Sadly, Jenni’s probably got a better chance of picking something up at Dining Table school in a house where one person has a real degree (or two!) and the older kids go to proper school even if she is being asked to aunt-mom an infant. The effect of being in a home where education is valued is huge.

Does it light something in her brain when Izzy mentions what they’re learning this year or Sam shows off his new school supplies? Does someone actually bother to ask what she’s learning in between diaper changes and really listen to her answers?

Maybe none of that happens. But it certainly won’t happen at TTH.

She's definitely going to need help. I was under weight restriction for 6 weeks if I remember correctly after I had mine removed. I want to say nothing more than 10lbs and I couldn't pick up anything on or near the ground.

Ah, poor Jill. Two surgeries so close together *and* having a newborn would be tough. I’m glad she’s got help, even if it is Michelle.

After mine was done and I left the hospital, I went right back to work.  I don’t remember having any restrictions except for dietary recommendations. But I didn’t have an infant or need to do a lot of lifting. Those scars itched, though! Odd how patients can get such varied instructions from doctors. I hope Jill recovers quickly and has all the help she needs.

Yea, my mom was sent home without restrictions. She was in her 60s, had the operation on Thursday and went back to work on Monday.

Jill seems to need some extra TLC, if her 'recovery' from having her wisdom teeth removed is any indication.

When my cousin was pregnant she got real sick with her gallbladder. Only after my Godson was born was she able to get surgery. It runs in my family but I'm lucky it isn't an issue with me, so far. I wish Jill the best.

Recovery time for gall bladder removal depends on whether or not the surgery was laparoscopic.  When I had mine out, the surgeon said recovery is about a week with some lift restrictions if it was laparoscopic.  But if they couldn’t do that, and I needed an open surgery (which they wouldn’t know until they started), it would be about a 6-8 week recovery.  I was very glad it was laparoscopic but I can’t imagine if I had to take care of a newborn after that.  Getting up from a sitting position was very painful.  Plus I get really sick from anesthesia, no matter what they give me.  So surgery recovery for me can be somewhat difficult.  Not going to knock Jill for having help, especially if she did have an open surgery.

I am sorry Jill had to have surgery but I am glad she isn't suffering from gallbladder attacks any more. This is a lot right after having a baby and having two other small kids at home.

The kids started school today, so Jill will get a bit of a break. I hope she doesn't have to drive them because that would mean packing up the baby.

I wonder how close to school they were able to buy this time.  Their last house was a nice walk from the school.  I obviously have not been sleuthing.

Exactly, I am sure they side-eye the Dullard boys whenever the mention of "school" comes up.  It's heartbreaking to us, for them, they don't know what they don't know.

Big brothers and big sisters can fetch diapers or corral the dog or hunt for a misplaced pacifier without being put upon or becoming parentified.  It can even make them feel useful and bonded to the sibling if not overdone.

As much as I was pleasantly surprised that Michelle went to help out the Dillards (even though I think most of the estrangement was with Boob rather than Michelle), I'm trying to picture her helping the boys get ready for school. I hope, hope, HOPE she is abiding by the Dillard rules in that respect.

I don't think Michelle cares much about ... anything. I feel like she puts on a show on tv because of the family brand, but Michelle has gotten through life by being indifferent, and she's not about to change now.

Oh they’ve definitely been taught that school is for sinners, but there are girls in other parts of the world who are also forbidden from attending school, yet they still desire to go.

I could have sworn I read and/or heard that somewhere directly from the Duggars, but the last time I tried to fact-check it was after the trial, and finding anything about him not related to that was nigh on impossible.

I would imagine Michelle is probably more interested in the new baby than the older boys.  I picture her mostly sitting and holding Frederick and expecting Jill to get the boys ready for school.  She never took much interest in her own kids after they were a few months old, so why would grandkids be any different?

I think its quite possible that his new employers are aware of his wife's recent surgery and are allowing him to come late to get the kids to the bus while she recovers.  It would not be unusual in a salaried position like he has.  He will undoubtedly be able to make up the time at another point when they are in the midst of a trial or something.

That being said, she probably had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (don't you love the big words?) and should be perfectly capable of supervising the kids getting dressed and out the door or even walking them to the bus stop at this point.

By the same token, Michelle hasn't cooked or cleaned in her own home for years, I doubt she's doing it at Jill's, either.  She probably just sits there holding the baby, reminiscing about her own fecundity.

I can see Jill wanting another adult around just because she's not feeling her best and she's got a newborn to deal with.  Even if Michelle doesn't do anything, at least she's another grownup to talk to and to help if something goes wrong.   And, since Jill has never gotten one on one attention from her mom since birth, she probably doesn't mind sharing her with a couple of her own kids.  It's still way better odds than Jill ever had growing up.

What a long way Jill has come since Danger America, though, when falling shower racks sent her into a panic.
