Very much so.  It does bring up a hypothetical question.  Do you think one is born with sociopathic tendencies?  Or is it a product of environment creating the sociopath?  I think they lean towards born with due to how its coded.

I know we're going way off topic here, but yes, the evidence is that some people are born to be psychopaths. But that is about lacking the capacity to empathize with others, lacking a conscience.  Psychopaths are not psychotic, not crazy, they are not often seen as mentally ill, and don't seek treatment.  Nobody knows if this shooter was a psychopath, or had any psych history.

Laws about mentally ill people having guns would not have made a difference.  The vast majority of people with mental illness have never been violent. And, people who are violent are not necessarily mentally ill. People who have no diagnosable mental illness commit atrocities.  We can't take their crimes as evidence that they are mentally ill. Evil and mentally ill are two separate things. This guy was pissed off at his in-laws, shot up their church.

the most recent law that Trump overturned was specifically referring to people who had a mental illness severe enough that they were getting disability payments, because they were unable to work. This often means schizophrenia, severe depression, severe bipolar disorder.  That didn't apply to this guy, as far as anything written about him.

(Sorry to be off topic, this is my area, and I'm addressing questions that were posted, and correcting the misinformation given by  The View hosts.)

When discussing the church shooting, Joy seemed shocked and disbelieving that someone would carry their gun to church. There are at least two members at my church who conceal carry that I am aware of and possibly a couple more that I'm not aware of. It's not that uncommon in Texas. As usual, that piece of information they related was incorrect. The guy was not at church, but next door I think. I havent watched much of the coverage because I just can't take it anymore. For Gods sake, nobody wants to repeal the 2nd Amendment MM.  But nobody needs assault weapons.

RE MM's membership in the NRA....

I know 2 people who do belong to the NRA and are hunters.  By that I mean that they comply with all laws and licenses, they safely secure all guns and ammo, they advocate lengthy training and licensing for gun ownership and are responsible.  They want federal laws that guarantee waiting periods of longer than two weeks, they want certified training, they back restrictions based on criminal records, mental health status and age.  They want restrictions on the type of guns that are legal to be owned and want restrictions on the type of ammo that can be used.

I do trust them and I will go to my grave NOT understanding why they are members of the NRA.

I agree Morgalisa - but perhaps Joy stopped watching coverage as well after it was reported there were guns in the church as well., but not verified. The hero lived across the street from the church and flagged down a driver and said we need to get that guy. I know I am trying to avoid it too but with all the other news it is difficult to do so.

Interesting WG didn't interrupt to say she is a NRA member as well......why is she so protective of MM?

I know Whoopi is a gun owner but I don't know that she is an NRA member.

@kaygeeret - I am so with you on your post!

Facts would have been nice from the ladies, but this is the View--they do their opinions,  not the news, so I have stopped expecting real info, although Sunny brings out pleasant surprises, i.e, documents for accurate quotes.  I have shopped frequently at the Walmart where a guy walked in and shot 3 people last week, and I taught at Columbine --years after the infamous day--and my sister in another state worked at a store where a guy with an assault rifle shot several people dead (including her dear friend)a few years ago.  It seems to be a case of when, not if, we all may be in that situation. I rarely go to movie theaters (Aurora), but I plan my escape while waiting for the show. Years ago,  I used to escort patients for abortions into clinics amid angry mobs and considered how to take cover outside from car to entrance just in case, cuz a doctor had been killed by Pro-Lifers , (not at the  Co Springs site of shooting people slast year st PPHood).  I wish Joy or Sara would get their facts together rather than rely on Whoopi. Yes, i too would love to hear about what we can do to protect ourselves in a situation.

I never realized the proximity of incidents until I typed the list above. I was practical and I prayed.

I also really think Papa John McCain asked Whoopi to look after his little trust funder ...as a favor to him from the mean ole liberal ladies. At least Whoopi does speak her mind. ...sometimes for too long and convoluted, and arrogantly authoritative, but  she does stay true to her view.

Plus, You would think Meg would have better style coming from money.  What'd that old saying?   Can't make a silk purse from a ? Her hair desperately  needs low lights. Just sayin.

I thought maybe they would discuss how we will never get sensible gun control laws because the NRA donates millions to the campaigns of members of congress, oh wait, John McCain tops the list so that wont happen.

I thought this was what Joy said at one point (without needing to bring up the NRA, which goes without saying). She said she woke up in a rage over it because she knows nothing is ever going to be done. I can't really blame anyone for not getting the facts perfectly straight. It's hard to get invested in every shooting that happens every other day and which will never result in anything being done.

If Meghan McCain fixes her mouth to say "both sides" again I'm going to lose it.

Sheesh, I've tried to give her a chance but I can't take it anymore - her condescending tone of voice, eye rolling and just overall personality. I didn't always agree with Jedediah Bilah but she was at least likable and had a sense of humor.

Meghan McCain is the embodiment of the saying  "be careful what you wish for".  In hindsight, Jed was not so bad.  I could say the same thing or Paula. I liked Paula's dynamic with Joy. They really liked each other. Plus, Paula got under Whoopie's skin.   I always loved Nicole and she is awesome over at MSNBC.

Joy asked Brazile the question about the timing of the book, but IMO she didn't get a straight answer. Brazile was all over the place on that question and Sunny's about the apology too. I don't like her as well as I thought I did. Too much prevaricating and deflecting.

Donna Brazile was all over the place in her interview.   She looks like she regrets writing her book.  She may had had legitimate grievances against the DNC, lord knows I got them, as a Democrat.  Now was not the time.  There is too much at stake to reopen old wounds.

I don't dislike Paula but I'm not too fond of her, either. I can't pinpoint why exactly, but I just don't like her on "The View." I think she's secretly a Trump supporter but for whatever reason (perhaps because she's a journalist) can't come right out and say it. I appreciate all POV's but she usually defends him & it annoys me, haha.

I do like Nicole Wallace. Very bright, intelligent woman who got her point across without being rude, snarky and condescending *cough* Meghan McCain

I agree. I'm disappointed in Donna Brazile. She did a lot of backtracking and running around questions instead of answering them straight up. The timing of all of this is terrible.

I agree about Donna Brazile. I was disappointed she didn't offer any real clarification of The outrageous claims in her book.  Even with 3 segments of the show.

Donna Brazile has been in politics longs enough to know timing is everything.  She might not have had any say in when the book was released but she sure did have a say in what she wrote in the book.  Seems to be she is backtracking because of the fallout from what she wrote.  Sorry Donna the damage is already done.

Interesting, I didn't know Obama/McCain was hacked by China! Joy saying red meat, lol!

I don't like DB, never have though.MM was good today, the others were a bit lackluster in their questioning.

I still don't want Jedi back, but it's possible she might have annoyed me less if someone had told her to dial back the dancing during the opening, and lesson the yammering on and on and on during political discussions. She did seem to genuinely smile at times, which MM does very rarely.  MM always has that "why am I here" look on her face, which suggests she hates her job. Not a good gig for her.

I also don't care for Paula, so happy she is rarely there.

I liked Nicole enough, and think they fired her at the totally wrong time. All her knowledge from working in the White House would certainly been an asset these days.

I turned off the show today partway through the Donna Brazile interview. I was bored, to be honest. Though it was interesting to learn that Hillary was donating 3.5 million a month to the DNC.

She has the classic resting bitch face. Not only that but you're right. Since day 1, she's had that "I hate my job" look. Always looks miserable. She's been on the show before & admitted to watching reruns prior to accepting the job so it amazes me how much she appears to dislike it.

Donna Brazile is an expert at dodging questions.

Nothing that she said made me consider buying her book.

She's a politician, well in some respects, her answers on the dossier were avoided, or did she just pivot?. She knows that MM understands campaigning more than the others..

All DB has done, is muddied the waters, we still don't know why the DNC is in so much debt.

Yeah, this interview didn't do much to help clear the air & separate fact from fiction. I have more questions now than before.

The only enjoyable moment on today's show was Whoopi trying to ask Donna Brazile a question with her usual hemming and hawing -- Donna responds, "Well ask it!" Whoopi snaps back, "I'm trying." Good times!

Why does it seem like Whoopi has a hard time articulating herself lately? Like, sometimes I have no idea what her point is or where she's going with it.

This is not new ... Whoopi has always had a hard time expressing herself unless it's on the most basic level.

When I was listening to Donna Brazile, I felt like I was listening to a less cogent Harold Hill. Stop selling me, Ms. Brazile, and talk facts.

Did anyone else notice how frequently she would insert a (seemingly) random co-host's name during her answers? It wasn't even like she'd use the name of the person who had asked her the question. She made me dizzy. I'm so disappointed in her, because I know the DNC does have real problems, but she's adding more heat than light to the post-mortem, in my opinion.

So true.  But I think they did Nicolle a huge favor because she has a pretty good gig going on with MSNBC with her own show every afternoon.  Their loss.

I have a theory about yesterday's View Your Deal spots in every segment. They might have guessed that many or most viewers ff through those long commercials for the same tired old crap (how many infinity scarves  bangle bracelets  and monogrammed pillows do you need?). Thus tagging them on to each segment would likely have more viewers watching the shill. I hope it doesn't become a regular thing!

Could be. That was so annoying and unbearable I almost stopped watching. I don't recall them ever doing the "View Your Deal" the way they did it yesterday. Awful.

Well.......that was an hour I'll never get back. Good grief, DB didn't clarify much at all. And she kept saying "well, in my book....."  What she said then and now should be clear.

Nice job MM - "I hope you answer this honesty...." Really?

Brazile was discombobulated as all hell. I have no idea if she’s always like that. She seemed nice enough, but it’s hard to understand anything she says because she’s all over the map in the space of 2 seconds.

Same old story, but I still don't miss Nicolle and definitely don't miss Jedilyingliarwholies. I'd rather have Paula than Meghan though.

Thanks for pointing out that it really is the same bangle bracelets and infinity scarves all the time, and don't forget tote bags!   I laughed at the handbags made of "vegan leather".  so - polyurethane?   And the scented lotions, creams, candles, etc, might be nice,  or not.  How can you tell from a tv ad?

I know they say that everything is priced at 50% off - but is it really?   Can't you find comparable merchandise almost anywhere for that "discount" price?

None of them seemed to ask hard-hitting questions or at the very least, try to get DB to clarify what the heck she was talking about.

I rolled my eyes so hard at the "I hope you answer this honestly" thing. Also, the way she said, "I'm just asking if you think it's okay," or whatever the heck she said to DB with SUCH attitude. She can't even fake her obvious disdain for Democrats.

She was a hot mess trying to 'explain' that book of hers.  She appeared to be a defensive and nervous and danced all around the questions.  I wonder if she's regretting doing the book - at least, right now.  I used to like her, now not so much.  She's causing too much upheaval and there's enough incoming from the other side already.

I am Canadian and I really didn't understand what DB was trying to say.  I have read other places about what happened and it seemed more clear.  DB seems very put upon, being the second choice all the time, and the clean up person.  I didn't know that so why would she put that out there?  She diminishes herself.

On a more shallow note, WTF was she wearing.  I was mesmerized by the half sleeve in red on only one arm.  And while I am being shallow, Meghan's  jacket was so ill fitting that the sleeves were all bunched up.  It is usually tough to find a jacket for big boobed women that fits across the chest and on the arms.  But I expect more from these people who have stylists.

MM today thought that Joy said bigots, when she said biggest.  She is just waiting for something to pounce on Joy.
