It's also a little weird to me, considering the long-standing issues with methamphetamine in the area. Like, opioid abuse is certainly happening in the area--and Arkansas does have a very high opioid prescription rate--but I feel like it's much less on the minds of most people in the area than all the people who are on meth and have been on meth for years. I hear much worse horror stories about opioid abuse from folks who have moved here from other states that are hard hit.

You remember the Momo thing? When that was a thing, the big meme making the rounds on Arkansas FB pages was Momo doesn't scare Arkies because she looks just like the meth tweakers you see stealing meat all the time at Wal-Mart. . . .  LOL

Opioids are certainly a growing concern, but it just seems more like a talking point he has been given than any real significant interest on his part.

Meth and meth addicts are completely different from opioid addicts.   The root causes are different and most state or higher level politicians ignore meth.  It's really an issue about money and who is making it.  Oddly enough,  meth generates money for the local economy because everything need to make it can be bought legally in the US. ** The crackdown on opioids means the addicts turn to heroin.  That does nothing for the local economy.   There's also the fact that almost everyone in the country is potentially one accident away from becoming an opioid addict.  And both major political parties consider this an important issue so naturally Jed will have some opinion on it.  He lacks the education and life experience to add anything substantial to the debate,  but that won't stop him.

**the limits on how much sudafed a person can purchase is a joke.  The main purpose of having you sign for it is to create a paper trail for law enforcement.  As a pharmacy technician the cops told us to err on the side of allowing the purchase to create evidence.   Also the system allows you to go from chain to chain and buy as much as you want as long as you have a car and time.

That makes sense. In my county, at least, heroin is quite unusual. It really stands out if someone is arrested in possession of it. Meth and, to a lesser extent, cocaine on the arrest reports doesn't make me bat an eye because it is pretty common.

From what I've heard, a lot of our local meth makers have shifted away from sudafed. I am not sure exactly what they are using now for it.

Jed and ever other politician bringing up the opioid crisis is full of shit. Addiction has always been an issue, but the blame has always been on the person addicted. But now that they see folks who look like them facing these struggles, they feel called to action.

Jed can stroll along at a rally, he can attend community events, but he's still Jed. A young sheltered, narrow minded, uneducated poser.

I doubt he is even aware of the opioid crisis.

Well, whoever wrote his platform is aware......But whoever wrote his platform is aware of every issue a conservative candidate could possibly be aware of. And wrote some super-generic boilerplate into Jed!'s platform about every single one of them, including that one...

But there are two results of that....

The first is that Jed!"s platform doesn't sound like a person wrote it -- no sense in there at all about what the candidate is especially interested in or whether he has any personal connections to any of the issues or ideas about dealing with them or  whatever....I mean, that makes sense since in fact Jed! has none of those things. However, the result is that the thing sounds like AI wrote it, although I'm sure it was one of JB's political acquaintances...No life to it at all...

And the second is that it's absolutely clear that no Duggar of any kind wrote it. Since no Duggar knows jack. About anything. Let alone the long list of issues that are mentioned....Of course voters who don't know the Duggars as well as we do might not get that point....

Some will notice the first thing, though, most likely.

I've seen this posted on Facebook and Twitter.  It's attributed to Christian Pastor Dave Barnhart on Roe vs Wade:

"The unborn" are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don't resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don't ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don't need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don't bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. It's almost as if, by being born, they have died to you. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus but actually dislike people who breathe.

Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn."

That type of mindset is completely crazy to me, but the above describes those pro-life people well, including Jed!  Once you're born, you're on your own.  Then you're just a pain in their lily-white asses.  Mind-boggling.

Yes, but how does that translate to knowing the sex of each child? Unless she had an ultrasound and memorized the positions.  This whole BS story  it’s pretty much just Michelle‘s way of keeping Jana down. It’s no surprise Jill kind of picked up on the “resent one of your kids” vibe from mama.

Michelle probably did have ultrasounds, most people did back then.  Twins can move in the uterus, but they do tend to stay in the same position relative to one another.  So, I supposed if she always felt movement in one place, then, at her ultrasound, they could look and see what kid's extremities were there and identify it.  I have certainly had moms of multiples tell me they felt one baby moving more than the other(s).

I just want to clarify. There has always been folks who look like Jed and many politicians, who struggle with addiction. The opioid crisis has made it harder to deny this fact.

The opioid crisis is a crisis because it's affecting a lot of middle class, middle aged white women; the mothers, sisters, and daughters of politicians. The meth crisis only became a crisis when it started creeping up the socio-economic ladder. The crack crisis was only a crisis because addicted babies pull at people's hearts even if they're not white. The alcohol crisis of the late 70s/early 80s only became a crisis because white women were tired of their children being killed by drunk drivers.
While most politicians only care when it hits close to home, Jed!2020 only cares because he's been told it's important to be outraged about opioids. It will be interesting to see if he drags J'Tyler's mother into this to prove that he's sincere.

Middle aged white women (and men) who are related to politicians do not escape other drug and alcohol addictions either. The numbers may have been fewer, but they exist, it's just better hidden due to stigma and blame.

What in the ever-loving fuck is up with Tebow's hair?

I dunno about his hair, but I swear he has two beards.

Back on topic: I'm pretty sure the Duggars think their magic name and Jed!'s Y chromosomes will guarantee him victory, thus no point in posting about MLK Day or even mounting a real campaign.

This group probably sees MLK, and think it's a new trendy way to spell milk.

On a more serious note, if you want a glance into the opioid crisis in NWAK, check out Jessica Kent on YouTube.  She did her last prison sentence down there from dealing out of Springdale.  She's now 7+ years sober, and she managed to get her daughter out of DHS custody after having her while in prison.  Jed! is smart (one can dream) to focus on a singular topic; otherwise, he's going to end up as roadkill just like daddy did with his failed campaign.

I'm confused why the kids never went to college.. even Christian college?  The Bates kids went to Christian colleges.. even met their now spouses at school.. and did the whole courtship over a longer period of time before they got married.

Perhaps if Jana ventured outside the home.. traveled more.. she might meet someone that would strike her interest.  Is there any truth of rumors of her and one of the Bates sons?

Boob was notoriously single-issue. Probably why he got pasted by Hutchinson in his Senate run.

I don't think Jana has ever been paired off with a Bates boy. Could you see her with Lawson? That would be a disaster. As for travel, she gets out some, mostly with galpal Laura.

It's been speculated that the Duggars might not be able to handle the course work, even at a school like Crown. Or JB is worried about that. Joe did some time at Crown, but I don't remember how that worked out.

Jana does travel some. I think she's met lots of people. It may be she doesn't want to get married, which isn't allowed in her family.  The Bates boys are just rumors as far as we know. I hope she only gets married if she really wants to.

JB and Michelle didn't go to college so why should their kids go?

On top of being control freaks who don't want their kids exposed to something other than their own beliefs, I think that JB&M might not want their kids to have more knowledge than them and/or think that education is not necessary in life.

They may just not want to pay tuition either.

Did the Bates have any real education or did they have a Bates Academy similar to the Duggar Academy?  Thx.

Bates Academy.

From what I understand Gil and Kelly have Bachelor's degrees from a real college. Erin has a degree in music, Tori a degree in early education, Carlin liberal arts, Josie cosmetology, Katie is in school for cosmetology, Michaela is in for nursing and Ashley nothing beyond Bates Academy.

Not sure where Erin's music degree is from. Tori, Carlin, Josie and Katie all went to Crown.

Two of the boys went to the police academy.

Erin's music degree is from Crown.  The story was that she was offered a scholarship at either Tennessee State or University of Tennessee, but she was afraid that there would be people with green hair in her class.  It was quite the topic of conversation a few years back.

Which other son is at the police academy?  At least Zach earns a real salary for a genuine job in law enforcement.
