Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Does anyone else think it’s odd that JRod keeps talking about Nurie’s trauma, but she’s hardly mentioned the name of the child who really got hurt?  Nurie was scared, I’m sure. But Kaylee has a black eye and stitches!  Yet it’s all “Nurie this” and “Nurie that”.  Guess poor Kaylee is the proverbial red-headed step child.

It's all about who the prize is right now. Nurie is first in line to be pimped out married off, so she gets more attention.

Also, Nurie is far and away Jill's favorite -- probably because she's been slaving the longest, and also because she's so compliant. Jill has made a few pointed comments about Timothy, I believe, and how difficult/strong-willed he was to raise. I get the feeling quite a few of the younger girls are "lost girls," but Nurie is definitely the favored one.

From Jill:

Many of you may remember that when we sent out his graduation announcements, we mentioned that he would be doing his FIRST year of Bible College ONLINE. We were THRILLED that God was giving us another year with all 13 of our children here.

However, it was about 3 weeks ago, the college called and told us there were some math courses that were NOT allowed to be done online.  We were frustrated that these details had not been carefully explained to us….especially because we had asked lots of questions.

So, we claimed the verse that all things work together for good to them that love the Lord, and trusted that this was God’s perfect timing for Timothy to fly the nest for good.

It is a 5 year program Timothy will be doing. We are SO pleased with his determination to accomplish this feat and follow God’s calling in his life. However, we have already shed MANY tears as he will be SORELY missed as he will be SO far away!

Upon many people’s recommendations that we know, we found a GREAT church for Timothy to attend in Washington State. The Pastor is like minded and thrilled to have Timothy a part of their church family for the next 5 years.  The Pastor greatly encouraged our hearts (over the phone) also!

We are thankful for God’s faithfulness and goodness to us, even when we sometimes don’t understand His purpose. To trust Him wholly, is a joyful and peaceful place to be!

So, we will be (as a family) taking a trip out West the middle of July to drop Timothy off; meet his college mates and new church family; make sure Timothy is comfortably settled; and SAVOR each last COMPLETE family moments!

We are nervous yet excited about this extended trip.  Please be in prayer. We have a FULLY booked schedule in various, new churches as we travel. We look forward to serving Jesus one last time- ALL together.

P.S. Nurie and Kaylee are doing very well since the accident!  It was a HARD time to get through, but we have SO much to be grateful for!!

God has allowed us to recover ALL losses since the accident and the girls stitches and staples have now since been removed.  They are WELL on their way to recovery and YES – Nurie has already driven since the accident (after David gave her a driving lesson in the NEW car)!  LOL.

Our precious daughters alive and well!  Thank you JESUS!

I CANNOT believe my 2nd born child Timothy, is graduating from Rodrigues Homeschool already!  Time Flies.

It was a PACKED crowd today at the graduation!  We rang cowbells when they called Timothy’s name.  LOL.

This post is to update you on the “happenings” of our precious oldest son – Timothy – from oldest to newest news!  Please keep him in your prayers as he follows the Lord’s calling in his life.  Thank you!         -David and Jill Rodrigues

Big brother / little sister cuddle time.

My heart is HEAVY because this probably is Timothy’s last singing trip with us. He has been such a HUGE asset to our ministry! He does our entire sound system; helps set up and tear down our equipment at every church we are at; and adds IMMENSELY to our music! He will be SORELY missed, but we are excited to let him go and watch him “SOAR” for Jesus!  He graduates soon and then will start a full time job and college in August! Yikes! Where did time go?

So, this is the quack 'physician' that Jill and Derick took their son, Israel, age 2(?) for his  well check up when they returned from Danger America for the last time? I remember him checking Izzy out and then 'examining' Derick, the puking runner and told him to see an allergist.

What idiots. Has Israel EVER had a real check up since he was released from the hospital at birth? I highly doubt it.

I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that that whole list of women there -- all of whom presumably have kids (probably a bunch of them) and maybe grandchildren -- are such ardent supporters of these two horrible people that they consider themselves the "Fedosky blessing team" and, most likely, push their children to use these hideously irresponsible know-nothings as a midwife and a doctor. ...........

Amazing what people will put up with from someone they consider to be "in their tribe." And in this case doubly amazing considering how frigging judgmental this gang of Meeechelle buddies likely are about people outside their group (since SHE sure as hell is).

Is anyone else relieved that Timothy will finally be away from his crazy mother? I have faith that now Tim will no longer be "fasting" for Jesus and will have plenty of food to eat for the first time in his life. I don't want him to turn into Chimpy but I do want him to be able to eat without fear that he has to save food for the other kids.

More math classes that can't be done online?  I guess they mean math beyond ten fingers and ten toes.

I think it's probably just way too easy to cheat online, especially in math, where a lot of it is just short answer......

Aaaannnd..... they've got a ton of people schooled in the dining room -- and their math is definitely NOT the best -- and these same people are craving God-sponsored aviation careers so they really really really want to get in here ... But aviation is government-regulated....and requires knowing some math.

If they got a lot of cheating-for-Jesus in online math classes taken for credit and then ended up with a ton of students without enough math knowledge to qualify as pilots, they might be barred from teaching aviation stuff at all. So they have to make sure they pass the math classes legitimately, I expect. And they can only do that with securely proctored tests and a lot of showing your work -- plus a lot of individual tutoring for those who can barely add -- I would imagine.

Waitaminute, Timothy went to a REAL high school? I'm so confused. How could he possibly do high school as a part of the Family That Grifts Through Traveling? Or is this some "homeschool high school" from which he graduated?

No. He was entirely homeschooled. They belong to some kind of homeschooling group that gets together lots of different families each year and stages a graduation ceremony for them.

No, in her post, Jill says he is graduating from Rodrigues Homeschool.  Like Churchhoney said, they arrange a pseudo-graduation ceremony with other homeschoolers.  Any predictions on how long Tim will last in Spokane?  Attending a real college, even a Christian one, and attending real math classes and taking real math tests is going to send him over the edge pretty quick unless he is made of a lot stronger stuff than it appears.  I suspect he will be home for good at the end of the first semester and Jill will tell us that Jesus laid it in his heart that he wasn't meant to be a flyin' preacher and that he was too homesick, missed HER so much; that he just wanted to come home.  She won't mention the fact that he was unable to pass the basic math courses required for his major. I don't think he's going to escape that easily.

As for why Timothy cannot pick his own church, puh-leeze!! He is under his father's control and headship until he is married.  He could not possibly decide for himself if a church meets his needs or not.  Jill and David will tell him what he thinks, no need for him to bust his thinker, especially on the subject of religion, where they've got very specific beliefs and requirements and anyone who doesn't think just like them is going straight to hell.

Why can't Timothy stay at home and take the math classes at a local college?  I think it's more than just math--the college finds his entire "homeschooling" education questionable.

It could be that the extra special, super duper Christian college he is attending won't accept transfer credits.  Or, Timothy's mommy and daddy are afraid that if he mixes with the heathens at the local community college, he will become one of them or even decide to be gay.  GASP!!

Wouldn't baby janessa need to be seen by doctors/specialists regularly? So of course they're going to drag her on a cross country trip.

They're probably only to be gone a few weeks.  At this point, I doubt she needs to see her doctors more often than every few months.  She seems to be growing well, looks to be alert and doing all the usual newborn things; there isn't much to evaluate at this point.

I'll bet you any amount of money that's the reason why the school called is because he didn't register for the classes that he needed and that they already knew that he had to go to campus for them all they do is spin Tales to suit their purpose as it's everyone else's fault but their own.

It was always a five year program.  The difference is he didn't do well enough on testing for the normal/standard program.  He needs some extra math classes.  Why they couldn't be done at the local community college is the mystery.

Someone mentioned that Moody is a non-residential college. So is Jill really going to let Timothy live in an apartment with strangers who might not be KJB ?  I can see Jill talking the Spokane pastor into letting Timothy board with them.

Anyway, a non residential college probably won't have a regular cafeteria and he might be on his own regarding meals.  Between school and work and maybe no access to a kitchen, Timothy might struggle getting fed.

He probably needs to start with the most basic math course and work his way up. Math is sequential, and he can't take basic and the next level and the next level at the same time.

Does Jill dye Tim's hair too, or does it just look that way in the pictures?

I wondered that too. It seems odd to have hair that shade when neither of his parents are natural blonds. Also, he reminds me of Kiefer Sutherland in Stand by Me and Lost Boys. I have always disliked Kiefer Sutherland because of those movies, so Timothy gives me an extra dose of the creeps.

I was in elementary school with a girl with blonde hair like Tim's, and dark eyebrows.  We all joked that her mother dyed her hair, but her mother wasn't really that type (she had poorly kept gray hair herself).  I think this coloring just happens once in a while.  I haven't seen this girl since school so I don't know if  her hair ever changed.

Plus the dark eyebrows. You are right on with the Kiefer Sutherland comparison - I knew he reminded me of someone but I couldn't put my finger on it. @BitterApple, it also has a green tinge in the photo holding the baby, which is usually a giveaway for badly dyed blond hair.

I think they knew all along about the math classes, too, but expected the college to make an exception for Timothy because they are such a super special Godly family and, surely, the college understands how difficult it would be for a family with 13 children to pay for his room, board and tuition in Spokane.  JillR really does think she is a very special Christian snowflake and she grifts shamelessly for everything else.  She claims they had a very thorough discussion with the school administration and never knew he'd have to go to Spokane.  My guess is they were told that, unless his math score on the SAT (which he probably hadn't even taken at that point) was at a certain level, he would have to enroll in classes on site.  Jill, being grifty in all things, thought that an exception would be made for Timothy (I am sure she laid it on extra thick about the brain damaged baby) and was utterly shocked and dismayed when the school wouldn't back down.

Someone please explain this to me.  The total cost for the five-year program Tim has signed up for is $150,900.  This does not include room and board, personal expenses, or insurance.

How the heck are they paying for this?  I hope they didn't have Tim take out student loans because I've never seen a job ad for a 'missionary pilot.'

Remember, this is a family that lives on donations and has 15 people living in a home with 1 1/2 bathrooms.

But, wow, yeah. Certainly hope the poor kid isn't using loans for this. Yeesh. He'll have to be an even better grifter than his parents -- and for the rest of his life -- to meet the payments on those babies, if he is going to borrow. ....Maybe he's so brainwashed that he really believes that the Lord WILL provide jobs and loan repayments for him later. It probably doesn't make much difference. He'll refuse to work for an ungodly company or be supervised by a woman, then he'll end up defaulting on those loans, and he'll spend his adult life grifting like his loser parents.

If he did want to be an aviation mechanic, missionary or otherwise, he'd be best off opting for the military. But he won't do that because it would expose him to heathens and gays and liberals! (OH MY)

What even IS that? Only repairing the planes used for missions? That sounds....not very viable. Or maybe they just pray over the plane, ending with "Jesus, take the wheel!"

  • Love 9

Part of the curriculum is pilot training, if he makes it to Year 3; mechanics is also included. It was my understanding from prior posts that he wants to be a missionary pilot. I think he'll be as successful as Anna's BIL in Zambia, which is to say he will be a dismal failure.

  • Love 8

Thanks for the clarification about the missionary pilot vs. missionary aviation mechanic. I also wonder if he will get through all the education, testing, and certifications required, whichever it is he wants to be. He could be a lot better than his upbringing, and succeed. (Hey, I'm trying to have a positive attitude today.)

There are two degrees offered at that school for aviation.  One is for aviation maintenance and one is to be a pilot.  Both require five years of study because of all the courses of Bible study required at this school.  If Tim chooses the mechanic course, the cost is about $100,000, plus room and board.

https://www.moody.edu/siteassets/website_assets/files/ug-spokane/2018-2019-cost-overview.pdf

Factor in the costs of plane tickets for Tim to fly home for holidays and summer break.

There are many cheaper ways Tim could take this course work without going all the way to the west coast to do it.

For example, the aviation mechanics course is just a two-year program at Pierpont Community & Technical College in West Virginia, where the family lives.  The costs to take the course there are just $17,324 a year, and this INCLUDES room and board, books, and student fees.  It costs about $5,000 for the training needed to obtain a private pilot license and there are many, many places to do this in Charleston, West Virginia, which is where they live.  It takes about five months to become a pilot with an instruments rating.  More courses and flying hours are needed for the commercial pilot license, but you get the idea.  And there are dozens of Bible colleges in West Virginia.

What Tim is doing is just crazy.
