Annie & David: On An Allowance at 48? He's Good, I Think

Many people seem to like Annie & David on Pillow Talk; maybe some people who've changed their minds, or people who aren't familiar with this couple from their original season. But I am not a fan, particularly of Annie. I think she's overacting and trying too hard to be cute & funny. I haven't watched their 3-hour special, but if it's anything like Darcey's Journey, there's probably a lot left out.

Towards the end of their 90-day season, Annie started using a lot of unnecessary profanity, including many f-bombs. That's when I started to dislike her. And from there it just got worse.

We remember D&A moved into David's wealthy friends', Chris and Nikki, large home in California when they came back from? Thailand.

Sharp really pushed the broke, grifters David and Annie. A few scenes highlighting Annie drove this storyline, including Nikki, having to pay for an engagement ring when David's credit card was (?surprisingly) declined.

Another scene was of Nikki and Annie going out for a girls night, dressed to the nines, Annie obviously wearing Nikki's clothes. Their conversation veered toward Nikki saying "you'll have to be on your own soon," to which Annie replied in a snotty tone, "your husband co-sponsored me, and he's responsible for me for 10 years." This was new information to Nikki, and their girl-date ended abruptly. There was also a SM rumor that Annie stole cash from Nikki's purse, which was never debunked.

Shortly thereafter D & A were essentially given the bum's rush by Chris & Nikki, many weeks before their prearranged departure date.

So, Mr. Matt Sharp, what's going on? Are you trying to present a new and improved David and Annie? You know how when someone tells you another person has been mean & nasty towards them, and then they make up & get back together, so you're supposed to forget the terrible things you've been told? No, I cannot forget.

I agree, she’s transformed herself to be somewhat like-able in order to make a nice buck on this show, and David is going along for the ride. Better than working  40 hr a week. But they’re both scammers.

They both look older than their reported 20s & 40s.

My husband, who watches maybe 6 minutes of each episode- just remarked that no way was Annie 24 (when they did the water buffalo in Thailand) AND no way that Julianna is whatever age she says she is. He thinks Annie is way older and Julianna way younger.

David wants to introduce everyone to the family's newest water buffalo. Five slides, the first is video and there are no scenes of the actual birth, for those who do not wish to view that sort of thing.

David answers the question in the comments that they are not in Thailand at the moment and that he bought the two at the time of their engagement and this is the baby.

David, in particular, has me looking askance at how these people are presented on the show.  I remember in his season that he was unemployed, and it didn't surprise me that he didn't have a job because who would want to hire a repellent schlub like that?  He was such a sad-sack zero.

I think there was talk about how he could be a waiter, and I thought he would be particularly unsuited for a job where you have to interact with people, again because of his zero personality.

But on Pillow Talk, he actually has a personality, and might even be considered lively.  The guy I see on Pillow Talk could definitely pull off being a waiter, and would probably be a positive presence in any work environment.

So which is the "real" David?  I'm leaning toward the Pillow Talk David, because I think it would be a tall order for the David of his season to summon liveliness and wit (referring to his belly, he said he doesn't have a six-pack--he has a keg).  On the other hand, I think it would be pretty easy for someone who's typically more "normal" to present himself as a sad-sack zero.

Now, why he'd agree to do that, whether explicitly or implicitly?  That would involve understanding the mind of a reality TV star, and that's way beyond my capabilities.

I think a hair transplant works by cutting a strip of scalp from the back of the head where there is almost always hair growing and taking the hairs and moving them to the new place on the top of the head. Looks crazy for a while but it usually looks ok after and the hair grows fine transplanted to the new area. My husband is bald and he thinks it's a waste of money but he is a good looking guy with or without hair so he doesn't care about it.

I will give David props that he is good at PR for himself. I have commented to him a few times on Instagram and he always answers back. I thought he was a sleazeball during his season but being on Pillow Talk has helped his image by being able to laugh at himself.

It's probably also helped his self esteem to be earning his money, rather than depending on kissing up to his rich friend.  Even if it's less money, at least he's earned it (more) honestly.

He and Annie also do special appearances in some of the lounges around the Phoenix area.  They probably get a cut of the cover charge and maybe even some of the bar sales.  I've watched Judge Judy, and have seen that some lesser celebrities do this for money.

This was a looong time ago, and why I remember it, please don't ask:  There was a rather famous soap actor from the mid 70's who was fired from the show in the early 80's, back when you were pegged as one type of actor.  He could not get hired out for anything so......he hired himself out as an ESCORT!  I saw it on Sally Jesse Raphael.  In 1988.  Yet I remember it today!!

Edited to add:  It was bugging me so I looked it up:

"In 1997 Reinholt placed an ad in a local paper offering his services to take women to parties or other events. Some of the press implied he was selling himself as an escort, in a sexual manner. Reinholt was furious and appeared on the Sally Jessy Raphael talk show to clear up the record."

George Reinholt was his name.

****In the midst of all this craziness it is comforting that I can access THAT from way back, lol!!!!*******

If washed-up stars did escort, that would be an interesting business model.  You could pick a Larry Wilcox or Morgan Fairchild from a website like Cameo lol.

Speaking of washed up, do we really need another Fran Drescher sitcom?

Man my standards have fallen after watching Geoffrey, Ed and Tom. I think they are both grifters but David does seem to love her. I also think if he ever called her fat, told her to shave or laid a hand on her Annie would kick his ass. She isn't the demure village girl that is for sure. I would say they are evenly matched and both went into this with eyes wide open.

Good for her ...though if feel better if she maybe used some gloves?

Nope, you can't really sew wearing gloves, and it wouldn't make a difference.  Whoever gets it should ALWAYS disinfect it before use - you can never know what (or who) it came in contact with before you got it.

I thought on What Now they said she is going to do video cooking classes.

Thai food is so healthy that David must be cheating with American snack food to be getting so large.  Although booze is empty calories too.

They have a little lifestyle-type channel on Youtube where she does some cooking instruction, but the videos could use some editing help. They try to incorporate their friends into it, but I'd rather have them just focus on her and what she's cooking, and cut out some of the monotonous stuff, like a lot of chopping, etc. Anyway, I'd definitely watch a well produced cooking show with Annie. I'd love to learn Thai cooking.

I took a Thai cooking class in person.  The great thing today is that ethnic ingredients are much easier to obtain than years ago.

Alot of Thai cooking as coconut milk and cream in it, which is very fattening. But you dont get fatass fat like David by overeating some Thai food. That's gotta be like compulsive overeating to get that large. You'd think he'd want to be healthier to live longer with Annie...*shrugs*

It seems like the stuff she makes is more based on fish sauce or peanut sauce.  It looks like stir fry.  He may have a freezer full of ice cream and a pantry full of cookies.

I follow David on Facebook.  He just posted an hour ago about a restaurant where he and Annie were eating.  I commented, "Darn!  If I'd have known you were going to be so close, we'd have driven up and bought your lunch and said Hello!"

Within 3 minutes, he responded back with a ❤️ and commented, "awwww"

The way to David’s heart is definitely through his stomach.

I think most reality TV "stars" are grifters of some sort.  They're not actors playing a role (would we call them grifters?) but real people who amp up or amp down their personalities in order to continue being reality TV stars.  They all have Instagram/YouTube accounts and that's all about getting followers and making money.

As much as I've grown to like David via Pillow Talk, he was a shameless mooch when we met him during his season. And I mean shameless with a capital S. I image the "awwww" response to AZC's offer to buy lunch was, "...awwww...crap, we already paid..."

Actually,  I think it was probably because I also mentioned that we loved them on Pillow Talk.

David is why I think so much of the drama on this shake is fake, or at least greatly amplified.  I HATED him in his season but I think he's hilarious on Pillow Talk.   I wasn't a big Molly fan before Pillow Talk, either and now I want to be her best friend.  And Cynthia's.

Anyway, Annie is a touch annoying on PT but she doesn't really bother me.

I never watched their seasons (David/Annie/Molly/Cynthia) and I love them ALL on Pillow Talk! Especially Annie with "Boom boom!" and the  catty girl talk, Southern-drawl style. I live not awfully far from Molly, and have posted previously that I'm trying to talk my daughter into getting a bra fitting at her lingerie shop when this situation clears up!
