Jessa, Ben and Their Brood: Making a (Diaper) Mountain out of a Mold House

Message added by Scarlett45

The Duggars post about politics on social media frequently, but these social media posts are not an invitation to discuss politics here in this forum. This rule extends to Duggar adjacent families, friends, associates etc. Such discussions are a violation of the Politics Policy.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss certain social media postings of those in the Duggar realm as they relate to politics- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Jessa, aka Princess Prickly Pear, strikes me as a cold fish all around.   I used to call Mr. E "the man child", until I realized he's just gentle and passive and often defers to me.  Until I figured this out, I found it exasperating. I think Bin is basically a man child, though. For all her love of patriarchy, it's pretty clear to me and everyone else that at least on the show that it's Bossy Boots who wears the pants.

Bin is clearly a dolt, but eventually he's going to tire of Jessa's bitchy ways. Once  Bin has had a craw full of her snark and withering looks, he'll be so over it.  Jerick and SmugAnna seem much better matched than these two. Though I won't wish a divorce on anyone, if Bin doesn't grow a set, I predict these two will be the first Duggar divorce.

I think so as well. Bin reminds me of the guy in high school who dreams of banging the hot cheerleader, but after he finally has her, he discovers she's not all she's cracked up to be. Once the TLC money dwindles and shit gets real, I predict they won't last three years. Right now it's easy to coast because there's little stress and easy cash to be had. When Bin has to work two jobs and come home to a filthy house, cranky wife, screaming babies and dinner consisting of potatoes swimming in beef fat, he'll get a pretty big wake-up call.

Yup...Boob also got to bang the hot cheerleader who turned into a mega frumper breeding machine...but I think Michelle shows Jim Boob a lot more appreciation and gives him credit for what he actually does do right.

You're right that as long as the TLC gravy train is there, the living will be easy. But, I think once reality strikes, this will be Jessa.

Do you think Jessa and Jill have noticed how, in terms of media attention, first babies are awesome (!!!!) but each subsequent birth gets a little less hoopla (see the Smuggars)? Unless they can have quadruplets or make it to the double digits before the money dries up I don't think super-fertility is nearly as lucrative as they expect.

To keep pumping out kids for no other reason than staying in the gossip column seems like a screwed up reason for having them, IMO.  I thought that Duggars were supposed to believe that every child  is a blessing and a wanted child.

it bothers me no end that Jill and Jessa feel so much pressure to keep the gravy train going as to put themselves at medical risk to continue  this mindless breeding to end up with a passel of grubby, unhappy children and no means or skills to support them. We saw a grimy Izzy sweating on an ill fitting and unstable Bumbo seat, and other photos that made us question Muffy's parenting skills and  watch her struggle atbeing so overwhelmed with just one.  Jess had lots of help from Jana, but if she had to do it on her own, would we see photos like Muffy posted?

Michelle and Jim Bob got a show for having 19 kids.

How in the world does Bin think he could support a large family?  Something will have to change for him to ever be able support even a small family.  One of these days, maybe after child 3 or 4,  Derick will come to his senses and go back to accounting but Bin has no such option.

Agree with above.  Bin looks like he is strung out on benadryl.  Dry mouth, droopy eyelids, slurry words, half sentences.  Coupled with him just being Bin.  Nuff said.

With all of the dust in that house, that sounds right.

Princess Prickly Pear has more important things to do than clean house...she's too busy planning her next Internet FU and banning people who say anything she doesn't like.

I thought that wimmin folk in Gothard Land were supposed to keep a spotless home.  Surely Jessa doesn't have to work and she's only got one kid and a horde of sister moms to look after the kid or help her clean.

Jess..one word...Swiffer..

I love what they said about expecting a baby or babies I thought they were expecting a cash cow.

It's the only thing they do that makes them remotely interesting. As one poster put it...they are so boring, that even my most boring day is far more interesting than they are.

They are probably getting their story lines from all the posts here so the can send us Internet FUs. What thrilling thing will we get to watch Jessa do next? Clean the filthy hovel she lives in?

Will Jim Boob finally lose his shit over Derick's man bun? Maybe Bin will decide he has to have one, too, and we will get to see his mouth breather talking heads about the progress of his man bun...or I know, he'll grow a set of dreadlocks because he wants to be a Christian reggae singer...yeah, mon, dats dah ticket...I called the BOLO for Rasta Bin...

She's what, 3 months pregnant? She popped rather early.

I popped early with my second, too.  It happens frequently with second and subsequent kids, especially if the mom has big babies.  Or multiples. ?

Amazing how Jessa went from 'thin' and frumpy, to tight-t showoff in one week. But not a TV family. No Ma'am.

She doesn't have to hide her baby bump anymore...the cat is out of the bag.  Now she can flaunt it.

I was right. Note the body con shirt now that the Blessed Event has been announced. Not to mention, who on earth under 70 wears ugly shirt like that? Jessa, honey, florals are not your friend.

Yup, same shirt. I almost didn't recognize it without the awful Mustard Sweater From Hell.

Can someone fill me in on the deal with the ever-present mustard cardigan?  Does each Duggar female own one, or do they pass it around like some treasured family jewel?  And for the record, there are only a handful of people who look good in that color.  My friend looks great in it, but she's a redhead.

I wonder if they love that mustard sweater so much because of the parable of the mustard seed.  It's not enough to tell people you are Christian, you have to use visuals.

Nah, I think it's much more simple than that. Mustard was a big trend a couple of years ago, but as has been noted, not many women can actually pull it off. I have a sweater in the color family, but it's more gold, and my face is milky white, so I don't look jaundiced. Anyone with yellow undertones in their skin looks awful in this color. I imagine they found them for cheap at Kohl's/WallyWorld/Tarjhay/fill in discount store here.

But that shirt! It ages her a good 20 years (at least) and does absolutely nothing for her.

On a completely petty, bitchy and shallow note, Jessa is losing her looks at warp speed. Maybe it's just the bad lighting, but her face looks totally different and not in a good way.

Scootch over and make room on that petty, bitchy, shallow couch because that was the first thought in my head, too, when I saw those pics.

Jessa's looking like her father in drag.  She got right into those tight shirts now, didn't she?

I loved being pregnant.  I wonder how much more I'd have loved it if I'd gotten all this attention for doing the same thing millions of women have done before me and will do in the years to come?

She really bloats in the face in pregnancy. That was the first hint I had that she was knocked up. The pictures at Jinger's engagement just made me 100% sure. Her jawline is the first thing to go.

That shirt is nobody's friend...I've seen better in assisted living homes. The cabbage roses are leading my eyes off her I Dream of Jeannie countenance.

Ben has his Sharpie ready for autographs (pic above) but there doesn't seem to be any 'fans' around ....and his shirt is open and there's something white underneath...probably a "wife-beater" (the slang for that shirt, not saying he is one).....wow, with the backwards hat.....how thug can one get....

Ben's FU to the internet.  See, he IS studying the NEW testament!

[Sorry, I managed to delete the IG photo that was here and can't figure out how to put it back because I haz the dumb today--Rhondinella]

Ok, I haven't had a good reason to put my New Testament Ph.D to work for awhile since I'm currently an out-of-work professor hoping to find something more than adjunct teaching (because adjunct teaching pays approximately enough to allow me to go live in a cave and eat berries and nuts of the forrest).  So I'll flex my brain a little here and give you my evaluation of these books and authors, some of which I am very familiar with already, and others I had to look up. For those who care. Those who don't, avert your eyes.

How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth by Fee and Stuart is a VERY common and standard textbook to introduce students to the basic concepts of biblical interpretation and how to (properly) get an appropriate message from the biblical text without reading your own meaning into it.  I've used it in class for years, as do thousands of biblical studies professors around the world. It's a legit scholarly work, generally used in lower-level undergraduate/introductory classes.

New Testament Interpretation: Essays on Principles and Methods I am not familiar with.  But it is edited by I. Howard Marshall who was one of THE premiere New Testament scholars in the world (he died last December).  Long-time professor at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.  And the essays are written by some of the foremost NT scholars of the past 50 years, including Bruce, France and Dunn.

The Intro to the NT book by DeSilva is also a solid scholarly introduction to NT studies commonly used in college undergraduate courses.

The three books on preaching (Robinson, Koessler and Chapell) I confess I don't know at all, as preaching is neither something I do regularly nor teach. However, I do know that the Robinson book is considered a classic of preaching education and highly regarded.

So, to conclude: the texts on the NT itself seem quite solid from a scholarly point of view. I would probably feel comfortable using any of these in a scholarly Bible course. The only thing I would say is 1) it seems like a LOT of books for one undergraduate course.  Unless he's in seminary or grad school? It looks more like the amount of reading you'd do for a graduate course; and 2) the theological traditions (and, therefore, viewpoints) of the authors of these books are all over the place: Methodist (which is Wesleyan), Presbyterian and Baptist (which is Calvinist) and some non-denominational general Evangelicals thrown in the mix. If they are wanting to present one cohesive point of view and interpretive method, then this might be confusing.  But if the goal is to have them read about several different theological approaches to the biblical text, then the mix is fine.

What school is he going to? Because, I have to say, this list of books does not seem out of the mainstream, or like it's from a school that is trying to "brainwash" their students.

Addendum:  Ok, I just saw that he is going to Moody Bible Institute (online, I presume). I don't know if he's doing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or just a certificate program, but they have all three. In light of my cursory analysis of the texts above, I'm surprised Moody would use some of them, honestly, as they are believers in "biblical inerrancy" even to the point of saying that the Biblical texts are inerrant "in the original autographs," which is about as staunchly inerrantist as you can get. Yet many (most?) of those books listed above do NOT hold to this point of view when it comes to how the biblical texts came to be. So . . . . that's interesting.

[Also, shameless plug time: Anyone looking to hire a Bible Ph.D/professor/scholar, former English teacher/professor, professional proofreader/editor, or person to snark on TV (or anything else) for a living, please message me. :-)]
