S02.E22: Never Stop Fighting

Saw the sneak peek last night.  First Thoughts:

Brittany, you need to leave.

I feel a bit for Ari because I get the feeling she has inherited her mother's anxiety.  If she's not careful, she'll give it to Avi and he'll be a bundle of nerves.  Bini doesn't get her because he doesn't share her anxiety.  Maybe being super anxious is mostly an American thing?  I don't know.

I liked Deavan's dress, but I got tired of watching her wedding, especially since she already is married and already had a wedding.

I watched the 20 minute preview.

Brittany, you need to leave and end your relationship. The translator was blunt about the folks around Yazan thinking you are a porn star. You are not going to change unless you want to do so. If you do have a shred of love for him, let him go. Getting him killed is not worth it.

More of the unnecessary Deaven wedding. All that time and expense so she can play princess for an hour. They were running late, holding up the next bride. The men got makeup too! Then the walk down the runway. Maybe the translator got it wrong, but I laughed at do you promise to love each other - no matter what. The dress was nicer than expected.

Have to say I barely watched the preview since I know the way things end with Devan and Jihoon.

Also the fact that TLC took that one month break I feel that I am so over these people.

Only here to see the drama with Jenny/Sumit/Parents Summit.  Hopefully they do not disappoint me.

Does Deavan have some weird vampire fixation?  She named her daughter Drusilla (female vampire on TV show "Angel") and her dyed hair and slight goth look even resembles the actress Juliet Landau.

Whatever love Bini has ever felt for Ari must be fading fast - and it's hard to imagine that she ever had anything more than the most superficial feelings for him.

I like a lot of things about Ari, but her marriage to Bini in Ethiopia and being with a  baby brings out the worst in her.

I have to say I was so bored I got up and did the dishes, and then shopped online.  I missed a lot but not that much.  So Deaven gets her wedding and she leaves Jihoon by the end of the episode. Spoiled, stupid, selfish little bitch.  Her little girl seemed very loving to Jihoon during their exit suggesting she isn't traumatized by him as Deaven would like us to think. Her Mother looked like a whale in the Korean dress, she could have put Jihoon's Mum in her pocket walking down the aisle lol.

The only person I dislike as much as Deaven is Brittany, she has no business being on this show and I think she finds herself attractive, personally I find her the opposite, she kind of looks manly to me.

I think Jenny and Sumit should call his parents bluff and do what they want to do.  I still believe if he were to threaten to move to the US with her they might back down... maybe not, but nothing to lose. Unfortunately that is probably not an option considering their lack of finances and skills.  Looking forward to the end of this season!....edited to add, I hadn't realized this was the finale.....HOORAY!

WTF no reunion! I was hoping for coming attractions.  This just blows!

I have a feeling the reason there isn't a reunion is because with the exception of Kenny and Armando, the other couples are kaput.

So does this mean we can expect Brittany and Yazan on the mothership show in a year?

Meanwhile, Sumit will soon realize that now that his mother knows a suicide threat will work, he can expect more of them anytime he doesn't do what she wants.

Jihoon and Deaven will likely never occupy the same room ever again.

I thought it strange that seemingly out of nowhere, a surly Ari handed Avi to Bini’s sister and ran to find him. As soon as she found him, she professed her love and he proposed. A “Will you marry me Ariella” banner and camera crew just happened to be there.  I would bet good money that a producer whispered to Ari what was supposed to happen. I believe that was a classic case of “production intervention”.

Oof.  What a damn mess.  Except for sweet Kenny and Armando.   I will say, most of these ppl looked like they felt sure the end of their story on the show was in fact the end of their relationship in some form or another.  I don't know how true that is in many cases, but that felt like a more cerebral (loosely) effort by the TLC ppl.  Weird we aren't getting a tell all.

1) Jenny and Mama's Emotional Blackmail Victim - I was wondering when Mother Sumit would hit the "I'll kill myself" drama.  She did not at all disappoint. That said, it is quite clear that homeboy was super relieved.  "well, can't take the chance...sorry...maybe we can get you to stay, but I'm not going to try too hard...here is a picnic by a cow with shitty wine and a ring that literally means NOTHING"  Honestly, Jenny would be better off going home and starting her life for the 3rd or 4th time.  This isn't for you, honey.  I'm sorry.  I know it is quite the blow, but girl, he has NO interest in marrying you.  After this season, I actually genuinely dislike Sumit too; he ain't shit.

2) Deaven and Jihoon - That was so weird, and didn't feel great, even though the factory wedding was nicer than they had any right to have. Somehow even made up, Deaven looked like a ghoul. Maybe it is her unpleasant demeanor.

Spoiler

Maybe it is that we know she comes back here to shack up with another Korean man and forget the idiot she had baby #2 with.  If I were that new Korean guy, I would be prepared for Baby #3. Bc she's a right idiot.

The continued saga of Deaven taking no responsibility for her own actions really drives their narrative.  I get that Jihoon is useless, but you had a baby and married him. Twice. Looking at him like you hate him while you pack your shit to run back home is partly your fault too, bish.  Taeyoung and his little chunky self has my heart, but deserves a much better parental situation.  Drisilla still seems like a mfing monster; I can't imagine being cooped up with her during quarantine.

3) Fucking Ari and Baby.  She's another one who needs to take responsibility for her choices.  She has anxiety.  This much is clear, but instead of trying to explain it to Baby, she just holds it in like a martyr and freaks the fuck out on him.  Even though I don't believe she is incorrect in feeling like it was too much with a 1 month old, she agreed to go.  Dressed her ass up and went only to start bitching like hell 10 steps into the festival.  There were kids everywhere; why is your little prince so damn special.  I unfairly cackled when Baby said in the most matter-of-fact way that she freaked out about the holy water b/c the evil spirit that possesses was scared.  Bro.  You proposed to a woman who you knocked up (outside of marriage...fun for you being super religious and all), treats you like shit, and who you amazingly think is possessed by an evil spirit.  GTFO, Baby.  You deserve her, demon spirit and all.  [unrelated:  I died laughing at the "will you marry me?" sign coming out after the proposal.  It is so on brand POC to mess up the timing of such things.  It felt like home to me.  "BRUV, where is the sign?"  "oh, is that now?  Ok, we do it anyway" /unrelated]

4) Happy that we got to see Yazan's yummy brother one more time.  Sigh. Now, the rest. I see these last couple of episodes, BritBrit going in for that sympathy cut.  Chile, we see you.  We know you don't really care all that much, and we know you are fucking around:  How in 45's America is Brit (questionable herself on the money sitch) going to petition to bring a Jordanian former fish market worker-now uber driver to this country?  GTFO.  She is done done done.

5) Finally, Kenny and Armando.  I honestly hope nothing for the best for these two.   They seem like 2 people in love trying to navigate their lives, and I wished there were more couples like them on these shows.  They aren't perfect.  Their families aren't perfect.  For the first time in ages, they didn't feel like a scam and even if I was annoyed at one of them (KENNY), I was rooting for them and little Hannah to be able to maintain a lovely household.

This is what TLC has posted regarding the lack of a Yell All

mov4pmnyoa261.png

think Armando said they filmed their part and Deavan said they didn't (and may not), so I'm not sure why they are not airing it around the end of the season like usual. Maybe everyone's scenes weren't ready. Someone suggested that they couldn't risk TFC's rating dropping more, so they do not want to interrupt it with the Tell Nothing. It's as good a reason as any. Plus they are trying to burn off that stupid Strikes Back! bullshit that for some reason, people actually watch.

I realized I've watched the entire season and don't give a tiny rat's hiney about any of these people.

I do have a question (because I'm bored by the storylines, so I notice these things.)  What's with the awful original music on this show? It sounds like something Emo Evelyn of Evelyn and David came up with.

The second she said it I thought she might use this as her "go to" move when one of her kids does something to displease her...Father Sumit did not bat an eye at that statement but maybe a thought bubble over his head would have said "Shit or get off the pot!"

Sumit carries a cooler to the picnic, he gives Jenny a ring and she is delighted but will he wear the ring Jenny bought him? He declined wearing before when he was married but now he is divorced, will Jenny put a ring on it and will it stay on?

I am surprised at none of these people are very likeable, except for Armando and Hannah.  Kenny grates on me with his "We NEED to be married!!  HOW DARE THEY REFUSE US???"  Hey Kenny, travel back in time with me.  Let's pretend it is 2012 (not that long ago) and you and your SO swagger up to the clerk's office to apply for a marriage license?  Yeah, that was only eight years ago so stick your indignity into your smooth wrinkle free skin and shut it.

Deavan is going to work on her marriage by flying to another continent and bone another guy.  Sounds a little off to me but hey what do I know?

Jenny/Summit:  So over them,  I hope they live in a hellhole with pennies for a food allowance and he is doomed to a life of "Summit?  Where are you going?  You can't leave me here for an hour! What will I do?"

Cheesy/Mayleeza - don't care but I care about the cat.  Hope Kitty is okay.

Yazan/Cleavage girl:  Just end it.  I guess talking about hard stuff rather than how cute his beard is can get a little rough, no?  You were in it for drama and IG followers, just put a pin in it.  Try to set your dad up with Yolanda.

So here is my positive thought-all of the American women look lovely when they wear the traditional clothing of the region in which they (very temporarily) live.  I also think Deaven looked lovely in her wedding dress.

I would imagine that a lot of the fighting between Jihoon and Deaven was about disciplining Druscilla or teaching her some manners.  I did notice that the puppy was not at their apartment.  Also, I would never believe in a million years the statement "I need to go to another country for a month in order to save our marriage..."  Maybe Deaven realized that after the marriage episode there was no more story for them, so off to start another love story for the ages...

Jenny sure presented a one-sided perspective about her time staying with father and mother Sumit (more of the real story is in their couple's thread).  She sure went quickly from 'I'm leaving' to angrily intervening in the argument.  The delusion is strong as Sumit clearly stated that the ring was not an engagement ring to Jenny presenting the idea that the ring meant they would be together forever.

Brittany just needs to go home and leave Yazan alone.  She still won't commit to him and instead is "we'll see what happens..."  She also blamed Yazan during the episode so is shifting any responsibility away from herself.

I think Sumit’s parents are emotionally abusive. Threatening to commit suicide if your son chooses to marry someone you don’t like? They should be more worried that their 35 year old son doesn’t want to work.

I was on Ari’s side with not putting a one month old baby in the middle of a huge crowd. Maybe at the back of the crowd but not pushing and shoving to get to the front. She does seem very anxious but I think she is trying to fit in.

I don't think I've ever seen anybody worse on this show than Sumit's mother.

I HATE, HATE, HATE people who use emotional blackmail:  "Marry her and I'll kill myself?"  Seriously.  What an awful, horrible human being.  I'm sorry but that's no mother.  She'd commit suicide?  Really?  That bitch is too evil to even think to kill herself.  No fucking way lady.  Jenny, go back to America and leave that whipped mama's boy alone.  Talk about "I Love A Mama's Boy" type shit.

Yazan and Brittany need to break up, so Brittany can twerk her heart out in Miami.

I think Ari's mother is a very anxious person and she's pushed her anxiety onto Ari.  I hope she doesn't push her anxiety onto Avi.  That ceremony was a lot but Avi wasn't crying or upset at all, Ari was the one who was upset.

Deavan:  You wanted a BIG princess wedding, spend all that money and now you leave?  Maybe you'll find your hairline in America, you spoiled, spoiled brat.  Goodnight!

Oh Kenny with the Brokeback Mountain reference.

So Brittany, Deavon, and Cheese stick went back to the U.S.      So hopefully that was the last we'll see of them.    I bet Ari's touching engagement ring/lemon is the last Ethiopia will see of her, so only Kenny and Armando have a happy ending.

Jenny and Sumit are rotten, and his parents saying the Indian equivalent of over our dead bodies sounds like my relatives (all of them survived the event they were getting dramatic about, and are quite old now).   My guess is that was more marry Jenny, and you're dead to us.      Why do I have the feeling that J & S will be back?    And I hope the cows enjoyed the picnic.   I also hope J & S left that field knee deep in cow pies.

But, if Bini had told Ari to stand on the sidelines while he went to get the holy water, Ari would have been pissed that Bini left her standing on the sidelines with the baby.  You can't win with her.  She's SOOOOO anxious, I really think she needs to seek therapy before her anxiety starts to ooze out of her an onto Avi.

She reminds me of two people: one would be my ex-wife, who would threaten to leave me any time we had a disagreement. Sample dialogue:

Me: "Honey, could you not yell at me in public about my snoring? It's embarrassing."

Her (in a rehearsed "hurt" voice): "Oh. Well, maybe it's time to make sure you're NEVER embarrassed by me EVER AGAIN!"

She was pretty surprised when I finally got up the courage to take her up on her offer and say I wanted out of the marriage. She later admitted that she'd never meant any of it. Too late. Meanwhile, my second wife and I don't have those kinds of arguments.

The other person Sumit's mom reminded me of was a past My 600-lb Life participant who wanted her brother to quit his job in New Orleans and move to Houston with her to wetnurse her whilst she spent a year trying to lose weight in Dr. Now's program. When he pointed out that he would literally be abandoning his wife and kids, leaving them destitute in the process, she replied that if he didn't do this, she would die and it would be all his fault. I'd have kicked her out my home for pulling that crap, and if Sumit had any balls whatsoever, his reply to his mom's threat to commit Seppuku (New Dehli-style) should have been a poker-faced "Does this mean your jewelry will be up for grabs?"

Brittany’s plan to bring Yazam to the US was, (even if she really planned to sponsor him) I am sure, curtailed by Covid which was becoming a thing when she had to hurriedly leave the country before the Travel lockdown....that would be in March.   Considering how things have gone, they have likely not seen each other since and, hope, Yazam has come out of his thrall and found a nice local girl to marry.

eta a nice non local girl would be fine too as long as she loved him and he loved her, but after Brittany left, the world went into lockdown, so local girls were the only option for the last 8 months.

Meethinks that Sharp decided to not help her spin her yarn of lies.

They skipped the one other scene that they showed in commercials where Deavan tries her hand at modelling in S.Korea with a jealous Jihoon looking on as she is posing with some other dude.  Me thinks that Sharp did a major retooling of their segment during the month long break.

Why you ask?  Because Sumit is a major scammer and Jenny is a big fat liar liar pants on fire.  Her recall of events (ie. you were my friend when I came over and stayed at your home and my daughter married someone I didn't like and I accepted it) are twisted.  Of course Mom Summit liked you when you came as she was told you were just a facebook friend looking to explore India.  Not to pop her son's cherry and go behind their backs about it.  As for her daughter, I remember either Jenny saying something or reading somewhere online how she didn't accept her daughter's relationship and how it took her years to accept the fact she is a lesbian.  Not the same thing at all you bitch. Hmmmm... compared to Brittney can you blame anyone for "sticking to their own kind??" LOL

If Sharp just gave us 1 hour of straight Jenny/Summit/Summit's parents conversation I would have been satisfied.  I don't care about Areola, Brit, Devan and the rest of them.  Kenny and Armando were super cute but most of their storyline was in the damn car.  Hannah was adorable but they just made up storylines to keep it going.  I knew they were going to get the marriage license. The lackluster season has finally ended.

Jenny and Sumit: You go, girl. You got your promise ring. Maybe watch Beauty and the Beast for the great line from Gaston about men making promises they don't intend to keep. After all these years, all the lies on both sides, you got a cheap promise ring. Which means nothing. And a MacArthur Farm type song about having a picnic and leaving it out in the rain. Cut the loss and go back to the US. Sure, Sumit's mother will go through with killing herself if Sumit marries you. She won't. She'd rather rain down hate upon you  Both of you can move to a different town with no Sumit relatives, get married, and live your lives. Maybe you should talk with Summi about his mom's emotional blackmail and to grow a pair and stand up to her. She played him like a fiddle. Family honour will always mean more to him than you.

Deaven and Jihoon: Made comments about the wedding upthread. So it all came crashing down after the big fancy 45 minute wedding. Covid, or whatever. Fighting, arguing, whatever. You probably were working on the exit plan after Covid came along. Except for Taeyang, you are not suited to each other. Feel sorry for Jihoon, who may never see his kid again, unless he can afford visits to the US and has some good custody sharing arrangement.

Ari and Bini: Two people who really don't know each other, maybe just tolerate each other, not sure they actually love each other, but had a fling and now a kid. Ari's parents are not happy with her living arrangements, but hey, she chose to do this and she has to make the best of it and learn from it. I'm not sure I would want to go to any crowded festival with a one month or so old baby. The heat, the number of people, etc. Like being at a music festival. Maybe just go for an hour or two. And then Bini had to propose, after yet another argument. This is what you folks both get.

Brittany and Yazan: No idea if they have any contact with each other. Maybe the Covid separation is for the best. Both have time to think about what they want and if they can make any relationship work. The translator is helpful and objective but both of them are in very different places. I don't know if Brittany genuinely loves Yazan or he is an exotic treat for her. They don't seem to talk about building a life together.

Kenny and Armando: I do wish Kenny was maybe 10 years younger. There is a slight maturity difference in that Kenny now has grandchildren. I do hope they work out since they seem to be the most genuine castmembers. They are both adults, they act mostly like adults and both seem to love Hannah to pieces.

Surely none of these cast members are returning in a future season? I don’t care about any of them. And that sudden declaration of love and weird marriage proposal complete with banner could not have been more staged. 🙄🙄
I can only care about the various offspring and hope they didn’t inherit their parents’ scatty brains.

Man, all variations of this show. Combination of Where's Waldo, Who's On First, Now you See It - Now You Don't.

Watching this is becoming to much work. Between the disappearing "previews" and the NEW episodes that are only new because they add a few NEW seconds of an hour/two hour episode.

Is this crappy editing due to the sh*t  known as 2020, or is Sharp/TLC running on its last legs.

Jenny's all, "I came here under false pretenses, lied to you about my intentions, sponged off you for months, and sneaked around with your son under your own roof all the way pretending to be your friend. I have no idea WHY you don't like me..."

Since Covid's caused half my hair to fall out and I already have a 5-head (as seen in avatar) I hate to pick on people with similar domes. Since Deaven's a tool, though, I'll make an exception. Her hairline seems to dislike her as much as the rest of us because it's already halfway off her head.

I don't even care that Kenny's a crybaby. I'll put up with his telenovela theatrics as long as I can keep seeing sweet little Hannah look excited at the thought of seeing her two dads marry.

Ari needs to go home. Bini needs to stop knocking foreign women up if he wants to actually be a part of his child's life.

Holy, Family Sumit really brought the drama! Jenny is so dumb. She thinks that just because Mother Sumit was nice to her during her FOUR MONTH stay that she should be ecstatic about her son marrying a 60 year old?! Maybe she’s a little angry about you banging her son while you were a guest in her home? I can’t believe how calmly everyone sat around and discussed Mothet Sumit’s suicide plans. Like how Yazan  calmly explained about his father’s plan to kill him.

How frickin cute is Hannah?! She seemed genuinely excited about having two dads. I’m very happy for Kenny and Armando. Their segments are boring but in a good way. They both seem to have a good sense of humor.

I know I’m the odd man out but I’ve always felt a lot of sympathy for Ari, probably because I just can’t even imagine the difficulty of raising a child in Ethiopia, away from family and everything you’re used to. It’s hard enough for me raising kids with all the conveniences and luxuries and first world privileges. I felt anxious seeing that crushing wall of people in the midday heat too. And Bini saying it’s about her evil spirit being afraid...ugh, their misunderstandings and poor communication give me so much second hand anxiety. Birth control is so cheap and there are so many semi-permanent options available. If you want to travel the world and bang every dreadlocked ass bongo playing dancer, you can with no consequences if you USE BIRTH CONTROL. I would not be able to raise a child in Ethiopia. I would not be able to handle goats having their throats slit on my front door. I would not want to attend festivals where people jostle for holy water. I would not want a partner who has such different views on parenting and religion. But I would’ve used some god damned birth control

Deavan’s dad seems like a lot of fun. He seems amicable and pleasant. Why is he with Elicia? Deavan’s wedding day is starting to feel “rill” you guys! I actually think she looked quite nice in her dress. The applause was so tepid despite the MC trying to amp everyone up. It looked awkward as fuck and I low key love that it wasn’t her dream. She’s going to solve her marriage by leaving for a month because they have “so much differences”. Everything about her is annoying.

Something about the line I bolded bugs me.  It's like saying, "stick to your own kind."  😝

Sorry, that wasn’t the intent.   a nice non local girl would be good too...just someone who actually loves him and vice versa.   However, since Brittany left, the world has been in lockdown, so a local girl has really been the only option for the last 8 months.
