When I saw that Newt was going to be on today, I decided not to DVR it. Now seeing that he was a guest co-host I'm even more thankful that I didn't DVR it.  I won't be looking online for either.   If TPTB are trying to kill the show, they are doing a good job.

Sounds exactly like the last time he was on. Lies, smug smirks and no one pushing back on his lies.

There was way too much chumminess for my taste, but all of the hosts actually did push back quite a lot against much of what he was saying.

The View should be ashamed of themselves for giving a platform to that POS today.  I am so angry and they treated him like he was an honorable statesman.  He lied, obfuscated , made excuses for the dear leader and the ladies did not push back at all. Whoopie made corny jokes, Abby was bland and Sunny's tepid pushback. I noticed that Whoopie was very nice to Sunny, I guess the viewers going after her on tweeter for her treatment of Sunny must have gotten under her skin.

I loved the show yesterday because of Nutmeg's absence. I agreed with Joy and Sunny's assessment of Tulsi Gabbard.

I can't figure that part out. NG is a disgusting liar. I don't mean they have to be rude to him but the way they treat him so freaking bizarre.  He's just vile and spreads lies and they giggle at his BS and treat him as you said an Honorable Statesman.  Wtf?

That's really good to hear. I couldn't look at his smug smirking face 🤮

Others here disagree, but I know, for example that there were at least two instances where Whoopie stopped him and told him that he wasn't answering the question she asked.

Now, of course, none of the pushback phased him at all, and he just continued to double down on what he said, since he's one of those smug people who thinks they know better than everybody else.

His smirk said these poor snowflake liberals, I feel so bad for them that they are not as enlightened as me.. Newt normalized extreme partisanship in the congress during his tenure, so it was unsettling to see the ladies so chummy with him today..

What were they thinking having that lying POS on today. He is just as vile as you know who. I just fast forwarded through the entire show until Ed Norton came on.  I am totally down to see his new movie, he is such a great actor!

It's probably the trait I hate most in people, because smug people generally have no business being smug.

Yep, it's been said that the era of Congressional incivility began when he was Speaker of the House.

The entire show with Newt was offensive, but most offensive was when Whoopi was talking about Trump and what he did to separate families at the border.  Newt said that was not good, but what are you gonna do when you have 30 or 40 million people trying to get in (WTF?).  Somehow this led to Whoopi saying Obama sent more people back and she started to say something like:  but he did it with.....

Newt interrupted her and said "with dignity?" and then he ROLLED HIS BEADY LIZARD EYES!!!!! 😠

I actually thought Abby pushed pretty hard on Newt compared to her usual tactics, but he kept shutting her down. I have to assume there is bad blood between the Huntsmans and the Gingriches, caused she stepped outside of her usual namby pamby approach.

This was remarkable.  I have never seen Whoopi be genuinely nice to Sunny.  And thankfully Sunny didn't do the aw shucks cutesy face, but used it as an opportunity to talk seriously about her new show.

Of course, Shooter Jennings will play for her birthday and will likely be the Godfather to her children Bullet, Shrapnel, and Gunny. Let us all pray to ABC that Erica Jayne doesn't make a surprise appearance.

That’s hilarious.

Sunny very gently disagreed with him.  It's disgusting.  They are all laughing at his lame jokes and letting him get away with lying and obfuscating.  I plugged my nose and strapped on a vomit bag and continued to watch.  It got worse.  He is lying like a two hundred year old rug.  Some of his points - Trump did not engage in a quid pro quo, there is a witch hunt against this poor man, there is no ethnic cleansing of the Kurds, what else can we do with all these refugees but lock up the children, and Trump has changed history in a good way.  It's really horrific, and I feel like I stumbled upon Fox News.

Those weren’t his points. Sunny called herself listing things Trump has done as if it proves itself and Newt disagreed. You (the general you) can’t bring up talking points and then be a bad sport when someone disagrees. It’s childish, and more to the point, you have a guest on your show. If they had just yelled at him and talked him down, other Republicans would get the signal not to go talk to the shrill yentas on The View. Plus, you (the general you) can’t spend every day whining about Trump being a meany-head and then can’t sit through ten minutes of a Republican expressing an opinion you dislike without getting obstinate and rude.

I tried to watch..I really, really tried. I had to nope right out after about 15 minutes...he infuriated me.

Same here, after 15 minutes I turned off the TV.  He makes me literally sick to my stomach.  Such a hypocrite, but acts so sanctimonious.  I thought Whoopi did a good job of challenging him on Not answering her questions but talking around them.  Sunny tried to push back, but her remarks seemed weak, to me.  I know I should listen to 'all sides", but this man has nothing worthwhile or true to say!

You all have saved me time today as I just deleted today's show.  It infuriates me that they asked that hypocrite to co host, even if it was a last minute decision.  It was probably done in part to minimize any pushback they may be receiving for asking Chelsea Clinton to co host last week.

I truly thought he was just going to be a guest today like Edward Norton was. Not co HOSTING the whole show! This is so bad on ABC's part to have that fool there, I have no problem with conservatives there but Newt Gingrich is a bumbling fool, he makes Airhead Abby look like a rocket scientist.

FWIW, I heard him make these same points.  Additionally he said the thing about what is Trump supposed to do when 30 - 40 million people are trying to cross the border.  And he for some reason deflected to Hillary and her server as a way to excuse Trump, but Sunny shut that shit down.  He did say that Trump has done some stupid things (G7 at Doral), and some of his tweets but overall his message was that Trump is being persecuted non-stop.  Abby is even the one who said Trump brought it on himself (she shocked me today) and he partially agreed with that but he said that Trump is an historically important President.  He never really explained that but he said it a couple of times.

Plus the idiocy about white people being lynched. 🙄  I guess that is his version of white lives matter too.

I wonder if Newt is thinking about running for office again. He’s certainly cozying up to the deplorables based on the things he said today on The View.

And then today, Republican Abby was shaking her finger and scolding Democrats for not liking Tulsi Gabbard. Why? Why should Democrats listen to the Republican Daughter of another failed Republican candidate for advice?

Tulsi has ties to many unsavory, far right characters who have endorsed her as Sunny said yesterday. She is an Assad apologist, to be fair Baba Wawa was as well and she is aligned with far right Hindu nationalists.  I could go on about her but it would be off-topic.

I wonder if the spate of recent absences (Joy being sick when Newt is on, and Meghan taking a personal day when Rand Paul was on) are just not wanting to be in the presence of those they despise?

It does make you wonder.

I've also been wondering if Meghan asked ABC for time off to take a vacation right before her birthday since Joy took a vacation for her birthday.

I noticed last week and again today that they are not using their new mugs. Is it possible that Whoopi nixed them because she didn't like the idea of her "opening the cab door for Abby?" (I'll go with that until I'm told otherwise. 😉)

Well, they are still selling it on their website.  But I agree that Whoopi banned them from the table.  And rightly so.  The marketing people didn't think to run it by at least Whoopi and Joy?  Not a surprise based on my experience of working with marketing folks!

Anndddd no Joy?!

I’m not even interested in watching clips of yesterday’s show and based on most of the comments here, I made the right choice.

Shooter Jennings is kind of a polarizing figure in country/alt country/Americana circles,  but he IS still Waylon and Jessi's son, and it's definitely a HUGE step up from Erika Jayne. I will hand it to Meghan: she DOES like some very good/interesting country artists.

Paul Ryan's birthday "tribute" to MM was the biggest pile of B.S. that he could possibly fit into his allotted time.  Blech!!  Palate cleanser please.

AND THEN, poor Miss Meggie was unable to contribute to the political conversation because ... it was her birthday!!!  WTF???

I can't recall EVER turning off the TV (perhaps with a flourish) and leaving the room because of someone appearing on a harmless show.  NEWT galled me!  He actually defends a white man's casual use of the word "lynching"?   That bag-o-blubber continues to think he's the smartest kid in the room.  (I'm fat!)

P.S.  On TMZ Live, Harvey tried to 'splain away Trump's use of the word and the disgust on Charles' face (a Black man) was enlightening.

My husband texted me this morning after he got to work to tell me that a house around the corner has their Christmas lights up.  And on.  Further proof the world has gone mad.

High fives to those of you willing to tune into a Birthday Celebration for Meghan Fucking McCain.  You all have much stronger stomachs than I do!

Hmm, if it being her birthday gets Meghan to be this short and succinct about what's going on in Washington, maybe she could pretend, for those discussions at least, that every day is her birthday.

I wonder if Whoopie knows that Abby is about a year and a half younger than Meghan (who she called "the baby at our table").  In a way it's understandable - Abby is so much more mature.

Am I missing something, or is this Cameron Douglas interview not working very well?  It seems like you need to have read his book, like the hosts did, to be able to follow everything he's saying.

Meghan's going to be pissed off when she finds out the rest of her birthday show was preempted by Trump.  (I was watching MSNBC before this show, and this speech was scheduled to start 40 minutes earlier.  I didn't think ABC would be carrying it, though.  I'm kind of surprised; they don't carry all of his White House statements.)

I guess Trump did ruin your televised birthday celebration after all!

You know that’s why he did it , right? Because, he don’t have anything else to do!!  I caught 30 seconds of Gina nd he was still talking about the one that got away- President Obama!! Lol
