S06.E01: Be Careful What You Wish For

Premieres April 25, 2021 on TLC, and several days earlier on Discovery+.

This is the second straight time (after Jovi and Yara) that a couple has stayed in Vegas, but off the Strip. My wife and I wondered if the Strip casinos don't want the distraction of a camera crew, or if The Tuscany just offered the producers a great deal.

Brandon's "joke" on Julia was horrid. And Brandon: the 644,000+ permanent residents of Las Vegas will be very amused at your declaration that nobody actually lives there.

Could Angela's nonstop cackling (there is no other word to describe it) be any more annoying?

Andrei's entitlement knows no bounds, and his FIL's counteroffer (come work for me and learn the house-flipping business, THEN maybe I'll loan you the $100K you want to go out on your own) was more than generous. If Andrei tried flipping a house right now, he'd be taken to the cleaners by contractors who would smell the blood of a naive newbie. He'd run out of money before he was even half-finished.

Brandon's joke was screwed up b/c you can tell that Julia would love to get tf out of rural VA and get to Vegas.  Also, dude?  Ppl do live in Vegas.

I have a friend who has lived in Vegas for the last couple of decades. He says he's been asked the following questions in all seriousness:

"Are there churches here?"

"Do you live here?"

"Is there real water in the fountains?"

Party of one here: I liked Brandon's joke. Totally understand Julia's desire to leave the farm ASAP but she's being totally unrealistic, unless, as he said, she has some undisclosed income stashed away. She's also extremely bossy.

Angela's cackling is soooo annoying!

Asuelo is still an idiot. What the actual fuck does she see in him? When the door opened to show him jumping up and down on the bed I felt second-hand anger on the owners' behalf. What a fool he is!

Andrei is the most entitled person on earth and really does see Chuck as a cash cow. Dude, he is not your father. What is wrong with him?

In my house, we starting doing a roleplay of Andrei selling a house.  "You buy house b/c I say it is best.  You?  Lady? Can I speak to your father or husband?  I need to talk to the person who makes the financial decisions."  He's the least personable person in a field of smarmy people.  He has no sense of money or shame.  I agree with the BiL....he's trying to see what sticks and he wants to do it with Father Libby's money.  Also, didn't some of the sleuths in here also figure out that Chuck's business is hella shady? Tampa trash.

Brandon's joke was screwed up b/c you can tell that Julia would love to get tf out of rural VA and get to Vegas.  Also, dude?  Ppl do live in Vegas.

Oh, Kahlani, girl.  You've already saddled yourself with 2 kids and a manchild husband. You are gonna add mortgage to that?!

Angela and Michael are so fucking cringey.  I can't. Literally her first scene this season is taking a shit in the hope to lose a little bit for weighing herself.  And, the previews for the season show video phone sex.  Lawd, what have I done to deserve this?!  Can I get some of that vintage TWOP brain bleach!?  Also, are the Nigerians (Mike's female family members are so so strikingly lovely!) trolling about the baby thing? They have to be, right?

I don't understand Mike and Natalie.  Are there 2 Mikes and 2 Natalies, and they just switch out with each other?  The level of confusion...I don't know when ppl are mad or not mad or whatever.   I don't understand the whole ring situation...just get a little flexible silicon ring or something.

According my my top notch crack research, one would need an income of $52,000 to support a mortgage of $350,000.  Fro Yo and dancinf ain't paying that much, I am afraid.

It is my understanding there are many affordable places to live in Las Vegas, especially out of the city.  Listening to Brandon yammer on over "getting a new license would be hard" well yeah, buddy, LOTS of things are hard and I get the feeling changing your bug killing license is not that hard.  In fact, the HR people at the new bug place would probably help you with it.  Julia can be a dancer or a cocktail waitress in Vegas, this is a perfect opportunity to look out a small rental home or apartment.

Andrei/Libby/Chuck - no one cares. No fan of Chuck but he is right:  You want a loan of how much?  To start a business when I have never seen you work hard in your life?  Andrei, you have a wonderful opportunity here.....suck it up, work with FIL and swallow your pride.

Michael/Angela - don't care as I mute her.  I am so over her making a gross sexual joke/reference followed by a cackle.

Kalani - girl, you give me whiplash.  One day you are giggling and loving, the next day you want a divorce.

Tiffany - you can't come in what, second or third in the Love Games, talking about your AWESOME CONNECTION then show up crying at the divorce lawyers office.  Plus I kinda hate her like I hate Andrew so........

Last night's show was boring and looked like the set-up for fake family conflicts:

  • Natalie vacations in OK at Mama Mike's ("Why she call me a hooker?" in the previews);
  • Julia dreams of a Las Vegas hot tub with no pigs in sight, instead of the one on the swingers' doomsday farm;
  • Andrrrei faces the Double Chucks & Coven's business valuation, which involves an altercation on a boat but nobody is thrown overboard;
  • Kolini stays in Utah for a month, and Tammy and Mother Asuelo somehow get there to continue their violent shakedown.

For at least 273 reasons, Angela actually repels me from watching.  She becomes more reprehensible in every scene. Mykul's lost all dignity.  At least Tiffany and Ronald actually lived together before she debates if she should give him the cold shoulder (bad joke intended).

Right? He doesn't have to pass the goddamn bar exam or do an additional two years of schooling. Brandon is a fucking baby who visibly blenches whenever his wife suggests that they move away from the Pitiful Ponderosa. He is terrified of leaving his parents.

I feel a bit bad for Julia.  The bright lights of Vegas drew her in.  Vegas or the farm?  I know what I would choose, although do either of them realize there are places in between . . . ?

Hooray for Chuck for putting Andddddrei in his place, and he was also probably counting on the fact that Andrei would have nothing to do with working FOR him, WITH his in-laws.  This for sure will not end well.

Brandon's license may be transferrable to Nevada.    I bet that he could get a job very quickly in Vegas, and Julia too.    Cocktail waitress, or especially high roller room waitress, pays extremely well in the big casinos.       Moving his license to Nevada would open up all kinds of new career specialties, I wonder if he knows much about scorpions?

I think the main attraction for Julia is that Vegas is a long way from the parents' farm, and Mommy and Daddy can't drop in.    Also, no slopping hogs, shoveling poop, or anything else.    Julia needs to realize that Brandon will never leave the farm, and his parents' clutches for long.    I bet the only reason they start looking for a place in town near the parents' farm is for the show.

Angela really thinks no one ratted her out to the doctors about her continued smoking?     She was smoking in the airport, and the camera crew caught, and showed every second they could too.     The stench of her cigarettes will definitely tell the medical staff everything they need to know about her.      Angela seems to think lying to the doctors is cute, but it could cause all kinds of complications.     You know she'll start smoking again the second she can, and vaping isn't 'not smoking' either.   Her oxygen levels will tell, and her other tests will tell a lot about her lies too.

Doctors ALWAYS know when you are a smoker, and when she gets on that OR table her doc can tell if she has been doing a clear diet, too.  Fat stores on your organs, too, and science does not lie!  I can't wait for Angela to have to get a pregnancy test, too.  (I had to take two, despite having my tubes ties seven years prior.)

Me too - my hubs and I are doing a refinance and we are coming in with waaaaay less than we can afford.  Makes me jittery!  Plus they made a rookie mistake - looking at new, big builds that they can't afford.  When you go look at stuff you CAN afford, it seems like a step down.   Do they live with her parents?  They are so boring I don't watch them.  I can't take looking at her boobs hanging out either.

I earned an additional licensure on my teaching license.  The form to submit it to the state was 10 pages long, front AND back.  But you know what?  I did it.  Brandon, you can do this.  If I were to move to a different state and need licensure in that state......guess what?  I do it again!

Angela, Angela, oh my!  The braying as you have all called it is SO ANNOYING!  But they have put a woman who can't act BY HERSELF on a relationship show!  Sorry, but her section doesn't belong on this show.  This is just Mama June goes to Hollywood to get cut and sucked 2.0.  And we all know how well that turned out for her.  If she would just stop with the gross, stop with the sex and stop with the braying, this would be fine.  Oh, except for the fact that then there would be nothing left. :(

There are a ton of better places to live in VA and he would still have his license. Williamsburg, Falls Church, Centerville, Fairfax to name a few.

We all know how Angela's surgery thing turns out. I don't even know why they bother to point out that she is lying to the doctors about her smoking and eating habits. I would have more respect for the doctors (and TLC for that matter) if they flat out refused her ala Dr. Now.

I was curious about the accommodations Brandon and Julia had in Las Vegas.  Their nightly fee is $60.  It looked like a nice place for that rate and great publicity for them.  So much less than staying on the Strip.

Basically there is no such thing as a starter home in Northern Virginia, it is crazy expensive, (always have been), maybe they can stay closer to Williamsburg but they really should distance themselves from Toxic Betty and Ron.  Why was Betty so vexed about Julia wanting to go to Las Vegas, so what it was their honeymoon and she probably is so curious about that town and it is fun, I am sure if was Brandon's idea Betty would be giving him $5 to put on red.

I have a friend that lives and works in Las Vegas, she is a patient health plan coordinator at a cancer center so yes, people live, work and play in Las Vegas. Flying in you can see zillions of houses, I am sure both Brandon and Julia saw those houses so why would Brandon say nobody lives there, where does he think all the employees in the casinos, hotels and restaurant live?

That's not unheard of for weeknights in the off season.  You can get a nice room with a king-sized bed at the MGM Grand for $58 (plus taxes, resort fees and parking, which makes it more like $100 per night).

And they are back and no, we haven't had time to miss any of you.

Angela and Mykull - have no interest in Angela's weight loss 'journey'/surgery. If diets worked, there wouldn't be a multi billion dollar diet industry. Diet and exercise and a lifestyle change. And it's hard. Her grandkids calling her fat is a bit embarrassing. I'm tired of the bad and uninteresting innuendo, comments about her marriage and the cackling. It's not cute, it's not charming and she doesn't have much else to make her likeable. Felt sorry for Mykull. Will he ever even get to the US? He sure has invested in her - like putting a pile of chips on the roulette wheel hoping you will cash out. Yeah, his mom would prefer the money being spent on somehow being able to provide a child. That ship sailed years ago and Angela has no interest in having one. Cut the loss, get a divorce, and move on. Thought something happened to Angela's toes in Nigeria, but I didn't look close enough at the feet. And Ange, if you do get the weight loss surgery, you do have to follow the rules your doctor gave you. The medical tests will show that you have not been doing so.

Mike and Natalie - last week on the Tell-Nothing, they hated each other. This week, it's hot and cold and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with both playing both roles. Nats was happy with her new $3 vring. Maybe Mike doesn't want to wear a ring, or if he does have a job that makes it a challenge, he does have a reason to not wear it at his workplace. He can maybe find a rubber ring or use a small elastic band to wrap around his finger. It does let people know that you are 'married'. You don't have to wear one and I wouldn't if I was washing dishes or doing some house stuff. Personal preference. Being around each other and not knowing how each other will go in terms of wind direction would be exhausting. The break in Seattle looked nice for a change of scene. Not a good idea to take your wife to Oklahoma around Thanksgiving time to stay at your mom's for a honeymoon.  Guess they'll keep slugging it out til they can't anymore.

Andrei and Libby - and they're back. Don't care. How can you ask your father in law for $100,000 so you can play with house flipping? Maybe stop using Chuck as a walking ATM and actually work for him or someone else and learn how to work on houses to flip them. You just can't dive on in when you know nothing. Get some experience. You won't learn much from watching home flipping shows either.  You have to know houses and problems they can have. That takes time. Don't know what sort of realtor Andrei would make. He'd have to learn to put on the charm and how to work with people. Flipping houses isn't as lucrative anymore with Covid bringing building material prices up.

Brandon and Julia - it was like last week when we last saw you and saw some of the real yous. Not the heavily edited version portraying you two in a very different light. Julia, you knew Brandon lived on a farm when you met him and got to know him. You have seen the family dynamic, you know perfectly well how much he is a mama's boy and that his mama is not going to set him free to grow up and discover who he is. You have been at that farm for months now. There is no real talk of moving or getting your own place. Kicking and screaming is not going to work because you are also battling his parents. So now he gets a new job with a different pest control company and makes a bit more money. Has he looked at any apartments nearby? Nope. The Las Vegas trip is a peace offering. A break. Too bad his parents weren't going. I liked the idea of living in London. If I could have gotten a decent job there and gotten a work visa, I'd have sprung for it. At least for a 6 month period to decide if I really wanted to be there. When you stay there for more than a few days as a tourist, you do see different sides. Vegas is big, it is a place filled with lots of lights and there are fancy shops and pools and resorts and spas, etc. All that glitters is not gold. Yes, you are not a farm girl and moving to Vegas is an escape right now. You don't have a work visa yet, but you probably could get a job in a casino or other entertainment place once things open up. Brandon could also get a pest control job. It is unlikely that you and Brandon will be hitting the major casinos and the seriously expensive shops. I didn't. Browsing in the Louboutin store and possibly finding something on sale is one thing. Walking in to Harry Winston? Nope. At least you got a decent hotel off-strip, but maybe Brandon could have sprung for one on the Strip so you can see what life is like.

Kalani and Asuelu - they are back too. Kalani and her three kids plus the two cantaloupes on her chest. Please find something that fits for your talking heads sections. No one looks at your face when the eye automatically does not go there. Guess their story is independence. Before going house hunting, you go to the bank and see what sort of mortgage you qualify for and how much house you can afford. You also get an idea of utilities costs, taxes, day to day expenses, car payments, etc. That will bring down your house dreams a bit. Asuelu and the kids bouncing on the bed in the staged home and making a mess was rude, ill-mannered, and unacceptable. In the real world, the realtor would be billing you for having to wash the bed linens and clean the room before the home can be shown to others. You'd also be finding a new realtor. Too bad that Kolini now has to move in with them and the parents. The best idea right now is that if you want a house, look at renting one for a year and then you can see if you want to be homeowners and can manage the home, yardwork, etc.

Brandon does not communicate things well. I cannot believe he is 28. He acts like a thirteen year old. Yes, people live in Vegas. Why couldn't he give a valid reason, like it might be too expensive to live. At least that would be better than "nobody lives here."

Are there no one bedroom apartments in this town of Dimwiddie, Virginia?? As others have said, they could live in Richmond or Williamsburg or Charlottesville and still keep his VA License.

As, for Aseulo jumping on the bed, I have no words. I would be p****d if I were the realtor. What normal 25 year old would do that??

Asuelu can jump on the bed all he wants when he is given the keys to his house and the bed he is jumping on is actually his. He's not 4 years old and should know better. The house does not come already furnished. Geez.

Andrei and Libby - Flipping houses isn't as lucrative anymore with Covid bringing building material prices up.

If Angela weighed enough to qualify for My 600-lb Life, she'd be the one loudly proclaiming "I'll do whatever Dr. Now wants!", returning to the office two months later having lost almost no weight, then verbally sparring with Dr. Now when he called her on it. Angela comes off as one of those people who thinks she can lie her head off to trained doctors and nurses because nobody's ever done that before.

Flipping houses is one of those things that looks easy on TV but is difficult to make good money doing. You have to be able to identify underpriced properties and accurately figure out how much work will be needed and what that work will cost in order to sell the house at enough profit to make it worth your time. In addition, you'll either have to do a lot of the work yourself or pay a contractor to do it, which means you need to know whether the contractor is legit or taking you for a ride. A lot of newbie house flippers struggle to either make a profit at all or end up with just a few thousand dollars' profit to show for their months of work, which means they could have flipped burgers or worked a low-end office job all that time and come away with more $$$ at lower risk.

Yep - total lifestyle change.  I stopped going to support groups after my gastric bypass as people were, legit CRYING over not being able to stop at Burger King for a Whopper, fries and a shake, followed by a sheet cake later.  I was like, really?  Sorry to not sound helpful but this should have been worked out before hand!

Brandon wants what will make Brandon comfortable.  Period.  Reminds me of my ex husband.  "I don't want to change as I am comfortable the way I am......you and the kids?  Well......that is up to you."

Julia could find a nice one bedroom apartment nearby, furnished, at a good price, find people to help move with the trucks (maybe ZIed can help!) and he would STILL bitch about it.

Stay for a month or two. Not three days. Why get involved with a boy who lives on a farm and has no intention of moving to a big city?

They can buy or rent a home, get a smoker, and kill the pig and turn it in to pork roasts, chops, and bacon.

Getting involved in the first place isn't the question, it's why she continues to be involved. I don't think think she KNEW that he had no intentions of leaving his house. The first 3 times she spent time with him was in different countries: South Korea, France, and Iceland. He probably presented himself in a very different way. She seemed genuinely surprised that they were going to live with his family. That's on him, not on her.

I can't take Family Libby seriously at all. Their entire storyline screams fake. She was a failed actress who only managed to get bit parts, mostly non-speaking roles, and finally hit the jackpot playing a caricatured version of herself. They sat back and watched how the Family Chantal was able to get a spinoff and now they're replicating it. Her who family is made up of famewhores. They all have Rated X Only Fan pages.

At some point my money is on Andrei getting fed up with playing the lazy slob always asking Chuck for money, and all of this will come to a stop. In the meantime, they're playing it up as much as they can.

Maybe she thinks that life in the US will be better. Maybe she is naive to believe that he will change. People do - when they want to. You cannot change anyone. He should have been upfront and openly told her that he wouldn’t be able to move out of his parents’ home for 1-2 years and that things may be rough. She could then have decided to stay or go.

Yeah, he may have been dishonest about his financial situation upfront.

Instead of berating her he should clearly lay out their financial situation and explain what they have, what they can afford, what moving would entail, etc. Moving in the US may differ from moving in Julia's province. She may not fully grasp the expenses of security deposits, moving trucks, movers, turn on fees for utilities, etc. If on one side of his mouth he's saying "I'm making lots of money now" and on the other side "we can't afford to move" then I could understand her confusion.

Eh, if she can hang in there 1.5 years then she can get her greencard, divorce, and go to wherever she wants.

Yeah, @mamadrama, Brandon can easily spend an hour looking up apartment rental costs in the city nearby, show her his monthly pay and add up rent, utilities, cable, Internet, food, etc. costs. He isn’t like Jovi, who can support Yara and afford a decent place. Staying with his parents for X time can let him save some money to buy furniture, household stuff, etc. and then they can move. Honesty works wonders . When she gets her work visa, she can contribute and they will have more comfortable living arrangements. Providing that they don’t have any kids for a couple of years.

Away from home Brandon was probably a different person. And he told Julia a slew of lies.

Oh I'll bet money that Brandon never, ever let on that Julia would be consigned to a life of hog slopping and chicken feeding, under the watchful eyes of his smothering parents. The thing that alarms me the most, though, is that Brandon talks smack about Julia behind her back, and does not defend her. Before we even met her he told the audience that she "has a temper" and "is hard to please". Julia may not be the most cheerful, uncomplaining, patient soul ever. She's not happy about being an unpaid drudge and living with her in-laws. But I've never seen diva behavior, or any signs of an especially hot temper. When his parents dis her, he just sits there with a shit eating grin on his dumb face. And when things went south at the tell all, he did the same. He sat back and enjoyed her discomfiture. Have I mentioned that I hate that grubby, smirking worm?

Yes to all of this. He's a shit stirrer that's constantly throwing her under the bus. I can hardly stand to even look at his face.

Ha ha ha!  Michael is worried about Angela having surgery, because he's afraid she'll either:

A)  Look so beautiful that she'll dump him and that all his time spent jumping for her phone calls is wasted, or

B)  That she'll die on the operating table, and that all his time spent jumping for her phone calls is wasted.

He's way overestimating the amount of work that any doctor can do.  She'll never be anything more than a slightly slimmed-down version of her cackling, saggy-skinned self.

These assholes again... I'm just watching so I can participate here and know what the Reality Gays are talking about on their podcast.

There's hardly anyone on this season that I can stand. I don't mind Michael (Kehinde not Yeti), but words cannot express how much I did not need a scene about the contents of a diaper or related sound effects. They don't even have kids, but we still need a baby shoehorned in because the viewing public apparently has baby fever? Note to Discovery: I do not.

Additional note: is there something about a Nigerian baby that makes it okay to show its bare, soiled ass on TV? You know that's a future adult, right?

Asuelu is stupid. Not looking forward to another season of comments about the nonexistent "Asuelo," but it will be nice to commiserate about what a stupid fucking idiot he is. (Just think: Asuelu, like Babalu or Desilu, from another insulting TV caricature of a foreign husband.) Kalani, girl, I know you fancy yourself a Pacific Islander Kardashian. Take a cue from Kim and File. For. Divorce. You don't want to be a Khloe, do you?

Brandon's sense of humor is such a red flag to me. Life is too short to waste on people who think it's funny to trick you and laugh at your disappointment. Julia, girl. Take a cue from Kalani and file for divorce. You can move to my big city in Texas. I'll take you to fun places and teach you the difference between "he" and "him."

I wonder if Discovery would consider partnering with Viacom to produce Marriage Boot Camp: Family Edition: Reality Stars: Divorce Proceedings: ESL Lessons. Get Dr. V and Dr. Ish in there and act out some funerals. I'd love to see those themed bedrooms -- MAGA and cake for Angela and Michael, Samwan Gift Shop with all the beds jumped on with dirty shoes for Kalani and Asuelu, Hot Tub Swingers' Club for the Elves on the Shelves from Dinwiddie, Orthodox Cathedral/Firecracker Fish Pond for Big Mike and Nyetalie. That is literally the only way they could get me to pay for Discovery+.

You know those people who punk their partners or kids by putting a block of wood in an iPhone box and giving it to them for Christmas? Brandon's one of them, I'd bet my life on it.

I think some folks forgot about acting on this episode.  For example, Julia used "he" correctly in a place she would normally use "him".  Yeah, she could have learned a little, but my bet is on the fact that the constant "him" was a put on.  And Nat and Mike seemed to keep forgetting they "hate each other".  For sure they are both whack jobs, but I think SOME (not all) of the bs is bad acting.  Also, and forgive my pettiness, but Julia, please whiten those teeth!

That is really REALLY unhealthy.  And mean.

I teach ESL, and "he/him/his she/her/hers" (along with "in/on/at") are really hard for English Language Learners... we spend HOURS AND HOURS on it.

I don't really like the couples on HEA, but then I think about who could have been on (Coltee! Paola! Baby Girl Lisa!) and I think "okay, I'll just have it on in the background..."

Grade A a-hole for sure.  And when you say something about it it's "oh it was just a joke can't you take a joke?  Don't you have a sense of humor?"  I see it in his parents and in Brandon himself.

I'm ok seeing the couples we haven't seen in awhile (Angela & Michael, Elizabeth & Andrei, etc.) but please get me off the crazy train that is Mike and Natalie etc.!  Why have we got to see them again?!

I can't find the thread for Pillow Talk so I'll just say it here:  I am SOOO HAPPY it's back.  I just can't bring myself to pay extra for Discovery + as that is the only show I'd watch.  I didn't like most of these people when they were on their own shows but they are much more likeable here for some reason.

Baby Huey is not a normal 25 year old.

He is just awful in every way.

I absolutely can't abide the sound of Baby Huey's voice (the only other voice that has annoyed me as much as his is Amira's high-pitched whine).

I also cannot stand the sight of his dopey face.  It's like looking at an Easter Island head statue, only not as artistic.  His droopy eyes and pouty mouth which clearly show how resentful he is of his life in the U.S. (or more specifically, with his wife and her family).

I was utterly appalled to find him jumping on the bed and throwing his two dirty, snotty brats around on the bed as if he owned the place.  Does he do that at Daddy Low's house?  I don't think so.

No surprise that his contribution to the discussion about their purchasing a house amounted to his wanting the yard to be large enough to accommodate volleyball.

This loser has not evolved beyond that issue which caused so many problems in the past with his exposing himself and his family to COVID by continuing to play with no mask protection, and then come home to his family.

At the prices that Kalani was talking, you're not going to get a new build with a big yard for that price.    You would have to get an older house, out of town.    And during a pandemic, Asuelu, Baby Huey, is going to have constant volleyball, and dance stuff in the yard?    Neighbors will love that, and all of the extra cars?   Nothing like having big group events during a pandemic.   My suspicion is that the producers will rent something for them, so they can film.    I wonder if the HOA where they were filming before said they were done with the disruption, and traffic?
