Episode Discussion II: The TFGH

Ava did me a massive favor. I hated Connie and she wasn't Kate to me so 🤷‍♀️

Is there a budget reason behind doing these super long days because they’ve been doing a lot of them since the show came back from the Covid shutdown.  I understand them when there’s a big event but I don’t see the purpose behind this one along with most of the ones we’ve seen recently.
 

Nothing interesting is happening with Jason and Carly’s wedding to necessitate a 2 week lead up to it and it just throws me off when you have scenes like Joss stopping by the MC to talk to Spencer when she should be getting ready. The only big scenes right now are in Nixon Falls but those could have just as easily taken place over several days. 
 

It’s minor but it annoys me because I get distracted thinking about everything a certain character has done in a single day when they stretch them out this way.

I don't think there's a budget reason. I think the writers believe shoving all of this into one day builds suspense, but as you wrote, all of this could have easily taken place over several days. The standard timeline on the show is often wonky the way it is. How many times have we wondered exactly where in the day it is, given the previous scene showed people at breakfast and suddenly it's after-work drinks at the MetroCourt?

or the flirty scenes of Dante and Sam. They are taking any build up or suspense that there may be in this stupid storyline. No wonder we feel like ff.

Non Wedding Stuff

Brit is like why are you all dolled up. and then she forgot today was the wedding. Brit be thankful. The "guy" is an ass. Jason isn't worth it. Maxie's dress is ugly. Britt is surprised that that she's taking Austin. Brit is still worried about Lisel. Poor Britt. 

Terry and "Biz". Meh.  Maxie is like take Britt Drinking. Liz is like guh why. Maxie is like get over it. Liz is like she's your co-chief, you are my friend, whatever you wanna do. Liz screwed up something, so Britt says maybe she can help. They are going to have pizza and do it. (OH. it was scam. Liz still doesn't happy).
 

I'll be surprised if Drew won't be crippled by the end of this. He keeps being beat up. He's trying to bribe Aussie Guard. 

 

Sam is being a cow, so Harmony has no time for her. Dante and Sam are all "surprise pikachu face" that she's upset. Sam "I screwed up." Me: yeup.  Alexis smoothes things over, so Harmony helps Sam. 
Harmony: these guys are dangerous
Sam: So are we.
Dante: excuse me bitch? face. (lol that cracked me up).
 

Mike was going to smash a window and Jax stops him. They get in get everyone. Mike is all "i love you Nina, don't leave me Nina." and then just sits there, instead of you know. throwing Nina over his shoulder and leaving. Nina is like, "I love you too." Me: are you just gonna stay there and get burned up because that works for me.

Mike gets smashed by a beam! (someone called it). I never understand this. why push her. just .... take a giant step forward with Nina and you're not hurt. Now Mike is burning. (don't tease me show).

The Wedding
 

Jason and Michael stuff.... so i am clearly going to be annoyed lol. Here we go. "This is what I wanted as a Kid. I mean I could never say it because the i wouldn't have sonny and i love my dad." 
Jason: "well you are the first significant thing our Carly and I had together you are the only baby i could raise as an infant."
me: because you STOLE HIM FROM AJ YOU ... bad word bad word bad word 

Jason: blowing smoke up Michael's ass. Because of him, that's how Jason/Carly loved each other. It was a joy/privilege raising you for that year..(that sound you hear is my head exploding).

More Jason and Carly smoke blowing via Spinelli. 

Spinelli is basically saying Ellie isn't like carly because Carly accepts Jason for who he is. (me: Ellie is smart to get away from these dumbos)

Carly and Joss.. whatever. more "this is awesome. we can handle anything because jason and i are awesome"   Now Joss is like "I wanted to give you something that checked all the "Something" boxes." but it's bull  and crap."

Carly's dress - Tim Gunn would not approve. (actually the front of Joss's dress is gross too. big fails) 

Ned is all "oo bodyguards." Olivia "Well it's not a Corinthos wedding with out them. At least the kids aren't here. Ned wants to check on Leo and Olivia is like why? There is BLQ and 2 Nannies. (geeze)

Ned is like. "Austin thinks Leo should a specialist." 
Olivia: "For what?"
Ned: "to communicate"
Olivia: "my son communicates just fine. I understand him fine."
Olivia doesn't want to really deal with this. (so now we know how this storyline is going to go, Olivia is gonna be annoying). Also. Today the Quatermaines are her family. Shut up, Olivia.

Olivia is now a snot to Austin. Olivia thinks he's using Leo to get ahead. Austin is like you win either way. Leo gets a right diagnosis, or he's fine.   (which makes sense). Olivia is giving RSBF and doesn't want to hear it.  Shut up Olivia. (also didn't Ned adopt Leo? so it's not just "Your Kid.").

Today's Journey: really sucky. 
(the Drew stuff was nice, so was some of the hospital) but I'll admit it. the Jason/Michael stuff annoyed the hell out of me so.. (and the tease of Sonny burning alive is mean because he won't so).

I know fire rescue scenes on SOAPs are generally bad but that was the most unurgent rescue I have ever see.  Firstly with all the time Peter took twirly his mustache getting it set up + all the time Smike and Jax took, Anna and Valentine should have been there!!

Maxie's dress was truly horrid, no wonder she hid behind the hospital desk for so long. Carly looked better in bathrobe. I liked Joss's dress and thought she looked very nice. I think I turned the channel and didn't see what the gift was. I admit I did do a spit take when Joss said Cam proposed......... they do the chicken dance. That was actually a good line.

Maybe a prev poster got it right. Smike + head smack = Sonny.

Well, at least there is a parade of bad fashion today. Starting with Maxie. Ugh.

Michael's little talk with Jason today might be the most egregious case of Jarly propping we've seen thus far. "I always wanted you and mom together," get the fuck outta here. Michael grew up worshipping Sonny, there's no way he'd root for Jason to be with Carly over Sonny. He could have just said he was happy for Jason without hammering us yet again with how they're meant to be.

Poor Maxie's dress made her look like the mother of the bride. Why do they cloak her in such ugly, matronly attire? I think she and Austin kind of have a nice rapport, though holy hell, anything's nicer than Olivia's instant, unbridled hostility. Tone it down, lady. He's talking to you in a professional capacity and he wants to help.

Mike and Nina exchanging "I love yous" instead of hustling for the exit while a freakin' FIRE rages around them was so eyeroll-worthy. Save it until you're safe and have the breath to spare! But whatever, you know they had to have that moment because after that smack to the head, Mike's surely going to die in that fire and Sonny will rise from the ashes. And after the long hard slog that was the Nixon Falls storyline, I'm more than ready.

Why is it that when any character is misused and badly casted is to kill them off. The favor should have been is to bring Meghan Ward back into the role and forget the split personality bullshit. Emily Q ended up being annoying as f, but that could corrected with a recast and characterization back to original recipe. Ava is a mess of a character, and you can't redeem yourself of killing innocent people. 

I am sick of characters (especially characters that had initial good feedback) and actors paying for the shitty decisions of FV. 

Then I don't feel bad about the hatchet job that they did to Anna Devane.

I really need GH wardrobe to understand that you do NOT have to be a Size 0-4 to look fashionable. There is plenty of fashionable, cute clothing and formal dresses out there for women over a Size 4!! I felt so bad for KSt in that monstrosity of a dress. No wonder she hid behind the desk for as long as she could. I'm not a fashionista but I could dress KSt better than they did. I'm reminded of the time they put KMc in another monstrosity of a dress that was clearly too small. I felt bad for her too. She had her hands in her lap trying to cover herself up. GH needs to do better! 

I know it's a soap trope, but the dragging out of this Sonny stuff is killing me. Why did they have Sonny talking to Nina instead of picking her up and carrying her out of there?! He's a man! I know he could do it. Jax had untied and walked Phyllis out while Sonny was still calling Nina's name! That was lame . . . like bad horror movie lame. And then, of course, something knocks him out. I'm about done w/this dragged out for no reason story! It's not building suspense (for me at least); it's just dumb!

As a family lawyer, I can say I've run into my fair share of Olivias - parents who refuse to believe anything could possibly be wrong w/their child! I just rolled my eyes at her reaction. I liked the way Austin handled it though, and I liked the way he broke it to Ned a week or so ago. When it comes to autism or any type of issue w/a child, some parents can be super sensitive and will reject any talk of anything being "wrong" w/their child. 

Automatic mute for Carly and her brat and for Jason and his minions. 

I think that was it for today!  

ETA: I'm still liking CM's Drew. I cannot wait until he escapes. 

I may be in the minority, but I want to see Britt make some other friends, esp. since Brad is in prison so I hope to see her and Terri become real friends. 

It's sad that Britt cares about Jason. He's a complete waste of time. 

Sante - I'm very indifferent to them. I didn't pay much attn to those scenes.

I was pleasantly surprised that it was Jax on the lead at fire rescue and not Sonny. I thought that it would have been mor efficient for Jax to just pick up Phyllis , chair and all, but then Sonny couldn'tdo that with Ninam

Joss' dress was for a woman in her 30s. Carly's dress looked like she was going to the Met ball. "The tradition is to ward off the Evil Eye." And Carly herself is the evil .

Dante lied, Harmony not helping was entirely Sam's fault.

It was kind of sweet of Terry to fake a problem to distract Britt and for Liz to help. And Britt knew and appreciated it.

Not that I care, and doubt anything will happen to CUJO, but if Mooby decides he wants Nina (and will she be willing to become a mob moll?), no way he won't want his bidnez back, because he's Mooby. The other Families will still want to kill her cuz she ain't Mooby's wife no mo' and could still spill to the Feds about what  she all of a sudden she says she knows. So, for the sake of "FAMILY" Jaysus will sacrifice is 🤢wuv🤢 and same for Mooby. SheBeast is the mutter of some of his living children, after all.

Dear writers,

Many of us have been watching this show for an absurd amount of years.  We remember when Liz was in high school.  We knew who her friends were. They were a huge part of the show (and my personal teen years).  Please stop with all the talk about all the raves to which “Biz” dragged Teri.  Let them have been acquaintances now adult friends.  It’s unnecessary, but then again so are so many things lately.

In other news, I don’t like the harassment of Harmony.  She’s at work, people.  I wouldn’t exactly be happy about it either but Alexis doesn’t get to judge being in a prison with Ryan because guess what, she’s also in prison.  Harmony has done her time and is trying to move on.  They don’t need to like her, but what else do they want from her?

Maxie’s dress was atrocious.  Just silly bad.  I am liking Austin and all his little quips.

I'm positive they did this because they thought it would make Teri's introduction as trans smoother. I'm fine with them having been childhood friends, but as always, the show really forces the connection. The brat wanted to BE Sonny when he was a kid, so the writers can fuck right off with this rewrite.  Honestly, I hope Sonny comes back, remembers who he is, but is still lukewarm on the lot of them because that will make them all miserable.  And if Sonny chooses Nina, there's no way Carly's head won't explode, so that's a W in my books.

Honestly, I'm glad the Tan-O is burning down. The place reminded me of a saloon in the wild wild west. I was just waiting for them to start serving sarsaparilla. Also, the place stands for nothing good.

I did not care for anything wedding related. This is Carly's billionth wedding. And yes, we get it writers, Jarly is a destiny couple, star-crossed lovers who have finally uncrossed. Please, let's stop trotting out characters to prop the idea. And STFU, Michael, and die.

Olivia is extremely defensive. I'm not a mother, but if a doctor told me that I should see a specialist for my child, I'd press him for more information instead of going hostile. 

I didn't hate Maxie's dress. I just don't think it was a good choice for her body type. Black at a wedding is kind of meh. And they could have done a little more with her hair.

It's not as if it ever had customers. And with no Tan-O, there's no reason for anyone to stay in Nixon Falls. If, as we suspect, Mike gets his Sonny memories back, this gives him a fairly graceful way to return to Port Charles without leaving Phyllis in the lurch. She'll no doubt tag along because now there's nothing left for her in NF.

Not to mention: Austin made it perfectly clear that Chase could do whatever he wanted with the knowledge that Michael and Willow were a couple. He told numerous people more than once. So Olivia can shut up again with her "manipulating a child for your own benefit" crap.

Same. The fabric was too heavy for her, plus that ruffle that starts at the knee isn't flattering to a shorter woman, which KSt is. Her hair has been pretty bad for a while, which makes me wonder what's going on.

I married into an italian family and this is very true to form.  There will be one of two reactions.  Either they will drop to their knees, wailing and crying that they always knew something bad was going to happen, without actually listening to what the issue is.  Or they will deny, deny, deny and not listen to what the issue is.  Olivia and LiLo's protrayal is dead on for me, and exactly how I expected her to react.  Add to that the Qs distrusting Austin and here we go, though I don't know if she would have listened to Monica in this situation either.  

The good:  Olivia's dress was on point, though just a smidge too tight and not something one would wear to the ceremony, though certainly for the reception (at least in this neck of the woods!)

I loved Drew's little mind games, "Where is Chloe going to go first?  The police station or the US consulate".  

 

The bad: 

-Joss's dress was ugly, the wrong color and the wrong style.  She needed something red, burgundy, navy, that kind of color. 

-Carly's dress was ok.  Thankfully she didn't show up in white, like I fully expected her to.  My 13 yr old asked why she wasn't in white and I reminded her that this is Carly's 890  wedding!!

-Maxie's dress was gawd awful and her hair looked like garbage.  I get that KSt just had head surgery but they couldn't get her a wig that didn't look like she hadn't washed her hair in 3 weeks.? 

 

The Stupid:

Apparently Sonny didn't learn his lesson with Connie's death, when he spent 20 minutes talking to her while she bled out on the floor, followed by him not remembering how to dial 911.  Grab Nina, shut the eff up, and run out the frickin door.  

I also don't understand, he went in the door, calling out their names, couldn't get through the wood on fire, so heads back out and picks up a chair to break the window, that is right beside the door that's already blocked.  What was that going to do??  Good thing Jax was there to point out that there is a back door to get in. 

I wanted Phyllis to tell Jax that Peter had set the fire.

so I read it from here, but i don't know where they read/heard it from. and i said if i was wrong, okay i'm sorry. goodness. I don't usually assume people make stuff up so if they said it, i figure it's true.

I think of the wedding outfits we’ve seen so far, I only liked Olivia’s. Carly’s dress only looked ok from the waist up though I think she should have worn a bra. I like different colored wedding gowns but this one had some weird seams and it’s a bad fabric choice. It looked cheap.

I thought that would have been a given. (I saw the mike/MB version too). i would just assume something like this would require stunties.

The show is making it so obvious that Jason will always be there for Carly’s kids while being a deadbeat to his own. All of these OTT father/child moments with adult Michael and Joss is way too much, especially considering that the latter has a father currently on the canvas. Hell they even recast Donna and established that he’s around her enough to call Jason daddy while he couldn’t even bother to tell his son’s that he’s getting married. Granted I’m not a Jason fan but is anyone supposed to find this appealing?

I think it's very telling  that all this poetic waxing is going on - and we didn't see Jason tell his kids that he was getting married, nor do we see them at the wedding. He asked Michael to be his best man - no mention at all of Danny or Jake doing something for him at the wedding? 

And the thing is  you can't even take solace from this and think oh when Danny/Jake are aged up again, they'll hate Jason, but nope.

We've now seen the wedding dress (not a fan, though I did like Carly's hair), so the odds of this wedding actually happening have dropped. If the audience does not see the dress, the wedding happens. If the audience does see the dress, something goes wrong.

My prediction is that Sonny will remember who he is just as Anna and Valentin arrive. He'll fly back to PC and show up at the wedding just as the minister does his "does anyone here have any just cause..." thing, or at the "you may now kiss the bride".

Isn't that a rather small chapel for what was going to be a big wedding? The reps for the other 4 families are going to take up most of the pews.

I don't think her surgery has anything to do with it. Her hair has been lamely styled for every big occasion for about a year now. Even just pulling it back like Liz's hair would have been better.

Elizabeth came on the show at 15/16. It’s not science fiction that she could have had friends before that. I think calling them raves was probably an exaggeration, but her dragging her to partieS sounds plausible, especially Liz’s parents - from what we know of them - probably weren’t that attentive.

Yeah, Liz was fake acting so they could give Britt a distraction from the wedding.

I thought Sam’s line was sort of lame, but him dragging her to the yacht doesn’t prove she doesn’t have some fight in her especially since she was the one killed him on said boat.

I think that there are a lot of Jason and Jarly fans who are very happy  with this. No other woman is good enough for Jason and consequently neither are their children .

Oh yeah, her hair has been bad for a long time now. I actually thought her hair and makeup were decent for a change, albeit too casual for the occasion. Now putting her in that dress on the other hand…that was just mean.
