bluebonnet November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 omg. ok, this may be an unpopular opinion but i love the meta episodes. LOVE THEM. Always. This one might go down as my very favorite meta episode. I laughed out loud so many times and then there was that feel good warm feeling within my tv heart at the idea of the boys getting back to the basics. Of course seeing Chuck there at the end sealed the deal. tl;dr - squeeeeee. 19 Link to comment
lovebug871 November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I just yelled at my tv with that ending! 2 Link to comment
elzin November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 Dead. I'm dead. That was unreal, even for SPN standards. Best episode in years. 13 Link to comment
mustbekarma November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) Oh. My. Chuck. I think I fudging loved this episode. The musical was completely on crack, but it was so damn earnest and tongue in cheek at the same time. The little director/writer/artist girl was freaking adorable as Sam (oops, she didn't play Dean). I actually teared up at "Carry On, My Wayward Son." I have not loved an episode of Supernatural in years. Hell has frozen over. Edited November 12, 2014 by mustbekarma 9 Link to comment
AlliMo November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) Jensen Ackles is, as always, King of the Reaction Shots. That was genuinely one of the most enjoyable episodes I've seen in ages. Dee-lightful. Also, I may demand they make a download available of "A Single Man Tear." Edited November 12, 2014 by AlliMo 7 Link to comment
JennB November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) I'm not going to pretend I didn't go fan girl during this episode. I'm 32. My life was not supposed to be like this. The actress playing Marie was terrific. I love talented guest stars. I was nervous when I heard about a musical episode. I thought it would be cheesy. I felt a lot better when I heard the plot. This was so much better than I expected. Edited November 12, 2014 by JennB 4 Link to comment
mustbekarma November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) The actress playing Marie was terrific. I love talented guest stars. That was the director/writer who played SAM (Not Dean) at the end, right? Because she was amazing. She is honestly what made this episode work. And I want a download of their version of "Carry On, My Wayward Son." I get confused. Edited November 12, 2014 by mustbekarma 3 Link to comment

Jediknight November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 We got every opening credit sequence ever. That was awesome. I'd like to know how Jensen and Jared kept a straight face this entire episode. This episode was a whole lot of fun. You had the guys' reactions to the musical, Dean's fight with the scarecrow, Sam stopping Dean from getting out the Ghost Busters quote completely out, the musical version of "Carry On, Wayward Son", Dean getting mad at how the musical went against what really happened, and everyone not believing Sam and Dean were really Sam and Dean till the end. This was the best episode since Changing Channels. There was just one problem, I wanted to see the robots. 8 Link to comment
bettername2come November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 That was good. So many funny moments, and I loved the moment where the girl realized he really was Dean. I loved that ending. I want that intro song. It's gonna be stuck in my head for years. Maybe they can make it downloadable like they did "O Death." I always love watching Dean get pissed off by the brotherly slash fic. I also love a classic, "Sammy's been kidnapped" plot, so this one worked for me. And they saved everyone! Warm, happy feelings all around. Except for Adam. Oh, and Bobby standing up at "Once I rose above the noise and confusion" was terrific. Jensen Ackles is, as always, King of the Reaction Shots I'd like to nominate, "Realizes he just called a teenage girl a bitch" for Best Reaction Shot of the evening. 9 Link to comment
JennB November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 That was the director/writer who played Dean at the end, right? Because she was amazing. She is honestly what made this episode work. She was the director/writer, but she played Sam. I realized after the fact that, for the first time, there were only three male characters in an episode. All the guest stars (except Rob Benedict) were women. 2 Link to comment
SueB November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) Adorbs. Favorite bits from initial watch: -"Then" being the starting script - CHUCK! CHUCK! I knew we had yet to see the other man so as soon as she got excited, I knew it was Chuck. - SAMULET. And Dean taking it anyway and putting it on the mirror. Is it me or did anyone else feel like that was SO F*CKING FANTASTIC. I needed that BM. Sorry.... those initials are stuck in my head now. - Cas just waiting...with a song. - The look of HORROR on their face as they realize what they stepped into. - Sam's inner geek causing him to play with the tech board. Hee. The actress who played the writer/director/actor was outstanding. She nearly stole the show. Finally, although I imagine there will be more gems in a re-watch, what struck me (once again), was how the boys (J2) took the material and made it spectacular. The Carry On Song was lovely. The look on their faces..... made it a HUGE moment for me. Edited November 12, 2014 by SueB 8 Link to comment
Dust Bunny November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I haven't watched this show regularly in 3 years, but I had to tune in tonight. It was cool that even though I haven't seen most of the new stuff, I didn't really need to; I loved all the calls to the past. And I love how it ended with the spirit of the show's beginning -- on the road. Chuck's presence was a great way to wrap it up. Kudos to those girls. They did a lot of weight-lifting in this episode. 200 episodes is pretty remarkable this day and age. Congrats to all. 7 Link to comment
omelas November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 As someone who has been here from the beginning this was awesome. I choked up at "Carry On" and need to hear "One Manly Tear" another 10x times. "You have your version, and I have mine" sounds perfect. Loved it. 6 Link to comment
Morrigan2575 November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) This was a love letter to the fans and it was perfect. I loved this freaking episode and I'm not big on the Meta episodes. To this day I won't watch The French Connection. I loved this episodes, I cried a little at "Carry On Wayward Son" and freaking screamed when I figured out the publisher was Chuck! Even before we saw him, I knew it was Chuck. Someone on Twitter said there was a Kim Manners reference but I missed it. Can someone fill me in? Thanks! bethy November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I have not enjoyed a Supernatural episode so much in years. I teared up at Carry on My Wayward Son and thought that what they did with the amulet was so perfect I can't even articulate how much I loved it. Dean and "Sam" having a moment by the car, her giving him the amulet, Dean saying he didn't need anything to remind him how he felt about his brother, hanging it on the rearview mirror and the look they exchanged. Just, gah. 7 Link to comment

SueB November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 Does this mean Chuck is God? The next prophet was supposedly not activated until the current one died. But if Chuck was God, he could activate anyone he wants and disappear. I think this solidifies that the person in the THEATER, who looked like Chuck, was God. Now was Chuck ALWAYS God or just in Swan Song? IDK. That's debatable, but I think "God" is still in the SPN universe. I am THRILLED we saw Chuck but it does bring up the question if he's coming back or not. My guess is no. He's happy to let the story play out. Also, I forgot to mention that I'm glad they mentioned ADAM! Yes Adam! Go get him boys. 5 Link to comment

AwesomO4000 November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 Okay, I agree with JennB - I'm too old to be fangirling, but I so was. I loved all the Supernatural beginnings. Of course Sam played with the tech board. Of course he was hung up on the pronunciation of Destiel. Dean missed a chance to make fun of Sam when he asked why not Sasstiel though (Dean so should have said "Something you want to tell me, Sammy?"), but I guess he was still flumoxed by the Destiel. Of course Sam got Samnapped - but at least he partially saved himself this time. Of course Dean was annoyed at the embellishments - hee - and said "there's no singing in Supernatural". I loved his "oh yeah that thing needed to burn." And of course the scarecrow was lame compared to the real one. It might change later, but right now I think my favorite line was "What she said." That and Dean's pep talk speech - which borrowed from something else a la his speech in the LARPing episode with Charlie. Oh, and that actress who played Dean had some great Dean smirking going on. I think this solidifies that the person in the THEATER, who looked like Chuck, was God. Now was Chuck ALWAYS God or just in Swan Song? IDK. That's debatable, but I think "God" is still in the SPN universe. Interesting idea. I think in my head canon now this is going to be it. Chuck was Chuck until "Swan Song" and then God took over / replaced him / what have you. The last 200th episode I felt this way about was Stargate: SG 1 - which was its own brand of meta and awesome. I'm going to go watch this episode again. 7 Link to comment
amazinglybored November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) It was really meh to me. It happened, they've done worse and they've definitely done way better. 200 episodes is really impressive, the 200th episode is a thing that happened. I don't think they were as clever as they thought they were (a common theme now), but the guy with the poncho made me laugh; it had other moments. I thought they did a good job casting and styling the girls aesthetically in drag on the stage. Please don't actually have Chuck back as God, show. So, there are two things with tv/movies that I'll hate 99% of the time and I don't even think it's my fault, it's theirs. Child actors, they're usually awful and the writing for them is bad. Teenaged characters, writers live in a different world. Edited November 12, 2014 by amazinglybored Link to comment

bluebonnet November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I really hope they don't drop the Adam line. I don't expect them to get him from the cage (not interested in watching that ball of man pain play out for half a season) but a good mention here and there would be nice. 2 Link to comment
MostlyC November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I cannot tell a lie. I squeeed like a fangirl at the end. The supporting cast (i.e., the director, stage manager, and cast) did the lion's share of the work, but Sam/Dean's reactions were priceless. 4 Link to comment
AwesomO4000 November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 Oh I forgot to mention: the Gordon Lightfoot was awesome, even if a little distracting. catrox14 November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) Very sweet episode. Also fuck you show with the samulet. Man. Jensen Ackles is still just the best with deadpan reactions.Gotta be honest I was not thrilled to see Chuck like at all. It just brought back all my loathing of Swan Song. And why did Dean get his ass kicked again? That is really bugging me. Why isn't the MoC making him strong again? I really need this addressed, show.Loved the girl that played Marie. She was excellent. Also. 'Kick it in the ass' was my favorite line of the entire episode. ETA: Dean being grumpy and annoyed by it all is so perfect and gives me life. Ferniesfreckles November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) I loved this! I'm not gonna lie, I was laughing so much that I honestly thought Marie was saying the girls who were playing "Sam" and "Dean" were a couple in real life. I thought, oh no, they didn't! Talk about hearing what you want to hear. Teared up at the end, too. Vlada, from TVLine, said the songs would be available on ITunes Wednesday morning! Wasn't the term "Samulet" coined on the other, now defunct TWOP? Edited November 12, 2014 by Ferniesfreckles 1 Link to comment

miles2go November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 Liked it pretty well, definitely a fun episode. The music -- well, let's just say it reminded me why I dislike most musicals. Poor Calliope got a bad rap. She's nothing like that in mythology. And, yeah, I'm glad to see Chuck again. Link to comment

MrHufflepuff November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I hate the meta episodes. But then they said they hate the meta episodes inside the episode. Too much meta! My brain asplodes! I thought it was pretty amusing, and the meta episodes are pretty hit-or-miss for me. I did think it was odd that the school itself didn't try to shut down the musical. Hey, two people associated with the musical have disappeared. Let's keep it running. I guess the school has a Calliope clause in its liability insurance contract. If they're bringing back Chuck, can they bring back Kevin too? Does this means they're going to try and get their step-brother out of Hell? Link to comment
Pete Martell November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I'm not a fan of the meta stuff. Hated what they did with Becky. I tolerate it with Charlie because she has more layers than just the in-jokes, but that's about it. The jokes about Wincest and Destiel feel stale as hell to me. I feel like the show believes all fans watch for shipping and all fans are young girls who coo and blush and write angsty, self-conscious meta and have social media wars. That is a portion of the fanbase, no doubt, and frankly if the show wanted to it could roast the fandom alive like one of Dany's dragons on GoT, but it just feels...dated. I really wish they'd just stop doing gods on this show. I thought the songs were very catchy, and beautifully sung, and it was nice to see Chuck again, and to honor Rob Benedict that way, with such a sweet cameo. I think I'll remember this and try to forget the rest. Link to comment
Rammfan November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I love the meta episodes ("The French Mistake" is my favorite; funniest thing - not just of the show - I've ever seen), and I was kind of scared of this one because of the musical aspect, but I ended up absolutely loving it. I'm going to have to watch it again, because I'm sure I missed a lot of things, as I do on the first watch. It's kind of amazing how much the show and the fandom is intertwined. I love that they know how some of us feel about the Samulet and how they responded to that feeling, both ways (Dean saying he doesn't need the amulet to remind him how he feels about his brother and then later putting the prop amulet on Baby's rear-view mirror), was really touching. I'm still squeeing a bit over the whole thing -- 200th episode, complete loss of the fourth wall, their response to us, our response to them -- it's pretty special and I wonder how many people truly realize that. To me, the show isn't just a show, to be picked up and put down depending on how I feel about it. It's like a family member, whom you love no matter what and your life would be less without. 4 Link to comment

mertensia November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 So....the faux amulet worked? It found God? I laughed when Calliope was dissing the whole robot and tentacles part of the play. This was really well done and they found some teenage actresses who can act. 1 Link to comment
MrHufflepuff November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 Was that initial conversation between Sam and Dean about whether or not this was a real case part of the meta? Every time that convo pops up in an episode, I find it really annoying. Link to comment
