Aw, calling him a vulture isn't fair -- to ACTUAL VULTURES. XD

You ought to see Christian Bale in American Psycho.  His character's look and mannerisms are a dead ringer for another figure who call not be named...

Hah! I couldn’t think of a name that quite describes the real person.

oh I have seen American Psycho. Bale was absolutely chilling in that movie.

Time Freak

There are significant differences of course, but this reminds me of Weird Science. So when am I going to finally get a movie about a young woman who creates amazing tech because she's horny for a dude?? This looks fine, I guess. But I've seen these same tropes play out for at least my entire lifespan, and I'd like some gender equality, thanks.

It kind of has a stalkerish vibe.

Beautiful Boy

I'm reading the book of this currently (Beautiful Boy, not Tweak since I can't find it at the library). The book itself is very repetitive by design (although addiction itself is repetitive) and Nic is not exactly a person who is easy to sympathize with in the book, although he is more so in interviews since he got clean. I also don't agree with a lot of the conclusions he and his dad have reached about addiction and treatment, and his dad's other book, Clean, which talks about how to prevent and treat drug addiction, is full of factual inaccuracies and fear-mongering. So overall I have mixed feelings about the whole thing, but I may see it this weekend.

Vice

My first thought is that it looks like Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush is going to be one of those cases where even though he doesn't look too much like the real person, I'll still end up buying it, because he seems to got the mannerism, voice, etc. down pact.  And, hey, another Christian Bale/Amy Adams reunion and this time not with David O. Russell!

I can't believe how accurate their portrayals are. I feel like this movie will be really infuriating but The Big Short was one of my favorite movies ever so I think this will be really good.

I'm definitely going to see this (it comes out on November 5th). I'm a fan of Joseph Kahn and it looks hilarious.

I doubt Vox Lux will be the sort of movie that attracts a big mainstream audience anyway, but going by that trailer, you'd never know that Natalie Portman is only in half of the movie--not really a spoiler IMO as the studio is campaigning her in Supporting categories for awards consideration (it's a similar situation to Dev Patel in Lion). The trailer does at least hint at the

Spoiler

violence it features--Natalie's character survives a school shooting in the 90s, she gets famous after singing a tribute song at the memorial, and years later, terrorists carry out a mass shooting while wearing masks inspired by one of her music videos. That's part of why the character is such a mess in the trailer, beyond the typical "pitfalls of celebrity" reasons.

It's always interesting to see what strategy studios take when they have a challenging project to sell, whether they embrace the reality or try making it seem as conventional as possible.

The trailer for Mark Wahlberg's movie 'Instant Family' makes me want to gag every time I see it. Foster care is being presented as a series of wacky hi-jinks ala 'Daddy Day Care.' Most foster parenting situations are not silly and care free--these kids are coming from sad, sometimes abusive home environments. And I know there are plenty of happy foster care experiences out there, but I think it's in poor taste to turn the challenges of foster parenting into a series of bad jokes and physical comedy bits. Or maybe I'm just too sensitive.

I like the parts of Bad Times at the El Royale that look like And Then There Were None crossed with some kind of 60's casino movie. I dislike the parts where everyone starts to look beat up and it feels like Grindhouse/Tarantino.

I'm embarrassed to admit I ever liked Mel Gibson.

I know Pocahontas is problematic in and of itself but I'm upset I can't fully enjoy that movie anymore.

Benedict, why? That voice for the Grinch movie is terrible. I get not wanting to do a copycat voice but it's actively bad.

Shit. I finally watched the trailer for Isn't It Romantic and Rebel Wilson's behavior aside, I'm totally going to watch that movie. It's like "I Feel Pretty" crossed with "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." Does that mean I'm probably going to wait until it's on Netflix or Amazon Prime? Yes. But I'm still going to watch it. The pop music, the dance sequences, the meta-humor, the fact that they got a Hemsworth so she'd have a love interest with an Australian accent... I'm weak.

Tea with the Dames - I am happy just knowing this exists in the world.  I cannot wait to see it!

I love it already.

RE: Bumblebee. Hailee Steinfeld is better than this knock off Iron Giant movie.

RE: Dumbo Eh... It looks like the Tim Burton who made Big Fish and Big Eyes. A bit boring so far. Is it just Dumbo or will there be more CGI? Because I'm not sure about this low level integration of live action and CGI. I'm seeing a lot of... people.

RE: Rocketman I think they were careful to not linger too long and allow you to get a great look which makes me a little nervous. But I am encouraged by the flashes that suggest this will not be a squeaky clean story like other biopics. And while it did sound very processed and a little off, I was tricked enough to not know for sure whether that was Elton singing so that's encouraging. I think I could suspend my disbelief enough if the movie around the singing was good.

RE: Stan & Ollie That's a lot of... choices. I'm not sure how many people remember them in 2018. I'm also not sold on the makeup for John C. Reilly. It's also very weird to me hearing Shirley Henderson use an American accent while Nina Arianda does... whatever that was.

RE: Holmes & Watson It doesn't look great. But Hugh Laurie, Steve Coogan, and Ralph Fiennes? I might check this out.

RE: Vice I'm going to be honest. It looks boring. BUT, I do think that it seems like they're accomplishing what they want to accomplish.

RE: The Christmas Chronicles It doesn't look good. But it doesn't look terrible? I think Kurt Russell saves it. It looks like the kind of movie that's only for kids but that those kids will be nostalgic about when they grow up. The elves look creepy but make sense from a merchandising standpoint like troll dolls or something.

RE: Bodied I was a little worried a few times during that trailer. But I think it knows that it's treading in murky waters. So I will give it a shot. It seems at least mildly amusing and it doesn't seem to be purely about white exceptionalism. But if it strawmans feminists and activists too many times, I'm out.

RE: Mortal Engines It screamed YA novel. Are the white actors playing all the important roles? Looks epic and pretty in a way I'd expect from Peter Jackson but so boring. Robert Sheehan needs to make better choices so I can watch him in a movie.

RE: The Mule WTF?

Time Freak feels more like Click, that Adam Sandler movie. Or maybe About Time (which I never watched). It doesn't look any worse than all the movies it's like but I don't feel particularly motivated to watch it. It's also a bit like that short-lived Leighton Meester show, at least as far as romancing a woman through time travel goes.

RE: The Aftermath That trailer was confusing. At first I was like... keep it in your pants, Keira. And then I thought maybe she was actually reacting oddly to him because she feared that he had Nazi sympathies. And then I was like... why is Keira Knightley always married to terrible men in movies and having affairs? And then it was back to sexual tension... and then they were making out. I feel like this movie looks pretty but I won't like it any more than The Duchess, Anna Karenina, etc. As ham-handed as that looks, I'll probably prefer Colette.

RE: Destroyer I cannot tell if this is good or bad.

RE: Vox Lux I liked Ingrid Goes West. I feel like a different actress could pull of dark satire. But Natalie Portman is a little too serious. And with the accent and styling it comes across like a heightened version of Black Swan. Too actor-y, not enough camp. I will watch it but I think it could be more entertaining if there was some more levity.

RE: Cold Pursuit Now, this movie gets it.

RE: Spies in Disguise It started off a bit like The Incredibles action sequences but not quite as well animated. And then the twist... so dumb. But like... I think Will Smith makes it work? God damn it, I'm totally going to watch this.

Better but still... what? I feel like their strategy is to just give nothing away. Because none of this seems like it should be related to the main plot of a good movie.

That's basically an animated Key & Peele sketch, I'd be stunned if it had anything to do with the movie proper.

I don't know if this makes sense but I have very little interest in this movie... and yet I really want to see Julianne Moore in this movie. I like this character. I just feel like I'm going to be frustrated by everyone else in the movie and the things that happen to her.

Similarly but less drastically I don't know if I'm going to enjoy this movie but I SUPER want to see Jennifer Aniston in this movie.

The Lion  King teaser trailer.

I'm torn. On one hand, the original was perfect and a CGI remake just seems so unnecessary. But the cast looks great, the graphics looks cool, they're keeping the original Circle of Life, and I've seen all the other live-action versions, so the added fact that I am Disney's bitch pretty much guantees I'll be seeing this one too.

Men in Black International - Trailer #1

Men in Black International - International Trailer #1

Some background details, via ScreenRant:

Quote

The property is getting a soft reboot with International - a spinoff that takes place in the same universe as the previous Men in Black movies, but shifts the action to MIB's London headquarters (rather than its New York base from the original trilogy). Hemsworth and Thompson's MIB agents, H and M, are joined in the film by Emma Thompson as Agent O (reprising her Men in Black 3 role) and Liam Neeson as the head of MIB's UK branch.

Now, this looks good.  Love Tessa Thompson's character. And, Chris Hemsworth -- I'm getting a fun young Roger Moore vibe (is a The Saint film reboot in Hemsworth's future?).
