He lives in Vegas, and works at a hospital under Valley Healthcare Systems. He more than likely got a very nice sign on bonus.

I don't know anything about how the military works but if he is in the USAF, is he working as a civilian? Especially if that is the case, as a nurse with an MS, in a larger urban area, I'm sure he could be earning $100,000 annually - especially if he works nights and/or weekends.

In any event - good for him! The world needs more good nurses! And he is certainly a more productive member of society than his father.

Yeah I saw this one! How ironic that they were all forced to move from Vegas to Flag in 2018 (way to go Robyn) and now Kody wants to go back! They’ll have to sell their land and their mansion to afford it. 

House prices have gone up drastically since they left.

I have thought for a long time that Kody is under the impression that he is the star of the show and the women are just the supporting characters. Are Hunter, Paedon and  Garrison still in the military or have they completed their service?  Because I agree Hunter would not be paid the same salary in the military as he would make in private life.

Military family here: salaries are solely based on ranks and years of service. An officer in the logistics department will get the same wages as an officer of equal rank in e.g. ATC. There are extra allowances for when you deploy or in shifts (though not always, depending on what field you’re in) 

Medical personnel, personnel in ATC and flight crews make way less money in the armed forces compared to their civilian counterparts. So, why do they choose for this career path? Simple: The forces pay for college/your training, you have a guaranteed job (which can be hard in aviation) you gain a lot of experience, there’s free health care and guaranteed housing. Most will eventually retire once they have fulfilled their obligations towards the military and move on to better paid, regular jobs in civilian life. Hope this clarifies a lot.

Not sure if Hunter’s still in the USAF. I’d say he is, as he will be obliged to serve for a number of years after graduating if the USAF paid for it. He could be temporarily assigned to a civilian hospital for a number of reasons, including specialised medical training.

I learned when I was a kid. We hunted and grew almost all our food. Older kids would get out of school for hunting season. We also had a wood burning stove and I had to learn to split wood and, when older, use chainsaw.

I have absolutely no knowledge but Kody strikes me as the “I tell my kids not to touch the guns so they wouldn’t dare” and then he leaves them easily accessible. If he locks anything up at all, I’ll bet it’s to prevent theft. He just seems like a jerk that way.

This! And he allegedly sells semi-automatic guns. That leads me to believe that he is either absolutely ignorant or deliberately turning a blind eye to all dangers involved as he apparently stores a lot of it at home. Not even in a safe area??

If you're a nurse/doc/medic in the military, are you permitted to moonlight?  There's always a need for people to pick up shifts and most people do it to pay back their student loans.  

So if it's allowed he could certainly supplement his income in a big way. I can totally see it being prohibited, though.

Good question…don’t know about medical professions. I’ve never heard of this but am aware of some moonlighting in security (bouncers at night clubs) but that’s only done with the military’s approval and not that common. A lot depends on your rank and military duties.

The more I think about it, the less likely it seems to me that Hunter is working in a civilian hospital. The one exception being an internship within a specific medical field that cannot be done in a military facility.  The opposite happens a lot though: civilians working for the military, particularly in medical facilities.

Valley Health care Systems seems civilian. That really does surprise me, to be honest. Hunter graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2020, which comes with an obligation to serve 5 years in active duty and 3 in the reserve. Technically, he should still be serving and the military is depending heavily on civilian doctors and nurses to keep everything staffed. So, I’m not quite getting why he seems to work in a civilian hospital and not in a military facility.

Anyway,  I’m glad he managed to take care of himself, got a good education and found a good job without being in debt. Makes you wonder where he got that from! The work ethic could be Janelle’s, but neither Kody nor Janelle are known for sensible financial decisions!

I have he feeling that Kody thinks all of the show money is “ his” money— that the family pot belongs to him because he is the head of the family (and the “star” of the show in his own mind). If the budget for the show is fixed, he likely sees any money going to other’s contracts as somehow being taken from him.

I think it depends a lot on 1) what type of degree you have (AA, BS, MS, PhD.); 2) what setting (doctor’s office, public health, school nurse, hospital) and 3) geography.

My son is a nurse. The last 3 years he is getting constant raises, incentives and bonuses to not lose him.   Nurses are leaving and it has been very difficult to keep staff.  He is burnt out!
