S07.E10: Thank You

Recommended Posts

In the series finale, Sookie imagines her future with—and without—Bill.

How much of the episode are they going to waste on this crap? It's bad enough they wasted all that time on Bill's flashbacks, now they're going to waste time on Sookie's flashforwards?

Does anyone know if it's an hour or two?  It seems like a lot of crap to wrap up in only one hour.

According to TVGuide.com. it's an hour & ten minutes. Definitely not enough time to waste on useless crap.

The hint is that Andy is Bill's descendant, so his unexpected inheritance means Bill dies and Andy gets the legally intestate property.

I hope it's this and not the other thing that was speculated in the spoiler thread, because it means Bill is finally dead and no longer moping.

I thought we knew Andy was a descendent of Bill's - didn't bill stop dating Portia (Andy's sister) because of this knowledge?

Edited to change Caroline to Portia because Caroline was Bill's wife. Thanks Insomnia.

Yeah, Portia didn't care because there would be no babies, so he made her terrified of him whenever she saw Bill.

In the books

Bill did this and didn't die, he just set it up so some long lost relative died and gave them money. It really annoyed me at the time because Sookie would endlessly bitch about it, but she and Bill were no longer together, or if they were it was the tail end, and she came off as really entitled to Bills money because... he had to give it away, I guess.

Anyway, they could go that way and not have Bill die.

Is it too early to start drinking preparations yet? If the season was still 12 episodes it wouldn't be! I just don't know what loose ends they have to tie up, that they actually will. Tara is dead. Sam is gone (and honestly, I just find that stupid. Sure, all this weird shit happens in Bon Temp, but that's only because that is where the show is set. The blood infection is a world-wide problem, except for the northern hemisphere, but only because it hasn't gotten dark there, yet. But that's just me ranting, it's waaaay too late for me to hope the characters would have more of a world view, despite having several characters who have been to the far corners of the earth and back again, sometimes multiple times.)

But I mean, what really is there left to do? Someone needs to go pick up Andy's truck from Fort Bellfleur, I guess. It was just left there. And um... things?

It would be ballsy (and awesome) if an asteroid just came out of nowhere and flattened Bon Temp, and then the credits roll, just to show how pointlessly pointless all the drama and magical fairy vaginas and everything really is in the grand scheme of things. Because like I said earlier, it's happening everywhere, Bon Temps really isn't all that special in the grand scheme of things.

If they had a sense of humour, they would do the one or two line endings before the credits. Soandso died suddenly. The Merkin went on to have many adventures.

Can I you tell I'm already ready to be disappointed?

Ugh.  I think the only thing good about this whole season was Eric's jamming out in the Yakuza car.

Seriously, how long has Bill been lingering with this advanced, super-fast Hep-V?  He's been at this stage for about five nights now.  And yet never figured out how to get Jessica's name on the deed to his house... Bill, how long do you think Andy's going to want to pay taxes on your mansion?  I just don't care about the Hamby-Fortenberry nuptials, based as it is on lies and glamoring.  I guess Andy's just totally forgiven Jessica for killing the majority of his daughters?

Finally glad to see Pam and Eric remember they can move faster than humans.  But I guess vampires no longer get the bleeds when they're up during the day?

So Bill ended in a goo drop and the unending strains of the Ballad of Sookie and Bill.  This show is just so uneven in tone.  It ends on a 10-minute maudlin, melodramatic farewell scene between Bill and Sookie, and then has this hokey-jokey coda, with a little torture porn against a woman and tries to pull at our heartstrings that Lettie Mae, Jane Bodehouse, and Arlene's random vampire are all together at Thanksgiving four years from now.  Hey, show: I NEVER cared about Jane Bodehouse, and HATED Lettie Mae.

I guess we're supposed to all talk around the water cooler tomorrow about who Sookie's baby-daddy is?

Ugh to the fate of Sarah Newlin.

What I was wondering, if it was supposed to be "about a year ahead" how the hell did Brigitte and Jason have 3 kids?

Pam and Eric, I expected that. Same with Sarah Newlin.

The best part was Eric rockin out in the Yakuza mobile.

Well, that was an anticlimactic waste of time.

What I was wondering, if it was supposed to be "about a year ahead" how the hell did Brigitte and Jason have 3 kids?

The first jump was one year for Eric and Pam's New Blood commercial, and then we did another jump to three more years after that, and that's when we see everyone else.

Gods that SUCKED.  Not as bad as Dexter's finale but pretty damn close.

I am glad that Jason survived. That's all I cared about.

That's a really awful ending for Sarah. That doesn't seem like poetic justice to me.

And I just do not care at all about Bill and Sookie.

Welp. I hope Ryan Kwanten finds himself some really great roles.

Ugh to the fate of Sarah Newlin.

No kidding. Since most vampires seem to be sociopathic, murderous assholes (except for the fluffy bunny ones that live in Bon Temps, apparently), I could never root for them to "win". But it seems they have. I'm not saying she doesn't have issues and need tons of therapy and such, but seeing what they're doing to Sarah isn't winning me over to the vampires' side.

Well that was 45 minutes of boring and 15 minutes of pretty good.

I kept saying they were going to kill Bill but I was surprised they actually did it.

Loved that Pam & Eric became super rich, successful Vampires while still running Fantasia...perfect ending for them.

I liked the Thsnksgiving scene, it was a nice ending.

Eric jamming in the Japanese car was hysterical, but it was kind of annoying that the kicked ass so easily after being Yakuza chew toys for so long...why didn't they do that sooner?

UGH!!!! What was the point of Sookie suddenly being able to read his mind? I was thinking this was the preamble before he reverted to a human state, but no. Sookie stakes him and that's it. As has been said - SO ANTICLIMACTIC!

My current theory is they leaked the foiler about human Bill so people would be shocked. But they dragged out the conversions about his death and then his death for so bloody long. No pun intended.

I can't really blame them for Sookie ending up with nameless rando. People were going to be unhappy no matter what.

For at least three seasons I have been waiting to enjoy the fuck out of Bill's death. They managed to rob me of even that. No, not because I was over come with grief or "touchy feelies" over his death, but because it was so painstakingly boring and long. They could not even fuck that up properly. Good riddance!

Didn't know they filmed multiple endings, but considering how non sequitur Bill's offing was, that makes total sense. And then the not knowing who the father of Sookie's baby was, and we're obviously supposed to conclude that it doesn't really matter, all that matters is that she got what Bill wanted for her. But it simply doesn't fit with the whole context of this series. Such BAD storytelling!

I did enjoy Eric and Pam's happy ending. And Eric jamming in the car. But that's about it. Everything else was pretty damn sloppy.

What I was wondering, if it was supposed to be "about a year ahead" how the hell did Brigitte and Jason have 3 kids?

It was "about a year ahead"  then moments later on Thanksgiving they flashed "about three years after", so it ended up being about four years by then.  I guess Bridget and Jason got busy and had three kids in four years.  At least he finally settled down.

I was out for a while so I only caught the last half hour, so I have to go back and watch the rest.  I'm not sure how I feel about the ending.  Seemed like "key people" had already been erased from the surface of the show a few weeks back (Tara, Alcide) and should have been there more than others who were.

I'm glad certain happy endings happened, but with the Bill thing, I kept waiting for a "twist".  I almost think it would have been more interesting to have the episode stop where Sookie walked out of the cemetery all covered in blood and into the night.

The Sarah Newlin stuff was pretty disturbing, I must say.

I guess she just sort of moved on and got pregnant/married some random dude with a beard.  Oh man, I wish it had been Alcide.  It would have been more interesting to have him just leave a few episodes back and that they later reconciled and married.  Apparently all of her supernatural boyfriends were out of the picture and she settled down with what is apparently a "normal" guy.  Who knows for sure.

I would love to see the alternate endings of the finale.  I'm guessing they might show up in the DVD release of the final season when it comes out.

Anyway, it was probably it's time, but I will still miss this show terribly.  Farewell, True Blood.

Well I will give the show this they actually killed Bill and did not have him end up with Sookie. I honestly didn't think it would end that way.

Eric and Pam lived and are still together which was the most important thing for me so that was good.

It was still very boring and dragged. Way too much time spent on the love story of Bill and Sookie which I never bought and felt the series spent too much time on.

Nice to see Sam and Lafayette for 2 minutes. They so did not know what to do with all these characters towards the end.

Its embarrassing how boring and slow this was. True Blood hasn't always been a good show but its always been exciting. Shit happens every episode, but not here. This dragged. That was the longest 70 minutes of my life. So much time talking about Sookie and Bill and Bill dying and Sookie's future. I missed Lafayette who only had a cameo in the dinner scene.

Sookie Stackhouse is such a messy character. She was declaring her love for Bill while still driving Alcide's truck. I am glad she kept her fairy light. That was one of the few moments I enjoyed.

As much as I rag on Bill and Sookie, I did like some of the Bill and Jessica stuff. That relationship was always more believable to me and more impactful. I think those moments got repetitive as the writers padded for time (in the finale, WTF?) but the sentiment was there.

The lack of Lafayette was appalling. They might as well have just misspelled Nelsan Ellis's name in the credits, just as a final fuck-you to the actor and the character.

But we made sure to get time with Mr. Lettie Mae, whose name I don't even know.

That was fun. I mean, it was either this or the VMAs, and DVRs make things so much easier. I'm 38 . . .  I probably don't have any business watching the VMAs, but a series finale to a show that should've been killed off two seasons ago? Sure, why not?

Poor Sookie. I bet she was going to kill Bill through the Faerie FIreball, but she changed her mind. Otherwise, she would've worn more clothes. How many vamps have gone *POP* on her? And yeah, that did take too long. I kept expecting the Doctor and his shiny new Scottish accent to rush in, Sonic Screwdriver in one hand, guilt-free cure for Hep V in the other.

Jason wound up with Bridget? Awwwww. I'm hoping the sex was post-marriage. I'm going to miss Jason's male slut self. And I'm not going to question Bridget, because the alternative is Alaska. Unless we're talking Sicily, I'll take Bon Temps, even if it's the center of bizarreness.

Man, I would not have expected Eric to be a huckster. But he and Pam do it so well. Almost makes up them whoring off Sarah and her blood. And I kinda like how the NewBlood cans look like Red Bull for vampires. And I'm guessing Sookie had some in the fridge for Jessica and the other friendly vamps, as opposed to her cheating on her "rando" guy.

At least the wedding was cute. Rushed, but cute. Jessica (I can't be bothered with real names most of the time) is gonna make one heckuva Karen Page on Daredevil. And at least Hoyt and Jason buried the hatchet, and not in Jason's crotch. Maybe they're the couple that was meant to me. BTW, is Hoyt's first name really "Hoyt"? I kept thinking it was short for "Hoytenberry," but it was actually "Foytenberry." Oh, and nice that he didn't have to think about his momma. His dead, battleaxe momma. I hated Maxine. Thank you, Violet, for at least whacking her.

Looks like I'll be needing another HBO series. At least I got closure, which I don't remember getting from Carnivale.

The good - FINALLY Eric acts like the badass he is.  Eric killing all the guys and then jamming out in the car was awesome.

The bad - Weak, Punk Ass, Pussy Bill Compton.  You want to die, you want to do it because you love Sookie, then you basically put a stake in her hands and ask her to do it for you?  How horrible can you be?  I love you, now drive this piece of wood through me and I'll turn into a puddle.  It won't hurt at all!  And that scene took way too damn long.  I just couldn't wait for him to goo out.

The rest - meh.  Expected.  Glad Jason lived.

So, my longtime suspicion has been confirmed-all anyone on this show needed to happen for them to be happy was for Bill to die.

Positives: Gran; Bill died!; young Tara; Bill died!!

Negatives: Every other fucking thing.

Hoyt & Jessica put a ring on a previously toxic relationship without actually working out any of their shit?? No one saying to either of them, "Say, didn't you two breakup b/c Hoyt was verbally abusive, kidnapped & almost murdered you?" or "Say, didn't you use your vamp powers to erase all his negative memories of you?" Sure, whatever TB.

Sarah Newlin held in captivity & tortured and assaulted? As much I wanted Sarah to receive her comeuppance, I can't get behind that kind of punishment for any person.

And finally, apparently all women need to be happy is to settle down with a man & pop out a bunch of babies? Thanks for that little going away message TB, ugh.

I'm glad to close the door on this show.

They should have done the ball of light. Sookie and Adilyn are still fairy bait for vamps.

Let's face it, any woman who settles down with Jason has a full time job. Working as brood mare in addition? Fairy tale ending. Literally I guess.

Chickening out of showing Mr. Sookie? Chicken shits!

Eric's Wall Street huckster persona is not a happy ending for him or Pam.

Not even Steve Newlin could save the nastiness from the torture scenes. Thankfully, the careful way they've been shaving her armpits shows that they're not really mistreating her.

Was it supposed to be romantic that half this episode was taken up by a marriage based on glamoring and lies and verbal abuse where the groom couldn't remember his bride beyond the day before because she took that from him?

Apparently all they had to do was kill Bill and they all could have been swimming in happiness and babies for these past seven years.  Who knew?

Eric and Pam getting stupid rich together peddling a half cure is fine.  Wasting anymore time at the apparent epicenter of stupidity if you believe this series is not.

I'm pretty sure Pam is only keeping up the grooming because she's whoring her out to wealthy vamps. Its truly awful that she's been forced into being a sex slave for four years at that point. I hate Sarah Newlin, but that sort of torture is disgusting.

Thank god that's over.  One of the worst things for me:  how totally wrong young Sookie was - not only a bad actress, but didn't even  look or sound at all like Sookie.  Or, was that intentional, and I was just missing the point?

Eric and Pam were not known for being the nicest of vampires. Them keeping Sarah alive as the ultimate Hep V cure to whore out her blood to wealthy vamps didn't shock me. I'm not saying Sarah deserved it, but at the same time she did kind of try to kill ALL vampires by poisoning the Tru Blood. Payback's a bitch.

Agree on the Sarah Newlin thing coming across as tone deaf. I get that we're supposed to remember she was one of the prime movers of the vampire holocaust, but turning her into a repentant but still sassy Buddhist fugitive (as opposed to an ongoing threat) was a very weird choice if they meant for the viewers to sustain hatred for her. And as much of a mess as s5/s6 were, I bet a lot of people can't even remember what she did. Hell, I would have been happy to have her settle down with Jason.

Wow... I'm still shocked that things went out this way... and completely heartbroken that they actually killed Bill. I know that is reason for many to celebrate, but not everybody hated him.

The human twist from the spoilers would have been much better, even without Sookie using her fairy light ball... just.. ughh... I don't need to watch True Blood ever again, which is a shame, since It's always been a good re-watcher, but knowing how depressing the ending is, despite the rest of the town "happy" I don't think I'm interested.

Sookie and a total random dude is very unsatisfying, I don't care that she gets to have a million babies...

Not surprised by Eric and Pam's ending... at least they get to keep doing what they do best and be super rich while doing it.

Jessica and Hoyt was an interesting route to go... I do wish he had his full memories when he made the decision to marry Jessica... and that they had a chance to hash out all of the bad stuff the both did.

Just... ugh.. I don't know what else to say... very disappointed.... that's all it comes down to.

It would have been better if Bill had just moved away and become a lumberjack.

I don't think it was so much that she was drawn to vampires/darkness... but that she was drawn to Bill specifically... in the beginning because he was vampire... but after that just because of who they were and the whole love thing...

So him being around, she couldn't let go of loving him and move on with her life... with him actually dead, she could finally do that.

It's still lame as hell though.

Link to comment

Well that was...something.  Was genuinely surprised that they killed Bill.  Not seeing Sookie's husband felt like a cop-out, but I think Kierya's right; the viewers wouldn't have been happy no matter what, because the lead-up to it was such a bust.  And wow, it took Sookie forever to finally kill Bill; once she decided to go through with it.

I was pretty patient with Bill throughout this Hep-V plot, but it was shitty of him to ask Sookie to do the honors.  That's just too much too ask of her.  Even though she's never cared about her fairy light before, I'm glad Sookie took a stand and said no.  And now that it's over, there really was no reason Bill couldn't have just walked outside into the sun if he wanted to die.  It might have even been more poetic that way.  Well, it was when Godric did it.

I did laugh at most of the Thanksgiving party being coupled with a vampire.  Lafayette, Hoyt, Arlene, even Jane Bodehouse.   Why was she there, anyway?

So Sarah ended up being a cash cow for Eric and Pam.  Figured as much.  That "I'll be a lesbian for you" and "I'm a bad person so I'll become a vampire, too!" nonsense earlier had me rolling my eyes.  Wished Pam would have killed her right there.  That woman was delusional to the very end.

Now Eric and Pam are filthy rich because of the New Blood, but I guess the Yakuza aren't chasing them anymore.  Such a pointless plotline since Eric and Pam just had to wipe them all out in one fell swoop.  Why didn't they just do that earlier after Eric recovered?  And Mr. Gus' other partners wouldn't be searching for him, despite him being the head of the freaking company?  So half-assed.  I'm glad that Eric and Pam made it out OK, but that ending was wack.

Talk about going out with a whimper.  It's clear that they were scrambling to tie up loose ends and the show suffered even more for it.  The viewers suffered, too.

Gee, it's so great that Bill stayed alive long enough to make Jessica and Hoyt's wedding revolve around him. What a peach of a guy.

My favorite part, other than Eric and Pam, was Sookie arriving at Jason's house and meeting Brigette and discussing who was to wake Jason up.

Sookie (paraphrasing here): The only way to wake Jason up is with coffee.
Brigette: I looked, but all I could find was instant.
Sookie: Yes, he's disgusting.

The writers had no plot for the whole entire season beyond Bill is dying and its never been more clear that with Eric and Pam. They spend episodes afraid of humans then wipe them out in seconds in the finale when the writers are finally ready to move their story forward. This finale is a symptom of a very poorly plotted season. With where the story was, it was the best place to go, but if the writers hadn't kept so many stories in holding patterns for episode after episode, they could have actually shown these characters growing and left something more satisfying at the end. This isn't the worst season finale I've ever seen (hello Dexter, howdy How I Met Your Mother, what's up, Lost), but as a whole, this season is a lesson is how not to wrap up a show.
