I'm shocked they'd kick out a NY episode over a piddling Below Deck!  I mean, apples and oranges here.  I'll admit here that I do watch BD and this season has been horrific to watch.  Boring, boring, boring.  No way in reality would Bravo pick BD over a NY episode unless it was an emergency in my opinion.  I think it must be the awful reviews NY is getting and hopefully they're retooling some episodes to give us way less Leah and a more fun Eboni.  Please Bravo!

I know! I have no interest in watching the reunion.  Can you imagine Bravo replacing the NY HOUSEWIVES with this season's group of weirdos and kids from Below Deck?! There has to be something going on behind the scenes...

I think I saw Leah’s photo of upcoming guests on WWHL for next week:(   I wonder if she’ll have much to say about it.

I hope someone calls/writes in and asks " How does it feel to be a nail in the coffin for the most beloved HW franchise"?

I thought that I kept missing the show.  And, I never do grow fondness for Below Deck....just no....😝

Below deck is so boring.  Now, if they would just go off the ship onto a different port and show some scenery, I would watch.  They just go to a restaurant, drink and go back to the ship.

Today, I watched the old episodes.  So good.  Carole was on.  Are those her natural lips, or did she have the top lip plumped up.  I’ve always wondered.  Sonja was acting exactly like a Morgan again as she had the new Tipsey Girl coming out.  It’s always something new she’s trying.  After ten or twelve years now of not being Mrs. Morgan, why does she still act so pretentious?  She has not been the Mrs for awhile now, so why pretend?  It as wonderful seeing the old gang again compared to what we’ve been having the last few months.  I hope Bravo won’t put N.Y. In the can.  Can they?

So, I just booked a stay at the Hawthorne Hotel. I had promised my daughter a few months ago that we could go to Boston and Salem this summer, and then panicked when suddenly this trip was as-seen-on-TV afraid that things would get booked up while waiting for my work schedule to settle for time off. But I guess these harpies haven’t really done much for the Salem Tourism Board.

I dare you to go to the tattoo parlor and re-enact the scene from their dinner.

That is great!  Lucky you and your daughter.  I might try to get my hubs to go when it gets cooler.  I’ll bet a lot of watchers are thinking about going too.  Let us know everything.  💀👻

COMPLAINING ALERT:

Are there any other work from home people who have a daily "positive space!" Microsoft Teams chats that consists mainly of gifs that are like, "Boo Mondays (sad face)", "Good morning - I need coffee (coffee mug/tired cat)" and "Happy Friday! (celebratory dance)" (or on Thursdays, a new one for me... "Happy Friday Eve!")

:|

Seeing them every day is not making me feel the least bit positive.

I recently had a conversation with a colleague explaining that her repeatedly saying, "What was the positive?", "Let's focus on the positives!" was a way of shutting down difficult conversations.  She is also one to pull out the meaningless platitudes.  Nothing like saying, "Our manager just blew up and called someone a 'fucking idiot'" to then get a rejoinder of "What was the positive?"  Anything she said that could have been positive was destroyed by "fucking idiot".  Following with "tomorrow will be a better day" does not help.

Me neither, and I live here and worked in the City.      Ok, I just called my Son.  He said it was equivalent to Studio 54, but better.  A nite club that was popular for the famous who came to N.Y. City., or whoever frequented nightclubs.  Very famous.  Copa Cabana also.  Frank Sinatra and all the stars of the time.

Yes, and guess what? I did see JFK Jr. at one of those clubs. Very attractive, but he really needed to shave his neck.

I was about 4 eps behind then I just deleted because I couldn’t handle this season and from comments it wasn’t getting any better. I also hated the tacked on WWHL. If I wanted to record that I would on my own!

Leah is a few years younger but I went to Limelight and all those places too. That was sort of the last gasp of so many of the places. It was also the last gasp of real nightlife (without camera phones, social media, digital cameras). I don’t want to write a nostalgia novel here but that’s what killed so much nightlife. The fun part was getting dressed up, not knowing who you were going to meet or where you’d end up. It was exciting to see an actor or It model of the moment dancing five feet away. Now? People would be recording her and posting it on IG without her consent.

It was a fun, magical time that can’t be compared to the prime of nightlife in the 70s and 80s. I think we were the last generation to experience it that way.
The problem is Leah even on her podcast and in old columns thinks she was the only one to have these moments and experiences.

The eighties in Manhattan were wonderful. At Lucky Strike, I got to flirt with John Lurie, who was sitting with Willem Dafoe, and share french fries with mustard. AND read about myself in New York Magazine.

Ahh, the 80's, I got food poisoning from Peach's & Herb's restaurant and danced at Studio 54. that was when it was being used to film an MTV dance show and not the Rubell years.

WOW, lucky YOU.  I live here and only went to the Playboy Club for a Company party.  Never a nite club.  Only museums and restaurants, and sporting events.

Anyone see in the paper, the New Sex and the City coming maybe end of the year?  They finished filming with just the three.  Charlotte New Face, horrible, and Carrie, 54, new face too.  Similar ages and situations like the N.Y. Housewives now.  If there’s going to be a show again.  Guess Andy hasn’t decided?

Do people not wear panty hose anymore? I would be horrified to walk out with those flappy dry old lady legs accenting the rest of my lovely outfit.

I volunteer at a thrift store. Women have been donating dozens of unopened hose packages, especially since COVID. I asked my sister if she still wears hose. She said that she can’t stand the feel of bare feet in shoes. That’s a good point.

Pantyhose are technically out of style, and it's considered extremely gauche to wear them.

But you know what?  I think legs look so much better in them, even young, toned legs.  They just give the outfit a more finished look.

Black sheer hose would look so nice with that dress she's wearing.

My sister gave me a hard time for wearing black opaque tights with a black sweater dress & boots that I wore for our mother's funeral.  In January.  Outside.

Screw what's "in vs. out".

FWIW, I don’t think good hosiery is ever out of style or a bad choice. I had a former boss who was very put together but ruined her pretty outfits with her crepey, white, over-50 legs. I just think the appearance of bare legs severely lacks polish unless it’s summer and you’re wearing a summer dress and sandals. I always wear hose with dresses and suits.

I think she has become a miserable beast, but I still love her wardrobe. Is that bad?

Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year to you!

@RealHousewife

I see you've buckled down and are tearing through this series! When this show was at its best, there was nothing like it, IMO. My absolute fave of all the Housewife series I've watched.

Do you have a favorite season? A favorite housewife or storyline?

What did you think about Cindy and the brother who dated a woman who could have been Cindy's twin? (Random, I know).

What are your thoughts about Sonja and Luann's habit of sharing men? I personally have always rooted for these two to ditch the third wheel and get together on their own, lol.

I can see why. I love it! I’m not even normally a binger, but RHONY is just so good. Do you recommend another city once I’m done with NY? I’m so sad that I only have a few more seasons of it left.

I just started season 9, and for me it’s getting better and better. I’m not sure what my favorite storyline is My favorite Housewife is Sonja. I think she is so cute and charming.

That’s so weird to me, but I’ve read people are often subconsciously attracted to those who look related to them. Definitely doesn’t apply to me!

I would hate that personally, but I enjoy watching both of them. They seem so much more nice and harmless than the BH Broads.

I loved Sonja before she fell into the bottom of a bottle. She was so sweet and fun. While she's not quite as bad as Dorinda, seeing her drinking and delusion made me so sad while I was still watching.

My favorite NY wife is Ramona. She's a horrible person, but she stands firmly in her horribleness and is unashamed -- probably even unaware of it. I knew I wouldn't be watching again after she was dismissed. I could take losing Bethenny (the other narcissist in residence who made me cringe and giggle at the same time). But Ramona is so intense with her awkward truthfulness that the show won't be the same without her.

Here's my list of Housewife shows from my favorite to least favorite. Keep in mind that I've not watched them all, so there are many I have no idea about:

- RHONY (the best, IMO, at least during Seasons 1-3)

- RHOBH (the best clothes, real estate, jewelry, and vacation porn)

- RHOPotomac (funny, close-knit group, but nothing lavish; off the rails after Season 5)

- RHOAuckland (ran only a season, but I loved it!)

- RHOAtlanta (the most watched for a reason -- funny and quick-witted women)

- RHONJ (didn't like that real families were at each other's throats)

- RHOC (tried watching, but all the blondes looked the same to me; couldn't keep anyone straight 😊)

- RHODubai (dry and try-hard first season)

I haven't watched the others, though I'm curious about Salt Lake City and Dallas.

Wasn't sure where else to post this . . .

Anyone notice a lot of the Real Housewives of New York are mothers to one daughter? Bethany, Jill, Ramona, Sonja, and Dorinda.

I noticed that, too!

There’s research. Marriage more likely to end in divorce if individual is parent to only daughter(s).

Early on, female embryos more likely to survive, just because they are tougher?

Daughters are more resilient? Parents more likely to end marriage if they believe the child will be able to cope?

I will edit this later. Did not sleep well last night.

I thought it was a neat coincidence. For some reason if I picture myself with just one child, it’s a girl. But I can see myself as a mom of two sons. I don’t know if that’s due to television or just what I’d want. I guess I can see it easier being able to relate and become friends with a daughter as she gets older, and they say sons leave more once they’re out, especially once they have families of their own.

Those stats are interesting! Hope you are feeling okay. 🤗

One daughter each. Hadn't noticed. Interesting!  As the saying goes, "A son is a son until he takes him a wife, but a daughter's a daughter for the rest of her life."

Not sure how true that is - but when I was the caregiver for my two elderly parents, I sure ran across more daughters being the caregivers for elderly parents than the sons, or doing more for them, or more attuned to their needs.  Sure, there were exceptions - but mostly, the daughters got the brunt.  With the housewives, this group of daughters sure landed some attention seeking & demanding mothers!  Sure won't be easy for them as these women age.

As for daughters being easier to relate to or becoming friends with daughters - sometimes yes, sometimes no.  Sometimes only after the teen years pass.  Had lots of friends at loggerheads with their moms throughout their teens - even those who eventually bonded & were close as adults, though some never did.  But at least for a time, some blamed their moms or took out everything & anything on their moms - while largely giving the dad a pass.  Guess it varies greatly & depends on the temperament of the individuals too. You don't always get the perfect child or the perfect parent - or the reaction or interaction you expect - though the expectation may be there.
