S13.E12: Baby It's Cold Inside

In the city after their trip to Salem, Eboni and Sonja get back in the boxing ring with Martin. While Luann and Leah plan a joint birthday party for Ramona and Sonja, Eboni continues her search for answers about her family history. The women join Luann to record her new holiday song for charity, but Leah has questions about legalities and the proceeds. Then the group celebrates Ramonja's birthdays with a grab bag of local eye candy.

Took until the end of the show but I think I finally get what Leah was on about. 

So she wasn't trying to protect herself from being sued, she was just pretending to do that so she wouldn't sound greedy. Really she's worried the song will make money and not all of it will go to charity and she thinks that means she, as a person who sang 8 words on it deserves a big piece of it. 

It took five minutes to record the thing, Leah. You can just decide not to sign the release if it's that bad. 

All Bershan wanted for Christmas was to not have to go to Eboni's next lecture.

As soon as Leah asked Luann if she could get the cake, I knew that they were going to be anatomy cakes.  

I appreciated that Ramona took it in good stride and didn't get all prudish about it - she actually laughed along.

Leah didn't want a Release of liability to sign for her protection she wanted a contract spelling out her cut of the proceeds. She let that slip out at the end. The apartment that Eboni was in when she was facetiming with her sister did not look like the apartment that she had when she gave the election night party.  Maybe she moved to a larger more elegant apartment.

The hypocrisy and fakeness of Eboni.  She's been on her high horse all season preaching, lecturing about black empowerment, then excludes the only other black cast member, Bershan from her Black Shabbat event.  And for no good reason.  She and Leah are ruining the show and need to go!

And any normal person would change the subject when Bershawn walked up. Or better yet, extend her an invite.  (Really the correct answer is don’t talk about events in a crowd when everyone is not included).

What was Sonja wearing to her birthday party?  It was very very awful.  She is very bloated too, she really needs to lay off the sauce.  I had to think for a minute if I liked Ramona's dress, and decided yeah, it was pretty short, but I still liked the dress.  All the other ladies looked great.  I agree with everyone about Eboni's green sweater.  I loved the color and it really suited her. 

I'm with Ramona, I don't want some strangers sexy grinding right in my grill.  Thanks but no, she did good giving that honor to Leah, who in fact turn into the sexy grinder.  Was there ever any doubt that she would?  And yes, Leah wants her piece of the Christmas Song pie, should there be a any...ever.  I don't really blame her though -which is a first- she should be watching her own back monetarily.  I wouldn't trust Lu or anyone else when it came to a buck.  Sorry, I just wouldn't. 

I was pretty chill with Eboni this episode since she was off her political soapbox, until the whole Black Jew Shabbat invite/ convo.  Not feeling so chill now, but her sweater was an amazing shade of green, so there is that 😏

Does Leah really think Luann’s horrible, sad attempt at a Christmas song is going to spend dozens of weeks on the music charts?  She was concerned Lu might only give proceeds to charity for a minute, then cash in on the big royalties, with no split sizes for the backup singers?? I haven’t heard the entire horrible, sad auto-tuned tragedy yet, but Leah, I can allay your concern: there will be very little money made from it.  The charity would be better off holding a bake sale to raise funds. And I am not sure who wrote that horrible, sad song, but he/she must have pulled up an online thesaurus app after listening to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You”.  IT’S THE SAME PREMISE!! So does this mean  Springsteen and his stable of lawyers won’t have a problem when my future chart topper, “Birthed in America” is released?

Eboni was pretty classless and rude to go on about her Black Shabat and invite the white women in front of Bershan.  My daughter knew not to do that when she was 7.  She never would have asked friends to her b-day party in front of other kids she wasn’t inviting. But Bershan is going to be the winner in that scenario anyway, and she knows it!  Talk about dodging a bullet.  

I know filming during COVID has really limited their activities, but that dual birthday party was pathetic. I knew the guest list would include straight men waaaay too young for these women (and waaaay too thirsty to be on tv). And of course, obligatory penis cake.  Forgot his name, but the “party planner” who was in charge of the Beauty Pageant really went for his personal worst with this Ramon-Ja birthday celebration.

If Luann and her partners really wrote that song, and it becomes a thing, I don't think the idea is so crazy.  I always think that anything Christmas-related is a huge money-making opportunity.  Look at how Mariah's AIWFCIY has staying power after 27 years.  And she co-wrote that song.  I know that song is 1 in a million, (I love her), but no matter how crappy a Christmas TV show, movie, or song is, people consume it around the holidays.  I think "Elf" is an okay to pretty good movie - not a great one - but I watch it every single year.

That being said, Luann's song sounds weird.

If the genders were reversed, I don't think anybody would be making the comments that the men were way too young for Ramona and Sonja.  The men all look 30+, they're not 20 years old.

I've got that scene on now and was just thinking the same thing!  Lu has great genes and hair I would probably  kill for but that talking head interview look doesn't even seem like the same person.  She goes from a magazine model to a weirdo with one stroke of the flat iron and gel. 

Leah "spoke to her attorney" about one line in one song. 🙄 I floved Luann telling her she only has one line and if she doesn't feel comfortable don't do it; plenty of other people would do it, haha.

Were people in NYC really having indoor parties in December or whenever this was taped?   I'm kind of stunned by it.  I live in the PNW and we built a shoot from pvc pipe to pass out Halloween candy, had Thanksgiving for three (instead of usual 23) and takeout for Christmas.  It was the same story with everyone I know in real life.

They did look out of place, but at the same time I got the distinct impression that they're used to hanging around older women with money. They were all giving off major gigolo vibes. Even when fully clothed, nude model guy is super cute.

Leah was being a ridiculous attention hog as usual.

There were a lot of people, in a lot of places, that were over it by Nov - Dec and decided to live life.  I’ve heard the Housewives had to be tested daily, so I would assume it was the same for party guests. So they did what they could but life must go on.

It reminded me of Ramona's birthday party for her 50 closest friends but did not have room for the 5 HW's she films with...Eboni not inviting Bershan was getting back at her for not siding with her at the Harlem dinner.  Black Shabbat sounds stupid, I hate to agree with Ramona, why does there have to be a color associated with it, just call it Shabbat dinner with friends.

That birthday party was nothing special, it was typical of all of their parties, male strippers are cheesy and rote, a penis cake, really? The too young guy that Ramona brought (at first glance I thought it was Georgi from 90 Day Fiance), could not look more like a rental if he tried.  

The awkward flirting was minimal, Eboni talking about lady parts seemed so thirsty, watching Leah give a lap dance was not a surprise but what didn't happen (unless I blanked out) was Lu singing a bad rendition of Happy Birthday.  We didn't see any gifts did we?

Also, a Marilyn Monroe was there, I guess we missed her act due to editing but of course, a MM impersonator but not a good one by the looks of her wig.

Leah is worried that Lu's song will be Number 1 with a bullet and she won't get a cut of the royalties...laughable, has anyone even heard that song aside from the show? Had Lu not included Leah she would have had her nose out of joint for sure and besides with all the auto tune that will be done with the HW's one line how could you tell who was actually singing?

Lu pointing out her new piano to Ramona was only so she could talk about her song, Ramona could not have cared less if Lu had Beethoven himself sitting there playing a song.

I forgot to ask about why Leah is not the one hosting a Shabbat dinner, isn't she the one converting to Judaism?

I can't wait to see her in action, will she even know the brucha for lighting candles or the brucha for the wine or challah?  That is basic stuff she could find on YouTube.

Still no questions about Leah's conversion from the other HW's which is strange because they never let go of anything and will bring up things that happened seasons ago, how can they let this unmentioned?

Which is why life didn't go on for everyone the holiday surge put into the dirt.

I mean, I think Leah is terrible, but I'm a little lost here on the reactions to Eboni vs. Bershawn.  The former has seems normal and thoughtful and intelligent, while the latter went on a weird attack unprovoked.  Well, I suppose now that I think about it, I guess I'm not lost.

I was liking Eboni this episode. Her apartment is pretty, talking to be possible sister was going well. Then she messes it up by announcing shes hosting (and I was falling asleep by this point) a black Shabbat but Bershan can’t come even though she’s black, she’s not Jewish? Really? After all her”educating” she’s going to exclude a black cast member? Bershan was right though, it will most likely suck.
Were the men at the party really going to hook up with the ladies? I thought they were gay.

HaHa .. they gathered all the young guys they had contact with thruout the show and stuck them on.  Where was the trainer from Ramona’s house that LuAnn was cuddling with?  All these women .. not one has a serious boyfriend between living in Manhattan and the Hamptons.  There’s too many young hotties around for these men.  Bring back Rocco and all the older guys from the Regency.

I don’t see the problem with Leah asking those questions. I actually see the problem with LuAnn not already having that spelled out before hand. Especially because she was already called out about not paying Sonja. Regardless of what the song may or may not do, it’s still good to have those things spelled out. One line or not. 
 

ETA: Why did Lu keep acting like Leah “should have” mentioned it when she already had??
