I love that, if true.

I have no idea of the numbers, but it takes a LOT to totally power a house (meaning oven, dryer, air handlers for AC or forced air). I know this because we just installed a very expensive (10s of K) bank of batteries for our solar array, and we can't power those heavy loads I just mentioned without running out in hours. So I'm guessing that the car can do some simple basics (fridge, lights, wifi, tv, etc.). Not that this is bad.

Yeah, that's still pretty good. All I really care about is heat. I can read by candlelight but I must have heat!

The Chevy ad where she had sushi yesterday followed by “you know I hate seafood” has been changed to having sushi yesterday…and thinking about getting Indian.  And now we know that sometimes, ad agencies hear us.

Actually the Indian part was already in the longer version along with the I hate seafood bit, but there is a new version without the reference to seafood.  Don't remember what took its place though.

I've only seen commercials for her talk show, but isn't that her style?

I think so, but it's not exactly flattering on her.  Still, if she likes it, that's all that really matters.

Can the stylist for the Wayfair ad please dress Kelly Clarkson in something more flattering than those high-waisted, wide belted skirts or in patterns that are best suited for heavy drapery?

I agree that the style she wears in the ads and often on her show is not flattering to her. I don't think belts are flattering to most anyone. The fabric patterns are a little odd too!

The big trend with electric vehicles now is to have such great battery capacity that you can use it as an on site power source.  Ford is touting that their new electric truck the Lightning will be able to power your whole house during a blackout.

I am highly skeptical of that claim.

Be thanksful she doesn't get her clothes from the RealReal, which has a new commercial with ever more circus clownish clothes.

We just bought a generator and believe me, it takes a whole lot of power to completely run a house. There’s no way a truck battery will completely run an entire house, much less a whole business like they imply in their commercial.  Even the smallest gas generator will only power a furnace/air conditioner and your basic lights.  You need a lot more watts to power everything in a house.

I hate the ad for ProNamel toothpaste - the dentist who's touting it has a voice that makes my stomach churn.  What's possibly worse is that she pronounces it ProEnamel, twice.  You'd think the company would want their spokesperson to pronounce their product correctly. Oh, and I just forced myself to listen again (how did my TV know to show it while I was typing this?) - she also says "thenamel" instead of "the enamel".

oh.my.god. I thought it was just me! Do they not teach enunciation in acting school?

I love Kelly but whoever is dressing her is doing her no favors. And the one where she is sitting in the chair she looks so uncomfortable.

This one is Instamute every time she comes on at my house!

I saw a SeatGeek commercial last night that dropped my jaw. The camera had a close up of a woman's (clothed) butt which was computer animated to give the impression that the voiceover was coming from it rather than her face out of camera range.

Maybe nuclear war wouldn't be such a bad idea after all. The raccoons might build a better culture after we're gone.

there's this ad for a cruise line (Celebrity?) that has a flash by of "and a woman at the helm."

So does every Celebrity cruise have a female captain?

And why should I care? Am I ever going to see the captain? Does she steer the ship particularly well?

Just drives me nuts, mostly because I see it about 10x per day.

Having dinner at the captain's table is supposed to be a big deal for some reason.

Every cruise I've taken has a Captain's party where you can meet the Captain (and have your picture taken with him so they can milk more money out of you). We attend for the hors d'oeuvres and free champagne. I have no need to meet him.

I may be misunderstanding something, because I find this maddeningly outdated.  What would it sound like if they said: "...and an Asian/Latino/Black person at the helm"?  Are we really not past this?  Might as well say "Hey look everyone!  We snagged on of those non-white men to be the captain.  We're so edgy."

I'm sad.

While I don't really care what gender my ship captain is, if that's something important to people, that actually is a good ad point as according to Women's International Shipping & Trading Association, only 9 cruise ships total in the world are captained by women.

That's captain Kate, you can find her on the Tikety tok. Her last ship the Celebrity Edge had a lot of women in leading positions. She is on sea trials at the moment with their newest vessel which she will be the captain of. She has one of those fur less cats who's name is Bug and lives on the ship with her and is quite the celebrity.

I can't stand this ad campaign by Station Casinos featuring a smartphone with a face called "Steven Money".  The whole campaign is just obnoxious to me.

This one.

This one.

and this one.

I also hate this campaign from Caesar's Entertainment (Caesar's Palace et al) featuring a ghetto version of Julius Caesar and Cleopatra (since the 60s they had always been featured in a traditional historical look).  There's also been a little obnoxious guy named "Carl" who acts like "that guy".

Consider my shock when I found out Halle Berry was playing Cleo!

And the voice of “Mara” with the flat (don’t give a rat’s ass) tone is the absolute worst.  (She is the voiceover at the end who says “you know, like the sign says” in case you’ve been lucky enough to miss it!).

God, I hate that Mara voice so much!  Involuntary eyeroll on my end every time.

It's like a snarky teenager trying to be cool until they realize everyone in their life is avoiding this affected, world weary nonsense -- you're 15, shut it, child!

We were on a Celebrity cruise in 2016 to Bermuda, she was the Captain.

Holy crap! I might have to throw things at my TV if I see them on it.

Yeah, Ceasar looks totally tacky. Whay do they think that will make anyone want to join?

I don’t know what this says about me, but that Keebler commercial where the elf is spying through binoculars at the “nice family” just reminds me of the movie/book Red Dragon. There were nice families being looked at from afar in that story too, but it did not end with the enjoyment of cookies!

If one of the original artists of a song is no longer with us, that song should not be used in commercials.

”No Rain” by Blind Melon to sell Toyota Trucks is a. wrong and b. doesn’t even make SENSE.  Are you saying your dumb truck only works in sunny conditions?

Also in things that hurt a Gen Xers soul, besides being ludicrous, in the “Push It” ad for Doritos, WHY is the wildlife-watchers backpack unzipped while she’s climbing a tree?  And if you are going to spend time out in the woods waiting for the critters to come out, you’re not bringing noisy-ass bags of chips.

Not to mention No Rain is about being clinically depressed.

I always yell at the TV: "Of course you can't, you're dead!"

I find myself doing that a lot this evening - PBS is having yet another Beg-A-Thon, with some show about "musical memories" hosted by Pat Boone.  A bunch of the people they're featuring have since died since the show was made years ago.  (How long ago did Debbie Reynolds die?)

Does Beg-A-Thon count as a commercial? If so, it really DOES belong in this thread. They keep asking us to give so they can keep showing quality programs like this...  and then they ONLY show those "quality programs" during Beg-A-Thon.  It is SO annoying.

I do that too!  Are his heirs so desperate that they have to exploit their dead relative?

The right to (re)use him in these commercials is held by the company that makes the product.  After selling the company to Sara Lee in the 80s, Dean remained in a marketing capacity so the old commercials the audio would be under their copyright.  The right to use his name and likeness would also have been part of the deal when the company was sold because that would have been an asset of the company a big reason for why they would have bought the company.

I realize it's not likely his grandchildren are directly allowing these commercials, but someone sold the rights to his image without regard for the use.  So the dead person can continue to discuss what he's planning for breakfast.

It's disgusting and insulting to him.  I can't think Jimmy Dean hoped that he could promote product from the grave and someone sold the rights to use him any way they wished.
