Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

I'm predicting a February 14th wedding as well. JRod will be inviting every fundie she can think of. Nurie will have 20 bridesmaids and Jana Duggar will be one somehow. As is tradition.

Ma and Pa Keller must be relieved to get Nathan married off before he discovers that there is a secular world out there.

Nope. She's the only one who is a Duggar now. As I said that did not bring the rest of her family into the fold, so I don't see it bringing in Nathan and Nuri in either.

They don't have to be brought into the fold for Jill to still brag & talk about how she's related to the Duggars (by marriage).  No one else has to acknowledge the connection for Jill to think & feel more important because she's technically now a Duggar (in her mind).

I’ll be fascinated to see if any of the big names in fundie-dom attend the wedding!

i feel for the other kids with nurie leaving. It must be hard for the little kids and older girls to have an important caretaker gone.

Guarantee the wedding dress, hair, and makeup will be over the top!

Does Nurie have a speech problem. Her voice is so...so...WEIRD.

I've not heard the other Rod kids talk, but she and Tim both sounded a bit odd to me when I've heard them speak. I kind of wondered if if was how isolated they grew up from other kids? I've met some really isolated homeschoolers who had weird intonations. Not quite like theirs but still it makes me wonder.

Not once does she mention her child's name in that entire post. Sierra emphasizes her pleasure in being the one who is able to comfort her baby, not that the baby is comfortable. All that emphasizing and then the next picture is her son sound asleep in the hospital bed.

Seven kids later and it's still all about the sacrificing mommy.

With all that said, healing thoughts for poor little Urkel.

I think it's their extreme isolation, yes. They feed off each other and become caricatures of their own selves.

I always feel bad for the younger Duggars and Bateses when an older sibling, particularly a sister mom, gets married. It has to be as traumatic as a parent moving out, but they don't seem to recognize that when they preach about the evils of divorce and what that does to a child.

Do they even have insurance? I mean 7 kids and no insurance seems impossible to me but I'm not Sierra thank goodness. Ok, to be real, 7 kids seems impossible and nearly insane, but that's just me. Their cult beliefs are unpossible to me also.

This sounds about a $20,000 hospitalization to begin with. And that's crazy too but that's America.

Yes all Sierra wants is $$$. She didn’t even mention the kids name.

She did not thank the doctors and nurses either.

Just what I was thinking. Especially about the baby's name. My SM feeds aren't heavy with young mother and baby content but I do have friends and family in that stage of life, and I've seen plenty of posts about tiny babies and little children who are very sick, in the hospital, etc. And FFS, every damned one of those posts names the child. It's ABOUT the child. Whether it's "pray for our little Freddie as he fights to live," or "we are so thankful that our tiny Chloe is breathing more easily today," or "I got to hold our sweet little Tanner in the hospital today."

I do not remember any mother in such a situation posting anything that was all about her and didn't mention her baby's name.

Maybe Sierra didn't realize that she did it, I'm sure she was stressed. I'm editing this post because I'm thinking about how seriously ill her child is, and on reflection I regret speaking so harshly about any mother in her current circumstances.

I'm so sorry her child is so ill. I hope he survives and thrives. But that post is disturbing in its self-centeredness.

Sierra's husband has a real job in a furniture store as I recall, so they may have actual health insurance.  And, if they don't, with 7 kids, the ones under 4, at least, should be eligible for Medicaid.

$20,000 would be low, at least twice that, I suspect.

I can see Nurie ending up in a Lady Di wedding monstrosity.

Yes, but the problem is the Rod's are poor as church mice.  The whole wedding will need to be grifted.  I can see a thrifted wedding dress for Nurie (which she already has; Jill bought her one when she was 14!), a potluck supper, free church and fellowship hall for the service and reception since they are members, and using existing December decorations.

Edited to add:. But of course Jill will have a new overthetop dress, probably white!

If she did have a speech impediment, it would never have been diagnosed and treated since Mama does all the schoolin' and the kids have very little contact with anyone outside the family.  As others have noted, Tim speaks oddly, too, and it is probably a combination of their isolated upbringing and  nerves from being taped.

I expect Jill to announce any day that Nurie has either begged Mama and Chubby Hubby to renew their vows alongside her and Nathan or she has tearfully implored Mama to be her matron of honor because she is just her bestest friend in the whole wide world.  And, I fully expect Jill to be dressed totally over the top and inappropriately for the wedding to draw attention to herself.   She'll either find a wedding gown that is bigger and pouffier than Nurie's, or she'll go the Southern belle route, complete with parasol covered with flowers.

Well, the baby is obviously much too young to care about Get Well cards, but his illness isn't about him, is it?  And people can reply online to her sending good wishes, but good wishes won't pay for anyChik-Fil-A will they? Sierra is undoubtedly fishing for mail for herself, praising her for her selfless Mommy Martyrdom as though she is the first parent ever to go through this.  And, of course, she is also hoping for gift cards and cash.  I expect we'll be seeing a post in a day or two lamenting the tremendous expenses they've incurred and wondering how they will ever be able to pay the bills.  She keeps mentioning the PO box because SHE wants mail, preferably stuffed with  $$$$$.

@doodlebug, Two thirds of that post deserves the "laugh" reaction and the last part is just so sad. You nailed all the subjects, IMO.

I hope that some psychology grad student somewhere is tracking all of JillR's SM posts and activities for a project or thesis, because in my inexpert opinion, that woman is a serious walking CASE of something in the personality disorder line. I think narcissism is a main ingredient. For SM watchers, JillR is just the gift that keeps on giving. For her kids, she's still The One around whom the universe revolves, the World's Best Mostest Wonderful Mother We Are Blessed to Belong To. And to CPS, she's probably always going to be the one who got away, dancing on the line separating neglect from just exercising her freedom of religion in the rearing of her kids. I hope to hell those kids are never beaten but in my darker moments I wouldn't bet against it.

Isn't the Diana style wedding dress is so passé? I know there are lots of over the top wedding dresses now, but I'd think that you can probably find a used Diana style dress going cheap. Later in her life Diana herself cringed about that dress. It was definitely a teenager's romantic fantasy choice, c. 1981.

But I'm intrigued that Jill bought Nurie a wedding dress 4 years ago. Does anybody know what it looks like?

I'm loving the fashion snark here about this. Go, snarkers! 😂

I really don't think JillR is diagnosable. Some folks are just selfish, entitled assholes. The Bible supposedly supports her grifting. But she might have a scoosh of narcissism and histrionics.

But I bet JillR spends a fair amount of time worrying how they'll pay utilities and buy groceries. Grifters can only grift so much.

Have you seen the makeup and hairstyles Jill foists upon her daughters?  She's trapped in the 80's stylewise, so a big 'ole Princess Diana cupcake dress is just what she'd want.

Interesting that Sierra has a nanny.

The nanny is Sierra's mom (her IG post clarifies it).   Nanny was my name for my grandmother so I don't know if her kids also use that name instead of Grandma or if Sierra just wanted it to sound like they had a paid caregiver.

Y'all SEVERELY underestimate Jill. She locked down that job literally years ago when PRECIOUS Nurie asked her to be her Matron of Honour at their vow renewal. No doubt Jill will make sure that Nurie is the centre of attention at this BLESSED event by wearing white, singing at the ceremony and being in absolutely every photo of the SWEET couple. Bonus points if there is a couple's photo of Nurie and Tim and Jill talks about her wedding fifty thousand times.

I'd put money on her asking the M kids to be flower girls/ring bearers because there is no way Anna is being a bridesmaid.

This post is from September 2017

I mentioned her voice back a few pages ago.  She has this sort of breathless-sounding, somewhat high-pitched, weird voice.  I noticed it for the first time when she was showing her collection of homemade jewelry on a FB video.  I don’t know if that’s her normal speaking voice or if she only uses it on videos, but it would get on my last nerve if I had to listen to it everyday.  Poor Nathan.

This might be a stupid question, but do these poor kids just sit around and think about the best way to get through the day by demonstrating how they live to serve their mother?  Is this how they manage to get a bigger slice of the pie - literally - by being the kid that puts mommy on the highest pedestal?  Because it seems that the crap that Jill writes, she either writes it first and demands that her kids follow her script, or she (or her nutjob husband) drop anvil-like suggestions on the kids about some way to shine a spotlight on Jill, and then Jill acts stunned that her children are just so darn thoughtful and crafts a social media post around that.

I don't know, it's very weird and unsettling.

Perhaps they sold the house partly so they could have cash for Nurie's wedding?  I'm not looking forward to all of the wedding planning madness.

No way. I would bet Jill only spends her money on herself. The kids get the grifted goods and leftovers. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nurie wearing Jills "renewal" wedding dress while Jill gets a new Matron of honor gown.  She will gush about how Nurie ASKED her to wear her DRESS because it was so Severely Modest and she wants to be JUST LIKE her Momma!!!!!!!!

My guess--based on my experience with dysfunctional families--is the kids are very well-trained and know (whether instinctively or consciously) that they have to kiss Jill's ass for anything and they behave accordingly. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they compete with each other to see who can praise Mommy the most and even if there is some resentment among them over whoever is the best at blowing sunshine up Mommy's ass. They very well may not even be aware of this dynamic, but it seems such a central aspect of dealing with Jill I am sure they all pick up on it when they are quite young, even if they are unable to recognize how fucked up it is or even even be aware that this dynamic is present in the house.

Well, given how much Sierra is the star of the show even where her own kids are concerned, I'm not too surprised that she's managed to moan and guilt her mother into providing free (sorry -- I can't imagine it's otherwise) child care whenever she wants it. ....

After all, her mom only had three kids -- so surely she's got plenty of childcare energy left that she can turn to the godly duty of supporting her (no doubt) holiest daughter, the Mommy Martyr for Jesus.

I guess I should be grateful that Sierra says a few complimentary words about her mom. She's at least pretending to be grateful and not treating her entirely like a Jslave.

I think Kaylee will remain just Kaylee, but one of the other girls may get promoted to being a replacement Nurie. Anybody from Kaylee to Janessa.

As for Jill being the matron of honor, she does close to Nurie and it doesn't bother me too much. I'll reserve judgment for when Kaylee gets married and asks Jill to be the matron of honor.
