The game is about to change when castaways drop their buffs and come together on the same beach.  Castaways must find a hidden advantage to earn a huge lead in the challenge.  Then, individual immunity is up for grabs for the first time this season.

This is the episode's actual discussion thread for after the episode airs.

Well, as a black person who usually roots for his peeps to go far, I'm kind of bummed that all three of them are gone and none of them will be on the jury, at least.  But at the same time, Aysha was the only one of those three whom I liked, so no real loss for T.K. or Rome.

I do not.  Anika at least seemed like a nice person, while Rome was a complete jerk who's had this coming for weeks now.

As glorious as seeing Rome get his torch snuffed was, an honorable mention goes to Andy (who I would have been fine seeing leave) be shocked that his name was the backup, and he wasn't informed.  I'm sort of surprised that Sam and Sierra were so quick to agree to that, but I never believed Andy was masterminding anything in that alliance.  He apparently thought he did, though.

Another bonus was only one person having immunity and not half the tribe being immune.  We might have missed this tonight otherwise.  Also, whose bright idea was it to let Rome be a part of the maze in the IC?  After seeing how he blew that puzzle, I wouldn't trust him in a crucial stage.

I loved Sue's red paint coming back to haunt her from her immunity idol, but kudos to her for being the last woman standing and the second to last person in the IC.  I love seeing the older contestants thrive when so many years those challenges were geared toward the young and the fit.

And another kudos to Genevieve for not completing breaking Jeff's heart and going back out to look for the advantage.  I would have loved to have seen the look on his face if they all showed up at the immunity challenge and said they didn't look for it for very long before giving up.

Overall, a pretty solid episode.  I really couldn't believe Rome was leaving, as it seemed way too obvious.  He took his exit well though, probably because he thinks they were threatened by him.  But he did it to himself, so I can't feel sorry for him.  I feel like he took a page out of Kishan's book for stirring crap up and hit warp speed.

h/t the B-52s.  "Rome if you want to......"  good riddance.

Such arrogance.

Can Scruffy Kyle win this season?  How will Sue's vendetta play out?

Enough with the damn mud! You can't tell who anybody is.  oy.

Kirk Hinrich catching a stray out of nowhere is something I never expected from Survivor.

With all of the material Rome gave the editors to work with, there must have been a rager in the film room every night.

I really  like  Kyle,  glad he  won the first ( very ugly) immunity  necklace.
Rome  has left the  building and  he  was   blindsided! The Rome who said said goodbye,  is the  Rome  I liked.
Those challenges,  that mud,  gah! Loved it!

Agreed! The red paint was something tossed in from the producers that actually had a fun payoff, I love that. And still more to come! Also great seeing her almost win immunity, despite being "45" (ha).

It did make for a fun visual, though, when they were all sitting there with a crystal clear Genevieve in the middle. Just looked like everyone else was blurred out, almost.

In my head . . .

Probst: Well, Rome, you’re going out of game and you will not make the jury. Any last words?

Rome: Mmmmmph! Mmmmmmmpppph!

Probst: Oh, right, you can’t say anything because you've been going down on yourself for six episodes, and you can’t “disengage.”

Rome: MMMMMMMMMMMMMPPPPPHHH!

Probst: Indeed. (calling out) Can I get a few guys to roll him to the Losers’ Lounge?

*sigh* I went back to recording Survivor tonight, and I kind of regret it. Yes, the episode lacked evidence of significant evolution, but the boot was satisfying.

My iPad is down to 10 percent power, so I’ll end it here.

So glad to see the last of Rome, pre jury. fHe was exhausting…one of those people who have to be the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every uneral. Of course he did the maze, of course he sat in Jeff’s seat! At first I thought that there would be a last minute switch, even at tribal, but then I realized that they were playing the episode for comedy, featuring Rome’s boasting against what we knew was about to happen.

I thought it was fun, though I do wish the food reward winners would have been allowed to wash first. I’m sure they wanted to, so TPTB must have said no, for whatever inscrutable reason.

Hey…Sam ate a piece of pineapple! And he liked it! Next week he graduates to strained peaches, like a big boy.

Haha to Andy, that dumb idiot. I was not surprised Sam and Sierra agreed to it - you could see the pause before Sam agreed, and now Sierra's just kind of in for the ride since she didn't hold out last week.  Unpopular opinion coming - I enjoy the young people (usually guys - sorry!) who are just so happy to be there.  I've been trying to hold my grudge against Sam because of the Andy issue, but I'm having a hard time 😄

I did like the fact that no one besides "no-idol Kyle" was immune!  What made me angry:  we didn't get to see the "schoolyard pick" for the teams!

The bit about the red paint was kind of awesome, in a way I bet the producers didn't think of.  Sue's chin implant drives me nuts, but I'd be okay with her winning.

As for Rome - I figured he had to be going and the editors were just allowing us to participate in the shadenfraude (sp?). I can see where he was too annoying for words, but I didn't have to live with him and kind of enjoyed him as another young character who was so excited to be there.  Why he deserved it:  he was on the losing side, and therefore in the minority in numbers, and it never occurred to him that just announcing to the winning half who was going might backfire on him.

Add me to the list of people that loved that only one person had immunity and everyone else was vunerable. It's better that way.

This episode clearly was letting the audience know that Rome was going tonight. Good riddance to him, never liked the guy one bit.

Can Sam please go next? His whole "I love pineapple" was not funny or necessary. That little worm works my last nerve.

They made every effort to show Rome being overconfident and show how often he was confidently wrong.

The entire group was given the go-ahead to openly look for the advantage and still gave up after a few minutes because "there're too many trees to chose from."

Sam dismissed the buoy immediately as probably not important and even Genevieve complained of not wanting to get wet and having to worry about sharks.

It's going to be a whole load more relaxing without Rome coming for my boy Sol, and with Kyle and Sol being sympatico. I loved the way Kyle said, 'What a dick!' about Rome.

If Sue gets in there, too, it will be a great season for me. But then she does like to hold a grudge. I really don't care about anyone else left.

I guess Rome wasn't built in a day...or at all.[cue CSI sting]

What I wouldn't give for an iteration of Survivor where there were a bunch of contestants who were not so self-conscious about being on Survivor, who were not so impressed with their own gameplay that they already had convinced themselves that they were going to be one of the all-time greats. Or even a single such contestant to show some level of restraint, modesty and strategy.

It boggles the mind that Rome thought that spreading information willy-nilly would work out for him. Because it's absolutely predictable that he might be fact-checked and that the fact-check would backfire. Even though he actually was on the level with the information he was spreading, it should be obvious that it would get back to the players he was spreading information about and that they would then be like "keep my name out of your mouth!"

In other news, there was a point that made me laugh where Kyle said something about being a dumbass, and Andy -- one of the bigger dumbasses -- piped up and said something.  Thank you for leaving that moment in, editors

Thanks for posting this. I figure any challenger playing Survivor spends all their energy playing mind games, developing fake alliances, and enduring physical challenges.

So yeah, when they have their torch snuffed out, I have no issue with them being a bad loser. I would have been so angry at being blindsided. And yes, I'd process it better the next day, but not at tribal.

And these new era casts just look too clean.  I mean their clothes, hair, skin.  Seriously at TC last night, when some of them were talking, they had such white teeth!  It reminded me of those gum commercials from the 90s where the lady got splattered in the face with mud, but the gum kept her teeth super white.

I actually love that Sol wanted to be out there looking but didn’t dare because he didn’t want to draw attention to himself.  But seriously, I don’t think anyone but Rome would have cared by the looks of it.  But this is like Kiddie Survivor, appropriate for ages 3-5.

Does anyone think Jeff had a hunch Rome was going to be gone and that's why he allowed him to be tribal host for a minute?

And I admit, if felt good to see Andy and Rome's faces immediately fall when they saw their names written, especially given this was right after they were laughing about enjoying Anita's blindside.

This a thousand times.

Rome was the most recent and obvious case.  He didn't mind losing the game half as much  as he loved  getting to sit on Probst's seat because "that's what I do!" and he likes to think he was entertaining and he believes his career is going to soar to glittering heights now, and,  I don't know, here in the Idiocracy, he might just be right.

I realize I ff a lot because of the edited conversations, but I was curious if Rome thought anyone was voting with him?

Rome voted Sam, and Sue and Sol voted Andy? I missed the reasoning. The rest voted Rome, so that tells me Sue & Sol have to start explaining, before they're booted out.

That? Was glorious!

Rome didn't learn the #1 rule of sharing information - you have to get it exactly right. You need to report someone else's words verbatim so they can't wriggle out.  But no, he thought he'd embellish what people were saying and it bit him in the butt. He made it so easy to deny everything he was saying!

I even enjoyed the immunity challenge - I love those table mazes. And of course, Rome was heaving the ball every which way - it was a perfect visual encapsulation of his whole game.

In 6 weeks, the only genuine, sincere emotion I saw from Rome was his joy & gratitude at getting a  chance to sit on the Probst Throne and pontificate - and the funny thing was, he was exactly right in his evaluation of the amulets advantage - his background as an esports commentator came out then.

Sol could not get that shit-eating grin off his face. He's had to take so much shit from Rome, he deserved his moment.

Looking forward to Andy's renewed paranoia breakdown.

Sam's dismissal of the buoy was emblematic of everything wrong with New Era Survivor - no hustle!

Andy was the back up in case Rome had an idol or played his shot in the dark. Everyone knew Sol was voting for Andy as backup. Rome was so sure everyone was voting Sol that he decided to shake things up by throwing a vote on Sam. He said so in the voting booth - that he was so sure everyone was voting Sol that his vote wasn’t needed.

Jeff, what's the point of making such a big deal of a schoolyard pick if you're not going to show the damn thing. Who were the captains? Who was picked last? This is the kind of content 90-minute episodes are dying for!

It's really odd they didn't show that. Were they trying to spare the feelings of whoever got picked last? Was it too much of a giveaway for something else? Then why even include Jeff saying it would be a schoolyard pick? Strange.

I had forgotten about this recent dumb merge challenge that left half the cast immune from the vote. I think last season there were only like five or six people eligible to vote for. Maybe the show got the note everyone hated that.

Yeah, Andy's gloating about Anika really hit me the wrong way.  I would have been just as happy to see him gone.  but the two votes giving him pause was good, too. I hope Kyle wins, former foster kid playing for his family....that's who I'd like to see take it all.

I know!  A mysterious bouy shows up exactly when "tree mail" instructs you to look for a mystery prize and King Sam dismisses it out of hand, causing everyone else to say "It must be in the trees!"  and....  Yeah.  Then Genevieve rethinks it, realizes, duh, that's got to be it.....then still hems and haws about swimming out to get it.  Is this the Instacart, Grubhub, and Amazon Same-Day delivery generation?

I'm actually really disappointed that Sol didn't get the satisfaction of voting for Rome.  I know he said he'd vote for the decoy, so was that him hedging his bets that Rome survives and he can keep an alliance with him by saying he didn't write Rome's name down?  Or was Sol fearing Rome was like a cockroach and would survive the vote, and he was saving himself some grief by honestly being able to tell Rome he voted for Andy?  I couldn't imagine what Rome doubling-down on the Sol harassment would look like, but I'll bet Sol could.  Or was that Sol desperate to stay in so he acquiesces to the larger anti-Rome alliance and agreed to vote for the decoy?

I also like Sam and Sierra as the bickering, non-couple who got out Anika for me.  (Thank you, guys).

I read where some people don't like Sam here but next to Sol he is my favorite.  I liked how they bonded right away after the merge with Sam saying he'd rather work with Sol than Andy.  Yeah I imagine anyone would but I like the idea of them and Sierra forming a solid three.

I also like Teeny and I want Andy to stay awhile for his entertainment value.  His grand delusions amuse me greatly.

I think Gabe will become more interesting one way or the other soon.  Don't know how yet but he is running around like a caffeinated Wiley Coyote making crazy plans and I am here for it.

Yes.  The camera crew work in shifts and brief production and the raw footage is also summarized for Probst.  Not a hunch.  He knew.  Period.  He has denied knowing stuff through the years but that is all PR misdirects.

Sol and Sue did EXACTLY what they were assigned to do by the whole group.  Place votes of a Plan B in case Rome had a third but totally hidden advantage/idol nobody knew about.

This is the standard Survivor safety measure that assures that if Rome got wind of things at the last moment and did have something to save his skin with then whoever Rome was voting for would NOT go out since it would be 2 to 1 against the Plan B guy.

Sam vote?  Rome thought everybody but Sol would vote for Sol so he was trying to perhaps set up Sam.  Or, more likely, set somebody up he planned to frame the "Sam vote" on (Kyle maybe?) for the next eviction by setting Sam against the patsy he created.

Sam is fine by me to stay for a while, so long as he assists Sol staying in the game. Teeny is somewhat endearing but not a good player thus far.
