The Duggar-sized Duggar weddings are a trend now. Jim Bob and Mullet can't very well give kid #12 a wedding with 300 guests when kids 1-11 had 1000 in attendance (I think Smuggar and Ofsmuggar had "only" 500, but that was before the family had their own regular show). People would talk!

The same goes for the Bateses. Their #16 will have a giant wedding because all the kids before her did.

It's obviously a disgusting gift grab, a grifting technique that even favorite Jinger engaged in.  Having said that, isn't it almost expected that the entire fundie world is invited to any and all of these weddings?  Isn't this how many of the singles meet their future spouses?

Where do you get the idea that Jinger is a favorite? It's always been said that Jill is Jim Bob's favorite, Smuggar and Jessa are Mullet's. I've always had the impression, since the very first special, that by the time Jinger was born, there were so many kids already that Jim Bob and Mullet barely took notice of her and subsequent kids. (Until Josie.)

A favorite here.

Another family photo. Sam in his carrier. No one can be bothered to hold him. He’s like a piece of luggage to them

The kid's asleep - which is a blessing in this chaos.  Why in the world would they wake him up and make him cry?  It's not like there won't be twenty-five other weddings this year.  It's kinder to let him sleep, IMO.

Wouldn't be surprising. It was popular around the time they would have been born. We might even see a third Lauren come into the mix!

In my family, there were 2 sisters in law named Regina.  We referred to them as Regina I and Regina II, and even had it written that way in my dad's obituary.

So I guess that if there were 2 Lauren Duggars, they could refer to them by their number?.

Definitely Jinger's bridesmaids in first, Anna's in second (plain but not awful). I want to say Kendra's in third, but I can't see their dresses that well.

Jill, dead last! Why would we expect something different from someone who has no class or taste and refuses to allow anyone to give her some?

I'd definitely put Jill's above Jessa's, because the color was better.  But then I expected Jessa to blow the wad on her dress, uncaring about the rest of the wedding budget.

After I saw Michelle’s hideous dress, I kept thinking, “Where have I seen this style dress before?” Many hours later it struck me. Goldie Hawn in Overboard. Kurt Russell’s sons went to the Goodwill to find some dresses for their “new mom.”  Perhaps Michelle’s daughters did their mother the same favor.

I was short AND fat?

I agree;  I like Anna's bridesmaids dresses too.  Jill's was the absolute worst.

I like the idea behind Jinger’s dresses and I like the styling of the dresses themselves. I do not like the range of colors she chose. When I have seen this idea work before it has always been dresses that are different shades of the same color (e.g. pale blue to navy) or are within the same color family (e.g autumn colors... I had a friend who did that theme and her bridesmaids were in deep red, burnt orange (it looked way better than it sounds), a deep gold color and chocolate brown). Jinger’s could have worked if she stuck with shades of red, or even the reds and the peach/beigey shades, but Jana’s blue and Jill’s bright purple just don’t look right.

Unfortunately, they will probably refer the Laurens as Ofjosiah and Ofjeremiah.

Jessa may have grown to love Ben, as "Heathen" states, but I don't think she really RESPECTS him. She has been quite flip and disrespectful to him on the show in their TH segments. I don't think it was appropriate for her to chastise Ben liking his video games. The guy is only 23? My sons who are 30 all still get together with their friends to play them. Jessa just doesn't have a clue about what young people do. Even those who love God, still play video games. I also think she disses his music style too. This, is not respecting the man. He's ass-whipped by her. Sad, as I don't think Ben deserves that from Jessa.

I don't think Jessa cared about her wedding at all. She just wanted to get out of the TTH.

I don't think many young Fundy brides care about their weddings. They've romanticized being married and becoming mothers and believe this new season of life is going to be totally awesome

I wonder if Jessa (not Jill - too dim, not Anna - too Fundy) has thought ahead 2, 3 or 10 years and realizes her life will look pretty much the same, only with more children?

The Candyland wedding was just fine in Lauren's mind and she's starting the Fundy Fairy Tale, which includes a baby in 9 months.

My mom and her SIL have the same first and middle names.  It’s confusing as hell for the little kids.

I think she just wanted to get laid... No judgement here. I get it. It’s just a shame she was forced into all that wedding hoopla when it doesn’t seem like she wanted it.  She probably would have been cool with a minister at the TTH and a slice of homemade wedding cake.  I think it’s unfortunate when brides feel compelled to have weddings for their parents or family.

Joy, even more so, wanted nothing to do with the whole wedding hoopla.

Not sure what the quotation marks are for.

I take anything seen on their show with a  very large grain of salt. Instagram and other social media is a better indicator of their true characters, IMO. Take Derick Dullard and his Twitter rants for an example.

Not every young person plays video games. I think they're a waste of time and money.

Have you guys ever been to or seen a traditional Chinese wedding? It’s sort of like the Duggar weddings in that we invite a bajillion people, and there’s no dancing.  But that’s because we’re too busy shoveling in food and 53% white liquor to dance lol.  Many people are no longer viewing weddings like this, but my family is very old fashioned (and materialistic and honestly kinda awful).

Basically your wedding is for your parents.  The bride and groom aren’t the center of attention.  The parents pick nearly the entire list and it’s expected that the guests bring red envelopes filled with (a LOT) of lucky money.  In my family, they expect $300 USD minimum.  Otherwise, you will never be spoken to again and your name will be trashed everywhere as cheap. That part isn’t tradition lol, it’s just my family being assholes.  But the trade off is - even if you are 2 pennies away from being broke, you better have big platters of meat and seafood there for the guests.  Then when their kids get married, you will be paid in kind.  Meanwhile, no one knows where TF the bride and groom are because n1crr.

My aunt and uncle recently had a banquet to celebrate my new cousin’s 100 day birthday.  They had lobster, abalone, fish, roast pork...I legit thought they were going to have to file for chapter 7 bankruptcy but they surprisingly made it all back in red envelopes.  But, their favorite gift was the Minnie Mouse romper I got them.

Yeah, my family knows that when I get married they get no say in the invites, it’s going to be 100 people, and we’re having a taco and donut bar.

My 2 favorite foods!  If I weren't married I would ask you to be mine!

Jill's dress looks really unfortunate on her in the bust area.  But she is trying.  At least they all look clean.

Looks like Lauren's dress would defraud, what with it tacked up to her rear end.  Eye trap!

Ma's dress makes her look even dumpier, as others have posted.  Too young looking for a 50-something, too.

Does Boob even own another suit?  That gray polyester look is awful on anyone.  It reminds me of my brother-in-law's hideous baby blue leisure suit, circa 1977.  Ugh.

Did he wear this stylish ensemble with white pleather dress shoes ala Clark Griswald in Vacation?

JB is obviously shrinking.  It can happen fast to older people, especially those with poor nutrition.  He's been wearing the same suit for years, so the pants are just going to get longer & longer each wedding.  By Josie's trip down the aisle, the waist will be pulled up to his armpits & he'll have the legs rolled up!  ;-)

While being pushed down the aisle in an office chair by Jana who has gone full on Nurse Ratchet by this time.

I will have to give props here. Jill, Derick, and their kids all look nice. The tables at the reception look nice, too.

Oh, and I think the bridesmaids look nice, too. I know that some people didn't think the style was flattering for some of the bridesmaids (Joy), but I like them. Compare and contrast with the hideous bridesmaids dresses that Jill and Jessa chose, and they are especially beautiful.

I don't know what kind of "gameshow" style game they were playing, but that seems unfortunate. I think they do things like this because no one has an actual thought in their head, and they can't converse with one another for more than about 20 seconds.

The games are to compensate for the lack of social lubricant, but they can only go so far in making things slightly less embarrassingly awkward.

Oh, now that would have been tragic!  The shoes were probably brown.  I can't think of a dorkier thing to wear from that time, for men.  Just the worst.

Poor Josiah wasn't smiling too convincingly.

Getting nekkid in a change room and being measured by strangers heathens the wrong kind of Christians.

Ironically, if they went to a decent bra or mastectomy shop, they wouldn't even have to undress and be measured. Most decent bra fitters (by which I mean, not Victoria's Secret) can look at you and know your size.

One of my all-time favorite movies.  I remember watching it with my sister in the 60's.

"I've written a letter to daddy" etc.  LOL

Yes, by all means Ma Kettle, dress like a 20-something.  Grandmas should definitely (a favorite Duggar word, definitely) dress like their "precious" (another favorite D word) 8 year old would.

It’s not even that difficult to do the measurement yourself if you know what you’re doing. I found instructions somewhere online (Reddit, I think) and measured myself after losing about 15lb. Eventually I was able to get to Nordstrom’s and the bra fitter confirmed what I’d come up with was correct.

The bigger problem, I suspect, is that I doubt she’d be able to find bras in the correct size at Walmart. (I certainly can’t.)

Josie would never look that pulled together...she would have yanked the bow off, one stocking would be rolled down, how would she sit still enough to have her hair curled, the sash would be dirty and trailing behind her...

You're so right. They'd also have to give her leggings and a t-shirt underneath. Oh yeah, and barefoot.

I think Joy wanted to be married, but only for the benefit of righteous fulfillment.  I don’t know that she fully understood what marriage really entailed.  Of course, if Michelle was your example, you’d be disillusioned too.  All MOTY has to do is court Boob by day, and screw his brains out by night. Who wouldn’t want that kind of marriage?
