When Whoopi said, she has been on the show many times, I think she was referring to MO but they were talking about Melania.  Or has Melania been on the View many times?

During the home schooling discussion, when Joy said, you can win the spelling bee and still be abused, and Sunny laughed and conceded that point, Elsa interrupts with this weird maniacal giggle and says something like:  I can never find common ground with you guys, and then goes on to talk about her husband's entire family being home-schooled and how he was a prodigy.  She could have said all of what she said about home-schooling without the preamble that sets her apart from them, even when she is not.

Meghan screeched "My husband was home schooled!!! He was a political prodigy!!!"  I majored in political science in college, so I guess that made me a political prodigy too. Her husband has had some plagiarism claims against him, so I wouldn't get too excited about his credentials.

Something that bugs me no end is when women tell others how so very important it is to have a mammogram, and then they proceed to yell about how painful and awful getting one is. I have very dense breasts, so I had to have multiple mammograms taken each time I was screened. It was uncomfortable, but not that bad! Nine years ago they discovered cancer. The little bit of discomfort was worth finding my cancer at an early stage.

I don't think Joy takes Meghan's ugliness towards her seriously. Why would she?

Plus Joy knows its not for long.(please please please)  Then they can once again all sit at the Big Girls Table lol

That's the same reason she didn't let Raven ruffle her. Entitled twits like Raven and Meghan don't have long shelf lives on The View.

I had my first mammo this last May. I was 52.  It wasnt pleasant, but it wasnt HORRIBLE either.  The relief of a good result overrode the few minutes of discomfort.  Thought I had heard too, that if youre bigger breasted, you dont feel it as much. As far as myself, didnt feel a thing hah! J/K I have a much harder time with the pap exam

I find it hilarious that Meghan keeps throwing out how she wants to get drunk with Joy, but Joy won't agree. That tells me that Joy sees her as just a colleague and isn't interested in socializing with her.

That is to tell  the world Joy is a close friend of hers!  Just watch, in her next job she will find reason to mention this.

PAINFUL for me. I would think the less endowed you are the more painful, because of all the pulling and pushing and squeezing that needs to be done.

( Clays a good guy because my best friend is gay and I would not ask him to come for a mammo. I get the 3-D one and it is not painful like the old ones. )  if your breasts  are dense then you do have to press them in the waffle maker harder

I call it the Pancake Press. And yay for me, I don't have to subject myself to that torture any more!

Has MT been on The View? I know WG said she has. As mentioned above I assumed WG meant Michelle Obama.

MM can dream on, there is no way Melania will be on the show.  I really can't say I'd blame her. What could she gain by being on the show. As Meghan mentioned  Melania has the higher approval numbers  (than the other Trumps), I believe it's because she stays quiet and people feel bad for her.

No, she hasn't. At least not as long as I've watched.

Her hubby has probably forbidden her to come on this show.

Joy has experienced the highs and lows of life and she will not let some trust fund baby like Megan who has had everything handed to her, bring her down. She is 75, enjoying a great salary with her husband, daughter and grandson by her side. Megan is nothing to her, but, a colleague, that she has to tolerate at work. We have all had annoying co-workers, you grin and bear it..

Actually, Joy is a model of class for me. I am taking notes. She has helped me deal more graciously with some challenging people in my own life.

My grandmother was in her late 70's when she first had a mammogram and "female exam".  My great-grandmother had died of "female" cancer but my grandmother's doctor never saw the need to put my grandmother "thru such an ordeal".  When my grandmother told my mother she thought she was dying because she had some bleeding, my mother contacted Planned Parenthood and they saw my grandmother the next day. (They did not want to give her time to back out)  After it was over, Grandma called me because she could not believe what they had done to her.  "They took my boob, flattened it out and stretched it into the next room,"  I won't get into what she said about the internal exam but it was hysterical.  It turned out she just  had a hormone imbalance.  After she was cleared she confessed that she was embarrassed by the fact that she was ready to die rather than seek out medical care.  There are so many women who are so embarrassed about getting a yearly physical that they put it off until they become deathly ill.  Whoopi was right it is a stupid way to die.  My grandmother lived into her late 80's when lung cancer took her life.  Those god damn cigarettes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I felt sorry for the male models, especially the one that told his agent, and the agent said you should of done more. A lot of sexual abusers should be very worried, but agents should be as well! They should, imho, name names...

What's really sad is that if you were a male model in a certain era (let's say mid-90s to mid 00s), Bruce Weber was, like, THE photographer of male commercial work. I think he did every shirtless Abercrombie & Fitch bag and the catalogs they did that were basically porn. You were giving up a big paycheck to refuse working with him (a la Terry Richardson).

I guess we all have different experiences, but my point was I didn't like the women on The View encouraging everyone to have a mammogram, and then exclaiming how terrible the process is, which just causes alarm and possibly delay in having  one. Mine resulted in several biopsies and surgery, and though that was unpleasant too, I'm grateful that they caught my cancer (which was very difficult to detect, as it wasn't a lump but linear in shape).

I'm a day or so late, but an observation:  whoopi, talking about the Oscars, and answering Sunny's question about whether the sex scandals will have an impact:

  • " we'll see.  It's very hard, and this is just my opinion, but it's very hard to give people what they want immediately, when you  have so many people involved in an industry, because you got to figure out who is what.  What you don't want to do is throw the baby out with the bathwater.  You want to make sure that the people you're getting, are the people  that need to be got."

And the other hosts nod in agreement, as though she not only made sense, but said something profound.  the same thing happens a lot.

It's just an example of whoopi's vague, incoherent style of expressing herself.  I'm sure I'll come up with more over time.

@backformore, I hope you do.  The word salad that comes out of Whoopi's mouth every day has me puzzled, and then I think, I maybe am getting what she is saying.  But not sure.  Transcribing her could be a fun exercise.  And then there is the Elsa word salad!

I didn’t get to watch the show today in its entirety so I’m just now getting caught up. During the segment about why evangelicals still support Trump, Sunny explained that as a person of faith she’s offended. She then says “when you’re a person of faith, these evangelicals say you marry one person and you stay with that person.” At this point, Whoopi rudely interjects with “yeah, if it works!” Why couldn’t she just let Sunny finish her point? Sunny tries to continue with what she’s saying. Whoopi says “I understand but-“ and then I hear what I believe to be a sigh from Whoopi. Still, she doesn’t let Sunny finish her entire question and says “here’s the thing: there’s only one Jesus, as I understand it.” She goes on and on about the different types of Jesuses. “And pretty much Jesus said, ‘you don’t have the right to judge. I am the judge. You don’t have the right.’” The audience claps. The whole time I’m thinking, wtf kind of response is that to what Sunny was saying? Of course Sunny gets little time to respond and Whoopi cuts to commercial break. I mean I guess I understand where she was going with her point - don’t judge people who don’t stay married to the same person forever - but she was unnecessarily rude to Sunny.

Look closer.

Her dark roots are blended with a little blonde to lessen the contrast.  She definitely needs low lights throughout the rest of her hair to soften the bleached-out, old-fashioned style.

right.  Whoopi took offense as if Sunny was saying that you have to stay married no matter what.   Sunny was just pointing out the hypocrisy in evangelicals BELIEVING that you have to stay married no matter what, and then supporting trump who seems to trade in a wife for a newer model the way some people trade in cars.

If one takes the New Testament literally, as Evangelicals claim to, they would read that Jesus never said a specific word about abortion or homosexuality. He did, however, speak out against divorce. I believe Sunny was pointing out that Republi-gelicals easily forget this, and forgive/forget about divorce and adultery when political figures speak out against abortion and homosexuality. Jesus wept, indeed.

Thank you, Catnip, for the contrast of Whoopi's reactions to Sunny v. MM.  WTF?

I know we have covered this ground before, although this selected bullying continues on the show more blatantly and more often, thus making  the show hard to watch, because that shit has happened in our  lives  at work or in our family relationships, or at least I have seen it my life. I chalk it up to the the bully's insecurity and a poor self-awareness, and limit my time around that person as much as possible,  but it's fucking annoying sometimes.  I need to breathe, or sip my tea.

IMHO, Sunny is so well-spoken snd accomplished that she threatens Whoopi's fragile ego about not being educated formally, whereas MM (aside from NOT being well-spoken, nor accomplished)  is quasi-linked to celebrity-status due to her father--- and we have all seen how different (almost meek and gracious as they kiss her butt, I mean give her accolades), Whoopi acts with fellow celebrities.

I think Sunny puts up with it because she is a confident, intelligent, strong woman of color with  respect for elders.  I don't agree with her religious stances,  but she owns them and acknowledges other views besides her own,  unlike Whoopi or MM--who are bullies about their viewpoints.

Thank you so much, backformore,  for the transcript of Whoopi's word salad.

Now I  wonder, are there "intelligent" bullies or is that an oxymoron?   Are there  intelligent bullies who try to force their views down our throats? Or is it, that intelligent/aware people don't need to, because we can see/understand their logic and have come to the same/sane conclusions--or not--as well?

Oh, and I would NEVER  get drunk with MM!  She is patently not to be trusted. Joy is too smart for that BS.

Whoopi should listen, and then talk.

Same with Meghan who sometimes hears something different than what was actually said (like when Ana asked her if McConnell should have allowed the vote on the McCaskill proposal to keep paying the military during the shut down and she blurted out OF COURSE NOT, without hearing what Ana had actually had asked her).

Love how Sunny just lets the Whoopi insults slide off her.  She doesn't get all defensive and shrill like Meghan, she (wait for it)... let's it go.

I really had to roll my eyes over the whole home schooling discussion. Seriously, none of these women know a damn thing about how it works. Parents just don't decide, I'll teach my kids whatever I want at home, because we can't afford private, or hate the district (per Meghan's reasoning for home schooling). And La La's question (ignorant) about how is it done? One of my very good friends home schooled her oldest (who had Cystic Fibrosis) for a year before she lost him. And she was sent manuals and had to complete paperwork in order to be able to home school. And it's just like regular school hours, except at home. Well, that's how she did it.

Actually, the laws vary widely by state.  In Illinois for example, yes, you can decide to homeschool your kids, and there is no required program, just very general guidelines.   Yes, some people purchase a curriculum, or do a co-op with other parents where they teach their specialties, and do field trips, library study groups, etc.   But others pull their kids out of school for behavioral concerns, or the kid refuses to attend, or even because the parents want an older kid to stay at home to babysit.  At a previous job, I was aware of kids whose "homeschooling"  was absolutely nothing, just that the parents were tired of getting phone calls from the school that their kids were acting up.

There's no oversight, you can just tell the school you are homeschooling, and that's all that's needed.    There are also some religious communities where parents are encouraged to homeschool to "protect"  kids from learning that nasty science stuff like evolution, creation of the universe, anything that contradicts the strict bible teachings.

I guess since I live under a rock, and don't have cable, I'm not familiar with Gretchen Carlson. However listening to her I presume she's the first one who claimed sexual harassment at Fox News.  Maybe if she was on more I'd learn to dislike her, but what I've seen today, I don't mind her. That said, I did just turn off the show, so there's that. LOL.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear--I was blanking on what word to use, and you provided it--guidelines. But I think she (and I don't know how other states handle it, she's from Texas) had to sign forms saying that's what she was doing. It was the vibe I got that made me irritated--that there's no real teaching, and kids get to just play around and do nothing, and that parents let them, and that they don't have a schedule to actually, you know, teach.

And I also understand the religious aspect. Lisa Welchel, who played Blair Warner on Facts of Life (as well as a former member of the Mickey Mouse Club), is uberly religious and home-schooled her kids.

Not a big fan of Gretchen Carlson, but she didn't say anything objectionable (to me, LOL) today.  But MM needs to pay attention.  Joy was saying it would be just as sexist for the pageant to have "bigger girls" in bathing suits competing in the pageant.  Nothing about bigger girls in swimsuits not being sexy.  She just looks for reasons to be offended, especially if it's a statement made by Joy.

Meghan says Miss America should let plus-sized women compete in bathing suits.  Sure - win your state pageant, and you go to the Miss America level.  But that's not going to happen.  She acts like there's a RULE that "plus-size girls" CAN'T compete.  They've always been able to compete, but social standards have said they are not "beautiful"  enough to win pageants.

And really, beauty pageants are aspirational for little girls?  Right.  Yeah.   Let's  teach little girls to give up their dreams of being anything but a beauty queen in a sash, learning to walk pretty and smile sweetly as they wave to the audience.    I don't care about the GPA or IQ of the contestants.  If you have to model a swimsuit to compete for scholarship, something is seriously wrong.

I think the sexism is inherent in that scholarships are awarded to women based on them competing with other women on physical appearance.  Men do not get scholarships for being handsome.

Alrighty. On the one hand we have Gretchen and Meghan saying it’s perfectly fine for young women (students, since it’s for scholarship, right?) to strut around in swimsuits and be exploited, and on the other hand abhoring the exploitation and abuse of the women athletes at MSU.  Anyone else see a problem here?

(Incidentally, my son works at the NCAA and says they are being inundated with angry phone calls.)
