30 minutes into this episode and so far, nothing worthy of commenting about. Is this the season finale? I hope not. I need more Mediterranean scenery porn!

Who did the shot at the resort that came in a penis shaped shot glass? Brooke? Oh my. I think that if I was served that at a high end resort my jaw would drop.

It was brought to Jamie, but I think the "vessel" belonged to her and she had the server go fill it?  Not certain...

Did anyone catch the mist of what happened in Joao’s family? I caught the bit about his Dad having a gun and threatening to shoot him but his Mom and all the blood part...I’m missing something.

I really didn't catch much of it.  His mother was covered in blood?  Not sure.

I just have to comment about Kasey’s hair color.  For I girl that had been in pageants, I can’t understand how she walks around with that brassy, yellow hair with the dark roots.  It looks like it’s straight out of the box, not done in a salon.

I’m hoping that one of the recappers will get it. I’m confused as to exactly what it was about. Drinking a lot and bad memories do not equal a good time. Besides Joao it is also effecting Hannah.

I didn’t hear anything about his Dad, it sounded more like random crime, some kind of kidnapping or something.

If we're talking South Africa, it's quite common; the crime, kidnapping, etc.! ;-(

Yeah, I was kind of under the impression that it was a crime perpetrated by local bad guys.  It's been a politically unstable place for a while I think.

I totally believe Joao's story of what happened to his family being held captive for ransom by basically "land pirates". His time line matches up to what was happening in Zimbabwe at that time. Very political uprising between native Zimbaweians attacking and holding for ransom the rich "British" land owners ( who by the way had been there for generations) Very scary stuff. I have been to Botswana, South Africa (during apartheid) and Zimbabwe ( just before all of the political unrest). I got letters from people we met in Zimbabwe and they were scary ( as in flee the country and abondon your land and farms and keep your family safe.)

I don't agree with the violence, but with the unbelievable level of bigotry, racism, and violence operationalized in those countries (for those same generations white Africans have been there) that it's not surprising how angry Black Africans would be.

Hannah had a panic attack because she's falling for Conrad. She's a mess. Like a messier messy mess than needy Brooke. Like such a mess that she needs to be in therapy because this isn't a remotely normal reaction.

At least Kasey seems to have more self-respect than desperate Brooke and love-crippled Hannah.

Did Adam actually throw out ALL of the onions or was that just for show?

Jamie hacking and wheezing all episode, but not one person told her to stop drinking and maybe lie down. She sounded terrible the entire time, but these self-absorbed jerks couldn't be arsed to tell her to take care of herself.

It looks like Sandy is finally finally going to be a half decent manager and explain what her issues are.

HunterHunted, I agree with you about the history of most African counties and the history of opression and anger it causes of it's people and agree that brutal violence is never the answer. Look at Australia, Vietnam, Russia, Europe, Eastern Countries and even the United States and all of the wars and conflicts. Mans inhumanity to man. Sad for the entire human race. getting to political, hopping off my soap box!

Wasn't everyone drinking after Jamie at the resort?  If she has bronchitis she probably isn't contagious?

Hannah's panicked reaction was from Conrad not wanting to listen to her obsess over Joao and Brooke.  She feels betrayed by Brooke because Joao treats Hannah so poorly.  If Conrad had just sat there and listened to her, it probably wouldn't have gotten so bad.

I don’t think the panic attack was actually about Conrad. To me, Hannah seemed to have reached a point of being overwhelmed and exhausted and the situation with Conrad was part of it, but sometimes anxiety hits without a single cause and attacks like that are choking and I could feel it though the screen. Hannah might’ve given that reasoning as an easy sound byte but it read differently to me.

I found Sandy’s understanding behavior and little bit of advice about giving love a chance confusing and completely against character or against the onscreen character she’s been trying to portray this season.

Preface by saying I have zero knowledge or experience, but I couldn't understand why a reaction that severe wouldn't be treated by medication at the very least.

IN HER HANDS!!!  Geezus!  She's in the service/hospitality industry ffs!  Jamie needs to find her fecking elbow.

Conrad and I needed Hannah to just stfu and move one.  He had listened to her drone on about it long enough.  So had we all.

Hannah noted that she’s dealt with her anxiety for a long time and that it’s been under control. Most anxiety meds, if taken only when in attack mode, mellow you out to the point of not being able to work. Think Benadryl when in the middle of an allergy attack. If she’s able to calm herself down better the way she did, giving herself time to rest and breathe and away from people, then meds isn’t always the best answer. Works differently for everyone.

When Sandy was saying that she didn’t want Jamie’s illness to spread, all I could think was if she was contagious, it’s already all over everyone and everything. I don’t understand how everyone was kinda making jokes about her staying away from them and asking if she was okay, but not pushing her to rest, see the dr, or cough at least into her arm. I just wanted everything to be scrubbed down in Clorox after she was “quarantined”.

Newsflash Brooke wanting to be the person who changes someone and make them a “better person” is basically the definition of viewing someone as a challenge.

Given that there was already trash in the can that Adam disposed of the onions in it appears he really did toss them. What a fucking tool. Properly stored onions last for weeks and they would easily survive a two day charter. Thoughtkess food waste is a huge pet peeve  of mine, intentional food waste is beyond the pale and  cements my hate for him. He also tossed a few knobs of ginger in there.

The way Adam seemed to know exactly what Hannah’s deal was when she just said I am getting anxious makes me think that it’s something she deals with often and it just hasn’t been shown on camera before now.

I was amused at Hannah acting like Brooke was the asshole for requesting that they don't talk about her within earshot.  I was not amused at Hannah once again calling attention to the brand of one of her belongings.  I was also not amused by the barfing sounds.

I know I'm in the minority here but try as I might, I just can't with Hannah honnnneyyyyyy and her very entitled attitude.  From continuously calling out her designer clothes, to blatantly talking about someone within earshot and laughing when they ask her to stop, to trashing whichever crew member she happens to be angry with at the time to all the other crew members (remember her talking about Kasey's resume lies to every....single.....person non-stop), now it's Joao (who I loathe) and idiot Brooke she's on about.  Conrad did absolutely nothing wrong with advising her to just stop.  She reads to me like a very, very, verrrryyyyy insecure person (I may or may not have some personal experience with this before I finally grew the hell up).  I think she is a terrible manager who wields her tiny bit of authority poorly.  I have no doubt that this has been a stressful charter season but I think she brings a lot of it on herself.  If she is genuinely so crippled by anxiety that she is retching in her bunk and literally incapacitated over the smallest of disagreements with her crush, then I wonder if this is a healthy environment for her to be in.  Miles out to sea on a small charter boat is not the place for this level of anxiety IMHO.  I know many on this board think Captain Sandy is being too hard on Hannah and while I believe she may going overboard (ha ha) I understand her impatience with Hannah.  I don't think she has any kind of crush on Hannah, I think she is just fed up with an overly emotional, under performing chief stew.  My perspective may be because I am closer to Sandy's age than Hannah's but I think she is just over it.  I think she tried very hard to show some understanding and support Hannah during her breakdown and rallied the troops to cover for her, but if (as it shows in previews), Hannah takes advantage of this and spends the day partying with the guests instead of trying to make it up to her crew members then I do not blame Sandy one bit for wanting to fire her.

Yep

Hannah's anxiety was brought on by everything that has gone on during this charter season.

I'm not buying it. We see a preview of next episode of Sandy completely losing her shit because she sees anxiety ridden Hannah who can't do her job enjoying herself on a boat ride with the charter guests when she should be back to work if she is feeling so much better! Hannah has been worthless the entire season and if she's so upset over having a stew that lied on her resume and can't even make coffee then why is she sitting at the dinner table with her gossiping about Brooke within ear shot so Brooke can hear her? Hannah is a POS.

I think Hannah's symptoms were fake. A carefully crafted move to 1) get out of work 2) manipulate Conrad and 3) garner sympathy from everyone. I think Sandy has her number.

I hope Brooke's desperation is for the cameras. Otherwise she's coming off as desperate + slightly demented.

If Hannah wanted attention any for the reasons listed above, she would've faked food poisoning or another illness. She wouldn't want her anxiety issues to be filmed and become a story line.  Unfortunately, any type emotional/mental illness can have an impact or limit ones career, especially for high stress situations or industries.

I agree, I think they're true friends off-camera and he knows about her anxiety, which is why she got up and went to talk to him.

The Brooke & Joao situation is going to end badly, and I didn't need the previews to tell me that.

I also have to wonder how understanding Hannah would be if one of her stews was in the same situation.  Say if Brooke was unable to get out of bed due to a slight tiff with Joao?  I think Sandy was very supportive and I can only imagine how Hannah would react if one of her stews pulled the same thing.  We saw Hannah be relatively tolerant of Kasey and her seasickness at the start of the cruise however in her talking heads and to Brooke, she snarked about how Kasey was of no use to her and was complaining about her not being able to pull her weight.  Here we saw Sandy pull the others together to support their down coworker...I don't imagine Hannah would show the same grace to either Kasey or Brooke (although I could be wrong (I'm not)).  In fact, Hannah has continually badmouthed one stew to the other depending on who she was displeased with at the moment.  She badmouthed Kasey to any.one.that.would.listen including the captain and then was talking smack about Brooke to Kasey, right in front of Brooke's face and in fact had a snotty reply when Brooke nicely asked her to at least talk smack about her where she couldn't hear.   At least Sandy doesn't badmouth her subordinates to the others.  I think Hannah is doing herself no favors this season...If I were a captain I wouldn't want her on my crew.

Which leads me to believe (along with what other posters have so eloquently said) that the exhaustion from too many nights trying to cozy up with Conrad in a single upper berth and hang-over left her vulnerable to the anxiety.

Exhaustion really pushes the panic button but the drinking doesn't help. Weirdly enough I had the same type of panic attack last night before seeing the show.  Also weird I had a major one in the same place. But Fuck, the ship was on fire!

Jowowo treats people like shit on the regular and I wouldn't want him to drink and rant around me. I'm dissatisfied with this season and I was looking forward to seeing somewhere I have actually been.

Sandy has over corrected.

Strong agree with this. Also, many white Zimbabweans moved there only after World War II--the white population doubled between 1950 and 1965, and as far as I understand, at least some of the newcomers were people from other African countries who saw Zimbabwe/Southern Rhodesia as a place where white rule would last longer than in other countries. White rule in Southern Rhodesia was brutal. I don't condone the violence against people like Joao's family, and some of the government's decisions, like kicking white farmers off of their land, had devastating effects on the country's economy. But I can't stop thinking that one way or another, most white families moved there in the first place *because* of white rule.

I have the same perspective as you and Hannah is closer to my own age. I just can't deal with the total lack of work ethic she exhibits once she finds her self an on board fuck buddy. She seems ok when she is single but once she partners up she resorts to complete high school behavior. I don't like Hannah- never have. I think she is snotty and entitled.

Did anyone else think the editing on last night's episode was super choppy and weird?  I can't put my finger on why exactly, but it felt like they didn't have enough footage to craft the stories they were trying to tell.  The whole story that Joao told Brooke was just kind of dropped in, apropos of nothing, and half the time I couldn't tell which sick person I was looking at and it all just felt...off.

Yes I agree that the editing was wonky. There was Brooke in her one piece, then the shot moved over to someone else, back to Brooke now in her dress and on and on. I don’t know that we ever got a real version of the events. They should tell the cast no costume changes for X amount of time so at least what they are trying to portray seems believable.

About three years ago, I began experiencing fairly severe anxiety attacks.  It’s truly awful.  I was given a prescription, which just calms my brain, but I am by no means comatose.  I truly believe it saved my life.  That being said, I can totally see how someone could get addicted to these puppies.  I use mine on an as-need basis.

Hannah should have something on hand.  Given that she functions fine the majority of the time, I can’t help but think, one pill could save her a lot of pain (and yes they’re f-ing painful).

And Adam can be a dick, but the two have been on WWWL together and really do seem to get along.    He was a good friend in this episode.

Hannah :"Get my Alexander McQueen bag off him...

Me : Haha that is so funny, here use my TJ Maxx bag to build a giant tower.

I agree with the poster above, she is coming off as entitled and when she doesn't get her way she storms off like a baby.  I wonder if she dislikes JWoww because he wasn't lusting after her like he was with Brooke and Princess Pukes alot ?

Did anyone else notice when I think it was Brooke or maybe Hannah, when she got up from the chair, her padded bra was all dented in on one side, it was pretty funny.

From what I heard, Joao and his family were the victims of multiple acts of violence / crime.  One time, when Joao was 16, his mom was attacked in front of him.  She was 2 months pregnant at the time and bleeding everywhere.  The attackers also held a gun to Joao’s head. It sounds like Joao has had a lot of trauma in his past that he’s being trying to suppress.  I really hope that after filming he was able to find a good therapist to help him work through it all.

That being said, his past is no excuse for the hateful things he’s said to Hannah. However, I do now have sympathy for Joao and Hannah should just get over it.

Also, I think Joao was most interested in Brooke from the start. Once she asked him to back down, he upped his flirting with Kasey as a backup. Then when Brooke returned his feelings, after seeing him with Kasey, he then went back to Brooke, his first choice.  I think Brooke will be a good influence on Joao, she seems very kind and nurturing.  Poor Colin.  Maybe he and Jamie can get together (when she is better of course).
