K-9 May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 Quote In the Season 7 finale, Claire needs to fire an employee but has a hard time finding the right moment to do it. Meanwhile, Phil believes he caught Luke in a compromising position; Jay mulls going back to work; Cameron's summer job in Kansas City complicates spending time with Lily; and Alex is home for the summer, though no one seems to notice. possibilities May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 I liked this one. I do wish they'd find something to do with Alex, though, other than just humiliate her. Ever since the episode where she went to therapy and sobbed in Claire's arms, I've been appalled that they basically changed nothing in how anybody treats her. Hey, Manny! You can adjust the speed required for a double click. 8 Link to comment
Artsda May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 All season Alex had been in school and has been popping in and out at home. But the family waited until school was over to ask what she was doing there? Bye Andy! I really hope Andy's gone. Seeing the family at the end all take off on their own trips without telling anyone but then just leaving messages was kind of sad. I guess with how isolated in scenes everyone has been this season has been, it fit I guess. 3 Link to comment

Nor are most extended families. All three trips were spontaneous. And the NYC and Juarez trips are likely long weekend trips. The Summer Farm Adventure is the only one that has a rather big impact, especially since they have an AirBnB-like rental upstairs. Maybe Pepper Saltzman will fill in. While not sad, it was a bit unrealistic that all three families have landline answering machines. We ditched answering machines and landlines a decade ago. But it wouldn't have really been all that funny/cute/clever to have them text each other or -- god forbid -- call actual cell numbers and chat up the family. Best part of the show was the departure of Twerpy Boy. He can stay away until the Series Finale episode. 5 Link to comment
Everleigh May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 Considering Alex was never really gone for long while she was at school and visited home regularly, I don’t exactly blame her family for not making a fuss over her officially coming home. But then again, given her family’s tendency to ignore and overlook her, I also understand why she’d get upset that they didn’t seem to care much and take it so personally. I’m over the joke of Alex being ignored by her family though. They’ve done a couple of episodes where they acknowledge the problem and the harm it's done to Alex's mental well-being, but yet her family never bothers to change and the problem persists. I feel like the writers have no idea what to do with Manny. I can’t even think of an actual story-line he was involved in this season, he’s just sort of around making snotty observations. Glad Andy’s gone. Just hope he stays gone. What 8 year old wants a perm? That was a weird. I admit I couldn’t understand half of what Joe was saying in his movie speech but that kid’s voice is adorable. I didn’t think was episode was particularly funny but it had some nice family moments so it was enjoyable enough. I liked seeing the Dunphys all taking a seat at the table together after each having a bad day, and Mitchell and Lily realizing how much Cam does for them and then surprising him at the airport. I did get a laugh out of the way Alex backed out of the room when she accidentally revealed that she wasn’t as innocent as Phil thought. And Phil yelling random cliches at Luke in anger was kind of funny too. And the stranger stealing Phil’s phone in NYC. 9 Link to comment

This is a tv comedy show, in this show what they've shown is a lot of group trips Hawaii, Australia, Vegas, Florida. Wyoming etc.. Family doing everything together. We've also seen this family glued to their iPhones and iPads, are we supposed to believe none of them sent off a text or tried to Facetime while at the airport, but they all called the houses and left messages on an answering machine? Claire who is work neurotic takes off without talking to Jay and just assumes Jay would cover for her at work, so it doesn't sound like a long weekend. This finale just goes with how the writing has segregated them all this season instead of interacting like they used to when the writing was great. Edited May 19, 2016 by Artsda 3 Link to comment
WhosThatGirl May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 I was kind of underwhelmed by this finale, compared to ones in the past. Which I do remember. Plus ABC was using lines from past finales to hype this one up, like when Gloria told us the viewers she was pregnant and when Phil told Cam and Mitch, 'you may kiss your husband' at their wedding. Even last years finale I remember because of the Phil ipad robot! Like.. I kept expecting something to happen. Something besides them all just deciding to randomly take trips for the summer or whatever. Kind of meh. It was a good, funny episode I guess. But I was expecting more. I guess sadly, there's not much to do right now, considering a lot has already happened in this show, there wasn't a milestone to make this finale about. Link to comment
DrSpaceman73 May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 I too was confused the the ALex story, was she gone? She was always at home during college. Can't blame the family. Don't care about andy, though I am sure that is not the end of him. Again, he comes and goes just as the show needs, they never use him consistently. However.....not sure why Haley doesn't just go to Utah. Is there really something keeping her there besides a job they never show her doing? That speech from Casablanca by Joe was cringeworthy, a bit creepy, too much "aww shucks" cuteness like you'd see on Full House from the Olsen twins, which is awful, in my opinion. Mitch can just pick up and leave his job for 3 months at a moments notice? Cam after a few years as a high school coach is getting a college assistant job, and just for the summer? Such a fantasy world these people live in most of the time. I know its TV, but they are still pushing it. 6 Link to comment
WhosThatGirl May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 I think Haley is also going to college, but yeah it's SUMMER, so she could spend summer in Utah. I bet Andy will be back. He's a guest star for now and the show has put quite some time into this romance, I doubt it's over. Link to comment

tennisgurl May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 These people take so many long weekends, and travel around so much! It seems like they randomly decide to take trips abroad or across the country at the spur of the moment on a bi weekly basis. Not a bad episode, but not one of their best finales. I think my favorite part was Phil doing his cliche speech, while his interview showed how baffled he was by the whole thing. 1 Link to comment
Snow Apple May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 What's with Luke and his nicknames for his sisters. Pumpkin? Kitten? Makes me cringe. I have to agree with everyone that I'm not sure why Alex think coming home for the summer is a big deal. She's there every week anyway. 4 Link to comment
readster May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 It was an ok finale, but I have to agree, there was no ground shaking changes or cliffhangers like the last few years. This episode did firmly show that they have no idea what to do with Manny. I can get Jay not getting the double click, but Manny not pointing out to change the settings so he can double click at his speed was too much. Of course, this is coming from someone who thought his iPhone frozen on porn would be handled better by taking it to the Apple Store instead of just doing a hard reset by pressing the home and lock screen button at the same time. Also, they have really pushed Manny's pompousness up big time this season. From the way he talks about Joe, how he drinks is coffees, how he plans these stupid ideas with Luke. Manny is about a step away from being thrown out a door and landing on his face. Speaking of Luke, I liked that they continued that Phil and Claire couldn't see Luke having a girl over and then Phil's reaction. However, after something like that and then the girl goes out of her way to sneak out and everything else and then dumps him? I guess Luke's tied tongue must have been the deal breaker. Ok! Enough with Alex being hated on by everyone, that is too much and then apparently she is still with Sanjay even though she had to take herself down to go to Prom with Rueben. Oh, that was too much. As for Mitch and Cam, so Cam couldn't do a surprise about the plane tickets on his own card or on an emergency credit card to keep the surprise? What happened when the bill statement came for Mitch? He was just going to go: "Oh, I guess I forgot about that." Or that he did Lily's perm, why didn't she go to a professional stylist? It was talked and implied, Cam screwed it up with leaving the curls in. Also, what 8 year old wants a perm? Least with Claire and Jay's stories, they made plenty of sense, but the warehouse guy she was firing, I'm surprised he lasted that long, especially after he admitted about screwing up so much. Yet, he basically defended Claire on how the rest of the company sees her and treats her. Glad they finally all shaped up, but how Haley just unplugged the dance game and didn't even notice she did. That was too flakey even for Haley. Bye Andy, I won't miss you, even if I know I will see you on and off next season. 3 Link to comment
Snow Apple May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 I can understand a little girl with straight hair wanting curly hair (and vice versa), but a perm? I don't remember the last time I saw a home kit in stores, but then I haven't looked. 1 Link to comment

readster May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 Something else about Haley unplugging the game machine and it not saving. No! That's not how it works. Once the game is over, it saves very fast. This isn't 1981 where you had wait a few moments before it stored the high scores. There is no way the game would magically go back to the previous high score like that or go down to zero. Not how modern game systems work. You have to reset the memory board and you can't do that without a code or game resetter. Those are used by the companies who house the games. Since I'm sure the Closet Company has the game under a lease form so that when they are tired of the dance game they can get a new one or have it switched out if it fails. There is no way that Haley magically unplugging it with her foot and still moving without missing a beat would happen. Here is something else I noticed about Cam making all those meals to be cooked and used. When did he do all of this and not have Mitchum or Lily see it? Plus, Manny said he lost all the saved movies because of Joe's shows. Umm... that was a favorites bar, not saved movies in digital form. You can have several favorites or recently watched movies and be fine. These writers don't get how tech works these days and then act like its funny if you really, really suspend belief. Like Manny not fixing the double click settings on the iPad. 1 Link to comment

Shermie May 19, 2016 Share May 19, 2016 This show just leaves me asking questions... Why would Jay, the former CEO, be given photocopying to do? And why doesn't Claire have an executive assistant to do that? Isn't this a million dollar company? Why would Alex expect a weekend long celebration because she's home from school, when she's been coming home all year? Why would she expect any kind of positive acknowledgment from her asshole family? Why would Luke have a girl in his bed in the middle of the night? Isn't that just, odd? Wouldn't her parents wonder where she was? (I'm not naive, but it seemed like a reach.) What does Haley do? Why couldn't Jay, who ran a company and does have a smartphone, understand how to double click? Another reach. Why was Cam wearing that stupid bib overall and straw hat? STOP FUCKING DOING THAT, HOLLYWOOD! Farmers don't wear that shit. And even if they did, why would you wear it to visiti them? I don't wear a sombrero if I go to Mexico (or insert whatever lame or offensive stereotype you want). Why must Gloria always be so snarly and scheming? It's offensive and lame. Why would she wait until mere days before the event before telling Jay about a family wedding in another country? Was she taking the kids? Was she leaving them for Jay to mind? He's been gone 6 months at most, not 10 years and why does he keep calling Manny to bail him out? Manny was being just as a moron than him. 2. That was really odd. Alex would know better. In fact everyone was acting extremely like idiots in this episode. 3. I thought that was weird too. 4. I keep asking myself the same question. Especially when her boss is missing more braincells than everyone else in this episode. 5. He also has an Apple Watch and get's notifications and he can't get double click? 6. Cam has always done that and at this point, its as stupid as Fisbo showing up. 7. I know. Especially when the last few years, they keep stealing things or doing something so bad she has to kick them out. At this point in time, I just say: "Screw you, you always screw me over and I'm not getting killed in the process." Gloria gives her family so many passes and then turns around and kicks them to the curb. Just leave them be. Like Manny should do with is dad. 8. Eolivet May 20, 2016 Share May 20, 2016 (edited) Joe reciting Casablanca was maybe the first time I've ever liked the kid. I'm one of the few who likes Haley/Andy, but this was good, realism-wise. Him going missing for several months and then reappearing as though nothing had happened, never made any sense. I hated the Luke plot. To use one of Phil's cliches, I'm no prude, but I don't think a teenage boy having sex under his parents' roof is the stuff of comedy. I think it's gross and really disrespectful. Oh would you look at that -- I am a prude! For the first time in a while, the Cam/Mitch story was my favorite. Claire mentioned that she was about to make copies, and Jay offered to do it, just to prove that he was still useful. And Haley works for a fashion industry douchebag. And she mentioned at one point that she was making money by putting photos of herself on social media, and getting a commission when her followers bought the clothes she was wearing. (It isn't clear if she's still doing that, though.) Those are the only questions I can answer. The thing with Cam dressing like an old-timey farmer so that he'd fit in on a flight to Missouri was ridiculous. DrSpaceman73 May 20, 2016 Share May 20, 2016 I do remember that Haley supposedly works for the fashion industry guy. The problem is they only make mention of her job like 2 or 3 times the entire season, when its convenient for the plot. Otherwise they just ignore it and leave it out. Its the same problem there has always been with the show, though. As funny as the show is, they all seem to live in a fantasy world with unlimited free time, despite having jobs, and unlimited money in one of the most expensive areas in the entire country. 2 Link to comment

They would be in trouble as a couple if they always had to scheme to get the other to do what they want. What the heck do Gloria and Jay have in common at this point? Do they ever enjoy doing things together? One of this shows less endearing qualities is it relies on a lot of offensive stereotypes. Columbia (and now Mexico) are always painted as crime infested stink holes where people beat laundry on a rock. Missouri is always represented as some cultural wasteland where biscuit throwing competitions are a big deal. The writers probably do it for the easy jokes and to put Cam in another ridiculous outfit. 16 hours ago, WhosThatGirl said: Like I said earlier, it was a meh finale. EVS May 21, 2016 Share May 21, 2016 (edited) Last summer, I got a flat tire while driving through Missouri farm country. I was somewhere between two small towns with populations of about 500 each. Fwiw, neither one of the kind local gentlemen who helped me change my tire was dressed like Old McDonald. Cam is so dramatic, I wonder if he exaggerates his country upbringing. I can't remember if his mother and sister were country stereotypes. I don't recall his mother being dressed like Minnie Pearl. Edited May 21, 2016 by EVS Clarity 2 Link to comment
MaryMitch May 21, 2016 Share May 21, 2016 Maybe it depends on the job the farmer is doing at the time. I see a LOT of local farmers wearing overalls. Link to comment

That true, but usually not to ride a plane to go to a temporary college football job. The show loves to act like there is no sophistication and culture anywhere outside of California, again probably for the easy jokes. 3 Link to comment
needschocolate May 21, 2016 Share May 21, 2016 It would have made more sense, and been funnier too, IMO, if Mitch and Lily showed up at the airport (or showed up to go to the ariport - I forget where Cam found out they were coming with him) wearing overalls and straw hats while Cam is in his regular clothes and he could make a comment on how people don't dress that way. 6 Link to comment
Silly Angel May 21, 2016 Share May 21, 2016 I didn't like Gloria getting pregnant; I didn't like any of the we're-having-a-baby plots; and I hate hate hate the sassy, quippy young Joe we ended up with. It's like '80s sitcom level of snotty post-toddler. We already have dat bitch Lily to listen to treating her dads like pathetic buffoons. I can't even envision how far into next week I would have been smacked if I'd taken that tone with/talked that way to my parents. Little Joe can get shipped of to Switzerland posthaste. 1 Link to comment
CofCinci May 22, 2016 Share May 22, 2016 I had no idea this was a season finale episode until I read the comments here. What a dull episode. Filler episode. Why not a continuation of last week's trip to the wedding?! 4 Link to comment
