Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

I hate that they brought back the Halloween commercial where the woman gives the girl dressed as kitkat and reese's one of each candy bar in front of the two boys. That's just crappy. I like all three costumes.

I wish they had brought back the one with the teens running from the chainsaw guy by picking stupid spots that are always picked in horror movies. Hiding behind the chainsaws, running to the cemetary. Not getting in the running car. It always cracks me up.

I'm seeing that one a million times a day here.  It's a good thing I love it or I'd be really annoyed.

I never saw that one last year, and saw a lot of people complaining the same (and don't remember anyone saying "I saw it"), so I think they skipped it, and got shit for doing so, because it's back this year.  Damn right.  They need to run that thing every October until humanity wipes itself out, because it is just that funny.

I don't remember seeing it last year, and I haven't seen it this year (yet?) either.  I just love the expression on the chainsaw guy's face while the kids are making such bad choices.

Love that one.  Even the killer rolls his eyes

This one! I hate it so much!

Hate that 50 shades 💩!

I find this horrifying and offensive.  It's ads like this that lead to "the way she dressed meant she was asking for it" kind of legal defenses.

I didn't find it offensive at all and definitely don't see any connection to those kind of legal defenses.

Please explain how this ad does that, because I don't get it. I don't care for the ad, but don't see any victims or victim blaming here.

I just want to say I never see more than half the ads mentioned here. I DVR most of my shows but I do watch a fair amount of live TV and streaming so I don't get it. All I see are commercials for drugs, 4Imprint, Domino's, Arby's (and every other fast food you can think of), credit cards, sports betting and Haribo Gold Bears. All repeated 50 times a DAY. And all of them drive me crazy.

I DETEST that Haribo Gold Bears commercial with the two guys dressed as football players talking in fake baby talk. The two guys are off-putting to me to begin with and I HATE adults speaking in baby talk like they think it's something cute, so put the two together and I can't even bear one second of it without muting the volume. And it seems like every channel I watch repeats this commercial over and over again without end even though it's not even a new commercial - it's probably at least a year old.

And what's with every commercial now trying to outdo the last one in terms of volume and epic fake sporting event music and cheering, like everything's a commercial for the Superbowl or some other monumental once-in-a-lifetime event?

I used to mute commercials because they were a mild annoyance. Now they are more like torture by way of an ear piercing cacophony of noise that I can't even stand for one second! I had to adjust my TV's sound to minimize the effect of the noise but even that's not enough! I can't imagine the people that would find commercials like that engaging but these days I shake my head at a lot of stuff. This is definitely a recent phenomenon too, not something I remember even a few years ago. Some commercials were always loud and annoying but now they're just over the top and getting worse all the time!

OK, rant over, lol. 😉

I can't change the channel fast enough when that Haribo ad comes on. Beyond irritating. And it's on all.the.time.

And I'm really sick of Shaq and Icy Hot. Isn't that kind of a niche item? I've never needed the stuff, but apparently I'm in the minority, because the ad's in virtually every commercial break.

Kids' voices, yes, but I don't hear anything which makes them sound developmentally disabled.

Whatever they are, their voices are damned annoying. I don't even know if I believe that those are real kids' voices. They don't sound like any kids I've ever heard in the flesh. I would believe it if someone told me that their voices are computer augmented to sound more OTT than they normally do. Like everything else these days it has to be amped up to the absolute max and obnoxious. I know I sound like an old crochet but I tend to see societal implications in everything, lol.

Yes, those Gold Bears commercials are NON STOP, and it's the same commercial now for at least a year. They still repeat the older one with the people sitting around a conference table. That one annoys me too. I once read that it's a "thing" that a lot of people don't like adults talking "baby talk" just like it's a thing that a lot of kids and adults hate clowns. Well, I hate both, lol.

The Shaq commercials mildly irritate me as does anything with Kevin Hart in it. Neither bother me near as much as the Gold Bears commercials, though.

I use a similar product called Biofreeze for occasional strained muscles and arthritis pain at the base of one of my thumbs. I can't use Icy Hot because it has methyl salicylate in it and I'm allergic to salicylates, including aspirin and ibuprofen.

Note that I never had to use this kind of product until last year when I turned 65. Yeah, welcome to old age....

Yeah, they don't sound real to me.  I can't stand kids, but even I don't think they sound like that.

However that awful noise is generated, though, it should be some sort of FCC violation to subject my ears to it.

Yes, the market includes oldsters like me. Something hurts every day. I keep a tube of Salonpas (contains lidocaine) on my bedstand.

I use Aspercreme with lidocaine on my bad knee.  It's kind of hit or miss but Icy Hot burned.  Ah, yes, the joys of getting old.

I have Voltaran, it does not do a thing, Bio Freeze is ok. Going to PT for various tendonitis, rotator cuffs, etc...it is nice to have an OTC product at home.

I'm ready for the Wicked movie to come out to theaters. Not because I plan to watch it (nothing against it). Because, the sooner it comes out, the sooner this obnoxious Target ad will stop airing.

I don't want to jinx it, but I haven't seen this one yet and am already tired of hearing about the actress in that commercial whining about the "racist" fan art someone made. Screw you, Cynthia.

Last night it felt like that commercial aired during every commercial break in between all of the political ads.

I would replace every political ad with that screeching Wicked/Target commercial.  That's how much I hate the political ads (of any and all viewpoints.)  There ought to be a way you can delete them if you've already done early voting.  LOL.

I don't know. As much as I hate the political ads ... I have become almost numb to them. Almost. But the Target/Wicked shriekfest? I can feel my gums start to hurt and my stomach muscles tighten; and not in a fun way.

I don't think I have ever had such a visceral reaction to a commercial and I don't know why.  And! Oh my God - political commercials during the World Series and a Hallmark movie. Nothing is sacred.

Consider yourself lucky if you don't live in a 'battleground' state.
There is no escape unless you opt for no-ad streaming.
It is disappointing to think about how much $$ is being wasted to advertise to people who are already firmly in one camp or another.

I don't live in a battleground state but in CT we have two local races that are very contentious and the ads have been driving me nuts. I only put up with them on live TV which for me is not that often, but often enough. At least I can fast forward when I record shows on my DVR. We have also been getting ads for the national race too but probably not as much as in a battleground state.

I hear you.  I actually live in a Battleground State; that is maybe why ... this last week or so...I hear them but can ignore them. A little.  At least where I no longer flip the bird at the tv and swear. The grands kind of miss that version of Nana: the real one.

I dunno. The sequel to "Beetlejuice" has been out for a while and I'm still seeing the Progressive tie-in commercial.

Movie tie in ads- It’s my theory that the more product tie ins there are, the more worried the studios are that the movie will bomb. And usually they are correct.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is doing quite well.

In addition to its impressive values for 2024, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice fared decently well among the highest-grossing movies of all time. It is the no. 121 highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office of all time.

And let's not forget Barbie. Its promotions were everywhere!

I think the quality of the move tie-ins is directly related to the overall success of the movie. The more organic the tie-in or the more fun advertisers have creating the ads means a better movie and box office sales. Everything I have seen related to Wicked has been as dull and uninspired as the clips, trailers, and still photos from the movie.
