Um, wait a minute. Wasn't Jeremy like 30 when he got married? When I think "young Pastor" I imagine a fresh-faced kid just out of college like Bobby Smith. Jeremy drank, partied and had sex prior to Jinger. He already gave into temptation. Talk about trying to rewrite history.

Was the temptation specifically sexual sin? I can certainly see how social media fosters jealousy, pride, makes you want to keep up with the Jones instead of keeping your eyes on God.

And yet...isn’t that Jeremy? If there is anyone who is caught up in the social media culture, it’s him. Very little on his social media is authentic. He puts out a curated image.

They need to define young

I am surprise God has not hit Jerememe with lightning because he is a phony baloney.

Just hold onto your horses, because He will.  It’s highly doubtful that He’ll literally use a lightning bolt, but He’ll do something that’ll knock Jeremy off the pedestal on which he’s placed himself.  I 100% believe that, because I’ve seen it happen more than once.

The sin they're worried about is lust, not greed or pride.

I think fundies of all different stripes worry about the internet as den of iniquity. Not just Gothard and his followers.

The Maxwells use a software or app  that sends a list of all the sites you visited yesterday to your accountability partner. If you're married, your accountibility partner is spouse (Steve and Teri, Nathan and Melanie, etc.) The unmarried adult Maxwells have Teri as their accountability partner.

I saw this hilarious pet adoption campaign about all the perks of adopting adult dogs and cats “because I am a grown-ass adult” and that’s all I can think about with Jinger’s being pressed into service to prophylactically monitor Jeremy’s phone use. Anna, yes, because there is cause. Jinger, no. Jeremy is a grown-ass adult.

If you set aside all the abuse etc that goes with it, on its face the idea that the husband is solely responsible for one set of responsibilities and the wife is solely responsible for another set has its merits. Everyone knows what is expected of one other. There could be comfort in having a defined role.

But Jeremy has thrown a wrench in that. Not only is Jinger solely responsible for all the women’s work, but now she is also responsible for his shit? Nope! He needs to be a grown-ass adult.

Shouldn't they be equally concerned about all sins?

If they truly believe that all sins are equal (as they espouse), then sure. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that they really believe that some sins are more grievous than others. And given fundies' fascination with porn on the internet, I'd guess that sexual sin is at the top of the list. Right up there with murder, it appears.

Lulz, 30s is most definitely young! To clarify my comment, I meant Jeremy wouldn't be considered a "young" groom by Fundie standards. The Instagram post read like he was just out of homeschool and desperate to find a wife before the Devil took hold, when in reality he'd been living independently and doing what he wanted for years.

Well, that certainly applies in the Duggar family!

I think that anyone who places himself on a pedestal runs a very high risk of getting knocked off at some point. The phrase, "pride goeth before the fall" didn't spring from nowhere. No gods needed.

According to Gothard, men are tempted visually and women are tempted in their hearts. Men need to avert their eyes looking at sexy women and women should not read romance novels.

I guess they never met a woman with a healthy libido because they are really WRONG!!!  At least that allows the women to look at sexy men without any problems!! As if that would ever happen.

But wait though - what does Joe have stuffed down his pants? (No, not like THAT. Ew. There's some brownish flat thing tucked in his waistband that I can't figure out. His Bible? That doesn't seem like a particularly godly place to put it.)

If you zoom in, unfortunately you can see that the brown is his blubbery belly along with his belly button.

Wouldn't it be nice if they could shout out each other in normal ways? "Mom and Dad, thanks for all the wonderful memories of growing up! Remember the time we ___? It makes me laugh to think of it to this day! Thanks for educating (haha) me; I'm sure I tried your patience many a time. I'm so grateful I always had a roof over my head and food on the table, despite having eighteen siblings. Thanks for showing us what it means to work hard and build a loving family!"

not that I believe they did all this stuff, but see? No mention of God!

Training? What it means to be a Christian? Seriously...

Robotic Duggarlings to US:

Hey, Jim Bob took children with him when he went shopping at the discount store because he knew that was the godly way to escape all sinful temptations!

That's an action FAR more important than any of the "charity" or "honesty" or "compassion" nonsense YOU people probably think of as "virtue.

MY family knows what true Christianity is. We've give you all YEARS of daily lessons in PURITY, so you should PAY ATTENTION!

"Your constant care for our physical and spiritual needs"???What the heck, Jinger. Eating cold peas out of a can for dinner and someone else's old, worn out, ill-fitting shoes was what your parents' 'constant care' was about. These people haven't EVER taken care of their children properly. They put themselves FIRST....isn't it in their belief system? Children are 3rd in line?....God, each other and THEN, the kids.

On the other hand, JB and M were clearly very good at gaslighting and brainwashing children.

Their level of success there is nothing short of mind-boggling.   ;  )

So, hey, I guess we're all good at different things!   ;  )

When JB and Michelle were working on getting back on the show, they had that picture with Jinger on her wedding day prominently displayed in the TTH.

I bet JB and Michelle are worried and unhappy Jinger is headed to LA. Maybe they had a fight and Jinger is trying to mend fences with a big, public post.

For some reason, it strikes me as insincere, but maybe she does really feel like that.

I listened to enough of the Roloff podcast the other day to hear some of what Jingle said.

She talked in this sort of starry-eyed, vague kind of rambly, somewhat ecstatic way about Jesus and her marriage and so on. It reminded me of the way some friends of mine talked after they fell into super-Jesus-y or Buddhist-y or TM-y cults back in the 70s. Kind of stoned, almost. Woo woo. Everything is wonderful. So wonderful....

Her writing here kind sounds a lot like her talking there, to me, anyway.

I haven't heard Jingle talk enough or seen her write enough, ever, to know what that means, though. Whether it's just one of the ways she normally talks and writes or what. I do know that that "rebel" eye-rolling Jingle that I've heard about is nowhere to be found in the podcast or here.....

I don't find her very convincing in this mode, although when she was talking on the podcast I got the impression that she either believes the argle-bargle that was flowing from her or she at least very much prefers to believe it.

From little implicit statements here and there on the show I got the impression Jinger is one of the few truly spiritual Duggar kids. I feel she was at least one layer deeper than the concrete heaven/hell, good/bad blather, unlike Jill who I believe tries to walk the walk and talk the talk but doesn't have much more than a shallow understanding.

I'm guessing now that Jinger is with Jeremy she may have even more of an understanding of her beliefs. Not saying this is necessarily a good thing, because, well you know, their beliefs are all kinds of warped.

Long story short (although I didn't hear it) I think Jing believes the argle-bargle she was spewing.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right about that. She obviously was very fluent in the stuff she was saying.

I've just never heard her say more than a few words before, so I had zero basis for judgment.

I have to say, though, that the stuff she was saying was very very very cliched..... And exactly the same words that come out of all their mouths. The part of her comments that I heard (but it was only a small part, I expect. I didn't listen to more than about 10 minutes of the podcast -- so there could definitely be more and better in what she said....as long as Jer let her get a word in edgewise....) could have come right out of one of Meeechelle's repetitious birthday cards.

And because I've hung around a few people in my life who I consider truly spiritual in a deep way, I'm skeptical of putting the label of actual deep spirituality on somebody who just says the exact same cliched words that everybody in their group says.

The deep spirituality I believe I've heard from some others has not been cliched or rote or overgeneralized at all. It comes across as deep, often surprising, and very specific to the person and the situation.

So to me what I'm getting out of Jingle's recent comments are that she's quite sincere in the stuff she's saying. And she's got a strong emotional connection to it.

But it's also expressed entirely in trite, vague and general terms that we've heard a billion times. So it's not what I'd call actual deep spirituality......

However....by Duggar standards and Jingle's standards, it probably counts as spirituality and probably does put her at the top tier of the family in that regard (I wonder whether the purported attachment she had to Joe could have come partly from their sharing that ....I've always thought that it took some kind of spiritual aspirations to memorize the entire darn Book of Proverbs.)

So maybe Jingle is spiritual by nature but mired in a trite, silly version of it by nurture. Because what else does she know? She's been educated in spirituality by a bunch of grandstanding phony-baloneys (Gothard, anyone?) who wouldn't know real spirituality if they fell over it, I expect. Her family does NOT encourage looking deeply at anything. IN fact, it seems to me they actively discourage any and all deep looking or consideration. And they almost certainly wouldn't like profound spirituality if they ran across it, either.

If only....

Why do I feel my life won't be complete if some Duggarling does not -- sometime, somehow -- call out those two infernal creeps for their very real and very very crappy behavior toward their children?

I suppose it's because I don't believe in hell. Otherwise, I could just say, "JB and M, I can hardly wait to see what the Lord has in store for you!"

Not a fan of Jinger's outfit but Kendra looks cute. Joe looks like a complete mess.

I prefer Jinger’s outfit to Kendra’s. I am not a pink gal but I like the bright skirt with a coordinating print top. She probably wears wedges cause they are more comfy. Kendra’s dress is less flattering but that may be because she’s pregnant and not quite showing but didn’t want anything too tight.

Purely superficial, but I’m dying to makeover Joe!

Buzz the Charlie Brown head. Lose a few pounds. Get clothes that fit. Whiten the teeth. Get a little sun on the pasty skin.

He’s always been kinda cute (despite his odd, sad facial tics), but no healthy young man should look this dumpy.

I usually like Jeremy’s looks, but this is straight up doofus.

Religion is their brand and their product.  Filling their posts full of religion is no different from any other "social influencer" promoting their hair care products, clothes, etc.  They learned from JB and Mother of the Year how to exploit their children and religion to make a tidy profit

Makes me sick on every level, but they are carrying on a family tradition.

I'm not sure if I ever found Jinger any more "spiritual" than the rest of them, but the way she talked in the podcast is only normal for her when she's specifically talking about religion and spiritual matters. There's an old interview with  Michelle and the 4 oldest girls from way back--before any of them were married or courting, and I remember Jinger sounding just like that in the podcast. It was pretty striking because it's such a sharp contrast to how she talks and acts outside of that context.
