Thoughts after the first episode:

  • A fight about cheese? In episode 1???? Y'all got to build up at least one season of goodwill before centering an episode around an argument that stupid.
  • I was taken aback by how Jessel spoke to and about both her husband and her mother. If that's the level of respect she shows them when cameras are around, I can only imagine how much worse it is without.
  • Based on that and him dipping out to Vietnam in the previews, I'm guessing that this one is going to be the first marriage domino to fall.
  • Erin is in for a rude awakening, I think, because the vibe I get after this episode is that she thinks she's a Bethany (boss bitch with wit) when she's actually a Ramona (needlessly aggressive, zero awareness of how she comes across).
  • This episode was Eh, but I'll give it a few weeks to find a groove. I'm sure the fact that they started filming then lost a cast member and had to edit out all references to her added a degree of difficulty to developing a rhythm for the series, so I'm not going to judge the first episode too harshly.

I have read that the reason the first episode seems to not gradually introduce the housewives is because they had to scrap any footage which had Lizzy in it after she was fired or quit.

So what we are seeing would be more like a third episode and we probably would have seen the competing dinners and other standard introductory footage that would have included Lizzy.

I liked it! I don't need huge fights and drama, give me a low stakes cheese fight that really means nothing but gets these ladies into a fabulous closet to try on Valentino and shoes!

I really like Jenna, she has Money, Honey!!!

Liked Brynn she is fun as is Ubah. Erin is part of the tribe so I like her and the Shabbat dinner, more of that please!!

Jessel is done with her husband, that should be interesting to watch.

No opinion on Sai and if I forgot anyone, too bad.

This is a very interesting snapshot of how the world has evolved over 13 years. We went from women who had either no jobs/married well or worked selling actual tangible objects. Now we have a group of women who are influencers, selling the idea of actual objects.

This was better than I thought it would be, but still and all, I think these shows are over and trying to get people to invest in a whole new crew is a tough sell. We kept watching before because we had grown to know the particular housewives and it became interesting to see what they were up to in life year after year; kinda like a family reunion each season.

I'm in - this is exactly what RH of NEW YORK should be - women who appear to be wealthy and who are obsessed with the nuances of social status - remember the good old days when Ramona was horrified at having to have her driver take her to Brooklyn to visit the Von Kemps.

This was the first thing I thought of when Brynn (maybe?) commented on how nice Brooklyn was or something as she arrived at whichever's house.  Ramona would beg to differ ma'am!

Yeah I kinda love that the first episode of this started with Sai who is the only one that lives in Brooklyn with Brynn coming over and saying how nice it was. That's a far cry from season 1 when everyone was judging Alex for living in Brooklyn.

I enjoyed this. Brynn seems like she has studied the HW universe and is doing a bit of shitstirring to keep things interesting. So far I don't hate any of them but I can tell Brynn will annoy me.

Jenna's shoe closet 😍

To be fair Potomac is mentioned frequently and has even been a storyline several times. Who lived there and who didn’t.

Potomac was originally supposed to be about women living in this enclave who were part of the whole Jack and Jill social group. Karen’s shtick first season was that she was the doyenne and social arbitrator of this group

Now that the group pretty much doesn’t live in Potomac, geography isn’t mentioned.

What about the original cast was average? I think these women may be less wealthy than the OGs based on what was shown.

I know nothing about the new cast and their money, but most of the old married rich already .. Sonia, the Countess, Jill, and probably Dorinda.  These young housewives live In TriBeCa, Soho, the Village ….. very expensive.  The old cast seemed average to me, especially the way they acted and spoke.   But, it’s only the first episode.  Things will probably get crazy.

I watched RHONY from season 1 through season 11. I absolutely loathed season 10 and season 11 and have never actively rewatched them beyond the odd rerun. I watched part of season 12 and then stopped, with no interest in season 13. Looking back, I stopped watching new seasons because most of the long-term HWs became over-the-top caricatures of themselves who were stuck in piles of their own toxic shit (and then there was Leah, who got there all on her own). And, at least as I recall, RHONY became pretty much all most of them had going on, in one way or another, and it felt like a TV show about miserable drunk people filming a TV show about their TV show. As much as I love RHONY seasons 1-9 and have loads of positive nostalgia for most of those cast members, I don't know if it would be possible to fit Luann, Sonja, or Ramona (or Dorinda) into a show that's not entirely about them and their oddball dynamics. In that way, maybe meta spin-offs, like Crappie Lake and the legacy whatever trip, are for the best. The reboot got me watching the RHONY franchise again, including those spin-offs. 🤷‍♀️

THANK YOU!  I have watched RHONY faithfully, every season, every episode, year after year.  I didn't realize it until I watched this new cast but I am so thankful to never have Ramona, LuAnn, Dorinda or Sonja on the show again.  I am so tired of them.   It's the same old shit, over and over and over....literally until one of them shit on the floor.  Bring on the white furniture that is NOT covered in spray tan!!

I like the new cast, I like that they are young and fresh.  Jenna, Sai & Erin are my favorite.  Brynn & Jessel are least favorite and Ubah seems cool & love that she is related to Chanel Ayan!

It's the new New York and I'm here for it.

The old cast just needed a few new women.  Why they scrapped the whole cast is beyond me.  Everyone thinks Crappy Lake is funny.  I think it’s pathetic.  Running around half naked and acting like they are 25 yrs old with the sex jokes,  going after much younger men.  It’s embarrassing.

That’s the exact same “type” the old housewives were Bethany was the only “poor” housewife and even she wasn’t really “poor” .. but that’s the actual rub of these shows you can’t hire a “poor” housewife because she wouldn’t be able to film around their schedule an actual working New York woman wouldn’t be able to just take off for months at a time and throw lavish parties cause they couldn’t afford to and keep their job literally they would have to film them in the few hours free they had and everyone would say how dull that is cause you know on their few free moments of “off” time they would be to tired to really wanna put in a show

Isn't that the point of the franchise - especially New York and Beverly Hills which are supposed to be about the lifestyles of the rich and fabulous.

If anything franchises like Orange County are banal because the people are wannabes and so they only thing they bring is boring fake drama.

Bring on the housing and clothing porn - the shoe closets.

OK...I'm reading some of these posts and now I'm not sure I want to invest my time into watching this. I saved the first episode to my DVR and haven't watched it yet. Is it worth watching? Having asked that, I have to say, I really think these Housewives shows are a relic at this point. There are so many good shows on the streamers I just wonder about the relevancy of these franchises.

Most of the others appear to live in boring, interchangeable white boxes. Expensive white boxes I am sure, but boring nevertheless. And too many little children, who at that age are either boring, obnoxious, or both.

I like Jessel, but it boggles my mind that she's able to keep her house that clean and white with twin toddlers.

Also... okay... I swear I'm not mom-shaming but I was genuinely surprised they had Jessel's 1-year-old twins riding in forward-facing car seats. Kids under two need to be in rear-facing seats by law here in NJ, and I thought it was the same in NYC?

The problem is Andy Cohen. He likes the shitstirring, drama, and all of the conflict. The audience is tired of it.

New housewives will only spark interest. It is boring formula that needs to change. A few of the newbies are trying too hard already.

I liked Erin until she started talking about her sex life and how her husband's top priority in bed is making sure she comes. Please, stop! Not sure anybody cares about that. I guess she's going to be the sex queen of the bunch. Yea, you have 3 kids. It doesn't take tons of sex to make babies. Jeesh! Is this what we're in for with her? Ease up, sister.

Agree with you about Crappie Lake.
I liked this new version of RHONY.  I am happy to see new people, new lives, scenery, homes, shoe collections, etc.  I was tired of the previous group.  Hope Andy’s desire for “drama” doesn’t ruin this group.

Ronnie and Ben are in top form, recapping this.

PARAPHRASING:

Why would anyone ask Jenna to be a godmother? She probably naively thought that Jenna would invite her daughter to accompany her to runway shows. She would fly on private jets. But she should have realized that this title would in fact lock her daughter into a life of servitude, washing Jenna’s dishes and walking Popeye in the rain.

Banana? You’d better not be talking about Banana Republic!

I love their take on Jessel. They think she is nice to people who she feels are above her and horrible to the ones she feels are below her. So she treats her husband and mother like shit and as soon as Jenna comes over she's super nice. I have to say, it seems like an accurate take.

I'll decide  next week if I continue,  tonight  was scattered, to say the least.

Mandy Moore, yes that’s exactly it! And I think Erin looks like a cross between Jenn Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Add in cooks, nannies, cleaning crews, catering for a few women, etc. etc. Funny, as I am all the above and just cannot relate.  What’s with the unbuttoned blouse down to the navel?  Is that in now?  Just MY opinion of course.

I grew up in Brooklyn when even the Von Kemps wouldn't have set foot there.

I went to school in Manhattan from 7th grade and I was seriously embarrassed about where I grew up/was living and would kind of cough when asked.

It is astounding to me how gentrified Brooklyn has come.

I rather enjoyed this episode. The old cast had become parodies of themselves, and I watched the last few seasons only to see how drunk they'd all be by the end of the episode and how much Luann and/or Sonja would disgrace themselves. I hated Leah and Eboni, and the way Dorinda bullied Tinsley was shameful.

The only one of this cast I'd ever heard of was Jenna Lyons, and that's only because she had a cameo in 'Girls' for a couple of episodes as a digital magazine editor. (J Crew doesn't have stores in the UK.) I loved her apartment, although I hope that was faux fur on her bed.

I wish they wouldn't do the "we're all friends who've known each other for years" schtick though. We all know they've been cast in a show and whilst a couple of them might know one another (and have possibly suggested them to producers as suitable castmates), it's obvious they're not all friends. Jenna blew that cover straight away.

I will definitely keep watching, as I love NYC anyway and watch most things that are set there just for the background. At least with RHONYC we get to see restaurants and nice homes.

Ultimately, it's going to come down to Ratings.  The premier of the Reboot was the Lowest ever for RHONY.

I don't think BRAVO is done with the OGs.  They got a huge payday for RHUGT, for basically going on a vacation for a week in St. Barts.

Season 14 really should have been a hybrid version - bring back 4 from the original series, add 3 newcomers.  Jenna Lyons is some one that would have been a better fit with the seasoned cast.

Low ratings (672,000 viewers), but good reviews.

I watched, and I kind of liked it. Jenna Lyons and Ubah Hassan are the most likeable. Brynn is annoying, and Erin will continue complaining. Jessel doesn't like her husband, but he is liked by other HWs. Jenna Lyons has the best resume.

I don't think the OGs could mesh with the new HWs, even with Jenna Lyons (for those who would like some of the OGs added). They don't have anything in common. I'm not sure I want to see them on the reboot.

Yep. Water finds its level. I think there's a reason that, in the 6 seasons after Heather and Kristen left, all Bravo could find were Jules, Tinsley, a lady that didn't even make it into the credits, Leah, and Eboni. I really can't imagine that Jenna and possibly a few of the other new HWs would want to be directly associated with the OG+Dorinda circus that the later seasons became. I could possibly see a season with Heather, Kristen, and/or Carole (hypothetically) and some of the new HWs. But I definitely don't want to see anyone who needs RHONY more than RHONY needs them.

To be honest I’m finding Some  of these women really annoying. Brynn and Sai especially. They are both trying way too hard. I’m watching them now on WWHL and this whole thing about not going to a restaurant because they don’t want to be seen there because it’s out of fashion is just rude and really turns me off. You go out with friends to be with friends. It shouldn’t matter where you are it’s not like they wanted to go to McDonald’s or something. I do like Jenna. She seems real. .Haven’t really figured out the other ones enough to have an opinion. I found this first episode very frenetic but I’ll give it another episode or two before I decide whether it’s worth watching.

I think you’re right. Who in their right mind would want to hang out with the toxic twins Ramona and Dorinda. I’ve watched this show from the beginning although it became less enjoyable as one by one any of the cast that I liked left.Carol, Heather, Kristen had good chemistry and storylines and were fun to watch. I even liked Tinsley. I just re-watched some of the old seasons, But only made it through one episode of season 13. By then it had become unbearable and I didn’t like anybody.

i’m hoping that as the season goes on we get to see some of these ladies at work instead of arguing about cheese.I have quit or never watched any of the other housewives shows except for Beverly Hills and New Jersey. I am looking forward to a season of Beverly Hills without Rhinna.

I finally watched fully expecting to hate it. The original  was, for many years, my favorite franchise. Once Leah and Eboni joined I could not even make it through the last season. I am surprised to say I didn't hate it. Maybe I will in the end, but at least I made it through an entire episode which is more than I can say for the God awful Dubai. I will watch again and see what happens. I just hope we saw more of the children because they were being introduced and they will not continue to be featured. I don't watch these shows for kids. I will say it was refreshing to see an argument, petty as it was, not fueled by Alcohol. I drink occasionally and have no issues with anyone drinking socially, but most of these shows just feature a bunch of stupid drunk women and it's tiresome-OK, the Countess in the Bushes was a classic, but not all scenes are. Especially knowing what came after in her life.
