10/3: Citizen Sleuths

The mother of teen Jed Hall, who vanished from their home; how regular citizens can become volunteers to help find missing people; a past guest, who has been searching for his daughter, Andrea Knabel, since she disappeared in 2019, gives an update.

10/4: Life After Lockdown: Families in Crisis

The toll of government-made decisions during the COVID-19 pandemic: a girl who struggled with online distance learning, a family on whom financial hardships took a toll, a college freshman who feels completely unprepared for her first year of school.

10/5: Has the Body Positivity Movement Gone Too Far?

Lexi and Will say they've found freedom in letting go of the need to control their weight and instead accepting themselves as they are; YouTube personality John Glaude says he once believed in the body positivity movement until it almost killed him.

10/6: Workplace Bullying: Is It Happening to You?

A woman says that, after years of workplace bullying, she eventually quit her job; a man says his workplace bully led him to contemplate taking his own life; a woman says she was bullied when she worked for a multinational financial services company.

10/7: Transgender Athletes

Whether transgender athletes should compete against those of the gender with which they identify or those who share the gender they had at birth; Riley Gaines, who competed against Lia Thomas, gives her perspective; what the science says.

10/3 may be a keeper.

10/4-7 what a bunch of BS.   Dr. P/Robin/Mysonjay need to figure out if they are an "get help here" show or a "let's just lather/rinse/repeat" pretend news show.

I'm watching the update on OWN from 2017 for Treva Martin.   On the first show she was sent to Origins for alcohol rehab, she was drunk the second she got off the plane home.   Then she had 2 DUIs in two weeks (so who bails her out?), kicked out of sober living, and a judge sentenced her to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet and GPS tracker.    She also has 'friends' bringing her booze (and you can order for home delivery, and mail order now).

On the update show in 2017, she claims she only drinks a little, but she's totally blotto on the stage, and I want to know how is this woman financing her drinking, getting more cars, and who is bailing her out and paying attorney fees?  Yes, her enabling relatives.

By 2019 she wrote a book claiming to be alcohol free, and still claims to be sober.

10/10: You Can't Say That!

"Canceling" people from having a platform or career for sharing their opinion; a former police officer says he was fired after making a TikTok video; a political commentator recently had to be protected by state police from student protestors.

10/11: You Said It ... Now You're Canceled!

Student Alejandro says administrators at his community college violated his free speech rights; public figures fight back against cancel culture; a list of terms that are now reportedly off limits.

10/12: Harm Reduction: Safe Space for Addicts to Use

Treating drug abuse like a medical issue and providing addicts with paraphernalia, such as clean needles in a safe space, and free housing regardless of whether or not they test positive for drugs; open drug use and homelessness get out of control.

12/13: The Right to Die?

Medical-aid-in-dying allows terminally ill patients in some states to self-administer prescribed medication to die with dignity; many Americans fly internationally to use medical aid-in-dying for non-terminal illnesses.

10/14: Boomers vs. Zoomers: An Old-Age Debate

Baby Boomers believe that the younger generation is entitled and sits on social media all day, while Gen Z blame Baby Boomers for the current state of the environment and the economy; how that may be affecting their mental health.

This entire season so far is so dull to the point I'm thinking of retiring from posting these every week and only mentioning the episodes that are even slightly interesting.

I wouldn't put the time and effort into it. But, that's just me.

Maybe you should only post a "catfish" alert or (as you said) any other slightly interesting episodes (aka NONE)

Thanks for your efforts!

I used to watch the new shows and the OWN reruns almost everyday, but I stopped watching both about 3 months ago.  It’s time for the Dr. Phil Show to end IMO.

I have finally been able to break my habit of watching this show. Haven't seen any this season. I saw the promos and that was enough. I do not want to see or hear Shill discuss issues he is so insulated from and uneducated about that he couldn't possibly contribute anything meaningful to the discussions. I am only really interested if they have a catfish episode at this point and it would need to be a good one.

That guy who works in hospice but opposes assisted euthanasia needs to understand that his cheesy used car salesman grin reallllllly works against him, especially in the face of that gentleman who was so effective in sharing the sad loss of his wife.

It's the same boring topical crap we've seen since the beginning of the season. Carry on.

I've been glancing at these episodes.  I suspect that he's shifting so that more guests carry each episode for him, and he doesn't have to prepare as much.  Of course, Barnyard Solitaire and Oil of Olay are good for 15 minutes each, too.

Sounds like she's getting ready to mount a campaign for a national office.

Dr. Phil show recorded yesterday.  Tuned in today to see what kind of negative things I could see.  It was the episode about pets (pandemic, training, vet crisis).

It actually was quite good and very accurate.  (Muted Omaha Steak thing so don't know what he was hawking or giving away.).  I do several dog sports and my dogs doing them are trained by me.  The trainer that took the little white fuzzy dog was very, very good and had good training technique.   I'm glad he spent time on discussing the veterinary crisis and the suicide rate among vets and techs.  It's a horribly stressful job with much sadness intertwined with the puppies and kittens.

So--no snark from me today.

As the mom of a veterinarian, I can totally agree about the stresses most vets are under every single day. Our son has a therapist for this very reason. Please appreciate these professionals every day.

I didn’t see the vet episode, but can imagine.  Many pet owners are clueless.  It really bothers me.  Don’t get me started.

I can’t stop focusing on Robin every time they steer the camera her way.  It’s scary.  Is she ok?

I thought Dr. Phil has had a few good episodes lately. The vaping one was really interesting! I had no idea what a problem this was among kids. That mom was a mess, though. The DNA secrets one was interesting as well. Both mere more old-school Dr. Phil type episodes!

Today's episode (January 26th) about women aging was very interesting. Men can get older, saggy and wrinkled but as long as their wallet is plump, they can get any young one they want.  But who wants to "get" something in life strictly with money?

I might be in the minority but I like my significant other to notice me for being (not only pretty) but kind, witty, caring, selfless and finding beauty in everything. Maybe that's why I don't have a significant other! Lol!

I had to laugh to myself when they asked Robin what her thoughts were.  She has obviously had a LOT of work done and did a good job of dancing around that aspect.

I'm in my late 60s and have not really noticed a dramatic difference in being ignored any more than in my youth, although I didn't grow up with a supermodel's face or Sports Illustrated body like Paulina P., so I think I've been "invisible" all my life - nothing to get used to.  Men are definitely more visual creatures, which I think is why there are a lot more men addicted to porn than women.  Also, women are more critical of other women and do a lot of comparing themselves to what they see represented in the media.  We are our own worst critics.

Twenty years too late, but hey.

Well it's about time.  I haven't been able to stomach a whole episode for years now.  And last week's Robin comment that sent me over the edge:  "I'm embracing my aging."  Oh hell yea she is with all the help she can from her plastic surgeon.

I just don't know who is going to feature her Christmas trees anymore or her wide open shocked look.  Or what mysonjay will do now.

At least Dr. Phil won't have to shuffle out anymore and hopefully will enjoy spending his money.

All the mirrors in her home, her cars, her handbags, various reflections, AND the studio must have been removed...so she can continue living in her dreamworld.   Robin!  Find a photo of yourself from 15 years ago.  Compare it to one from yesterday.  Do you even RECOGNIZE those two women???

Oh wow, James has to be one of the catfish episodes ever. How can someone be that gullible? And how does he have enough money for that if he’s so, ummm, not bright?

Well frankly I do not know how anyone this naive could have made as much money as he appeared to have.  No friends or relatives to comment at all?

I'm wondering if he was just shilling Dr. Shill myself.

In the segment one day on "it's hard to find a good match if you are over 50" or something like that.

The 50ish lady attempting to have a 20ish face must have the same plastic surgeon as Robin.  That guy she got matched with better have plenty of cash.

Not sure the ending is his choice

Dr. Phil’ tried to revamp itself in final months as sponsors fled: source

I’m trying to copy a New York Post article that says advertisers are jumping ship.

I really think he’d stay even if they had to wheel him out on a gurney.  A lot of relatives need him to pay mortgages, fund inventions and keep many plastic surgeons in business.

News Flash:  Dr. Phil plays tennis everyday.  He has a tennis court on his property and his friends come over and drink beer but they're never drunk.  Uh, huh.

Just wondering...for someone who has done numerous shows about the dangers of drinking and driving...does his friends drive after consuming beers before and after playing tennis.

And I call bull on the playing tennis everyday.  He can barely walk off the stage without help and I cannot seriously see him running across a court to hit a tennis ball.

The article makes it sound like the sponsors disappearing is a recent thing, but I suspect it actually started during his at-home shows; it would explain why we started seeing constant promos for Solitaire Grand Harvest and Bingo Blitz once they returned to in-studio filming.

However, he won't be completely gone from the airwaves:

Quote

The show is slated to run through May. CBS Media Ventures, which produces “Dr. Phil,” will offer stations library episodes of the show for the 2023-2024 season and beyond. The classic episodes will include new content such as wrap-arounds and intros by McGraw, as well as guest updates.

McGraw — who got his big break on “Oprah” 25 years ago, charming audiences with his folksy takes on social issues — said his next chapter will focus on a “strategic primetime partnership” that will “increase his impact on television and viewers.” He didn’t mention problems with advertisers in announcing his decision to leave.

“I am compelled to engage with a broader audience because I have grave concerns for the American family, and I am determined to help restore a clarity of purpose as well as our core values,” McGraw said.

Will this "strategic primetime partnership" include Robin and MySonJay? Stay tuned...

One of this week's shows is why I have come to hate Dr. Phil's show and am glad it is going.  Two women with raging maniac children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD (which may or may not be correct diagnosis).

Women say something to the effect "I don't have any other choices" when commenting on things they have done.

Every condescending Phil says more than once "oh there are always choices."  Bobble head Robin nods from the audience in agreement.

Pitifully enough, I check the Dr Phil website every Saturday  to see if the shows are the same new format malarkey, and actually this Monday it appears there is a catfish show!  Who'd have guessed?  Since many had said, months ago, that they only watched those, thought I would mention it here.

(Although, so few are here these days.)  But, catfish on Monday.

I kinda think the catfishee Rachel was there for the free trip.  I think the idea was dreamed up by the friend Simone, and she got someone who could play along.  I got exasperated when Phil asked Rachel very direct questions about why Omarion didn't send her the engagement ring and why he didn't visit her when he was in NY and she would just babble "that's why I'm here, to get the truth".   That answer was very non-committal and allowed her to steer away from deeper examination of how this "relationship" got to the point it had.

Both of these women got me aggravated and I muted it midway through their interview.  I did look up and see Omarion giving some taped statement but didn't care enough to unmute.  I confess - I agree that Omarion is a hottie.

I was numb by the second guest came out to talk about her mother who gave over $200K to scammers.  Whatever, lady.

Exactly! Simone was a dud guest. Dr. Phil had to keep asking questions to this totally dunce lady, who would answer in one word answers. I mean, you are on TV and there to do a job. Offer something. Dr Phil is doing you a favor, lady. How about show some gratefulness? Yes, most people would be embarrassed by their ignorance, but Simone showed nothing. Wow. At least thank him for footing the bill in trying to find out your "truth." I don't think she was all there or was extremely entitled.

I did like her friend, Rachael a lot though.

I may have reversed the two names but I think Simone was the ignoramus, the one being catfished.

The catfishee didn't seem too dedicated to her story. Usually they're insistent even in the face of undeniable evidence, but she was more like, "Eh, okay. Guess we're not engaged."

Not as much fun to watch, and I agree, makes me suspicious that it was a scam for a free trip to LA.

Somehow I missed the news posted here about the show ending -  I saw it on another site today.   I used to be a regular viewer, but in the last 2 years I started only really watching the catfish episodes and those are going away.  I wanted to give other catfish/ romance scam fans another way to get their fix once the show is gone.

Youtube has a channel called Catfished which is run by a group who help folks who think they're being scammed - the team will investigate and give the party the good/bad news.   Most of these people aren't as dense or damaged as Phil's guests, but are just as gullible, so it's lots of older, busted men and women being hit up by hot, young people ready to marry them!

This team does not offer psychological help, just give the facts about how the scammers do their thing, like making fake passports and bogus bank statements, etc. to fool their victims.  Very enlightening.

Here's a good one

I mayhave let my mind wander (not surprisingly) during the Madeline McCann ep because I sat through 15 minutes of why she thought that's who she was, then Phil brings up the fact that the authorities have the parents' DNA and all they need do is have her DNA checked against the parents.  And  . . . . . ? ? ? ? WTH, why wasn't this done before the show and presented the results right then and there???  Either this person wants to know who her real parents are, or she wants to get some fame (along with her lip-filled adviser).  If it's the latter, I now see why this is the show's final season.

This poor girl has mental illness and was being exploited for hopeful ratings.

Hell no she's not the daughter.  And she did not look anything like her as a child either.

That "PI" or whatever she is looked like a clown.

I can't believe I watched a 2018 episode about stepfather/father Bob abusing his stepdaughter and daughter but I did.   Then at the end, Dr. Phil tells both women that if Bob gets treatment, and apologizes, that he should be allowed around their children.   Is he kidding?

There is no reason on earth for convicted, registered sex offender Bob to ever be around anyone's children, especially the children of two survivors of his years long sexual abuse.
