The Duggars: In the Media and TLC

Guest

As a reminder, the site's Politics Policy remains in effect.  Yes, Jim Bob is apparently running for office again. That does not make it an acceptable topic of conversation in here - unless for some mysterious reason, TLC brings the show back and it is discussed on there. Even then, it would be limited to how it was discussed on the show.

If you have any questions, please PM the mods, @SCARLETT45 and myself.

I wouldn't be surprised if Josh was asking to be paid for spitting on the sidewalk..... Or any other Duggar either.

But he's already spit on all of them--that's why they're in the mess they're in now.

There were 37 million men and women "outed" from Ashley Madison and yet it seems Josh Duggar is the only "celebrity" worthy of mention?

I think he is just the funniest one!

Speaking of the Palins-

In an old photo of Josh, Sarah and Bristol, Josh has his arm around Sarah- his hand rests at  the side of her breast (on the bra line)

Interesting to see with info we know now!

https://plus.google.com/+GinnyGibbs/posts/Bb1FuytSthY

That is his gentle side hug nature- all the while copping a sly feel from mama Palin.  #JOSHDUGGARLOVESMILFS

What Josh's subscriptions represent is the number of "wanna[*]?"s he sent while he was on their site.

Oh my god, it just gets funnier and funnier. What an absolute pig.

True. Very good point.

I wrote unclearly, though. What I meant to say is that I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Josh or any other Duggar had demanded payment for anything at all, even spitting on a sidewalk. Because I get the feeling that that's how entitled -- and greedy for money, desperate for cash -- that Josh in particular but also Duggars in general have become.

I kind of think he would only be interested in sex with women. I suspect sex is a lot about power for Josh and a lot about treating somebody else like an object who isn't capable of independent activity. After all, he thinks there are times that someone would be obliged to have sex with him. I can see him thinking that about any woman, but I can't see him thinking it about a man. Lording stuff over women could be a way for a man like Josh to feel big in a world where he might actually suspect that other men don't see him as that important.

I firmly believe that the reason Josh and people like him hate and fear teh gai as much as they do is tied up with that idea he has stuck in his head that if a man wants to have sex with you, you don't have a say in the matter, and everybody knows it's all your fault anyway. And imagine how he'd react to the idea that someone born with a penis can lose the privilege implicit in a Y chromosome by being identified as a woman? I'm pretty sure Michelle thinks that being a transwoman is all a scam to smuggle penii into pink bathrooms, but it's Josh's worst nightmare.

That's a really great observation. What a lot of crap there is in their haunted little brains. Dumb-asses.

Please do not post links where pornographic or distasteful pictures are shown. This is definitely against the rules, so in other words, use common sense and double check what the link will be showing before posting. Posts with links leading to porn and other distasteful pictures will be hidden in the future. Thank you.

I can't seem to copy a link here, but People.com has a new article in which the Duggars praise themselves for their uncompromising adherence to Godly values. All but 'cept for Josh, of course.

That article was all quotes from the molestation scandal (from JB and Mechelle...Mechelle was actually out of town this week at the mother/daughter ATI gig with Jana and Jinger). There were also some quotes from one of their books. People doesn't have anything new and hopes that no one notices what I caught.

I'm surprised Jana, Jinger, and Michelle actually attended the ATI conference. That had to be awkward once word started spread since the conference started on Wednesday. At least Jana and Jinger were away when everything went down or did they take a flight out? I wonder who is taking care of the littles if Jana and Jinger were out of town and Joy is with Jill/Derick?

OT (or not) that pic of the Palins with Joshie - is it just me or does Sarah look just like The Church Lady?

Horn rims are an unusual style for her, she usual wears rimless square frames. They look a little Dame Edna to me.

This sure would blow Jim Bob and Michelle's mind...what is it is reported that Josh Duggar had been soliciting sex with males too?

This has crossed my mind for the past few days as well. Is there anything that could be bigger news? Only one thing I believe, that Josh's affairs didn't involve women at all. I've been getting a "Methinks-he-doth-protest-too-much..." vibe from this family for years. Usually I brush it off to an over-active imagination [i'm a Cancer]. But now I'm really wondering if I could have guessed correctly? Time will tell, I guess.

Two things stood out from this puff piece...first, they claim they're NOT part of the "Quiverfull" movement?

Second, great typo at the end here...

"Even though we would never choose to go through something so terrible, each one of our family members drew closer to God," Jim Bob and Michelle said in statement following the child molestation scandal. "We pray that as a people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles everyday. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God's kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us – even though we are so underserving."

Yes, honey, you two in particular are underserving. Your daughters however, are working their asses off.

'By creating relationship and courtship rules, teaching the importance of modesty and implementing the the significance of living a life through Christ, Jim Bob and Michelle continue to instill these teachings to their children – both younger and older – to this day.

'"Our entire lives, we've worked toward this, prayed about it, and encouraged our children to really just focus on becoming the person that God wants them to be," the couple wrote on their family site. "We've always urged our children to wait for the one that God has for them, and not to make compromises in their life in any way."'

How can the frigging hacks at People write this shit without wanting to go out and throw themselves off a cliff? Clearly the Duggars did not "instill" any such teachings into their ridiculous throng. To prove that, we have not only the evidence of Josh but the clear evidence that neither Jessa nor Jill "waited" for "the one that God has for them." Both threw themselves into promising marriage pretty much instantly the first time a male was presented to them -- Jill declaring mad love before she'd ever met the guy that God -- aka Jim Bob -- presented and Jessa committing herself to the pretty much ironclad "courtship leads to marriage" state at a time when she clearly was thinking "ewww" every time she looked at Ben. If she wasn't "compromising" early in that "courtship" I don't know what the hell she was doing. Meanwhile, Josh's recent actions have shown clearly that he "compromised" big time when he took Anna, since he doesn't give a crap for her. And in what way was he "waiting" when as a 14-year-old he entertained himself at night by feeling up whatever girls -- and I do mean girls -- were handy, even if they were his own baby sisters.

We know that the Duggars continue to spew all this crap, and always will, but the content and tone of the People-written paragraphs absolutely disgust me. I'd like to see and smack the writers who draw paychecks for producing this bullshit that they have to know is swallowed as inspiring, aspirational truth by some of the leghumping thousands who want to believe the Duggar branding. And the Duggar branding is not just wrong but dangerous to children and other living things.

They are "baffled and devastated". I know the feeling. I am baffled (not devastated though, because, well TV...etc.) as to how they could set about raising 19 little freaks and not foresee that something like this could happen. They are ignorant fools. Obsessed with sex, way too interested in the sex lives (or lack thereof) of these children. They sit in their house, isolated from anyone who is educated and self aware, praying to a mythical being for "salvation". Idiots! We may need to wait a few years but one of those kids is bound to write a tell all and that will be our pay off.

Just for clarification: There's no specific evidence that he actually cheated, right?

If they think that the porn addiction was considered cheating, then yes in the Duggar eyes he did cheat. To make the the Ok Cupid and pay for AM, there was an attempt to want to cheat.

Since when have they distanced themselves for Quiverfull? I only know about Quiverfull because of the Duggars. Now they say they were never a part of that movement?

I think they've disavowed that connection more than once. I guess it's the same way they've very seldom mentioned Gothard-related enterprises on the show or in their public rantings, particularly as years have gone by. Both are fact -- and in fact at the heart of their crazy behavior -- but they'd damage their ability to make being Duggarific a true national brand with mainstream appeal. Liars for the sake of the almighty dollar, the lot of them.

Weren't they never officially QuiverFull, but they had the biblical passage which is used as the basis for the QuiverFull movement on the front page of their website, along with limks to blanket training information? There have been rumblings for years from more overtly extreme evangelicals that the Duggars have very much candy coated their views for a secular audience.

Yeah, I think you're right about the never-officially-Quiverfull thing. I wonder if Jim Bob's political ambitions didn't precede their tv ambitions as a big impetus for not making their links to that movement official. They walked like a duck and quacked like a duck but called themselves a goose, so the always kinda skeery term "Quiverfull" couldn't be attached securely enough to dim Dim Bulb's chances.

That entire People article was a total rehash of various Duggar interviews and books they've produced in the past.  Not a single word of it contained anything exclusive and most of  was pre-scandal; which implies to me that People doesn't have any major financial ties to the Duggars.  If they did, they'd be proclaiming their access to exclusive content and interviews, along with recent photos.  In light of their current lack of income, I find hard to believe that JB, Mechelle, Jessa and Ben, Jill and Derrick, at the very least; haven't tried to shop around a BS interview.  I hope this means that times have changed and either People won't meet their price or won't allow JB to control the content or give him the right to censor or refuse to answer any questions that are posed.  At this point, I don't see how any publication appealing to the general public could possibly allow the Duggars to control the message anymore.  Even this article, a bunch of strung together quotes, showcases the hypocrisy of the family which is not the message the Duggars would want to send.

Churchhoney said it best: liars for the sake of the almighty dollar. We've seen the Duggars and Kate G lie for the money. I assume that's the way it is with reality television.

With parents showing by their fine example of hypocrisy the kids don't stand a chance.

What makes one "officially" Quiverful?  I don't believe there is an organization to send a check to, like ATI has.

Useage of the quote to describe a reasoning for so many children, as well as linking to Quiverful webpages from their website (which have been removed over the years) is enough for me.

They are strange people though. We don't know what he means when he says unfaithful.  It could be thoughts alone.

I think that may be why they edited his statement. His first statement listed the porn and the adultery as two different issues. It was edited to only talk about unfaithfulness, which can be spun to be spiritual only. If they were smart enough to listen to a lawyer, that lawyer would have told them that's not the kind of ammunition Josh wants Anna to have. Of course, we're talking about people who don't seem to realize that there's not a lot of point in deleting things after national publications have a copy of them, so who knows.

Oh, I personally believe he cheated.

But we don't KNOW that.

Does AM's affair guarantee mean sex? Or could it be an emotional affair? Perhaps they just guarantee the date and sealing the deal is up to you.  Do we know he didn't get the money back?

In light of Josh Duggar's most recent scandal (the former family values counselor admitted on Thursday to having a porn addiction and cheating on his wife Anna following reports that he had used an infidelity website), his actions are completely at odds with the strict rules and values espoused by the Duggar family.

Srs bzns, people. The third time you get caught groping your underaged sisters' genitals in that household, you are _so_ slapped on the wrist.

A lot of conservative Christian complementarians have tipped their hand here and essentially admitted that a big part of the reason they don't approve of same-sex marriage is because it throws their own complementarian ideals out the window. Marriage to them is supposed to have the man as the leader and the wife as his submissive helpmeet. But what happens when we're talking about two guys or two girls? Who submits to whom?? Are they - god forbid - egalitarian??? It's enough to make a complementarian's head do a 360 spin.

That old line about homophobia being linked to misogyny is truer than we know...

I'm pretty sure from the comments from AM subscribers that no one on there is looking for an "emotional" affair.   It seems to me that one can have an emotional affair anywhere.   He was also on OK Cupid.   Not an emotional kind of hook-up place.    If he thinks he had an affair, that's good enough for me.   But without pictures, you're right-it's not entirely verified.  I just think another really big shoe is fixin' to drop.

Wow, that Duggar report is amazing.   And pretty easily verified.   These people are without shame.   How dare they tell other people how to live.

Of course they are aren't looking for one- but AM wants money. So I'm wondering what the company words their guarantee as. Can they really guarantee sex legally? Isn't that basically prostitution?

Doing some googling it says "affair partner". I think AM has themselves covered that it's up to you to seal the deal.

It makes sense except then where did Jim Bob get the quarter million to run for Congress? I think most churches would, at least, have said, "You have money to run for Congress, support your family. Get out of our house and give us back the bus."

Somebody a while ago speculated that the money may have come from Boob's parents. That seems like a possibility to me.

I can also see Jim Bob completely blowing off a church request to return stuff, saying yeah, yeah, he'd return stuff, just not now, and he'd gladly pay them Tuesday for a hamburger today. He may also have made some self-righteous speeches about how, if they wanted a member of the Senate who would fight for their values, then they'd better be supportive of his very godly run. I mean, you're a church -- How mean are you going to be in strong-arming some family with double-digit numbers of young kids and a constantly pregnant, harried-looking mom just to get back your broken-down house and vehicle? I'm not sure how you'd get the Duggars out of a house they didn't want to leave, in any case. A church isn't going to send armed marshals, especially if they don't know whether the family actually has another place to go, given how their father is choosing to spend his money.

Who knows, though. Where the Senate money came from really is a mystery, I think.

The sound guys last name is Goodwin.

The house next to the church is strange. Michelle's dad (or brother) sold that house to JimChelle in 1992, and they sold it to the church in 2001. The house was demolished at some point since, and the land is currently undeveloped. Would the local baptist church go that far for JimBob?

Which one of these people do y'all think will be the first to grant that exclusive interview? I'm not talking about bullshit Meghan Kelly. I'm talking about the real heavy hitters, Oprah, Barbara Walters or Diane Sawyer. I'll throw in Matt Lauer for good measure. My money is on Josh on NBC with Matt Lauer. He's frequented the Today Show enough that he may think he's developed a rapport. He may also identify with Lauer who dealt with his own (alleged) cheating scandal and is someone who I find to be his own special kind of smug bastard. But Josh is going to have to stifle all smugness and really bring the repentance full force. I'm talking 100% Jimmy Swaggart "I have sinned!" fountain tears.

Regarding the mystery of the senate money those years ago, there is always a paper trail if done legally. Once again, Jim Bob has failed to give any specific answers about anything or has he been asked any follow up questions regarding his statements by the TLC producers in those TH segments. I fail to see why.

Also, I find of offensive of his parents, if that money came from them to run for office, that Grandma and Grandpa Duggar would have let them suck off a local church for their very basic needs. If they have $250,000 in cash to give their son for a campaign, you know they had much more than that in their bank accounts...in doing so, that let out some truly needy families in their town from some much needed help from their church too...The Duggars hoarded their church's assets, funds, and food bank stock. Children in the area went hungry because of them. Shame, Shame, Shame... in the words of Gomer Pyle. (on Grandma too).
