His long riff on Bill Clinton and impeachment makes me think he has not ruled out his dream of running for office again (but this time of course, as an "independent".

Again,  this AM,  The Bill Clinton Impeachment Information Network felt the need to tell me that  BC was impeached because he lied about a sexual harassment case.  I thought it was because he lied about having sex with ML?  I'm a young whippersnapper so I don't know (in fact I'm old, proven by the use of the term "whippersnapper")

Mika stumbled over her reading twice today in the 20 minutes I listened.  DOES NO ONE REPRIMAND HER OVER THIS???  this is so fucking basic.

I can't stand Donny Deutsch, but he was right and Joe was an asshole.  And Donny's from New York and Joe isn't, so he would know more about life under Hizzoner.  Cut his mic?  For mildly disagreeing with him?  Why would Donny ever want to come back?

Mika, honey, it's your honey who needs help.

Alicia's dad is Senator Robert Menendez.

I am reminded of a commentator yesterday on CNN who said (in relation to the Bidens), “if politicians’ families were banned from leveraging political connections, half of Congress would resign tomorrow”.

Mika could be a good role model for Alicia 😉

Yeah, I have to agree Joe was an asshole this morning with regards to his behavior toward Donnie Deutsch.  Clearly, you're not allowed to have a difference of opinion with Joe or he'll have them cut your mike.  I'm also no fan of Donnie Deutsch, but he was right.  I'm a New Yorker, born and raised and still live here (63 years old).  Rudy Guliani was always an arrogant, smug pos as mayor of New York.  As Donnie stated (and I've been saying the same thing since 9/11), he was doing his job as mayor.  That's what you sign up for with a major city like NY.  What was he supposed to do?  Go hide in a bunker?  It was clear that after 9/11, he became even more power-hungry and fashioned himself as a hero for political gain.  Al Sharpton commented at the time, "You didn't bring us together, our pain brought us together and our decency brought us together.  We would have come together if Bozo was the Mayor."  He also consistently tried to downplay the health effects arising from 9/11 attacks in the Financial District.   He was never liked as the mayor and his personal life was a mess.  His first wife was his second cousin.  When he cheated on her with his press secretary and then moved on to Donna Hanover, who he wanted to marry, he got the Catholic Church to annul the marriage by claiming he just discovered she was his second cousin (yeah, right).  He then cheated on Hanover and filed for divorce from her last year after a long separation when she caught him cheating on her with another woman.  The kids from his marriage to Hanover want nothing to do with him.  They are estranged.  I haven't heard anything about his drinking, but I wouldn't be surprised.  The man is batshit crazy and appears to be as unhinged as Trump.  But, yeah, when I find myself shouting "Shut up, Joe!" at the television set, it may be time to call it a day.

It's funny you say that, because when I was watching, I immediately flashed to the last time I saw someone's mic cut, and it was Bill O'Reilly.  In the 90s.

What struck me is not only what a thin skin Joe has, but that the argument wasn't even particularly heated.  As soon as Donny started to contradict Joe, Joe went right to mic cut.  Imagine if there was a real screamfest.

Maybe Joe is defending him because he sees himself in Rudy.  Retired from politics, wants more than anything to be back in the game, and pissed at the world that no one recognizes what a genius he is.

Giuliani was also responsible for having Emergency Command Center in the WTC after it was advised against in terms of it being a likely target for terrorists - even if the plane attack couldn't have been predicted.

He was always a hypocritical POS and a serial sexual harasser. My friend worked as an attorney when he was the head of the Southern District and he had sex with all the young female attorneys working there.

I am honestly quite puzzled by the sudden touting of Nikki Haley and Mitt Romney as the so-called "saviors" of the Republican party post Trump. Every single one of them will have their association with Trump hung around their neck, and even Haley's strategic departure from the administration won't save her once the shit comes down.

I wasn't able to watch the show live this morning, but I read the comments and to be honest I was a bit disappointed when I actually saw the Joe/Donny skirmish. I was expecting an epic showdown, but they were laughing throughout and Donny seemed more bemused than offended when his mic was cut.

It struck me that if you pay attention to the tone, there are rarely serious, emotional disagreements between the panellists on this show because often the discussions are too meta/detached in an "it's all a game" kind of way for actual emotional investment.

Donny was definitely right about Guiliani though.

The discussion wasn't heated, per se.  It was BIZARRE.  Joe insulted Giuliani freely for a few minutes, and then Donnie AGREED with him, which offended Joe for some reason and  then he flipped 180' and claimed Rudy was a hero and we all have to remember that.  Donnie said no, then Joe flipped another 360' and compared Rudy Giuliani to Winston Churchill.
From my perspective, Donnie was agreeing with Joe, but Joe wasn't going to allow piling on Rudy... I dunno.  It was weird as hell.

Mika, honey, it's your honey who needs help.

Joe considers himself to be an expert on NYC. He used to tell stories about how unsafe the city was when Mayor Dinkins was running the city. Joe complained about panhandlers , poor people & broken windows every where. Joe struggled to bring his first wife to the city with their children.

Joe was happy when Giuliani got elected & cleared the streets of beggars.

Joe loved the police's "stop & frisk" policy which was applied to POC who were in Manhattan without a valid reason.

I m not sure how many people remember the episode where Mika was mugged in NYC before the show. A panhandler asked her for money. Joe went ballistic & said Bloomberg was too soft on pan handlers. He arranged for Mika to have a driver /bodyguard.

Donny was back on the show today after the mic was cut off.

Joe left the show before 8 o clock. He had to take the SUV for service. He kept shouting at Mika off set as to where the keys were for the SUV.

That was my point above though. It wasn't serious, none of it is serious. To any perceptive human observer, Joe wasn't seriously angry, Donny wasn't seriously offended. They are all thrice removed from everything and arguments are not even "academic" they are gleefully sportsmanlike in their remoteness.

Donny used to bring on Louboutin shoes for Mika on a regular basis when he first started appearing on the show.

He also convinced Mika to appear in bed with him for a commercial about Morning Joe.

The commercial was filmed in his apartment.

Donny loves the camera time & even convinced Marla Maples to date him so he could rub it in President Trump's face.

Today, they started with a clip of Geraldo Rivera on the Hannity program on Fox.  Joe was really hyper making fun of Geraldo, and Mika looked pissed. They showed clips of the Washington Nationals celebrating their wild card victory.  I thought Joe was a Red Sox fan...

Elyse and Mike Barnicle are in the studio with Joe and Mika.  Mika said there is anti-impeachment rhetoric from the president about a coup.  Joe said impeachment is a constitutional process, not a coup.

Jon Meacham gave some history of impeachment.

I am waiting for Mika to tell us what her dad thought of impeachment!

Joe said Trump talked about beating up people. I would like to see more analysis of the legal aspects of an impeachment.   I think the show needs an interview with a constitutional scholar.

Jon Meacham talked about Americans being a forgiving people except when lied to.  Then he went on and named the presidents who got in trouble during the modern era—Johnson/Vietnam, Nixon/everything, Clinton/scandals, Trump/everything.

Is Meacham a republican lover?  I know Nixon and Trump are republicans.  But, I don’t care who you are, if you’re talking about presidents who lied, you must include Nixon.  And, Joe likes to remind everyone, especially lately, that Trump isn’t a true republican.  Didn’t he run down all the democrats that Trump gave money to yesterday?  I remember thinking but how many republicans did he give money to?

Meacham didn’t mention Reagan/IranContra, DaddyBush/Read my lips, or, W/Iraq.  Of course they lied about more than those but they are the ones people normally think about right away.  Yet, Meacham couldn’t think of anything.  He let Carter off the hook as well but they had just talked about how Carter was most proud of telling the people the truth.

I don't know if he's a republican lover, but I think both he and Doris Kearns Goodwin are so completely out of their depth in responding to the Trump presidency that they have no coherent way to respond to it. They keep reaching back in history and dredging up platitudes about the "strength of the institutions" in an effort to try to find some sort of context, but there just is none. They both have been looking progressively more bewildered as this presidency drags on.

Giuliani gets such praise for being out in the immediate aftermath after 9/11, but wasn't it because he stupidly refused to move headquarters from the WTC after the first attack?  He was warned it remained a huge target. His legend was also created because Dubya was bug-eyed and staring, practically paralyzed about what to do.  Giuliana became the de facto president that day.  Everyone forgot who he really was for quite a long time.

I enjoyed seeing Michael Moore. He told Joe that the liberal base in America is bigger than the Trump base. If they vote in 2020, Trump & the GOP are doomed.

Joe did not like that & repeated that Democrats need the support of Never Trump GOP .

He also told Joe that he is annoying Mike by continuing to talk baseball throughput the show. Joe laughed.

You know Eliot I would have agreed with this earlier in the day but I caught DKG on another channel and she was a breath of fresh air relating our current circumstances back to previous examples (as much as one can) but I didn't come away with the feeling like she was the history librarian like I do when she is on MJ.  As is with so many previous MJ guests, they are so different and so much more interesting on other programs.

Something inside of me snapped this morning watching their usual shtick.  I now have zero tolerance for Joe bellowing over invited guests and sorry Michael Moore who clearly set up that volley over the net I don't think it's funny that Mika cleans out her purse when she is bored with sports.  I don't think I can watch them anymore even just to see where they are located for the day or their patter.  There is too much truly serious stuff going on right now and I need real information delivered in a sensible way.  They are always behind the curve on early morning breaking news.  I am not young (63) but I am tired of their geriatric responses to the scoop of the day (no one cares about what you did back in the 90's as we have the INTERNET now).  Enough.

Joe spent many years trying to lure Mike away from her husband. It started before the show Morning Joe aired on tv.

After the mugging, Joe ensured that Mike had a driver to pick her up from home & drop her off at Rockefeller Center.

Joe also rented an apartment in Manhattan for Mika & himself in case there were traffic or weather issues preventing them from going back home.

Mr. Kemper and I were in the car this morning...had MJ on the radio.  I noticed that Joe tried one time to interrupt/talk over Michael Moore - but Moore kept talking and Joe shut up. And the purse cleaning got old the second time Her Nibs did it.  I wish Joe would get out his wallet and clean it out when she brings up KYV schtick.

There was a guest on...did not hear the intro...but he had something to do with trying to manage the opioid epidemic.  Joe talked over him and brought up tobacco and the evil-ness.  And how/why aren't they going to abolish cigarettes since more people get sick/die from tobacco than opioids.  Sorry, I am apparently not spelling "opioid" correctly.  He was quite adamant and a bit bullying.  I think he actually said he was sorry/not sorry for the tobacco bullying.  I don't know who the guest was but I felt sorry for him. Remember when we used to call Joe (Television Without Pity) Morning Douche?

My fallback for when The Twins get to me is HGTV if there is something on that is not a Flip show.  Except for Flea Market Flip...I want Lara/Laura's legs.

Joe took pride in protecting Mika from evil executives at NBC who wouldn't pay Mika her true value. Joe was generous & gave Mika part of his bonus.

In Mika's first book, she complained about having to pay for her own clothes & childcare on a $150K salary.

Joe warned other NBC employees like Matt Lauer, Tom Brokaw , Harold Ford Jr & Mark Halperin not to try & flirt with her because she was "off limits".

Joe did complain to Mayor Mike Bloomberg about NYC allowing panhandlers on the streets.

Joe was outraged at the amount of poor people allowed near Rockefeller Centre.

The NYC police turned down Joe's request that Mika have a police escort when traveling from her home to the studio.

He convinced NBC to pay for a driver for her from Bronxville to Manhattan.

Joe and Mika are off.  Willie is on the set with Barnicle and Jonathan Lemire.  Lemire says the president is flailing.  The NY Times reports that more subpoenas are coming.

They showed Trump's contentious press conference yesterday.  The president had a tense exchange with a reporter.

Willie has excellent command in the studio and is much more professional than Joe. Willie is not laughing, name calling, or riffing on his own jokes.

They showed an interview with Sam Stein and Adam Schiff where Schiff said he had not spoken with the whistleblower. Stein said Schiff regretted not being clear about his communication.  Sam Stein has some interesting insights.

Mika & Joe's disappearance from the show today might be explained by the Fox News report released today. Mika privately supported one of women accusing Tom Brokaw of sexual misconduct. She signed the letter with other NBC staff supporting Brokaw . Joe tried to break up the fight between Mika & Ms. Vester.

I love how she called Brokaw an old man and would never recover from these allegations.  He's worth millions and the bulk of his career was over a decade ago.  Sorry but folks don't want to hear from him anymore especially after so many woman came forward about what a treat he was to work with back in his heyday.

Geez.

I am so glad I tuned in this morning, this show is a delight and I definitely feel smarter and more informed then I did before the show.  Willie and guests did an excellent job laying out those text messages and how they changed when they realized they were starting to be scrutinized and Ratner sounding another alarm that certain key sectors in the economy are really starting to sag (my only complaint is can we puh-leeze stop talking about how Trump voters aren't moving away from him?  They aren't going to so just stop it already).

So much news pumped out in the first hour.  I can't imagine how many stories/segments get cut because Joe and his bloviating run completely over the allotted time(s).
