And one for Uber Eats where a guy arrives to a BBQ with a bag of what I assume are outdoor cooking-related groceries.  Why does he respond to the host’s outstretched hand by very slowly genuflecting and kissing his fingertips?  I assume it’s an attempt at humor, but it far misses the mark with me.

It's the ridiculous premise that to remember something (whatever is in the bag) you forget something, like how to shake hands.  I hate this line of commercials, they are so dumb.

Yes, it is stupid.

I think I had the same expression as that kid in the commercial did for this one.

Callback to Seinfeld "The Voice" episode? Jerry anthropomorphizes his GF's belly button with a ridiculous voice. She finds out and breaks it off. Sorry, spoiler alert 🙂

Why did he forget?

Because he found out that the delivery service delivers more than just food and apparently whenever people add new information like that to their brains, they forget something else they used to know.  That's the whole premise of the ad campaign.  Whether it's an effective one is a whole nother matter.

My husband asked if people were commenting on the Bluechew commercials. He rolls his eyes when they come on. I haven't seen any comments. All I think of is the casting call: Only young women with ginormous boobs and big pouty lips need apply. 🤣

It's on all the time on certain channels & I just ignore it, why, because it's so bad.

It's one of those ads that if you aren't paying attention it's sort of uncertain just what they are hawking.  At least the Viagra for $0.87 is clear.

It works better as a sitcom plot, like on Married With Children in which after cramming for a final exam, Kelly forgets how to open doors.

I assumed they were for "boner pills" so I ignored them.

Well, yes. That seemed obvious. It's the physical characteristics (big boobs and pouty lips) of the women in the commercials that makes me scratch my head. Between Bluechew and Honeylove bras, advertisers seem to think women shoving their boobs in my face is the way to go. 🤷‍♀️

Why is Lady Gaga moonlighting as a photographer?  Does she need the money?

The 'pretending-to-be-a-photog' angle is so weird in this ad that just the other day my husband says to me, "this commercial keeps acting like I am supposed to know who that is," this coming from a guy who knows exactly what Lady Gaga looks like but thinking he was supposed to be recognizing the next Annie Leibovitz or something.  When I told him who it was he was left even more confused.  😂

Maybe someone can explain this to me, because I don't know that I've ever SEEN the commercial as much as heard it while doing something else...In the Sotyktu (drug for plaque psoriasis)  commercial they say something like "you won't have to hide your skin anymore, just your background" WTH do they mean by this? Do sufferers of plaque psoriasis generally have sketchy pasts?

  • LOL 5

No, it's some guy on a conference call, and his background is a bookshelf. Then he finishes the call and he immediately starts off on a bike ride with his buddies. So it's his zoom call background they are talking about. Apparently he was doing the call outside on a park bench or something. What it has to do with plaque psoriasis? I have no idea.

There's a commercial for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital that uses the song "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri. The lyrics we hear are "I have died every day waiting for you/Darling, don't be afraid/I have loved you for a thousand years/I'll love you for a thousand more." I am not quite sure why someone thought this would be an appropriate song for a St. Jude's ad. From what I understand this song is from one of the "Twilight" movies.

I recently saw a commercial for apartments.com with Jeff Goldblum and realized that I'm probably the last person on the planet to realize their logo is the same shape, albeit a different color (green), as the logo for homes.com. Both companies are owned by real estate company CoStar Group, which owns both sites. CoStar Group spent $35 million for Super Bowl ads this year.

There’s an ad for Cox internet that says you can download your voice to your dad’s gps in no time flat. Really? Can someone give me a step-by-step on that? Also, does anyone actually use a gps, as opposed to a maps app on your phone or car?

You can record a voice in Waze as well. My friend's brother and nephew did that to her waze, and we didn't know that until we turned it on.  We BOL.  So Cox isn't the first to do that, 😉

Oh so that's actually something you can do?!  What threw me in the Cox ad was that the little girl was recording phrases like "in 300 feet turn left".  It seemed unlikely that she could possibly record everything the gps could ever need to "say".  But maybe if they have an actual process where it has you record sample phrases then it AI's them into the voice, maybe...

This sounds freaky as hell.  I for sure would be looking around for my daughter if I suddenly heard her giving directions.

These have always been a head-scratcher for me with an actor playing the fictional CEO/founder of a real company. They’ve been doing this for plenty of iterations, so it must be effective, but I just find it kinda dumb.

What's with the Safelite car window repair bit with the two frenetic guys? They say the first part of the catch phrase and when the worker says the other part, they both shriek with delight as if this is the most exciting thing they've ever experienced. Is it really a feat for the guy to know the slogan of the company he works for?

Aiming for the TikTok crowd, I'm guessing.

In the radio/online commercials for Fred Meyer stores, they are playing "It's Your Thing" by the Isley Brothers in the background.  I suppose that it is nice that they are open-minded enough that they can't tell me who to sock it to, but I don't really think that is their business anyway!  (At first I thought they were just playing the "it's your thing" title to sort of say they have a lot of choices at their stores, but they left it playing for the "sock it to" line.)

This one has been puzzling me for a while now. The guy says he had a bad accident when he hit a bear. Then says "When I got my settlement I found out about gold as an investment"...or some such words...and it goes into an ad for owning/buying gold. My question is who did he settle with?? The bear? The bear's attorney???? Whaaaaat???? Who is there to settle with when you hit a wild animal on the road????

I'm not sure what the "TikTok crowd" is, but I'm guessing they're not too concerned about Safelite.
