S13.E09: A Peace Treaty, a Blind Date, and a Divorce No One Understands

I guess I'm in the minority on Gina for this one.  Do I find her somewhat annoying, at times -- YES.

But I agree with her on calling out Shannon on the hypocrisy.  Sure, it's nice for Shannon to defend her friend Kelly in the wake of Kelly acting horrible to her.  And vice-versa.  We've seen this in every single Housewives show where previous frenemies are now "friends" and they defend the other to the core now that they've "made up" (perhaps, so as not to stir up their drama from the past).

But yeah ... Shannon ABSOLUTELY knows that Kelly's behavior was abhorrent and she didn't do ANYTHING about it.  2 years ago, Shannon would've been on Emily/Shane's side and called-out Kelly for acting like a LUNATIC.

Shannon did not diffuse anything.  She may have had good intentions.  But she KNOWS how Kelly is ... and Gina knows that, too.  Gina was basically saying: Come on, b*tch, you can't tell me that you couldn't have tried to diffuse the "crazy".

As for Emily.  I kinda like her.  She's boring.  But she also seems to have a good head on her shoulders.  She seems real, and a good person.  I also find her VERY pretty in some scenes/angles, and then not so much in others.  I like looking at people like that, lol.

And that is EXACTLY what Tamra preaches all day every day. "Stand by your man.." Thats Tamra's mantra. So it's ok for Tamra to defend her man but if any of the other women do that it's up for criticism and judgement. Fuck off Tamra (and Eddie the biggest pussy house husband EVER).

TOTALLY. If you don’t stand up to your husband because Tamra wants you to, then he’s ‘controlling’. Fuck off, Tamra!

After the fight, Shane tells Emily to chill out for a minute on Tamra's sofa

Emily: What if someone said that about me?

Shane: I'd take you out of the situation and leave.

I think Shane would back out of the room like this try to diffuse the situation and gently escort Emily to the exit

Geeze, I’m almost afraid to say I live on Long Island.  Gina is talking like a tough guy.  She hardly knows these girls and already she’s starting up with Shannon, who by the way, was sitting there quiet and like a lady.   Gina better cool it ..she’s becoming unlikeable and scary.

For a minute I thought Gina was channeling Teresa Guidice.

last night was my final episode.  I’m not going to help that putrid pig Icki line her pockets anymore.  Ugly inside and out.  It’s obvious from the cast not throwing her a birthday party, and the shitastic one she actually got at a chain Mexican restaurant that no one actually likes her.  Enough of this shit.

Agreed. I popped back here to see if anything was happening that may interest me but apparently not. Vicki is still around. Shannon went on a date. Whatever. I'm out.

Back to Dallas housewives and I think I will check out Below Deck.

I had two cats.  So easy.  Took the doody out every day, and every Friday and Tuesday, emptied the whole liter box and put in Clorox and detergent and swished it around with some water, emptied in bowl, wiped it dry and put in new liter.  Never smelled anything EVER.  Cats like clean liter boxes.   Some people just empty the liter and don’t wash out the box.  Just sayin.

Cat people on here...chill out. Shannon isn't a cat person that's all. Some people are cat people and some people are dog people. Personally, I'm allergic to cats so I've never been too cozy with them. I've always had dogs and that's my preference mostly due to my allergy to cat dander...I have no problem with people who own cats but I do find owning more than 5 or 6 cats to be on the hoarding side especially if someone lives in a smaller home or apartment. I have no idea what Shannon considers "a lot of cats" that this guy has...BTW, this guy looked very familiar. I think he was on Patti Stanger's Millionaire Matchmaker show on WE TV. He was one of the single guys that was interviewed by her and her staff for a date with one her female clients.

Actually, Gina had those kind of nails last night. Kelly is a hot mess. She has so much anger and rage it's kind of scary. She goes from zero to ten in a nano second. Her fight style resembles that of Cardi B vs. Nicki Minaj. She needs therapy STAT!

I guess I am easy to please, because although I wouldn't say this season is on fire, it is damn sure a mighty improvement on S12. I like the new additions.

Shannon walking into that restaurant with a stiletto on one foot and a boot on the other reminded me of Homer pretending to be handicapped to justify parking in 3 Handicap spots.

giphy.gif

She seemed to be literally dragging on foot behind. LOL!

Gina looked so pretty in her scenes discussing her divorce with Emily and her mom. Minimal makeup should be her look! She looks a right dragalicious mess in her THs. But dear heavens her voice, especially in her scenes with Emily nearly had my ears bleeding. The worst of it isn't even the overuse of the word "like" but her rising intonation at the end of every sentence like it is a question. Drives me positively mad!  I interact with Long Islanders on the daily and I have never heard such awful valley girl speech.

I understand what Gina was saying and I don't mind that she said something to Shannon about it. Really it is the nature of the beast. I think in most instances outside reality tv, one wouldn't coach a friend who one's knows to be volatile and a bit of a wild card to confront someone at a party about a sensitive topic like the spouse they are divorcing dating another. However, making scenes at party's is a HW staple and Shannon might've been docked a day's pay for telling Kelly not to do it.

I thought Vicki's b-day party was sweet and she acted pretty gracious and appreciative - for Vicki!

I hate to body shame but damn is Shane bad-bodied! Seriously, what else is he supposed to do if someone talks shit about his wife if he has negative muscle tone?

So far from what I have seen of Tamra's house, I mostly like it but that banquette in the middle of her kitchen is throwing me off. I want to like it but I just don't.

Shannon is super sensitive and emotional herself. I can understand her not wanting that in a man. I'm the same way. Big time crier. Get my feelings hurt easily. Some of them gave the stink eye when the word 'cat' was uttered.   With a little bit of effort, a litterbox can be kept tidy.  I don't get how people don't mind puppy pads all over the house, but they think that having a cat and a litterbox is the most offensive thing they've ever heard of.   Go figure.   (FWIW to my fellow cat lovers, I have the Breeze litter system and it really is a breeze!)

What was telling was Shannon's discomfort in being with a "sensitive" man.  I hope she doesn't make a mistake and find another David in her future.  She deserves better than him.

RIGHT??!!  I will take my two clean litterboxes over puppy pads any day (off to google Breeze).  Stayed with someone who used puppy pads for her dog because she never wanted to take her outside in the snow to do her business and geezus her house stank.  This was WITH changing them out several times a day.  Cats are pretty clean creatures and while I love all animals, I am a cat person all the way.  Dogs are too much like having kids in the amount of work they take (before I piss off another parent, I don't mean this as a slight to y'all, I just like how easy my kitties are).  Once I retire I may get a dog because I do really like them.

Shannon lost some points with me in her cat comment.  I also didn't like her side eyeing her dates comment about crying.  Lady, you cry all the damn time.  It's ok if others do as well.  Did it look to anyone else that Steve's family really wasn't excited about the prospect of him marrying Vicki?  Also, that party was no surprise to her.  Maybe Billy was a surprise but she knew that party was happening.  An actress she is not.  Emily and Gina still bug me.

Fellow Brooklyn/Long Islander here and certain things Gina says and her pronunciation of certain words remind me of myself.  What we don’t do here is speak with our voices going up at the end of a sentence.  That might be a valley girl thing.  When she starts speaking aggressively she also tilts her head and twists her mouth.  I think she saw too many tough guy NY movies.  Emily’s husband seems whimpy with people, yet a little controlling with her.  When he told her to sit down twice and relax, the way they looked at each other makes me feel like he meant sit down now!  He tried to soften it up for the camera but that was my feeling on it.  Also to suggest her not being friends with these housewives, she has no choice you idiot, she signed up for this and she has to hang out with them until filming is done.  Side Note:  My husband better have my back if someone is trash talking me.  I’m not saying fight them, but stick up for me.

I hear this weird way of speaking so much - even sometimes by television news reporters.  It's grating on the nerves, for sure.  Gina was particularly cringe-worthy last night. Gina, please try making a statement without it sounding like a QUESTION!!!!  Do people that speak like that think it sounds cute? They actually sound childish, insecure, and annoying.  And it's usually females.  Why?

She's a dummy. She got married because all the cool kids were doing it. Then she had kids because all the cool kids were doing it. What the hell? So it's no surprise she talks like a Kardashian.

I work with women whom I call The Kardashians. They seem to think that their every utterance is a pearl of wisdom. And they talk all damn day. Headphones: a blessing. I just tune them right out.

Ghoulina, I am right there with you.  I am the same way and though I appreciate men who can get emotional, I need to be with  a different type to keep me sane.  Mind you, not someone who is the polar opposite who will trounce on your emotions which can be too much but someone in between, you know, someone just right.  Common sense is a must.

I am so tired of all the newbies trying to "earn their bones" by trying to get a rise out of Shannon.  Come on newbies,  if that's all you got, you don't belong on this show.  Please be original.  Baiting Shannon is so tiresome to this viewer.

I'm not sure what exactly Shannon was supposed to do. She knows Kelly; and Kelly can't be stopped when she's got a bee in her bonnet. I think Shannon did the best she could. Short of shooting her with a tranquilizer dart and dragging her out of there, I'm not sure what else she should have done.

Exactly. There was no way Kelly wasn’t going to confront Steve not just because she is Kelly but because that is what the producers expect.

Gina doesn’t know what the word judgement means. She does in fact make these judgements, which fine we all do, then when people don’t agree with her she is like it’s just my opinion when she came at swinging.

I don’t have an issue with men crying, I do have an issue with someone regardless of gender mentioning that they cried for a year over their ex in the first hour of meeting me. Even Shannon with her lack of recent dating experiences didn’t open with that.

On the shoe thing with Shannon - that was pretty stupid. It's a sure way to ruin shoes. Wear both and the shoe on the swollen foot gets warped. Wear one using the scooter and the one you're using to pedal is taking more of your weight and the tread won't be even. When she went to meet her date - the way she walked was just not cute.

  • Love 12

The shoe thing to me seemed part of Shannon being new to the dating world. She thought she was supposed to look “sexy”, so she decided the shoes were necessary instead of a stupid choice that was optional.  I guess if you’re going to be that awkward on a date it’s good to get it out of the way with a man you don’t see any potential with, but I hope she can unclench on future dates and try to be comfortable in her presentation instead of propping herself up on “sexy”, inefficient  cliches.

Did anyone else notice Emily's "wait, he doesn't love me at all" face when Shane told her that if he didn't care, why should she?  It seemed like her thought train was just now grasping that if somebody 'comes for' her, he's not going to be in her corner.

You know, I saw it has him saying why let this petty shit into their lives. You only care about people who mean something to you and these other ladies mean nothing. He is saying I don't care what she called me, so why let it affect you? I actually think that is the most reasonable thing anyone on this damn show has ever said. As for Kelly, she is A1 crazy. She goes low, then expects what she said to be forgotten. How 'bout not saying that vile crap in the first place Kel?

Shannon, Vicki and Tamra all stayed in relationships for far too long trying to make it work but it only resulted in both sides becoming bitter and/or resentful toward the other. It made their separations that much more difficult because they weren't willing to accept the demise of their relationships much earlier on. I'm surprised that with their experience, Vicki and Shannon would be so quick to wish Gina fight harder for her marriage. While it's possible that maybe the divorce was more one person's idea than the other, I do think Gina's explanation is fair - she doesn't want to try to the point of no return and in the end, she ends up with a fucked up relationship with a man that she once loved and respected and worse, a fucked up relationship with a man who is the father to her children. If this is what will make them better parents by giving their children a healthier upbringing in the long term, then by all means. They are forever connected and if they both realize they made a mistake, there's no law that says they aren't allowed to get married again.

I'm chill, but it's that look the ladies gave (stink eye), as if a man having cats made him a freak of nature.  I like both dogs and cats, but as of now, I just have 2 cats.  I have a friend who has 5 rescue dogs, but I don't think she's odd because of the number of animals she has.  She loves to take care of rescue dogs, and she happens to have a bunch of them!  Sometimes people don't bat an eye at that notion, but if someone has a bunch of cats, they're suddenly crazy!   ;)

I do think that the guy might've opened up a bit too soon with Shannon about the pain of his divorce.  I'm sure that the scene was edited quite a bit and that we missed most of their conversation, but next time he goes on a first date he might want to wait and give more details about his divorce at a later time - given he has another date with that person.  If I was sitting there, I'd wonder if he was truly over his divorce and actually ready to date again.  He seemed nice enough though.

I think he said it also as a way to relate and empathize with someone who is newly divorced.

It would be one thing if she was the one to bring up the divorce but she was talking about the girls and then he switches it to her husband, forgetting to add the ex, than putting it all back on himself and his divorce. People talking about their last relationship on a first date is never a good look in my book.

Yep, you hit the nail on the head. Both LVP and Kyle have multiple dogs on RHoBH. Are they ever called Deranged Dog Ladies? Nope. But if someone has multiple (usually any more than 2) cats they are referred to as Crazy Cat Ladies. When  people call me that I I tell them that I am lucky to be married to a Crazy Cat Man. We have had a many as 6 as once (and all of ours are rescues or strays that adopted us) and believe me, they take up a lot less room, time, and energy that 6 dogs would. Ours do though have 4000 sq ft of house,  a 900 sq foot garage to roam around in, and an 800 sq ft outdoor catio that they access from the window of a downstairs bedroom. When people ask us why we have such a big house for just the two of us, my hubby answers that we need the room for our kitties. Though now they only number 3.

I find it funny that Vicki continually says she gave up on her marriage too soon. But then she also says (as she did last week) that she raised those two kids all by herself. Pick a lane, VIcki.

Shannon is now officially a single woman who needs to earn an income. She's making nice with Vicki and Kelly despite their past and current behavior even though you can tell she doesn't really want to. At least that's my perspective. Her face when Kelly was babbling about how Steve was only with Vicki for her money was telling, but she didn't say anything. She's playing the game to keep her orange. They all do it in their own way.

The show isn't as interesting as it used to be because no one except Kelly is really trying to be authentic. I'm not sure what the solution is, but Gina and Emily aren't it.

The solution is to fire Gunvalson.  Bring back an old timer or two.  I don’t like Alexis, but she had chemistry with the cast.  Gretchen would be great if she didn’t have that lead weight ie Slade Slimy around her neck.

Shannon is reality tv gold.  Bring in women to work with her, and base the show around her.  But the Dr moon nonsense can be shelved.

IKR. The second he said that he CRIED, Shannon just went blank behind the eyes and physically withdrew from him. Prior to that she was feeling herself on this handsome guy's arm, going on a date and getting complimented. I remember thinking 'nooooo, Shannon. Run to that, not away', because she's used to being with weapon grade douche, David Beador who can snarf down corn chips while waiting for Shannon to cook him a low calorie healthy meal, and not a man who actually LIKES her. Tom may not be all that, but he's perfect to practice being friends with at least and in the meantime get a feel for a man who is not a controlling abusive psycho.

Before anyone jumps to the conclusion that Shannon, despite her protestations to the contrary, is subconsciously attracted to abusive and cheating douchebags like David and will naturally gravitate toward those types of men, I'd offer that her first date's immediate and frequent references to crying suggests he's at the other end of the spectrum, the self-absorbed and neurotic type who falls apart at the drop of a hat and doesn't have the cajones or the emotional maturity to keep it to himself, particularly on the first date.

A guy can be smart, successful, and sensitive, but that sensitivity is best focused on the woman he loves and her own needs and happiness. Not on his own travails.

Is there an APP or service for Not Quite Single and Not Quite Ready to Mingle people? An APP for people to meet friends, in Shannon's case "of the opposite sex" - to hang out and go to events together in case either needs a plus one.

I don't think Shannon is ready to date. She's such a nervous Nelly and going thru a dating service at this time is too much pressure for her.

So when Kelly was saying that Steve was in it for the money w/ Vicki, she spit out "the dinero" with a bit of an accent. That was some coded racism directed at Steve's Latin heritage, right?

I'm getting bored with this version of the Housewives.  The fresh blood isn't doing it for me either.  The drama seems even more manufactured now.  The only REAL housewife is spitfire Kelly - she's not married so not actually a housewife - but when she goes off it's somehow genuine and not contrived for cameras, plus it's fun to watch. Some of the others, Vicki and Tamra for instance, are just nasty.

I might try Below Deck?

ONLY WATCH IF BEN IS THE CHEF - I CANT TELL YET THIS YEAR IF HE IS COMING BACK

I'm with you on that.

I honestly would be turned off by a date who told me all about his crying jags and then seemed to get teary-eyed talking about it and then blamed it on the drinks.  Not that I want to date assholes, but I wouldn't want someone over-sensitive either.

And maybe this is me unfairly stereotyping, but I am not all that sure he is hetero.  I'm not basing this on crying or the cats.  Just an overall vibe I got from him and that his interest in dating her  was really his interest in getting on TV.

Vicki so badly wanted Steve to have been the one to put together the birthday party. It was hilarious when Michael said "No, it was me!" and Steve said "All I had to do was show up"  Hope that takes her down a few notches. I'm not at Steve Fan either, I find something skeevy about him. Vicki Chavez Lodge indeed....oy!

Vicki also wanted so badly for Steve to give her a ring at that party...never going to happen.

Actually, Gina had those kind of nails last night. Kelly is a hot mess. She has so much anger and rage it's kind of scary. She goes from zero to ten in a nano second. Her fight style resembles that of Cardi B vs. Nicki Minaj. She needs therapy STAT!

So, when people have nails like that, I can't imagine them doing normal, real-life stuff. For example, cutting the grass, diapering a baby, typing on a keyboard, scrubbing the bathroom. Can people with long manicured nails do work? Are there workarounds? I mean, besides just hiring someone else to do the work?

It would drive me nuts not to be able to perform normal functions. But those are normal functions for me.

Well, meetup.com is pretty good.
