, Gabe had better show up with another gift because early ones don't count.

Jill made sure to have a daughter studying in the background of the photo.

The stink bus is an overcrowded dump. It must violate a lot of fire codes.

I have a bunch of questions (pun intended): How was a 13 year old boy able to buy roses to surprise his mother?  He would have to have had help from someone.  Did they come from the grocery store or mini-mart? (Nothing wrong with that, I buy a lot of flowers that way.) Where does Jill put them in an already stuffed to the gills motor home?  Most importantly,  he forgot the stuffed animal that usually accompanies Jill's flower arrangements.  Hopefully he wasn't punished for this oversight.

Why is there never a picture of a special gift FROM Jill to one of her kids? Other than the stupid double dates, I mean. Why does she have to be feted with flowers and bears by her kids who likely have no money?  She's awful!

And what are the odds that kids really come up with the idea of buying flowers and gifts for their mother without significant prompting. Well, other than the fact that it's ingrained in them at this point as one of the only ways to get individual affection and attention for at least a moment. But even that, at the root of it, is something instigated by Jill. If she told them, instead, "Thank you, but, really, it would make me even happier if you spent your money on something nice for yourself. You deserve a treat!". Or, even if she encouraged them to donate their savings to some cause other than Mama, that would still be an improvement.

But, no...all the positive reinforcement they get comes from giving to her as soon as they scrape enough pennies together.

There's probably a sister-mother to help. Keeping mama happy is a necessary duty in that den of dysfunction. Roses are expensive, even from the grocery store. Where does a (this!) 13-year-old get the money to buy them? Jill probably made the table bed kids sleep on the floor so she could put her flowers on display.  Priorities. Yes. The stuffed animal is missing. Maybe it will show up under the Christmas branch as Gabe's gift.

I hope those kids marry into something better. It's probably their only hope.

Maybe Gabriel is waiting for his 15th birthday so he can give his extra special Build-A-Bear gift bear to Mama then.

Maybe someone took one look at that hot mess of a family, slipped the nearest older child a $20 and hissed "Go buy some food!"  Gabe knew the proper response was "Thank you and God bless you!" and then ran to get roses for Mama.  In that family, no one buys anything without first doing something nice for Jill.  But if you've done something that merits a post on Mama's social media accounts, she likes you more for a brief time.  In Gabe's case, just long enough for Nurie to show up and offer to take a picture and put the roses in some water.

I'm going through random snark sites and I just saw what Kelly Bates wore to daughter Carlin's wedding (from earlier in the year). Obviously opinions will vary, but to my mind, she looks like she's competing with the bride. It would be perfect for a vow renowal with Gil and she made her older daughters (Erin, Michaela, Whitney, etc.) wearer dowdier wedding dresses to their own weddings! She's not old enough to pull "I'm a senior citizen it's okay." It's telling what fundie mothers consider appropriate.

Kind of makes you wonder how she is going to try and upstage Chaney.

Kelly Jo is to weddings as what Michelle Duggar is to others giving birth. Needs to be the centre of attention.

That being said I think Erin and Michael would have wore those horrid dresses regardless since they were Modest Approved(TM).

Lol. At least Alyssa seems like she enjoys spending time with her daughters, Jilly always seems like she's counting down the hours for her hubby to get home because she's sick of being alone with the kids.

Erin seems to be angling for UPtv to pay for a vow renewal so she can wear a pretty dress (like UP did for Zach and Whitney). Michael would wear the same dress.

No. That's when you know you're a loony, unpredictable, tyrannical, nutso bitch.

Multiple people, including children, don't constantly try to buy you off with presents unless you've got them scared to death about what you might do if they don't placate you with something -- gifts, flattery, red meat for the lion -- before you come after someone in a surprise nuclear explosion kind of way.

Yeah but now they've realized you don't need to sew a t-shirt on top of a wedding dress. 😉 If we take when Erin got married and all the fundies and Modest Is Hottest crowd wearing the t-shirt wedding dresses, Erin picks the same style wedding dress again.

If she was getting married today it would probably be different. However I'm guessing Tori, Josie, and Carlin would have ended up with Frakendresses too if UP! was not in the picture.
