That's just one of the things about Mullet I can't stomach: her always needing to point out to everyone just how modest she is. Memo to Mullet: being SHOWY about modesty is not modest, nor is it 'having a servant's heart'.

In Duggarville, modesty only applies to what you're wearing, rather than how you behave.

I suspect Michelle has terrible taste in clothing and dresses accordingly.  She seems to think her hair looks great, so she probably  thinks she's dressed in high style with her frumpy clothes.  JimBob has terrible taste in clothes and hairstyles as well, so he probably  thinks she's dressing like a MILF.  (A modest MILF, but a MILF just the same.)  These people are narcissistic and egocentric enough that they won't leave the house unless they believe they look better than anyone they meet.

There are ways to dress quite modestly and yet look terrific, but these two could be a feature item in an article that explains what NOT to do.

I agree, the Christmas tree dress was horrific; the nurse wedding dress was so very weird! Michelle obviously sees a puffy sleeved blouse she likes, then buys one in every color and print. She must share her lucky finds with Mrs. Bates, too, since they wore matching blouses on "Girls Go Camping".

I'm not sure JB cares what she wears. My own husband rarely notices how I dress. I'm 8 years older than Michelle and just wear jeans, cords, tops, and sweaters.

I do think the frump look is to protect the Duggar's brand of extra- holiness, conservative-ness, and Gothard-ness. I wonder if Michelle doesn't lounge around in sweats when the camaras are off. After all, the boys seem to dress rather normally, except when on TV; then its buttoned up shirts/ Polos, and khakis, with tucked-in shirts.

It occurred to me that J'chelle's fashion issues may be related to her stunted maturity. I had an aunt who found a style that she felt comfortable with in high school, and never changed it. I think that J'chelle felt confident in her look in high school -- hey, JB liked it! -- and sees no reason to change. The idea that something that was "fashionable" for a high school student in the 80s isn't appropriate for a 50 year old woman in the 21st century just doesn't compute.

Stunted Michelle may be but not from her high school years. She didn't wear frump then (she wore those defrauding, divorce causing daisy dukes!) and not for many years after; there is a picture of her and Jim Bob snogging where she is wearing tight trousers. I don't know when the always skirt wearing "modest" Michelle surfaced but it was definitely after her marriage. I'm guessing after her sinful birth control-taking, working outside the home years as well.

In my opinion, I think Michelle dresses this way because she still think she is hot stuff and does not want another man to leave his wife or JB has a certain fetish when it comes to the way Michelle dresses. And now I will step away from this thread because I need to reach for the extra strong brain bleach.

Ewww. After 19 kids and a frumpy hair do, what man would leave his wife for Michelle

"Frumpwear"™ line of women's (modest) clothing -- another commodity the Duggars could make money on.

Sadly' Forever 21 beat them to it. I was in one this week and they had frumpers on display. Boob should have jumped on the money making effort sooner.

Good point in that MEchelle may think she is dressing fashionably. Back to the Xmas tree dress - remember she thought she looked fantastic while everyone else, including the family, had to be thinking WTF when they saw it? I still don't know how she wore that heavy dress on a hot June day without passing out.

But, eye traps. Defraudment. Ungodly desires which cannot be fulfilled. Attraction = Satan building a fortress because apparently NONE of these dimwits has any self-control. So much for strong faith and knowing right from wrong.

That wedding outfit is hideous.  Who thought those tiers would look good on anyone?

As for the "fashion" theory, it's really tough to find frumpy clothing in the stores, if the stores aren't selling frumpy clothing - you have to go out of your way and spend hours tracking down what you want (my mother used to have to shop for her fundie SIL my aunt for Christmas, so I know).  I'm a pretty plain dresser and still get a fair amount of compliments, but that's always because I thought I'm simply buying what they sell on the shelves.  I guess Goodwill et al, really aren't the Duggars' friends, presenting so many eye-trapping time-warpy options for Michelle to dowd about in..

Michelle's dress, Josh's cuffed pants and filled pockets, and poor little J-girl with her lengthening insert. Jana must have made that one in the middle of the night. Such a class act this family.

Cathy's dress, shawl & shoes - very tasteful.

Did Miss Cathy end up with a boutonniere rather than a corsage? And who pinned it on? Did she have one during the ceremony, or is this a photographer - oh shit moment - get this woman some flowers?

Michelle's hair in the Tin Man Dress picture looks like she just got out of bed, as always.  Also, after looking at the dress a few more times I've come to my senses and it reminds me of foil.  Thank you to anyone who prayed for me.

I'm not sure "nice" is the word I would use, but at least it looks like it fits her. Michelle's version looks horrible in part bcause it reaches down to her feet, which looking at Kelly's dress, it's clearly not meant to do. Also, Michelle being more top-heavy throws the whole thing off even more.

Did Michelle use Kelly's dress (borrow used and save the difference?) or did she just love the metallic mermaid look so much that she bought the same one and made it uglier?

It was slightly less disgusting (and a couple feet shorter) on Kelly, that's as far as I'm willing to go on that dress. That is HIDEOUS. THE BOOBS!!! What a big fat double eye trap! Madonna! I'm saying Mechelle had that up-to-the-chin piece added on. And the jacket just makes a bad idea so much worse. I have trouble seeing her try that dress on and thinking, "oh yes, I can make this work!" Is it actually the same dress? Did one of them borrow it from the other?

People (including People) have tried to coax M into the next century and she always resists. "I like my curls". She's not budging, and some people never do. She doesn't really have "curls". She has long crunchy stuff. I can't even imagine touching that hot mess. Ewww.

I just showed the pic to my husband and asked what he thought of the dress. He said, "I don't like it at all. Is that supposed to be Scheherezade, and you tear off one veil at a time?" I said, "it's Michelle Duggar going to a wedding." He started laughing really hard and said, "Then I was going in the totally wrong direction!"

ETA: I just asked him if he thought the boob area looked modest. Him: "No! No! The way it criss-crosses is like RELEASE ME!" You would have had to see his accompanying gestures.

I think we, the Previously TV fashion consultants, decided at the time of Jill's wedding it was two different dresses. Kelly wore hers first (forgot what kids wedding) & hers was the shorter one. MEchelle's looks like it was a gown length to begin with, not adding layers to Kelly's. I'm sure we could tell if someone (Jana) had added layers. IIRC, there was also a difference in the necklines too. Not just the modesty shields but in the way the dresses were designed.

Poor Cathy, I can see them forgetting to get her a proper Mother of the Groom corsage. I'm hoping maybe it had to do with her health, just getting released that morning from the hospital. Like the floral smells of a full corsage would be overwhelming to her. As one who uses a wheelchair a lot, I'm questioning why they didn't have her sit on a nicer chair in the pictures?

Definitely, definitely "Backyard people."

Not surprised Michelle stole a dress from the Bates, didn't they also steal Jackson's and Josie's names from them too?  It's just weird.  I wonder if they're swingers, in secret.  I wonder why Michelle doesn't wear heels.  She keeps shrinking,  a few inches wouldn't hurt.  She might want to stay more child sized to match her baby voice for JB's preference.

As far as Michelle's Christmas tree dress at Jill's wedding goes..whether she borrowed it from Kelly Bates or not, that dress just didn't fit Michelle. It clearly is not cut to be a floor length dress in the first place. Michelle needed a petite sized outfit. Kelly is taller than her and the proportions of that dress looked correct on Kelly. Also, Michelle's face was beaded with sweat as that material, the "added modesty panel  AND a jacket over it" were way too hot and heavy for a summer wedding. I don't think the fundy people believe in a simple high heeled shoe for grown up women. They all wear flats if you notice. About Cathy's situation, I agree totally that a tasteful upholstered chair should have been given to her for the photographs. That wheel chair is a permanent reminder to her of something that was a temporary situation for her. She was dressed beautifully especially considering her circumstance on that day. I agree, that they overlooked her and disrespected her by not ordering her a groom's mother corsage, which could have been a wrist corsage. This family doesn't have any taste.

Jill's wedding day was about the Duggars. Derick and his family played second fiddle to the almighty Duggars. God forbid Derick's sick mother should upstage the Duggars or Jill at a Duggar wedding.

OMG, this is the truth.

MOST families would make the extra effort to ensure that Triple D's family was treated with the utmost caring and compassion. And this shows (again) that the Duggars have NO discernible manners. At all.

If Cathy was having trouble with the pin-on corsage, it's not new technology to get her a wrist corsage instead. They've been around now for 20 years. I'll bet there might even be wrist corsages to be had in Arkansas, and I'll also bet one could call the florist in question and ask that the flowers used be a lighter scent or unscented in case strong scents were tough for the mother of the groom.  Even if she did not want to wear it, not making sure Triple D's mother had an equally lovely corsage made is unbelievable. Again, this is nothing short of "We're the only ones that matter" and "We don't have to do anything kind for our new in-law. She's lucky we allowed her to attend in the first place." And don't get me started on the selfish, narcissistic Duggars and a photographer that did not have a clue re: the pictures; wouldn't it have been nice if that photographer had asked if there could be a comfortable chair brought in for Cathy to sit in for the family pictures of her son's wedding -- that cannot be re-created?

Speaking of upstaged, I know this will be a shocker to everyone here, but that ugly, ugly dress was for sale at Nordstrom during that time. The only person that dress would look good on is someone who's tall and slender. It's meant to be a cocktail party or holiday party dress, NOT "mother of the bride". And it's also not meant to have a cheap-looking "modesty panel" installed. If the style in question is too revealing, maybe she shouldn't have bought it in the first place. I note that Mrs. Bateseseses' "modesty panel" was subtle. J-Chelle Duggar's could be seen from space. After all, it's more important to look modest than BE modest. And J-Chelle was trying to upstage her own daughter. The dress was bad enough but the sheer amount of fake, cheap looking jewelry she wore as well? OMG. One does not wear something that would elicit stares and snickers unless one wanted ALL THE ATTENTION.

One can only imagine what J-Chelle will wear to Jana's wedding, if we're all treated to that. I'm guessing she'll unearth the high school bikini.

Hmmm....now looking back, wonder what Josh's pants were stuffed with? His "work" phone that Anna wasn't allowed to touch? Some girlie pics?

Michelle's dress is uglier than I remember. There are no words to describe how bad it is.

And my mom had cancer and was in a wheelchair towards the end...i also work with kids in wheelchairs. Uh, there wasn't a better pose for Derick's mom? Pet peeve of mine, i guess, but you can pose the wheelchair nicely and have people SIT around the chair so you get a nicer picture. Poor woman. Wouldn't a photographer know that? Oh sorry, no professional photographer, just some girl and an expensive camera.

Sloppy effort from both, but Michelle was a shiny synthetic showstopper.

I CANNOT with that 80s rat nest on her head. On what planet does crunchy, feathered hair look good? And what do fundies have against updos or buns? If my mother decided she was going to look like that at my wedding, I would have told her to turn around and go back home. No 80s mullets allowed. This isn't a Def Leppard concert, put the Aquanet can down and attempt to step into the 21st Century.

Michelle is passive aggressive isn't she?? She wears this fucking tin foil monstrosity and then wears a Nurse Rachted uniform for Amy's reception. Apparently, she's never heard of the ONE rule:Don't upstage the bride. She is a conniving little bitch.

I can't with the Isotoner slippers as special occasion footwear on an able bodied woman.

I could understand if she had a physical challenge that prevented her from wearing regular shoes, but come on, this is a woman who can skate backwards to the Village People.

I feel like it all goes back to the modesty schmodesty.

Honestly, and please forgive me and/or delete if this shouldn't be said, but her entire being is where boners go to die.

Popping into the prayer closet!!

I seem to recall someone who posts here adopted one of the Duggar kittens from their local shelter.  This was a couple of years ago.  I think Somepity got a dog from near there, but not a Duggar dog.  The kitten was a Duggar Drop-off.

Well, I suppose with all that land and the landfill so close, they probably come across a lot of kittens.  Too bad.  I have rescued a lot of abandoned cats, really rescued, not adopted from a shelter.  These were cats going feral because they didn't have a choice.  Cost me a lot of time and money and finding places for them after I got them fixed, tame, insect free, etc.  There seems to be no end to it.

I don't think the fundamentalist have an issue with your hair being up. That is a thing particular to Gothard. In fact, many fundamentalist women cover their hair or put it up because it is only supposed to be sensual for your husband. So once again, I'm stumped with this Gothard clan. Once gain, all about Gothard and his sexual fetishes.

Michelle's hair is a mess. Remember that nice make over? She hated it. It was very flattering and the best we have ever seen Michelle look. EVER.

I agree. Something is off with Michell'es bustline. I noticed that right away.

Must be the dress. Kelly's boobs are uneven and near her chin, and Michelle's are uneven and near her waist. Makes me think Kelly's dress is a smaller size and they both are zipped up very tight..

Of course it's modesty.  High heels accentuate the (now delectably and irresistibly taut) calf, which is a verboten eye-trap.  Why it matters if your legs are covered up, I cannot say, but you wouldn't want your ankles to look sexy to some stranger, would you?

The  material crosses right over left, cutting off the left boob. Kelly looked different because she's not a very busty woman, so she would naturally ride higher than those udders Mechelle has.

Michelle couldn't have stuffed her bust into a smaller one though.  What she should have done, of course, was go get a different dress when it didn't fit properly.  What is strange is that I needed a MOB dress during that same time and tried that dress on.  Sadly I'm closer to Michelle than Kelly and I couldn't get it off fast enough.  I didn't look quite as bad as Michelle, but it was horrible.  I wasn't trying on the silver/gray either.

That dress is just ugly. It doesn't even look good on the models, then size it wrong, add a modesty panel and flat shoes, and I don't think Naomi Campbell could pull it off.

The cross over bust will gap for anyone a B cup or higher, plus the bust line looks super empire, but without any flow or waist area before this ugly scale? pleats? scallops? begin. No idea why two of them liked it. Must have been on sale and just really long.

The sad thing is, cancer-stricken Cathy managed to put together a nice rehearsal dinner with REAL food, while the 1,000 guests at Jill's reception made do with melted root beer floats and pickles. Yet, the Duggars couldn't even buy the woman a proper corsage. Boob and Michelle are the tackiest grifters on the planet, with Derick and Jill coming in a close second.

I forgot how ugly Jill's wedding was. Not being mean but it really was unattractive clothing and from what we read, crap food.

We all have different tastes and styles but unfortunately, none of Jill/Derick's choices were good taste.
