I wish on the Monica episode (woman with C.Diff) that Dr. Phil had asked if her doctors had ever put her on TPN. That is when you get nutrition through a tube or a port. Its for very sick patients.  I think her answer to that would have been interesting. I feel like Dr. Phil didn't do a good job with this case.  He could have hooked them up with some therapy or something. He basically just said "do better, bye!"

I don't know anything about C. Diff or Fecal Transplants, but it does appear to be a known treatment for severe cases of this condition and apparently has good outcomes.

Ratings sweeps month in February (they do that in November, February, and May), so I'm guessing we'll get the Catfish, and other juicy episodes next month.    Until then, it will be reruns, and boring new episodes.    I guess I'll just have to find the Catfish reruns on OWN until the schedule on first run episodes gets better.

I feel like he has been doing this a lot lately.  Most of the episode is spent going over the issue at hand and letting the family members verbally argue while he rolls his eyes to the audience/cameras, then - the episode either ends or shifts to a fun new gaming app and I'm left with "wait, what did I miss?"  If I'm confused, I imagine the guests are walking off wondering why they wasted their time and energy exploiting their private lives and shortcomings on national television.  One of the recent out of control teenagers was destroying property and stealing everything that wasn't locked up and Phil hooked her up with a life coach.  Something tells me that was a recipe for further disaster.

Today’s episode with the girl accusing dad of molesting her, wow what a storm of batshit crazy and therapist manipulation. “Recovered memories” are false. So well proven now.
Did mom seem kind of drunk? Never a good sign when you are your kid’s best friend.
Surprised he did the full hour instead of pivoting quickly to an app or face cream.

The episode continues tomorrow, so there's still a good chance he'll spend the last 10-15 minutes promoting something.

This is Dr. Phil at his best. I love when he does serious work with one of the guests. That's what the show is supposed to be about. Dr. Phil is in his element, you can see clearly how he really gets into his counseling. I would have liked a bit more information, though when Taylor said her childhood was toxic, etc. and her mom said it was, in her opinion, ideal. My question: Besides the alleged molestation (which came up as false on the lie detector), what else happened where she sees her childhood as toxic? Great show.

Agree. Second day he actually offered help instead of saying, “You do better, okay? Now my wife Robin will tell you about…”

Dr. Phil said the most honest statement today.

{Paraphrase} There’s a show on CBS that’s about my life before this.  It’s called Bull.  I was a consultant with courts, judges and jury selections.  CBS Thursday nights at 10:00 watch it.

Bull.  Dr. Phil’s life.  Yes indeedy.

Dr. Phil went light on therapist-mom yesterday. He usually starts blaming the parents but didn't go after her too much. The story though, about the dad committing suicide in such a horrific way and the daughter being a victim of sexual assault, in addition to weed kid just shows how messed up this family is and that they need a lot of help. These kids don't want to talk to their therapist mom about how they are feeling because it has a perfunctory quality about it.

Glad that Dr. Phil comped a scholarship for weed kid if he can straighten up. Better than a drug rehab. Hope he makes it.

Next week includes another "went from", another violent teen and a debate about gender and pronouns:

Quote

1/17: Surviving Evil

Tony Fort says that, when was 10 years old, a family friend gave him dangerous, addictive drugs, telling him it was candy, and videotaped him being sexually abused; the man followed Tony's family when they moved away, and he eventually abducted him.

1/18: "Surviving Evil" Kidnapped and Abused: Former Victims Speak Out

The dramatic rescue of 11-year-old Tony from a convicted sex offender; Alicia Kozak says she was 13 when she was lured from her home by an online predator and placed in a dog collar, chained to the floor and horrifically abused.

1/19: The Gender Pronoun Debate

People say they do not identify with gender binaries of "he" or "she" and prefer to use pronouns such as "they"; a guest raises their baby as gender neutral.

1/20: Our Teen Refuses to Let Us Parent Him

Parents Suzette and Greg say their six-foot-two, 300-pound 16-year-old son, Dawson, is violent and abusive whenever he is told the word "no"; Dawson's sister says her parents created the mess they are in now from the moment he was born.

1/21: My Husband Accuses Me of Cheating With Over 170 People

Zachary suddenly appeared to change one day, from being a normal husband, father and son, to having paranoid delusions, saying people were following him home from work, and accusing his wife of cheating with family members and U.S. presidents.

And speaking of "went-from's", for some reason the title of today's episode has changed from "Our Drug Addict Sister Is in Denial!" to "My Sisters Are Wrong: I Am Not a Drug Addict".

This video is rather old, but it's funny.  It shows how insecure the old mandated reporter actually is.

If the violent footage was despicable, why did Dr. Phil show it? Methinks it was when he realized the guy in the video (with hair) was the same one in front of him wearing a bald cap and dressed like him that made Phil shut it down.

1/27: From Divorced Family to Drug Addict

I have to be fair and say today’s show about the deluded husband restores some faith that Dr. Phil can still do some good. I’ve always thought Dr. Sophie was a solid guy and together they came to a resolution that protects the kids and might help that poor husband come to his senses.
No face cream or bingo apps, but I still cringe at his wife’s podcast logo.

Today's show has the title "Paranoia, Jealousy, and Wild Accusations", with the description  "Steven thinks his longtime girlfriend, Danielle, has been hiding secrets from him: he has proof that she has been prostituting herself and is involved with dangerous people who are forcing her into a dark world of sex and drugs".

These types of shows are becoming the new 'catfish" episode - one spouse going off the rails with outlandish claims.  I recall at least a couple of them in the last few months, including the one from last week with the husband who was sure his wife was having affairs, that his child with a heart condition was not really sick, etc.  Today's show is basically a repeat of an episode I watched a few months ago with a woman (ex-beauty queen) who thought that she was being raped by mystery men, trafficked to Mexico on a regular basis, that her own son was molesting her.   Add on the episode where a man believes his home is bugged and his wife is unfaithful and on and on.

For some reason I cannot remember what Phil determined to be the cause for most of these delusions.  I know that in the case of the delusional husband last week, he ended up walking out of the taping and Phil told his wife that he is dangerous to be around the kids, but I'm blanking if they got to the possible cause of his issue and I can't remember what he said for the beauty queen either.  I wonder how the show today will end... some vague semi-medical gibberish that Phil spouts just before he shills Robin's crap cosmetics?  If he gives a real diagnosis, I will be surprised.

I also don't have any snark for Dr. P on this episode.   It sounds as if he thought it was caused by prescription drug abuse.   He handled the guy pretty well.   I like Dr. Sophy and hope he has a plan for this guy.

What's on tap for the first week of sweeps? Unfortunately, no catfish.

Quote

1/31: Traumatized by My Police Incident

Tyler says that after losing control of her car and hitting a tree, she was arrested, tased and thrown into jail; her mother says Tyler has to live with her because she suffers from mental illness due to the incident and is unable to leave the house.

2/1: University of Michigan Sex Abuse Scandal

Three former University of Michigan athletes say they are victims of one of the biggest sex abuse scandals on a university campus: late athletic doctor Robert Anderson is accused of preying on young athletes and students under the guise of medicine.

2/2: U of M Sex Scandal: What Did the Football Coach Know?

Ex-University of Michigan athletes say the team's doctor, Robert Anderson, sexually assaulted them; coach Bo Schembechler's son makes the same accusation; Trinae Goszcar, who survived abuse at the hands of Larry Nassar, inspires the men to speak out.

2/3: 30 With 40 Kids: I'm a Fertility Expert!

Kyle says he has fathered 40 children across the world, and 11 more are on the way, as a result of his private sperm donations; women to whom he has donated; a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, others weigh in.

2/4: Humble Yourself and Admit You're Cheating!

Marc secretly monitors his wife, Nicole, and says he has more than 200 pieces of "irrefutable evidence" of her infidelity; she swears she's been faithful, and the whole thing is in his head.

Today's episode? Pointless.

Will they do an update once they get the results of the MRI?  The recent episode with the husband who thought his wife was having sex with 170 men, was being blackmailed by a motorcycle gang, had an infant son having unnecessary heart surgeries, etc. agreed to have MRI and let the Dr. Phil team review it.  I’m curious as to what they’ll do, because you can’t change someone’s mind about their delusions.  I wondered if it’s a progressive brain disease like Frontal Temporal Lobe dementia.  I am very curious as to what is causing the change in him.  They also mentioned Adderall misuse.  I’ve never heard of that.

Next week* includes another "gone viral" topic, a possible narcissist and a timeshare scam:

Quote

2/7: Help, Dr. Phil, I Think I'm a Narcissist

Dr. Phil reunites Bill, who believes he is a narcissist because [he] pushed away almost all of his loved ones with violent fights, cruel words and selfish behavior, with his brother Tom and daughter Bridget, who have both stopped speaking to him.

2/8: Survived Electrocution, but Barely Living

After surviving electrocution, Carly exhibits odd and extremely troubling behavior; her stepdaughters say she is faking it to further gain their father's attention; results of an in-depth brain scan.

2/9: Judge Reverses Sexual Assault Conviction: Teen Victim Speaks Out

A 16-year-old says she was passed out after a high school graduation party when she woke up and found a young man holding a pillowcase over her face and raping her; he is convicted of criminal sexual assault but a judge overturns his guilty verdict.

2/10: My Mugshot Is Ruining My Life

Yesse says that although all of the criminal charges against her were eventually dropped, they and her mug shot made it to the news and went viral, leaving her embarrassed and upset.

2/11: An International Timeshare Scam Is Bankrupting Our Mom!

A nurse says someone claiming to be an attorney in Mexico told her there was a data breach at her timeshare resort, and she was entitled to a settlement; she has sent the "attorney" six times the settlement amount due to international taxes and fees.

*If your local station that airs the show is a NBC affiliate and airs between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM, check your local listings to see if it has been moved to another time or pre-empted altogether (i.e. the show usually airs on my local NBC station at 4:00 PM but is airing at 1:00 PM for the next two weeks).

Serendipity! I'm watching an old Mandated Reporter Phil on OWN (from 2016) and got to see "Cash me outsi...how 'bout da?" in the wild! Not a clip, not a meme, but she just said it! Twice!

My sister had only seen the clips and heard about it so I made her come over and watch.

Best. Day. Ever.

I was painting while this episode was on so I may have missed some things, but did I hear the stepdaughters apologize at all for saying their stepmother was lying about her symptoms? Did I hear them say after her diagnosis that they "knew all along something was wrong with her"? If someone could clear this up for me, I would appreciate it.

They did not.  I listened carefully because I was expecting some sort of apology or comment of misunderstanding the situation.

Her sister and mother were devastated over the results of her MRI.  Doctor (I can’t remember his name) is so patient, understanding and positive.  His “let’s come up with a plan for recovery” was exactly what her family needed.

And one more thing - the two daughters laughing about their stepmother falling off the arm of the chair - it occurred because her balance is all out of whack.  Not humorous.

She looked like someone who was going to take full advantage of all that was offered to her.  I wish her, her husband, mother and sister all the best.

Thank you for this. I have a stepfather that I do not care for because he absolutely will not allow any of us girls to spend time or talk to our mom when he is not around. So I started out this episode sympathizing with the daughters. Then the stepmother came on and I started to feel differently. Those girls should have apologized to her and their father. They still need to arrange to be able to visit their dad and spend time with him alone, but they came off as assholes in this scenario. I hope this woman can get help. I was also never clear how the electrocution happened. Like I said, I was painting and mostly just listening to it and I missed the first few minutes that likely explained it. Thanks again, PsychoKlown.

Glad I could fill in the missing spots.

Like you I was sympathetic to the daughters (at first) and maybe they do have a case against the stepmom (forgot her name) for not giving her husband and his daughters space.  I can see where that would be an issue.  But I also felt they should have apologized or at least acknowledge that the residual effect of the electrocution is indeed real and not just her creating the scenario for attention.

I believe she was electrocuted by using cables in the garage for some art project.  She was clinically dead for a few minutes and her husband would not give up on CPR until her heart started beating again.

I think this was the first Dr. Phil that I’ve watched in a longtime where I did not change over to another program before it was finished.  Sad situation all around.

Today's show. This young woman is very brave to come on the show and tell her story. I think it is a damn shame, when she told her dad she had been raped, he starts crying and whining and making it about him. Do not do this to your daughters. You fucking take action like call the police, you stand by her and make sure she knows you believe her, but you don't make her have to comfort you. No, you could not protect her-these rapists are everywhere-even the judiciary.  You should have learned that lesson years ago the first time she fell off her bike. Grow the fuck up, dude. I see this happen all the time-dudes acting like someone stole their stereo when their daughters are raped. I am this angry already and I have not even seen the judge with his bullshit. Seriously, it is making my head pound.

Dr. Phil Staffers Allege Toxic Workplace, Racism, Verbal Abuse From Producers — Host 'Categorically Denies' Claims

A dozen current and former Dr. Phil staffers tell BuzzFeed News that they faced verbal abuse from senior producers, experienced racism behind the scenes and witnessed guests being manipulated and treated unethically, describing the environment as “chaotic,” “hostile” and “overbearing.” One staffer called Dr. Phil “the show about mental health where everybody who works on it has terrible mental health because our work conditions were really bad.”

Host Dr. Phil McGraw is not personally accused of any toxic or abusive behavior himself, but the staffers say it was common to be yelled at and berated by executive producer Carla Pennington and other senior employees. Some staffers say they were encouraged to play up racist stereotypes on the show and discouraged from booking people of color as guests. One even alleges that they were instructed to make sure a guest didn’t take her prescribed medication “because they wanted her to look unstable.”

Next week includes a cursed family, a teenage boy who can't feel pain, and two topics to add to the self-serving "Dr. Phil covers the hard topics" promo:

Quote

2/14: A Family Cursed?

Ida and her four daughters say they are determined to break the generational legacy of abuse, mental illness and assault.

2/15: Surprising Updates

Fran deleted a scammer's contact information, then let him back into her life*; what happened to Teresa, who was addicted to heroin and seven months pregnant when she appeared on the show; Jenny said she hated being a mother but has five children.

2/16: United States of Emergency: The Violence Epidemic

A former police officer who quit because he couldn't stand the lack of support from the media and the public, an LAPD officer of 27 years, and a criminal reform policy advisor debate what they believe to be the solution to the violent crime epidemic.

2/17: The Child Who Feels No Pain

Teen Jaxon, who has a neurological disorder preventing him from feeling any pain, gets a visit with his favorite YouTube personality, MrBeast; an orthopedic surgeon says he is rebuilding Jaxon so he can have a healthier future.

2/18: Women Abused Behind Bars

Debra and Tiheba say they experienced abuse while incarcerated; Kathy is the mother of a current inmate; a correctional officer says the public should be aware that prison guards deal with unspeakable stress; Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.).

Today was Catfish Wednesday, with the title "In Love or in Denial?"

We meet Fran, another old fool who lives under a rock, knows how to use the internet and dating apps, but appears to not know a thing about catfishing and believes that a young, hot dude has nothing better to do than court her long distance.  He strings her along with promises of a big windfall down the line, but needs regular doses of $$ from her - she doesn't see the irony of this.   No amount of family truth penetrates her thick skull.   She confesses that she's in love with the idea of someone loving her.  She got stood up several times, sold her truck and even furniture from her house to get funds to send to him.

She has even seen Phil expose other catfishers, but refuses to accept it's happening to her.   When Phil dropped the truth on her, all I thought was "sucker".  Another victim that I had no sympathy for and even their tears don't affect me anymore.

I found Friday's time share scam really interesting.  However, the victim wouldn't believe her daughters and only believed Dr. Phil after all of his hard evidence.  Even with that, she still held onto "but he paid some of the fees himself so how could he be a scammer?" about the voice on the other end of the phone.  It seems this is not an unusual scam-especially since many Americans own time shares in other countries and may not know how those governments function.  But, she also sent $207,000 to receive a $38,000 award.  Yes, I understand that people want "free" money but it seems there should be a point at which one realizes how absurd it is to send so much to receive considerably less.  The daughters did say that they were considering a conservativeship for their mother; the mother said she would go along with it but then she made several statements that basically negated that perspective.

Saw the first part of the catfish show in which a woman sent almost one million dollars to someone she has never seen.  Unfortunately, my local channel is showing premiere soccer league games preempting some of Dr. Phil's shows (I really only watch the catfish ones) so I will miss the second part of this one.

Rhetorical question:  How does someone so stupid as to sell her house to go "move in" with someone living out of their car manage to accumulate $1M in the first place???  I missed the beginning of this episode, but it appears she has no children, but some very good friends.

I know this is old news, but it occurs to me with every catfish episode.  Dr Phil presses the point "This person does not exist" ..  But (and I think I've even posted this before) there was actually a person with a keyboard typing in all those messages, including the copied lines from the love poem, and of course all the anecdotes about the construction site and that -- some actual person was typing, answering her remarks, etc.  So there is a person whom she is going to miss when and if she blocks him for good.

I wish Dr Phil, the psychologist, would recognize that there is a person who does exist with whom she was communicating.  It wasn't all just smoke and mirrors and images from the internet.

I wonder maybe if you were lonely enough, even after you learned the truth you might put some value on an utterly amoral scammer who was, nonetheless, taking the time to sit and type out conversations with you.  An utterly immoral scammer who says nice stuff is still another human being.  Hmm.

Dr. Phil did address the fact to her that she will go through a period of grieving, and yes, he has had former catfishees back on the show who claim that they continued to communicate with the catfish.  And, it happens all the time on the MTV show Catfish, where the people find out that the catfish is someone totally different that who they represented themselves to be, and the catfishee agrees to continue the relationship because of the feelings they have shared.  The MTV show differentiates in that most catfishers are not scammers trying to make money, but rather people who don't think they have a chance in a relationship as their genuine selves.

I don't think the situation regarding the married couple on today's show who never consummated their marriage got any better after they left; this was likely only done because it gave Robin an excuse to be on stage and get some more screen-time.

Speaking of Robin, I don't know how long they've been doing this, but I've noticed this week that when they first show her on camera when "Phillip" walks onstage she does this crooking motion with her finger similar to when someone makes air quotes.

Oh yes I'm sure every one has seen that.  Especially since the camera is right smack dab in front of her when she does it.  And then he does it right back.  How very original of them.

When is the audience going to be able to ditch the Robin masks?

Who the double H is going to support that idiot woman who gave all her money to the man of her dreams?

Who is going to support the Catfish fools when everything is gone is a real issue.   One woman who lost everything, and was still borrowing to send more, said something about moving in with her daughter.    The daughter said mother wasn't ever moving in with her, and I hope she stuck to that.

I saw an older rerun on OWN today.   Woman was dumped by her ex-priest husband, for a massage therapist who claims to be some kind of counselor.     Then, one of the two teen sons committed suicide, and the ex-husband is coming out and blaming the suicide on the mother/ex-wife.   Dr. Phil just sits there like a bump on a log, while the bimbo third wife, the husband's sister, and the ex-husband claim the teen's mother was glad he killed himself.     I don't understand why the scapegoat sits there and takes it, and doesn't just walk away.
