The sun’ll come out tomorrow

So you gotta hang on til tomorrow…

Come what may!

We’re all wishing it was “tomorrow”, aren’t we? RIP Mr. Strouse.

Much as I love Annie, my favourite Strouse musical, possibly my favourite musical (definitely top 5) is Bye Bye Birdie.  I never had the chance, of course, to see the Broadway play but I own the movie and have seen it many, many, many times.

Academy Award winning Director/Screenwriter Robert Benton who won Oscars for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Kramer vs Kramer (1980), Best Original Screenplay for Places in the Heart (1985) and nominated for Best Original Screenplay for Bonnie and Clyde (1968) has died age 92.

While Mr. Wendt had been a great character performer before he got his iconic role as Norm, I think this is as good time as any to mention that [as per Prof. Wiki] he was one of nine children  [and by one of his sisters was the uncle of SNL alum Jason Sudeikis] and he had been married to a performer named Bernadette Birkett since 1978 ( at least 46 years) and they were the parents of three children. It appears that he simply died in his sleep this morning (Tuesday, May 20,2025) which somehow seems fitting exit for the one known as 'Norm'!

RIP, Mr. Wendt!

That Milk Bone line of Norm's was so well known, a joke on The Golden Girls referenced it. Blanche's answer was, "It's a dog-eat-dog world, and I'm wearing no underwear!" Understanding that joke was predicated on knowing the Cheers joke.

Another favorite from Norm, upon being asked how the world was treating him: "Like a baby treats a diaper!"

I'll also remember Mr. Wendt fondly as one of the Chicago Superfans on Saturday Night Live, raising a glass to da Bears!

He made me laugh a lot. Not a bad legacy, making people laugh.

Rest well, sir.

Jimmy Kimmel had a funny bit last night.  A Fox News mole sent a copy of an email that was sent to Kirstie Alley's former reps.  They wanted her to appear on a tribute segment for Wendt on Fox and Friends, the morning show.  Awkward!  I bet Ted Danson would not appear on Fox.

Did they seriously not know she died? Unbelievable…

I'd turn into watch if they got her to appear somehow!

Wouldn't it have been a coup if they got her to appear!

She was a Scientologist and Scientology does believe in some form of reincarnation. (They do believe that L. Ron will come back to them someday and keep his room ready for him on his yacht complete with alcohol and tobacco.) FoxNews was just trying to cover all of their bases.

Similarly, the St Louis Blues adopted Laura Brannigan's Gloria as a good luck song a few years back (2019). (They won the cup, so it worked.) At some point during the run, the Blues front office contacted Ms Brannigan's management to see if they could set up some kind of live event, and Brannigan's management had to tell them she'd passed in 2004.

It's so sad.  I've been going to bed early for years and have passed on a few concerts because of that and because of the obscene prices, but I told my husband the other day that I would spend the money and stay up late for Billy Joel whenever he was in town.

I can't choose just one song, but my top three are You May Be Right, Vienna, and Italian Restaurant.

That's so horrible for Mr. Joel and his loved ones! I hope they can find a treatment that will soon alleviate if not eradicate any debilitating symptoms!

I'm not going to pretend that Mr. Joel hasn't had his faults down the decades. However, I think it needs to be recalled that in 2011, he  turned down a seven-figure offer to write his autobio evidently in part. ..because his eldest daughter Alexa had been going through some tough times and he didn't to cause her any added stress. If that MO  is true, I have to admire him having prioritized her best interests over even such a large windfall.

There may still be an opportunity. It seems there is hope for his treatment.🤞

My uncle who is around Billy Joel's age was recently diagnosed with the same condition. He had a surgery done where the fluid was drained out of his brain and thankfully is doing so much better now. In a short amount of time his mobility has improved so much and while he still has a way to go with physical therapy, all signs are very positive for now. This is after he was misdiagnosed for over two years, so hopefully if Billy's prognosis isn't too advanced he'll be able to have a similar recovery. 🙏

What's everyone's favorite Billy song (that isn't WDSTF)?

WAY too many to choose from, but I'll go with:

"Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway)"

The song really rocks, his piano playing is excellent, and its apocalyptic theme (sadly) seems even more timely than it did when it was released 49 years ago.

I truly hope that treatment works and that Billy can recover. Even if he's not able to tour any longer, I hope he can get back to a place where he can enjoy life again. He's given us so much of himself for decades. Thanks, Billy. Get well soon.
