The recently deceased Mr. Liotta was adopted as a baby and raised by Italian-American parents & always identified himself as having that heritage. However, he did locate (and meet) his bio mother about 20 years ago and learned from her that his biological lineage was mainly Scottish!

I know Hannibal gets a lot of crap as an inferior extension of the Lecter  story , but I always thought it was a good movie-- yes, not as good as the original, but still. And Liotta plays a great kind of an ass and I always thought the ending, and what Hannibal does to him, was more funny than scary, and Ray does a great job in that scene.

Does anyone ( besides me ) remember the CBS show he did called "Smith " ? He played a professional thief. I really liked the show, but CBS cancelled it after just a few episodes.

He had a lot of great roles, too bad he passed as the news said he was working quite a lot recently.

Actor Bo Hopkins who appeared in such films as The Wild Bunch and American Graffiti has died, age 80.

I didn't know him by name, but as soon as I saw his face I recognized him from a lot of '70s and '80s TV.  When I saw Hillbilly Elegy, it took me a while to figure out where I knew him from, as I hadn't seen him in a long time, but once the image of his younger self clicked it was one of those "oh yeah, that guy" moments.  He seemed to be everywhere for a while.

I remember him best as Matthew Blaisdel in the original Dynasty.

Bo Hopkins was fantastic in The Wild Bunch. He has a small part but is very memorably disturbing in a film full of memorably disturbing characters. I read a book about the making of the movie last year and learned that not only did he film his scenes despite being injured in the eyelid by a squib, but he also ended up staying up the night before his filming day with Dub Taylor learning the words to "Gather At The River" because he didn't know the lyrics he makes his captives sing.

On the ABC news ticker it had, "Bo Haskins" so I wasn't sure who they were talking about. I remember Bo from a couple of Charlie's Angels episodes including the pilot. And of course, Dynasty.

I just caught Field of Dreams on AMC last week. Ray Liotta was perfect as Shoeless Joe Jackson. He was great in everything I saw him in, including more obscure films and TV shows like John Q with Denzel Washington and NBC's Shades of Blue with Jennifer Lopez. I even liked the Chantix commercials he did a few years back.

As others have mentioned, the role that first put him on the map was that of Joey Perrini on the long-defunct NBC soap opera Another World, which taped in NYC. He was on the show from 1978 to 1981, at which point he relocated to LA. What was really nice is that even after he became famous, he never lost touch with his soap roots. He divulged in an interview I read years back that he did a talk show spot in the CBS building in NYC to promote one of his movies. Once the spot was done, he went off in search of As the World Turns actress Kathleen Widdoes - who had played his mother on AW - to say hi. Unfortunately, she had the day off. Victoria Wyndham, who became the longest-running performer on AW, recalled to Soap Opera Digest that one day she heard someone calling her name on the streets of NYC. It turned out to be none other than Ray Liotta, in town visiting long after he had achieved movie fame. He wanted to catch up on all things AW with Ms. Wyndham.

Here is Ray Liotta in his first big role:

I didn't know that. That's wonderful. I love when actors don't forget they started on soaps.  I loved him in Field of Dreams and Heartbreakers.

I liked that Mr. Siebert as Dr. Stanley Riverside II actually grew from being a totally incompetent joke/foil for the other docs in Trapper John,M.D who ONLY had the hospital administration position due to being his  unseen big wig dad's hapless heir to actually becoming a likable person who became sincere about wanting the best care possible for the patients even if it meant defying his overwhelming   father  and finding genuine love and happiness somewhat late in life via his marriage to a dentist named E.J.! Oh, but he still maintained his goofiness.  I don't know how much of that was Mr. Siebert's actual personality being acknowledged by the writers or the writers expanding his character for their own purposes but I like how he wound up being the most interesting and likable of all the regulars by the time the series ended.

RIP, Mr. Siebert!

"We May Never Pass This Way Again" was our high school senior prom theme (or maybe it was our graduation them - one of those...it was a loooong time ago).  RIP and thanks for the (vague) memories.

I listen to Seals & Crofts' Summer Breeze every - well - summer. It's such a mellow vibe with wonderful harmony, especially when they sing "mind". R.I.P. Jim Seals.

Philip Baker Hall was just a brilliant character actor. He was one of my all time favorite actors to play Richard Nixon, and while I've never been a Seinfeld fan, this moment of his is classic. RIP, Mr. Hall, you were always a star to me.

I don't think I have ever watched that episode after becoming a librarian.  I felt contractually obligated to watch it at work.  I was in a zoom meeting last week where I had to summarize this episode, but I forgot Bookman's whole spiel about the little boy sitting down to read a library book filled with extra illustrations.  I just remembered the character being in an episode and the book in question (that George stole) was Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer.

RIP Bookman.
