As the cast celebrates the wrap of the pilot, the looming news of a pick-up from FOX keeps them all on edge. Ian realizes his relationship with Anna might be a little too casual, Jennie thinks Wyatt might be in too deep, Tori gets frustrated with Nate, and Shay drops a major bombshell on Brian. Meanwhile, Jason and Camille come to a realization about their marriage, Gabrielle introduces her husband to Christine, and Shannen stresses over the future.

Season finale! Airing Wednesday, September 11, 2019.

The actors all did their best...but I think the story let them down. A lot of wasted time and storylines dropped for too long and then picked up again way too fast and sloppily. I feel a little better about the possibility of its not being picked up due to apparently oncoming disappointment.

I knew Brian's happy marriage wasn't going to last.

So, Jason's Zach's father?  Is that what I took from that look?  That extra sure got around, I guess.

If Jason and his wife couldn't work out their cheating problems, that would be fine.  But, I'm just not happy with the "I can't raise a baby that's not mine" angle.

And I guess Gabrielle's husband didn't leave her.  I still don't understand why this is OK. There are plenty of straight married people who are attracted to other straight people and it's generally not considered OK to act on that by calling it exploring your sexuality.  I think he should slap her the next time she calls him her best friend.  OK, not really.

If you can't afford everyone, makes sense to get rid of the highest paid one, AKA Shannen.  Or the character that isn't as connected to rest, AKA Gabrielle/Andrea.  Or the one that doesn't have as much story which would be Ian/Steve.

I think they said it was from an injury, but I can't remember when the Injury was sustained.  Presumably after Zach's conception.

It was the owner of Tori's dress.

I got the impression the ball injury happened in more recent years. Way after Zach was born.

This episode made it clear why I was disturbed by Ian’s relationship with Anna, or their hooking up. I always felt he was old enough to be her dad and their scenes together felt like a father and daughter, before they kissed.

But then they slept together. I guess in these viagra times, anything is possible

Also, I thought Camille lost the baby, since she was in the hospital last episode, so they went from the hospital to vacationing on an island?

I have to agree with Shannen here.

That had me 😂😂😂😂😂

And the comments about the chemistry between Jason and Shannen was a shout-out to what people were saying when the show premiered originally!😆😆 And then we got Shannen’s nightmare, which she tried to erase by thinking pure thoughts!!😂😂😂

Denise looks like she has been hitting the botox. As soon as I saw the writer said her mom was an actress, I knew it would be her.

Yeah, that story line is weak. Her husband's nicer than I would be.

I thought they were gonna explain Shannen's eating?

Even within the context of this show's universe, this episode was a disappointing hot mess.   With the exception of Shannen, everything and everyone else is a major disaster.  They're re-shooting the pilot, the stalker storyline (which could have been much more interesting) turned out to be an absolute dud, the inference is now Zach is Jason's son, and Ian sleeping with both mother and daughter was just unnecessarily gross and not entertaining.

I don’t know about anyone else, but Shannen, Tori, and Kelly coming out in three red dresses reminded me of “The Spring Dance.”

And if the show comes back, I’m thinking Christine is the stalker. Maybe. She’s been a pessimistic blowhard since the moment she showed up.

There’s just something weird about Zach’s front teeth that makes me think they’re fake.

Though that was a nice picture of Jason from season one. He was a cutie.

I was hoping to see Nat show up at the Peach Pit, though.

Ian Ziering is 55 so... yeah.

And despite all the shit Gabrielle Carteris got back in the day for being so much older than the rest of the cast, she's only 3 years older than Ian.  Just wanted to get that off my chest because it's always bothered me that people made fun of her by referring to her as "grandma" when Ian's not far behind and I don't recall anyone ever calling him "grandpa."

Anyway, I hope the show is renewed for a second season.  Some of this one was rough, but I felt like they got into a good grove towards the end and started to figure out what this was supposed to be.

Unless I missed something, they identified the stalker in last week's episode.  It was the fan who owned the dress that Tori stole in the first episode.

That was incredibly underwhelming. I don't even know what else to say about it. It was boring, and so many loose ends were just left that way. Most episodes of this have been really fun, but this one was awful.

Oh, I thought he was identified as the arsonist. The two could be mutually exclusive. He was pissed over Tori stealing the red dress. But he didn’t strike me as sick enough to mail the dismembered dolls. Plus, how did he know where they all lived?

Like I said, maybe I missed something, but since they stopped talking about the stalking once they identified the arsonist I'm assuming that that's how they're wrapping that particular storyline up.

I was disappointed that some fair writing and good acting on several people's parts was put into Gab's storyline, that we were shown that she was invested in exploring it, made sacrifices for it, set up a new relationship, told her people about it - then in the last episode all she did she essentially brushed aside with the equivalent of "meh, wasn't that important."

Ian time traveling to warn Steve off his hair and wardrobe was another great dream.  And Shannen drifting off during meditation into a nightmare scenario brought on by the test audience feedback about sexual chemistry between Brenda and Brandon.  The dreams and Christine Elise’s disdain for the cast have been my favorite parts of the series.

The rest of it has steadily run its course for me, and I doubt I'd watch if they made more episodes; the interaction among the cast was fun, but all their storylines with other characters either don’t interest me or actively annoy me.  I think it should end here; it was a good concept for a six-episode run (but only so-so in execution), and in the end they're all standing on stage together, happy to have had the experience no matter what comes next.

“Brenda wasn’t a troublemaker, Kelly was.  Kelly was a slut!”  LOL.  It killing Jennie to see her daughter enamored with Shannen cracks me up, too.

I am glad that I decided to give this show a shot, despite my lack of 90210 knowledge, it was a real hoot, even if it was rather uneven at times, especially when it came to the plot. The chemistry between the cast was on fire the whole time, I could easily just watch them all reminisce about the old days and be entertained. As far as the endless reboots of older shows go, this one has been surprisingly clever and enjoyable, and I am sad that its already over for this season.

Shannon imagining Brenda and Brandon together in bed while desperately meditating was the biggest laugh of the episode for me. Save more animals Shannon, it will make you feel better! Possums are the real heroes! That and all of The OC references. Now The OC, that is a show that I grew up on and have fond memories of! I gotta say, this show did make me want to give the original 90210 a shot!

As others have said, while not the best episode, it was fun and satisfying. I had a little shiver in my spine seeing the cast all together at the end. For all their issues and neuroses, I was rooting for them.

The best parts of the show - in general - continued to be:

  • The subtle callbacks to the original (Brenda and Brandon's chemistry - loved that they showed that scene in non-HD)
  • The brief comic moments that only happen with a cast that's comfortable with each other (Steve's flinch when Brenda showed up at the Peach Pit and started wildly gesturing with her possum-stained hands.)
  • Just the right mix of nostalgia with new stories so that old viewers are in on the joke without alienating new viewers. (Kind of like how Disney animated movies are for both kids and adults.)

I would have liked this season to be 9 or 12 episodes long, to round out the arcs more. They were a lot of stories which ultimately had to be wrapped up in 6 episodes, making it feel rushed. (Of course, I understand the practicality of taking a gamble on even 6 episodes of a questionable concept. Plus, if they had to choose between having everyone have their own storyline or leaving someone out - which was going to be unlikely anyway with each of them having a producer title - I preferred seeing everyone.)

Overall, very well done.

Admittedly, it was late last night when I watched this and I was tired from working both my jobs, but I didn't get that it wasn't important at all.  Gabby was telling her husband he's her best friend, etc, but I never got out of that conversation that she was "done" exploring and was going back to the marriage.  She even said she was still very confused.  They were just having an adult conversation vs yelling and crying so maybe that's why you felt they were just "meh" about it, but it was a refreshing change to see two adults communicate and still not really have a resolution.

For a finale that was kind of meh. Especially since it looks like it'll end up being the last episode. Last weeks episode was much better.

I loved Jennie's daughter being enamored of Shannen. And Shannen making an entrance covered in blood.  I'm okay with her storyline being she rescues all animals even the ugly the ones. She had the most drama IRL when she was on the show she probably didn't want to relive that in a fake reboot. I'm also glad we got Shannen's nightmare being about the people that shipped Brenda and Brandon.  I don't mind crack shipping of characters that have barely spoken to each other but sibling shipping is where I draw the line.

I guess we are now going with Zach being Jason's son. I'm going to assume Jason didn't have the infertility issue when he was younger, that was something that happened later on. With all the cheating, they are trying to go with this is a soap opera like the OG show was. That's the only reason for those storylines. That's the fake part of the "reality" part of this show.

I liked this reboot but I do think they tried to cram too much into just 6 episodes. They should've only gone with the stalker storyline or the secret son one, not both. Especially since the stalker one amounted to nothing. I hope they do get a season 2 with at least 8/10 episodes so they have time to tell more story.

The cliffhanger was kind of lame.  The show is picked up so the pilot must have been good, so why are they going to reshoot the whole thing, especially when Christine said Fox has no money?  Then she said they don't have enough money to bring all of them back.  How does that happen?  The whole thing at the end makes no sense.  The easy resolution would be to cut Shannen's salary since she got paid double.

I was disappointed that we didn't see any of the actual pilot that they filmed.  I thought that last act with Brenda in bed was going to be it but when Brandon turned to her I knew it was fake.

Did anyone notice that Shannen's major scenes are all with Brian?

Shannen's saying Kelly was a slut was hilarious.  I still remember Brenda's line: "If it walks like a duck and looks like a duck..."

This episode felt pretty uneven but I did laugh out loud at the end with the three red dresses. I love Shannen's zen being ever-so-slightly rattled in this episode, showing she can't escape the drama either. I enjoyed Brian, Jennie, and Tori the most in this reboot. The rest of the cast was fun too, but those three showed the most range, I thought. Yes, even though Jennie was pretty much snarky from beginning to end, she did show cracks in the facade and vulnerability as a middle-aged mother of a teen. Going in, I never would've thought I'd feel empathy for Tori Spelling, but I did. She balanced the comedy and drama well. Overall, to me, this reboot was far from perfect, but fun. I'd watch a second season, especially if a second season had more episodes so it didn't feel like a mad dash through all the storylines like this one felt.

As soon as they implied that Zach is Jason's son, I assumed if there's a next season that we'll find out Jason isn't actually infertile and the doctor made a mistake, so there will be drama over whose baby Camille is actually pregnant with...

My take was more that he IS infertile and this is his one chance to be a dad.  I don't agree with that sentiment as there are many ways he can still be a father (adoption, etc), but it's a pretty standard soap storyline.

Well, she did say they were recasting all of the secondary actors, so maybe Jennie's daughter and the actress who played Kelly's daughter really stunk up the joint.

I kind of agree, there were too many storylines I didn't care about and that the show only seemed half-heartedly invested in. The stalker/arsonist storyline was ultimately pointless. And with 7 leads and 6 episodes, I felt like they didn't have enough time to really make the characters' personal lives truly engaging, so what time they did spend on it felt kind of wasted. Why bother spending ANY time on Jason and Camille's marital problems when it's going to be sidelined for half the season and wrap up via perfunctory exposition anyway, without any real drama?

For me, the show was at its best this season when it was working the comedy, and focusing on the reboot itself. While I didn't really care about the characters' personal lives outside of that, their varied motivations for pursuing the reboot were very interesting, and I loved when they were all together. If the show were to get a second season, which I hope it does, in spite of my issues with it, I hope that the writers pick up on this and ditch all of the deadweight.

The whole point of being an extra in one of these teen flings was sleeping with the main cast.   Kidding.   Sorta

Ironically this was the weakest episode of the entire season but I am still hoping for another season.  There is a lot of potential once people get past this not being a true reboot.

It’s probably the funniest most meta thing I have seen in a long time.

Add to that, why bother having Ian be married and have his wife cheat on him. He was whining to Brian that he finally wanted to settle down. If that was what the show was going for why not have had him single at the beginning of the show?  Not ever settled down?  I mean they had Jason and Camille cheating on each other.  Ian's wife cheating on him, and Andrea cheating on her husband.  Then they have Tori's husband just being a deadbeat.  the only marital confilict I can really get behind is Brian and Shay's.  He's jealous of her success and think she's too controlling, but as far as we know they are faithful to each other, seem to really love each other and are actually providing a stable home for their children.

I feel the opposite....like they just undid almost everything that they spent the six episodes doing.  I understand the concept of drama, and some things have to stay messy in order to create drama, but almost everything in this episode was re-made as messy again.  Every single couple is on unstable ground.  Ian sleeping with both mother and daughter was gratuitous, in my opinion, Zach's paternity now seems to be shifted to Jason, Tori is making no headway financially, the stalker storyline was underwhelming for all the groundwork that was laid for it, and the pilot is now being re-shot.  Christine looks like a terrible executive since a project of this magnitude imploded.  This episode was the definition of a complete mess, but not in a good way.

I was tired when I saw it too, and I am not in fact fond of screaming and crying scenes myself. But in the last episode we see she's taken a step she was invested in when she came out to her friends. She was obviously afraid to do so but felt it was important enough to do it when we've seen she doesn't usually confide in the cast at large about her issues. And her relationship with Christine was the goad and the catalyst for that, however casual it was. And we saw her get the flowers from her husband with the implication that he's looking for a reconciliation, which she looks at best ambivalent about.

But THIS episode we don't see her exchange so much as a word alone with Christine, seeming to imply that whatever they had was pretty much over. Her husband comes to New York for the premiere, and it sure seemed like they were going to be staying in the same hotel room - though again I plead tiredness in judging, it looked that way to me. That and their cordial air together, when we last saw him marching away declaring he wasn't going to 'pine away' while she 'explored,' seems to imply they DID reconcile - offscreen. So it seems that at least two important scenes to clarify what has happened to Gab's character - one with Christine and one with her husband - were sloppily omitted, which contrasts unfavorably with the thoughtful pace of her story till this last episode. I'd've been fine with both those scenes being played thoughtfully through calm "adult conversation", but I think they should have been included.

I will say that Jason Priestley's hosting SNL episode remains an all time favorite of mine. Olympics ice skating routine, Life and Times of Johnny Hildo, Sprockets and of course a 90210 spoof with Melanie Hutsell as Tori Spelling.

I enjoyed this reboot far more than I thought I would and even with its ups and downs I hope it returns.

Also I want to add that I wish they didn't make Christine Elise's character so one-note. Every time she walked in the room, I was like, "Here we go again with another smackdown and round of insults as to how naive, clueless, delusional, etc, the cast was." I found it tedious and made her character so unlikable to me, which then made the Gabby-Christine storyline one that I cared less and less about as the episodes progressed. I get that she's hard edged but more softness would've made me believe Gabby's interest more.
