Insurance is probably the furthest thing from Tiffany’s mind. Right ahead of Daniel being happy in SA.  She’ll flit out of the hospital and not give a shit how the bills get paid.

You are very right about this - logical, sane thinking is not on her mind.  This is a woman who married an unemployed felon and got pregnant ASAP so health insurance is not on her radar.

What gets me about Tiffany is that when she talked to the immigration attorney, she really didn't know the full extent of his long criminal record.     She only had the talk with Ronald about the full extent of his criminal actions later, and that's when he said the LSD and Heroin bust was because "he was wearing someone else's jacket".   He has an excuse for everything, and it's not just stealing his mother's fridge, and embezzling from his former employer.  He had a much more extensive record, and Tiffany still married him, and got pregnant the second she could.    I read what others said about the size of the baby on ultrasound, and I bet you're exactly right, that she got pregnant within days of going to South Africa.

Isn’t she self employed as a cosmetologist?

Wouldn’t she have been required by Obamacare to get insurance, especially with a kid already? Unless mommy claims Daniel as a dependent or has guardianship and her health insurance covers him.

She could have paid the penalty especially if the plans in her area are terrible as they have been when politicians have undercut the program or there has been poor enrollment. That's probably not true in Fredericksburg Maryland, but you never know.

Spoiler

She did.  I did some calculations based on other sites saying she had given birth in early April and they had wed in late October in SA.  So, yes, she was about ten days along when they wed, assuming she carried full term.

It is a really good thing school is starting and I will not have so much free time on my hands, lol!!!

Tiffany reeks of low self esteem, hence marrying this guy and getting pregnant pronto. South Africa, while gorgeous, is not really a country that people are immigrating to at the moment, I have met several S Africans who left because of the constant threat of robberies and violence that they faced. One of them was legally blind with a blind cane and said he stood no chance in S Africa.

Did she know she was pregnant this time around ? Funny, I thought she gets her period throughout her pregnancies. 😆

Its sad to me that instead of doing self improvement in her life, if not for herself than for her son. She is probably obese and could have tried losing some weight to at least minimize risk of health problems down the road like diabetes.

I also roll my eyes every time she complains about how she is freaking out because of how dangerous her neighborhood will be, or that her formerly addict fiance was at a casino, blablabla, or that he's got no job. .. No one held a gun to her head and said "marry this idiot!" In fact. She went to VERY great lengths to be with said idiot !

Lately, I've been trying to convince my husband we should move to South Africa as opposed to moving to the States (I've told him its safe if you keep your wits about you) and then a cousin sent me the news this morning...

The Johannesburg CBD (about 45 minutes from where Tiffany and Ronald stay) is burning and being looted

https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/update-31-people-arrested-for-looting-setting-shops-and-cars-alight-in-johannesburg-cbd-20190902

And a little girl was kidnapped in front of her school by 4 men on Monday (this is about 50 minutes from where they stay)

https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/just-in-grade-r-girl-kidnapped-in-front-of-vaal-school-20190902

"Do you know about human trafficking, mah boy?" Ronald really wasn't joking around when he was warning Daniel about the dangers of SA.

When Tiffany pulled her passive-aggressive ploy of forgetting Ronnie's credit cards at home, did anyone else wonder if Ronnie was about two seconds away from clocking her a good one?   I bet Tiffany better lay off the nasty remarks, and trying to control his every move once the cameras are gone.

I wonder if this dolt has any travel health insurance and if so, does she realize that it doesn't cover pregnancy/giving birth? I'm not positive, but I don't think she'd be automatically covered just because she's married to Ronald because she's not an actual citizen of S.A.

Does he actually have a criminal record or has no one ever actually brought charges against him he just keeps on skating by?

I thought there was a scene where Tiffany visited a lawyer who advised her that it would be difficult to bring Ronald over due to his past?

But, Tiffany was vague and didn't have all the details... so I am wondering if she actually has seen his Criminal Background Check?

https://heavy.com/entertainment/2019/07/ronald-american-visa-update-90-day-fiance/

This article speculates he might be able to get a visitors visa (similar to the one Evelyn -of Cory and Evelyn was on)... but I think they'd probably refuse him as he has very few ties to South Africa (no job) and a wife and child in the States. I've known a few South Africans who were denied a visitors visa (they had no criminal record and a job but they lived in Korea) because they wanted to visit their girlfriends/boyfriends in the States and the embassy thought they didn't have enough ties to their home country.

I think the lawyer said that even with the charges it would be difficult to bring him over.  ASAIK Ronald never spent a second in jail because I don't think mom was willing to press charges and Ronald was able to blackmail his employer into not proceeding against him.

As Ronald proudly pointed out, he was able to force his employer to not proceed against him by refusing to pay back money he stole from his employer unless charges were dropped.  What a gem of a guy.

Why can't we let the two of them be SAs problem?  We JUUUUST got rid of Paul, Laura, Devan and Jenny....we were on a roll!

I find it very curious that they would let him in, even if he hasn't been been to jail. Ever since marijuana legalization occurred here in Canada, the odd Canadian has been turned away from the US border simply because they admitted to smoking pot or even taking CBD oil.

A new story about someone being denied entry to the US pops up about once or twice a month here and so far none of the people denied entry have had a criminal record of any kind, they simply admitted to having used marijuana, even if it was a long time ago.

Another frequently asked question from US Customs is, "have you ever been fingerprinted?" That question is asked because it's apparently more encompassing than asking about criminal convictions since most people who were arrested, even if they haven't been convicted, have been fingerprinted.

I felt the lawyer was saying the same thing.....that even with the charges and the arrests he would be an unlikely candidate for admission to the US.

However if TLC is helping him get a visa it may just be a work visa....in which case I'm not sure if the government is more likely to let him in because he theoretically wouldn't be here forever AND he wasn't actually convicted of anything AND he has a job.

I mean the admission of marijuana use is kind of admitting that.you committed a crime, though if it's legal where a person is coming from.  Ronald admitted to nothing (except on national TV but whatever).

The fingerprinting thing is weird, i was fingerprinted for admission to the bar and for my federal job so maybe they probe further if the applicant says they have been fingerprinted.

Yes, my understanding is that being fingerprinted for employment is not an issue, but for anything else, even if you were a potential suspect, or simply arrested/charged with no conviction, you can be turned away at the border. Foreign nationals have no right to enter the US, it's basically a privilege,  so I'm very surprised that they'd allow Ronald entry at all or even grant him a work visa.

I don't get why on earth anyone would admit to smoking pot "back when I was in university, 20 years ago" to a border guard. They can and will deny you entry, so there goes your long-weekend cross-border shopping expedition, lol.

Wouldn't Ronald have to be honest about any arrests on his visa application?

I’m not too sure “honesty” is a concept that Ronald understands.  That applies to many of this show’s participants of course, but Ronald doesn’t appear to have any sort of moral compass at all.

Yeah, I think Ronald thinks more in terms of what he feels he can get away with and the weighs the risk/reward.  Worst case scenario is he is getting sent back to SA....worth the risk for the potential reward of living in the US.

I'm not sure who would hire him to do what, but it sucks that because he wasn't convicted of anything that a potential employer may entrust him with financial information.

I used to work with a lady that was naturalized, her children were all U.S. citizens, and all of her siblings, and their spouses applied to come to the U.S.    However, since they had applied, and were waiting to get in, when the lady's mother was sick, none of the children could come to the U.S..   There is the issue of people coming here temporarily, and never leaving.

There are special visas for entertainers, some of the international Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders had to go back to their home country, get approved, after they were selected for training camp.    It could be TLC sponsored Ronald for that type of visa, since he's on the show.  However, the second they stop filming, he might have to leave between seasons, and if he was booted from the show, or did any criminal activity, he would be gone, never to return.    Tiffany didn't even know about his entire criminal history until the episode where she moved to SA to get married.     We only have his word that he wasn't convicted too.   Al Capone had a shorter rap sheet than Ronald did.

If you think Tiffany is controlling him in SA, wait until she can divorce him, or get him off the show.     You'll really see the true Tiffany come out when or if Ronald gets here.

That story linked about the visa was a rehash of other publicity.    It says K-1 Visa, and that's a fiance visa, and not a quick process.   They claim they're already married, so K-1 wouldn't apply.   Plus, a vacation visa doesn't include a work visa, so unless he has some entertainer visa because of the show, he's not going to be able to work, unless they pay everything to Tiffany.

My guess is if he could have had any type of visa, then he would have been in the U.S. for the baby's birth, and he was still in SA, watching on a video hookup.

I absolutely doubt that Ronald will be admitted to the U.S. even for a visit, or for filming the show.   I think that is Tiffany's hope that if she had the kid in the U.S., that the U.S. government would let him in, but I hope that's a fantasy.

Tiffany and her hospital tour was definitely an eye-opener, especially since she had a person tour from the Captain in charge.

Tiffany is absolutely lying about how pregnant she is.    There is no way that she was that advanced for the ultrasound from the time of the wedding.   I bet she got pregnant the first week Ronald was out of rehab.   She needs to remember that you can only fly up to a certain point in pregnancy, especially a long distance flight like SA to the U.S.

It might be expensive to get health insurance for foreigners in SA, or to finance a private hospital, but it going to cost many thousands to fly back to the U.S., and how does she plan to finance a fancy hospital in the U.S.?

So wait, she met him on a trip and they hung out a few times. Then he keeps in touch via social media for 7 months, then she travels there and gets engaged? Was she pregnant and married after only a handful of meetings with this guy? Her friends told her about his addiction and not him? She drags her son into the mess knowing nothing about the country? I have unloaded on TIffany many many times so no need to rehash, but yes - meeting a guy on vacation, knowing him in person a handful of times, rushing to get pregnant (no one will ever convince me she did not get knocked up the first night there) rushing to wed but the biggie:  Dismissing her son when he said he was uncomfortable there.  I know what it is like to have a parent put someone else above you and man, that was tough to watch.    Her controlling Ronald, trying to fix him, cure him, change him.....ugh.  Tiff, if he had cancer you could not cure that, so why ya trying so hard with THIS?  Oh yeah, you are the "ONE" to do it.  Keep banging your head on that wall, sweetie.

For what it is worth, the minute the lady in the public hospital said I might be giving birth on the floor I would have been: "Bye!"  But then again, I would not have been involved with an unemployed felon/addict 2500 miles from home, involving my 7 year old in it and unemployed myself, plus toss in needing to babysit my hubby.

Tiffany is the worst female, Sumit is the worst male for allowing Jenny to sell everything to move to India, knowing he was married.  But I think Jenny was in on it so I will take that to their thread........

I think a lot of the hatred comes from the fact that she taught her child to call Ronnie the criminal, Dad.     She dragged a kid into this situation, and did nothing to find out what she was volunteering her son to live with.     Remember when R & T were touring apartments, and the first one had electric on the top of the fence, window bars, and told to always park inside, and keep the garage door down and locked.   The Tiffany says it would be her son's room on the first floor, and the realtors said no way would it be safe for the child to stay on the first floor.   Tiffany just ignored that, because it didn't fit her plans.

I hate it when Tiffany says that if her son doesn't like SA, she'll leave.    I bet she'll still go back to SA, unless Ronald dumps her.

Then, she deliberately gets pregnant at the first second she could,  even though there is no money except from TLC coming in, and a possible low paying job at the "Wellness Center" for Ronald, and she can't work there.  Plus, no health insurance, so she's whining about what the government will do for her, and it's not up to her standards.     She's a fool, and she's harming both children.     I bet her ultimate plan is that once she has the baby, that the U.S. government will have to let Ronald in the country.    I hope that's not happening, because of his long criminal record.    We only have his word that he never had a conviction, but my guess is he's lying about that too.

She would not be having a baby in a public hospital in South Africa.

The hospital she visited services the poorest of poor people. These are the hospitals medical students have to work at for 2 years to fulfil their community service requirements.

I grew up working class in South Africa. We had no health insurance. My mother was able to access amazing medical care in SA for her cancer treatment. She was able to make an appointment with doctors and she had a bed with bedding and great nursing staff.

The type of hospital shown in the program was one where people have to line up from about 5am in front of the hospital to see a doctor. The people who go to these hospitals are making less than $800 a month. Tiffany would never be admitted to a public hospital like this... mostly because Ronald and his family wouldn't allow it. Segregation (and racism and classism) is still very real in South Africa.

ETA: I posted before but the price to have a kid in SA at a private hospital would be between $1000-$2500. Tiffany would probably be able to pay for the birth of the baby with her TLC money.

ETA: I think community service is only 1 year. I am getting confused with the Korean military service which is 18 months to 2 years....

They must have really worked at making that hospital camera ready because it didn't look dirty to me, it didn't look like a place with blood and fluids all over the floor, the staff I saw who were tending to patients had protective clothing on (scrubs and head covering), the bedside machines looked fairly modern and the woman giving the tour seemed competent (although she wanted to scare them away).

I can't say but saying that people give birth on the floor seemed like something that didn't happen that often but may have been a line used to scare away certain people who looked like they could afford better.

It definately didn't look ideal, lack of privacy, can't have a s/o in the room, probably not as clean and pristine as a Cedars Sinai or the UCLA center in Santa Monica and there isn't a team of doctors available at your beck and call.  But you know who gets that stuff?  People with money and insurance in the US (and maybe the people of Finland?) It's not fair, but there it is.

When you're poor and you haven't thought about medical insurance and you get pregnant just as soon as you land in another country with a healthcare system you know nothing about, you get what you get.

And no, Tiffany and Ronald's piss poor choices don't mean that bank of Ronald's mom or someone else's refrigerator gets hit up to pay for a private birth.

Full disclosure: I've stopped watching The Other Way because they are filming in two countries I've lived in (SA and SK) and I can't watch production pervert the truth.

But I digress, I agree with you. SA is an amazing country even if you have a little bit of money. The woman was probably trying to scare Tiffany away because she thought they'd film the birth there for ratings and she probably wanted to discourage her as much as possible. But, they probably made an appointment with the hospital to show it off for an American TV show, so they showed off the hospital in its best light. No way a public hospital where people give birth on the floor because they are so overworked is going to allow a camera crew in without prepping...

(I'm saying two things but... public hospitals in SA also have more upmarket wings... the hospital where Chris Barnard performed the first heart transplant, is a museum, a university hospital and has a public center where people line up from 5am).

Mother Ronald probably financed part of their wedding and financed Ronald's "wellness center" stay. I think she would pony up the cash for the birth of her grandchild.

I'm sure production found the weirdest poorest hospital they could for "drama" to film at.  SA surely has great safe hospitals that rival the US, and it's probably tons cheaper to have a baby there vs the US with insurance.  I'm hoping that they broke up and she took her broke pregnant self back to the US for good b/c Ronald probably can not come here AT ALL.  That's one way to keep him out of her life and the baby's life.

Are you suggesting....and I know this is a shocker.....that TLC was fooling us???  You mean they would stage a scene???  What a blow!

I wanted to edit this to add:  I watched Episode 2 again to clear up a Jenny/Sumit issue and noticed something new in the scene where Tiff takes her sister and mom out for wine and to drop the news that Ronald is a great guy but.....also a recovering FELON.  First:  Her top was a non cold shoulder top!  When Tiff is talking, her wine stays at about the same level while Mom's is almost empty.  Yeah, if you were my daughter I would be handing over the keys and buying the bottle at this point.  Lastly, and we all know why this next exchange ZESTS me:  "He has been through this horrible addiction.....and it really hurt me."  There - right there - it is ALL ABOUT HER.  Not:  "He had been through this terrible ordeal and all I want is him to be healthy and okay.  I hope I can support him!!"  Nope - it is all about HER.

She could have paid the penalty especially if the plans in her area are terrible as they have been when politicians have undercut the program or there has been poor enrollment. That's probably not true in Fredericksburg Maryland, but you never know.

Given that she was pregnant and unemployed, she probably qualified for Medicaid.

Thanks for explaining. I definitely got all of the racism and elitism coming off of Ronald. If you've ever seen a US hospital where a state government or the feds had to close or send into receivership, those are bad bad and honestly so much worse than the hospital we saw in South Africa.

Ronald stands a very good chance of getting his visa and green card. He’s not from a “shithole” country as defined by the current administration and he’s white with a “cute’ accent, having a white baby. That’s considered a desirable immigrant. Not even trying to be political, just factual here. They are trying to get more Caucasian immigrants and if he is actually being sponsored by TLC? it’s a done deal.
