Mine was a breeze too. I didn’t need any pain meds and was eating soft foods within hours.

Have had multiple teeth pulled over the years starting with a single wisdom tooth (I guess I am not that smart since the other 3 weren't there), as well as one adult tooth that never came in and had to be removed from the roof of my mouth.  I've had me some dental work.  Most recent extraction was about a year ago.  I've never had any big problems or major pain.  I recommend getting a local anesthesia as a good dentist can hit those nerves and you'll be numb for 8 hours or more afterwards.  I've never gone to sleep in the dentist's office (my choice, I didn't go to sleep for my hip replacement either).  As they said above, get ice on it ASAP afterwards and take ibuprofen 600 mg (3 of the over the counter tablets) every6 hours around the clock for the first 2-3 days and fill in with narcotics as needed.

I went to work the next day after all of my extractions, taking nothing but Advil while working and did fine.

I dont remember anything major when I had my wisdom teeth pulled many years ago.

My son had all 4 of his pulled a few years ago & had no problems. He was in and out in no time. He had it done on a Friday and ended taking Monday off from work as well because he didnt want to drive while taking the pain killers.  This was the first time he took narcotic painkillers & he was hysterical on them. He wouldn't stop talking on the second day.  He's on the quiet side but we discussed everything. I also recommend putting something like an old wadded up towel under & around your mouth while sleeping to catch any spit & blood.

Good luck!

wow- i thought being awake for my hysterectomy was pretty amazing but geez - hip replacement?? (i remember talking to my doctor and asking to see my uterus. he passed a metal bowl with my uterus in it and i got to look...DURING surgery).  and speaking of hips, mine hurts something awful. it is affecting how i walk. finally got a cortisone shot in my back last week for the back pain that i thought was causing the hip pain. back is better but hip is worse...go figure.

So I've been feeling a little sorry for myself because my birthday was this past week and neither my sister nor my dad sent me a present (I know, I know, I'm five evidently). My sister did call me on my birthday. I finally remembered to listen to my voicemail on our landline and my dad (who is in a care facility suffering from dementia) left me a voicemail on my birthday where all he does is sing all three birthday songs to me (our extended family has a whole song cycle for birthdays) and then hangs up. Now I have to figure out how to preserve that message forever.

Happy birthday (belated)!  I understand about the phone message.  My dad died in 2015 and I have the last message from him on my phone.  I cannot even listen to it, never have since it would upset me too much to hear his voice and I would be heartbroken if I lost it.

Thanks @lookyloo and @MargeGunderson.  I don't usually do any social media, but I will check out your suggestions.  As soon as get back into town I will try something.  I would like to try a small roast, but I have some chicken quarters in the freezer that I will try, too.  I'm looking forward to this adventure.  I've heard so much about the Instant Pot, I decided I needed to get in on the "action"!

Can you do a corned beef brisket?

On an unrelated note, I’m thinking good thoughts for all of you in Florida/Alabama/Georgia in the path of Hurricane Mike. Check in when you can.

Corned beef is amazing in the instant pot. So tender, and your house doesn’t reek!  I made pulled pork tonight, which is a go-to quickie. Actually made twenty lbs of the stuff as part of my daughter’s grad party food this past summer.  Hard boiled eggs are a snap, and the shells jump off.

Should you see a pork ribeye roast at the grocery store, try it (assuming you eat pork).  They’re naturally tender and juicy and do well in crock pots/Instapots.

Chip and Joanna are fundie jerks in a nicer package. Why would you need to wear leggings under your dress to play withyour brothers?  Especially since they make play shorts . I wish we would have had play shorts like these when I was a kid.

Wearing leggings under dresses is very common. Most of the girls in my grandson's combined Kindergarten/1st grade class last year wore leggings when they wore dresses to school. It's a compromise when little girls want to dresses all the time, but they also want to play on the playground equipment and tumble around freely. The reason it bothers me when the Duggars and other Fundy family put their little girls in leggings all the time is that they aren't allowing their daughters to have the option of wearing shorts or pants instead.

My mission in May was to find "skating skirts."  They are skirts with built-in shorts.  The pre-school my granddaughter attends mandates that shorts or leggings must be worn under all dresses or skirts.  The wearing of leggings under dresses no longer seems at all strange to me.  Granddaughter doesn't live in Podunk either.  She's in the Los Angeles suburbs.   The Duggars may have been a bit before their time on this one.

I had xrays done in 1/2015... all 4 teeth are at 90 degree angle. The doc wanted to remove them then... I freaked out and ran out never to return.

Im in such pain now that I’m willing to do it. The dentist is across the street. I’m scared but I cannot take the pain anymore.

This happened to my best friend!!! She had horribly painful, infected gums, and she was so relieved to finally get the teeth out. I can't imagine how much that hurt!!! Good news is that she said she improved DRAMATICALLY after getting them removed, as the gum infection quickly went away too. I would definitely say go ahead and get them out as early as you can! She said life improved a whole lot for her immediately upon removing them.

I have a QVC knock off version that is still in the box.  After all this talk about how quickly it cooks brisket and pulled pork (2 of my favorites) I'm going to have to give it a try.

in an effort to have a fully working browser, I switched over from chrome to internet explorer (? the big blue e). this is just a test switchover, really. anyway, now I see ads here on PTV all over the place. I never understood why there were empty spaces after every few forums on my counting on page...now I see that ads are inserted.

the question is - are the ads worth putting up with to avoid the unending blue circles that indicate 'thinking' when I try to use chrome.   and my computer assistant no longer lives here to help me. ah well, if I can access my genealogy pages easier here on 'E', then I guess I can put up with ads.

AdBlock Plus.  It's free and easy to download, and I don't see any ads (according to the icon, it blocked 9 on this page alone).  If you need to disable it, it's very easy.  I have noticed a lot of online newspapers and sites will not let you view an entire article with it on, so I will disable it for the view, and immediately turn it back on.  It's been a lifesaver!

Mr. Six had his gallbladder removed in 2008.  He kept calling me "the nice lady who brought his glasses".  He was telling every nurse how nice I was, and he was so grateful that he could see, all because of me.  I went into a panic thinking something was wrong, and every single nurse just stood there laughing.  The car ride home was fun too, but he passed out rather quickly.

Speaking of cars, we're in the throws of car shopping.  The lease on my car is expiring January 1st, but we can do it any time until then.  My father-in-law always bought Fords, and that's what Mr. Six would do as well.  Since they really dropped the ball, along with half their lineup, we are now looking at other options.  Does anyone happen to have a Mazda CX-7 or CX-9 Touring/Grand Touring OR a Subaru Crosstrek?  We're really focusing on those models, but we know very little about any of them.  Tomorrow will be spent at the Mazda dealership browsing.  It's going to be a long day.

I agree with the recommendation for AdBlock. Works like a charm.

The first car I bought myself was a used Mazda 626 with 118,000 miles on it. Bought it for $2500 and drove that thing for close to a decade. I was hoping to get enough miles on it to have driven to the moon but it was not going to pass California's smog regulations without more money than I was willing to put into it. My sister has a Mazda 3 that she likes and she is TOUGH on cars. So my experiences have been good. Not that you asked, but I would never, repeat NEVER buy an Audi. We had an all-wheel drive Audi that had just random stupid things wrong with it all the time (like a rear window that just decided not to stay closed--and there are only two of us; we never even used the rear window), chewed through tires, and guzzled oil. Never again.

(but I've been converted to Tesla...)

I test drove a CX-9. It rode well but was lacking in head room for the two back rows. I’ve got nieces and nephews over 6 feet so it didn’t work for me.

The CX-9 had a very odd headroom configuration up front. I’m just shy of six feet and I could not get the driver’s seat and headroom set up comfortably. DH is 6’2. He couldn’t get it right either. I ended up with a Ford Edge. Love it.

Not that anybody asked (or cares!) but I always always had good luck with Honda’s.  I never had the SUV’s, but Civics and Accords.  My bp ertpy first one was a Civic with about 125k miles.  I drove it up to almost 200 and sold it to a friend.  She then drove it up to almost 300.  In all the years we had that car between us, we changed a water hose.  I never repaired anything on any of the other Honda’s (which got progressively newer over time).  My oldest son grew up in the middle of my Honda phase (I had five in a row, which covered a big chunk of his lifespan).  He and his wife, best friend and MIL are all Honda owners.  In fact, he’s never owned anything but a Honda in his adult life.  I hear he’s getting a new one after Christmas.  Oh boy!  We sound like a commercial.  Certainly felt I got my money’s worth every time.

Currently im driving a VW Tiguan.  It has been an excellent car, absolutely no repairs of any kind.  Just maintenance.  I bought it used but under 10,000 miles in 2010 and I still love that little car.  It’s not a beast to drive, suits me well, good enough gas mileage, it’s comfortable, storage is good and has enough zip to be fun to drive.  I hesitate to recommend it because I may have bought the only reliable one ever made.  I’ve known 2 other people who hated theirs and couldn’t get out of them fast enough.

aaaaaaaand I haven’t bragged about my grands in a minute, so here we go.  I have 2 granddaughters who are 10 (cousins - same grade, same school).  One of them (Paige) just did a 4H project and it got thrown my way.  I wanted a pillow to replace one on the rocker in the LR.  I also had a placemat I’d bought that was cute and was sewn together front and back, that was going to be perfect for the job.  So I had her take it apart and add trim.  She’d never sewn an inch in her life.  She used a seam ripper and separated the pieces, used the zipper foot to put her trim on, added a zipper.  Used the old pillow for stuffing (recycling).  The 4H leaders want her to enter it in the county competition.  She got hung up on one corner and asked me to sew it.  Other than that, she did the whole thing.  She’s so proud!  I’m pretty proud too... I may have spawned a crafting buddy!

The other one (Adeline) is in chorus in school (they both are).  The school wants to do a production of Annie for Christmas.  The music teacher picked 4 girls out of all the fifth grade classes and had them audition for the lead.  Addy was one of the 4.  She’s already done the audition but we don’t know anything yet.  Isn’t that cool??

@Happyfatchick What lovely news! I loved 4-H when I was a girl. So glad that she has a place to learn and chat about her sewing and crafting. I remember going to the county fairs and seeing all the beautiful clothes that they had made and food that they had canned.  It’s also a nice bonding time for you both.

Fingers crossed for Addy, but either way it will be nice for you to look forward to seeing her in the school play during the holidays. My nephew was in Annie many many years ago. He played Sandy the dog lol.

HFC, my previous car was also a VW Tiguan and it was a total piece of crap. In the 6 years I owned it, I put thousands of dollars in repair in it. It was random stuff, too. I turned a corner and a rod broke, one day the coolant system just fell out of the car, the oil leaked, etc. I hated that car.

Hmm, my Headship is considering getting a Tiguan some day and you're all making me nervous. I have a VW Jetta and we both absolutely love it, so it made sense to replace his current Ford Escape with another VW when the time comes. Funny thing, though, we once rented a Mazda 6 and we both despised it. We returned it as soon as we could. Car shopping seems to be a very personal thing.
