As much as I hate another young woman being murdered, especially one studying medicine, HE's decision to leave the show was a gift because it made the story much fresher with Kiki and Ava instead of Felicia who was barely on the show and wouldn't have slept with "Kevin". Nor did she have a daughter for Kevin to kill since Felicia had already lost Georgie.

Yeah, especially since that's how Felicia's youngest daughter was killed in pretty much that exact same way (I'll just ignore Maxie's abandonment BS towards Felicia during her eulogy, though, blech).

I would say that Nina is tied into the canvas through Maxie. Obrecht is not a major character. If Maxie left it wouldn't be a big deal at this point because most of the characters she was connected with have been written off (same with a lot of people left on this show . . . Liz and Anna for example). Not that I think they should have had Ryan kill off Maxie, but I don't think anyone is that major on the show now.

Lost in the preemption was Dr. Kim having a very nice moment with Julian, apologizing for being a Slagbeast and getting upset he didn't get back into the mob (after all those times she held him at arm's length that every comment he made meant he was going back into the mob).

 

Sasha wants to high-tail it out of there, but Valentin is cop-blocking and lawyer-blocking her from leaving. Look for her to be the next Ryan victim.

I don't know. Would Valentin then have to tell Nina that Sasha wasn't her coma baby? That's not going to help his cause to get her back, but I also can't see him wanting to watch Nina be in so much pain, even if he can cynically and opportunistically help her while she's grieving.

Also, aside from Valentin and Nina, who would care if Sasha bit it? At least Lauren had connections to more than two people.

Have they explained a) how Ryan survived, b) how long Kevin's had him, and c) how he's either dropped Felicia or fixated on Ava? I saw the bit with Ava finding out about Kiki and Dr. Must Be Fired didn't seem remotely surprised to find married man "Kevin" in Ava's apartment.

The closest we've come is Scotty telling Laura that Kevin's marriage to Lucy was damaged because he kept running off to see a patient in the Northwest. That's a good way to retrofit a story they never fleshed out.

It was in 2010 or 2011, all three ABC soaps showed "classic" episodes one Wednesday a month that were supposed to reflect current stories or something, but it was a cost-cutting measure pure and simple.  It was an experiment that, IIRC, didn't last too long.

Frank may not be perfect, but he keeps things in budget and on schedule, which is his job. I don't think we'll do better for an EP.

I'm not asking for perfect, I'm asking for decent.  He has been a total failure.  Other than keeping a budget, he has let his actors dictate and run amok for the last year and its hurt storylines.   The show is a disaster ratings wise and he keeps pushing the same crap.

I question how good he is with the budget too. He spent thousands of dollars so Valentin could sing a Billy Joel song at the Nurses Ball. I know he gets a sponsor for the ball, but that still seems like a dumb decision to me.

He has Maurice, which is probably the only one that matters. Maurice imo helped get Ron fired 4 years ago, yet FV survived that and keeps surviving even though the show is worse than when Ron was involved.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Nurses Ball money had to be spent for the Nurses Ball, though. I don't disagree there are better ways to spend that dough in that context, but it's reasonable that the sponsors don't want it used elsewhere.

It's really something. Props to TBTB at CBS for fixing something that wasn't working. I don't think anything will unseat Frank. ABC doesn't care.

I've been reading for months that the Y&R fans are fed up with Mal, they think he's the worst thing to happen to the show. They should try being a GH fan. Now that's bad. I've watched Y&R some in recent months because General Hospital is so unwatchable and I didn't think it was so bad. Compared to GH its a masterpiece. 

I see one of the biggest pet peeves for fans is the Rosales family. I like them. I like that they've been introduced as a family unit since the foundation of soaps are families. On GH we've gotten just as much disproportionate focus on Frank's newbies but they're all disconnected randos. I agree that for new characters the Rosales' have had maybe too much focus right off the bat but I'd trade them for Nina, Franco, Dr. Michael Easton, Parking lot Peter, and Kim in a heartbeat.

The difference between CBS and ABC is that CBS has larger problems with all the stuff that's coming out about Les Moonves. I read that Mal Young was one of his cronies sometime ago and that bts is completely toxic.
