I'm willing to give money for a final get-together in New York if needed.

What, you mean like a last TARCon?  Funny, I was just thinking along those same lines!

But it seems they are doing the cowardly thing, where they don't actually announce cancellation.  Just delay the next season indefinitely.  (I guess it's to avoid a storm of criticism on social media, from the faithful fans.)  So, how do you organize a final TARCon, if still hoping for another season?

Honestly, I'm not really surprised it is ending.  Considering just how much of a pita air travel is these days, not to mention pretty expensive, and all the hassle of security, etc., I'm sure the show is not cheap to produce (unlike Survivor or BB).

And I agree that the mucking it up with the blind dating gimmick turned a lot of other people off.  I didn't mind the social media season too much, at least those contestants still had the 'pre-existing relationship' from all prior seasons.  I certainly am not looking forward to the coming season with the school-yard pick your partner gimmick, but I'll still watch for the scenery/travel porn.

I'm hoping that at least Season 30 will eventually get flimmed, likely an all star season to wrap things up.  I would think they would wait for the new year, hoping that emotions die down.

This is according to Reality Blurred posted in October (link):

Season 30 of The Amazing Race is currently casting, and will film this winter.

TAR 30 will be started filming in winter (in January; the 30th cycle's final month of production) right before the premiere of TAR 29 with having only eight and a half weeks left to wrap up the TAR 30 production. As CBS announced the race premiere in April, the 30th cycle will be scheduled to air in July and to be finished in mid-September right before the start of 2017-18 TV season.

Wow, TAR would have a two cycles air back-to-back between mid-spring and early fall (April to September). TAR 30 might be competed in airtime with Big Brother 19.

If so, I don't think it'll be a big deal.  It worked in 2003 & 2004 for seasons 4 & 5.  I think the issue would be rather relevant competition on the other networks with their summer hits and/or reality shows.  That, and what day they'd stick the show

I'd love to hope that the show would go for four cycles (to top the 2004-2005 TV year of 3).  I don't think TAR 30 is a definitely go at all, but if so, funds aside they'd tape TAR31 in the summer, 32 in the fall, and get 31 to air in autumn 2017 and Season 32 in winter-spring 2018.  They'd sort of catch up if that happened, but the news of TAR29 is good as much as bad or saddening based on the premiere

According to this Apr 21 has been set for Season 29's premier date.  Back again on Friday at 8:00.  It starts with a 2 hour premier.  Hope its not just a rumor

Yes, that is true 100 percent. MacGyver reboot needs to finish its first season run right before the race premiere. There is a post at ratings and scheduling thread.

This might be the beginning of the end. I mean, I hate being Chicken Little, but that's how I feel. My big surprise is that CBS would let Training Day waste away on Saturday nights, since it's the last series featuring Bill Paxton.

Thinking about it, maybe it's not a death/neglect sentence. Consider: we get TAR weeks early, and this comes after March Madness. I don't think I see anything that late on Thursdays; the only show I know that I watch that night is Powerless.

This is the same type of scenario we saw with seasons 4, 5 and 6 almost 15 YEARS ago. TAR 4 did well, so production had to speed up to film seasons 5 then 6, and at first the plan had been to put 6 on Saturdays nights in November if it wasn't taken off the bench to fill in for a failed show before then. At the time, Saturday nights were even more of a death knell than it is considered to be now as some older skewing new shows do succeed there. In that long ago season, it was the Hugh Jackman failed venture, Viva Laughlin ,that caused it to come off the bench 6 weeks earlier than expected on a weeknight.

And this isn't the first time TAR has aired at 10pm on a weeknight for CBS, which came IIRC for season 9 for 4 weeks (Wednesday) or so following a Super Bowl lead in, then a shift for that season to 9pm on a different night . Sounds to me that Training Day won't be back for a second season due to Paxson's death (hence burning off the episodes), and all these scheduling moves at the same time suggests that CBS hadn't planned on all of this -- MacGyver probably coming back for season 2 paired with Hawaii 5-0 (same producers/common universe with NCIS and H50). But in a sense, this probably does greenlit 30 for filming.

Welp, just watched the intro video on CBS.com. I can tell already I'm going to be hate-watching a sizable chunk of this cast. At the top of my list is the Harvard bro who calls himself the "total package".

I'll be very intrigued by what they come up with for the initial team picking order challenge. It better be a good and comprehensive one, because it'll set the tone for the entire season.

It feels like they went super hard on the Alpha male and Alpha female personalities. In another the cast the long haired Asian hippie guy might've been a caricature, but on this cast him (and the Yarn Artist) might be a welcome respite...

No. According to the press release, there will be some sort of challenge at the starting line that will determine the order of who gets to pick teammates first (based purely off of how they do during that challenge and some sort of introductory meet and greet).

It's not completely clear on all the mechanics (Maybe the first 11 finishers will get to pick partners from those who finish 12-22, but that doesn't seem quite right). Whatever they come up with, we are definitely going to end up with a "last picked for dodgeball" scenario for one poor contestant.

I'm glad that there's some sort of involvement of the racers in selecting the teams, rather than some randomizer matching people up.  It will be interesting to see if the first couple of people who get to choose stay with the same gender, if women go for the most athletic men, etc.   I just hope Phil learned his lessons from the "blind date" fiasco of a season, and doesn't try to start playing matchmaker with any of the new teams.

  • Love 1

Here is a comment I posted back in S26 (blind date fiasco season), with my idea of how to pair up strangers.

"I also think teams made of strangers would be a good theme, but I'd stick with the same partners for the whole race, because switching up would make it impossible to follow people/teams.  Start with 24 (or is it 22?) people, each has a card with the most basic info - name, age, profession, maybe one fun fact - and then treat it like picking teams for kickball.  Draw numbers for the right to pick first, and let people select their own teammate.  For the people being picked, you have one veto to use to decline being on a team, but after that's up, if you're chosen you're on that team.  It would take a little time in real life, but could be edited down to just a few minutes on screen.  Just don't have any obvious "last picks", aka significantly older, out of shape, etc.  I think it would be interesting to see who people would select, and whether they made the right choice in the end. "

  • Love 2

Basically, substitute a task/challenge for drawing numbers and that's what we might be seeing. The one veto idea would be interesting though.

It is an even split of 11 men and 11 women. I feel like it probably won't end up being 11 coed teams though (unless the task/challenge forces that on them in some way). I could see maybe 9, and then one of each or maybe 7 coed teams and two of each (Girl Girl and Guy Guy)...

Lots of clips during Survivor that only confirm that this season will be all about intra-team strife. Always makes for good watching. *eyeroll* 'people who didn't have a previous relationship and don't seem to want to have one here either now that they are forced to.' Makes me long for 'people with a pre-existing relationship' instead.

And as I mentioned in 'Scheduling' this seems like a death-blow to the once proud franchise, and I hate seeing it go out with what is likely to really suck; a gimmicky whimper instead of a deserved All-Stars bang. Well, it was a (mostly) good run.

It's making me sad, but I'm out.

I have watched and -- to some extent -- enjoyed every episode or TAR ever shown.  Granted, some episodes were better than others, just as some seasons were better than others.  Whether this is TAR's Swan Song or not, I will watch every single episode, good or bad.  When I go to the great TARCon in the sky, I will be able to discuss the entire body of work with the other fans I find there.

  • Love 8

I will be watching, too.  I have absolutely hated some of the gimmicks added to the format, and wish with all my heart that we would or could go back to Original Version TAR.  I still, however, have found something to like about each and every season.  Hated - and still do - the Family edition, for example, but only because they allowed adults to compete against little children.  On the other hand, I'm so glad to have met Tony and Marian Paolo, and while I can't say I liked them, I often talk about the Weaver family.   Through the years I have had my favorite teams, and those I found less than likeable, and those that I have even forgotten their names.  But through it all, it was fun and TAR showed me parts of the world that I ain't never going to get to on my own.

The good news is: the shows it's up against are the Catch and The Blacklist: Redemption, shows that are struggling for ratings.

The bad news is: I still don't think the time slot for THIS show is that great. Most of the marquee reality shows air between 8-10 and the travel aspect has been the saving grace of the show for years.  Lose the younger fans that can't stay up that late on a show past its hey day and it's not a great combination.  I'm still going to watch (thankfully at 9 PM thanks to time shifting in Canada) but I do think the suggestion that CBS wants one season is an option Bert, Elise, Phil and company should really consider.  I would rather have one GREAT season than 2 "so...that happened" seasons.

Amazing Race to hold auditions in Florida:

http://www.clickorlando.com/entertainment/the-amazing-race-holds-auditions-in-kissimmee

There is a casting call scheduled in Kissimmee on June 24.

Also, there was a casting call February 11 in Santa Clara, CA

http://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/article/The-Amazing-Race-to-hold-open-casting-call-in-10886997.php

and the CBS website listed an audition in Ontario CA last month.

That obviously doesn't mean there's a commmitment for another season, and all of the applications could go into the round file any time, but at a minimum it means they haven't shut down just yet.

I wonder if there were decoy tryouts while the first All-Stars and Unfinished Business were being planned/run?

Actually, real tryouts.  The people doing the casting didn't know TAR11 would be an All-Star race.  A few of the teams chosen were just carried over into TAR12 instead.  I don't think TAR18 had any tryouts, though, because they did know that that would be a returning team season.

CBS

As for the two unscripted CBS veterans left on the bubble, the Emmy-winning The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss, the expectation is that the reality staples will return in some shape or form based on their pedigree. They also may be needed for plum spots in case there is a writers strike.

Right now, the first possible strike date for the writers is early May.  It won't affect a lot of shows since they will be in hiatus, but if it's not resolved by early to mid June, that will cause a problem as scripts won't be ready for shows that film as of early July and will push season premieres back.  TAR has their best days behind them, but it's not dead in the water yet.

undercover boss is just an ad for corporate America basically white washing some bosses reputation, see he is just like us and great guy and he gives a scholarship top  one worker while cutting health care for all the others  what a great guy.

Amazing race is more like a lot of people's dream. Travel adventure, excitement all the while being watched over and pretty safe.

I went to the CBS site to see the unshown media and could not find it there, so I have been finding it on you tube.
