Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Same old same old. Josh issues a statement written by a PR team (and live-edited on an ongoing basis, no less!) yet again without standing up like a real man to face cameras and take questions. Same as his mea minima culpa re the molestations. Boob and MEchelle really don't trust that boy to untangle his own knots, do they? Josh is still shaking and hiding in the folds of MEchelle's denim skirt, waiting for someone else to mop up the puddle he just made on the floor. 

 

Yes, Josh has got a really big problem. His parents have known this ever since he was a teen but haven't wanted to admit it and risk not being considered the Parents of the Millenium. Well, their denial came back to bite them in the ass big time. Will the Duggars bite the bullet now and try to get him some real help, or will they just tell him to pray even harder? 

 

This is the part where I kind of pity Josh, although I find that easier in the abstract. Because instead of giving him the attention he apparently desperately needed as a teenager (other than a very occasional slap on the wrist), his parents essentially set him loose on his sisters and rewarded him for not getting caught. And his behavior got more and more extreme, and the more extreme his behavior got, the more his parents talked real loud in public about what a good boy he was and forced his sisters to go along. And hey, they may have had something different to say in private, but if you don't say it in public, it doesn't exist, right? And until it all fell down, he wafted all the way into an executive suite in DC on the rising methane from his decaying soul and the wind Jim Bob and Michelle blew up his ass. 

 

With sane parents he might have had the chance to be a garden-variety asshole frat boy whose wife is off somewhere having an affair of her own, and a lot of heartache could have been avoided.

I just came from reading a lengthy Facebook post/replies from a guy (never heard of him) who wrote that he defended Josh over the molestation but now that the new scandal has arrived he feels he was wrong. A lot of fundie defenders in the comments but there are definitely a number who feel that molestation was bad, but forgiveable, yet porn and adultery is just going way too far. First I'm disturbed that this seems to be how they prioritize these sins (but it seems to be that they are upset over the fact that he hasn't repented from the molestation after all) but it was interesting to note the number of Christians speaking out against Josh. Definitely detected a turning tide...

I also noticed a large number of comments (a few on this board as well) regarding Josh's "sex addiction" and need for rehab. I'm a recovering alcoholic myself so I have no question that many people suffer from this, I'm just not sure that's a cut and dried diagnosis. No snark - wondering what's the basis for this conclusion from so many people. Isn't it possible he's "just" an adulterous scumbag who jerks off to porn?

I believe that guy is crapbag extraordinaire Matt Walsh.

I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop since the molestation scandal came out but I imagine there are a closet full of shoes to be dropped any minute.

I don't have to agree with Anna's beliefs to feel for her. I can't imagine having this scandal break, giving birth and having three kids at home and then during recovery having to deal with this bullshit. But as awful as it is for her, maybe this will be the "best" thing for her IF she has a real come to Jesus moment and gets the hell out of there.

Though Smugs doesn't have a job maybe, hopefully, they have invested some of their earnings from the show and she can get a settlement plus maintenance and child support. I have a sliver of hope this could happen.

I'm pretty interested in how the other duggar kids will deal with having such a fuck up for a brother.
