I really get the tears.  Marriage and kids is what they all have been raised to BELIEVE in, it's been ingrained in them that it's the ultimate goal and priority in life.

In trying to think of an equivilent, I thought, it's like you were a HUGE animal rights activist and had devoted your life to it, and your best friend was right there with you and it's what you did together and talked about it all the time and it was your life's focus….and then you find out that friend was been deeply involved in dog fighting the whole time.

You would be devestated, feel betrayed, etc.

If the person's ultimate goal is marriage and a family, and he or she is not happy before the family ultimate goal, what the heck do you expect. Josh got married because of damage control. He already molested five girls and may have been going to hookers and looking at porn before marrying Anna. Why drag yourself, your spouse, and innocent children into the mixture. JB was too worried about saving grace and protecting the family image instead of looking at the whole picture. The same thing with Jill and Jessa. They can pretend they are happily married with their husbands and are excited new parents, but I have a hard time believing everything was all sunshine and roses before the scandals came out. I can understand the older kids not being happy with Josh, but I would be more concern about Anna and the children. To me, it seems they were more concern about themselves and what the world thinks of them instead of  their innocent nieces and nephews. Of course, look at the their nitwit parents to see where this comes from.

I agree, bigskygirl. Josh had so many issues going into his marriage, and he is still that same person. What I wonder is if the marriage was arranged solely as image damage control, or if Ma and Pa are simple enough to have thought it was a magic cure. Either way is gross and makes Anna a sacrificial lamb of sorts. Of course, that culture pretty much raises women for that role.

Even when questions see ore screened, it's fairly common for someone to ask their question and then tag on another non approved one really quickly, or for people in the audio be to blurt out stuff to throw you off. I can see where she'd be nervous every that would happen.

On her last appearance the moderator took written questions from the audience, and read them himself. You know, jut to be super-duper sure they stuck to the script.

If I were Josh I would call E or AMC and do my own reality show. Flee rehab, let the cameras follow me around and speak the TRUTH about growing up Duggar/Boob and Mechelle. Go back to school, do therapy... Having a successful reality series would be the ultimate fuck you to his parents. And yes I would watch

I would watch, too, but I doubt any network would touch a known child molester with a ten-foot pole.

I would watch the SHIT out of that show. Except I'd maybe prefer JD or Jed or Si because Josh will never not be the sister molester to me.

During Jana's TH, she was constantly looking up to her left when speaking, which indicates recalling/remembering.  But something  didn't seem right to me because her speech was halting and something seemed off to me.  I asked my husband,(who has knowledge of neurolinguistics from his career), and he said someone who does that could also be remembering a script. So if someone still has it on tape, I would be interested in knowing at what points she was looking up.  Doesn't mean it was necessarily Jim Bob's script, could be her own script she was trying to stick to I suppose.

I also want to suggest that Derick wash his new T-shirts before donning them. He was wearing one that still sported its folds.

Damn it, people.  Derick just can't please any of you.  He went all the way down to the Walmart to pick up a fancy new shirt for his starring role and then you criticize it!  He just wanted you to know he MADE an effort to look nice with his fancy store bought pre-folded shirt, LOL.

He probably bought with the in place lines so he'd have a guideline for how to fold it when his wife wasn't around to tell him.

My impression was that ALL of them were being SUPER SUPER CAREFUL about what they said. I wondered if Michelle and/or Jim Bob were int he room when they were filming.

It was sad to me, because it was so clear that Josh hurt them all terribly and then managed to convince them that he turned over a new leaf, and ba-bam! NOPE. He is so damaged, and the religion his parents forced him  into was the worst possible religion under the circumsatnces. I think Josh married Anna and had kids as a sincere effort to be what his family wanted him to be, and becasue he wanted to be what they all consider to be a "good" person. I ALMOST feel bad for him, keeping his stuff secret. ALMOST.

I think Derick and Jill have an "inarticulate" kind of love. Derick's not without issues, but he's got at least half a brain, and he is flexible and patient, he "converted" on his own, and Jill seems eager to learn and try new things. Ben has none of Derick's qualities, he's stupid and was born to quiverfull adherents and he must actually be wearing out bibles with furious scripture underlining and bible thumping. Jessa wants the lifestyle Anna had, but clearly has no knowledge of how to get it. She certainly won't be getting it or going places with mouth breather Ben, that marriage won't last.

It's pretty clear Josh was told by JimBob to find a wife ASAP when CPS made it's ruling. He couldn't live with his victims, and JimBob didn't want people asking questions about why Josh was living alone and apart from the family.

Derick would need a lot of patience and tolerance to be married to Jill. She reminds me of a teenage girl clinging to her boyfriend errr... husband. I often wonder if he ever gets five minutes to himself. She would drive me nuts.

Good point. It makes me wonder though - what if Derrick or Ben wanted to stop filming, etc.? As the headship of their respective families, would Jill and Jessa have to agree? Can Jim Bob overrule?

More importantly, why do I care? I need a new hobby for Christmas.....

This is a great question - I'd love to know the answer here. What would happen if Ben and/or Derick wanted no further filming in their lives? Personally I can't imagine either one of these Milquetoasts pressing the point too hard. I'm guessing Jessa and Jill would shut it down pretty firmly the first time it was ever mentioned at home. So much so that there wouldn't be any second mentions - LOL. Jessa would probably smack Ben "upside the head" and Jill would probably smile, giggle, not reply and then run privately to let Daddy know what Derick just said.

Neither Derick nor Bin is an alpha dog. They don't have the balls to stand up to JimBob and say "no more filming." In addition, they've gotten lazy and accustomed to making money for doing very little. That's a tough habit to break. Hell, Derick couldn't even last a year at a full time job before he was "called" back into the Missioncation field.

I agree. Also JB probably said they would be poor again or something along those lines

Yes, I'm positive that Boob has made this point abundantly clear to the older kids. And now they get to feel financially-responsible for the family too. Josh screws up twice, and Daddy screws up - and yet both of them manage to get themselves off the hook financially. Now it's the kids have to be sure the $$$ keeps pouring in too. Good grief but Boob is just the Absolute Worst.

Ben looked like Moe from The Three Stooges!  Jessa in the bathroom with camera crew there tosses her hair over and throws it back then coils her hair...gee it could have been a promo for a sex ad!!  Man she is full of herself and Ben cooking like a good little boy!  Jinger looked hot too rocking that long black dress, hair pulled off in a sexy look and beautiful make up.  And all the girls wearing the same big earrings?!  They have come a long way from the same red dresses down to their ankles with closed toe shoes and white round neck collars now haven't they.

No words about how awful and sick Derrick appears to be.  Wow whoever told him his braces wouldn't work without breaking his jaw needs to have never put braces into his mouth in the first place and should be sued!  Both he and Ben look resigned to their life serving their "beloved".....and it ain't the Lord!!

Ugh, so tired of hearing about how jacked up Derrick's face is. You are right, it is, for now. They are widening his upper maxilla, palate. Once that heals, about a year for that bone to fuse, they will start working on the crossbite. Many adults have to have orthoganathic surgery to fix their bite. Reasons for this could be mastication problems, chewing, or TMJ. Personal for me as I have gone through this heinous surgery and recovery as an adult. It seems everyone on the WWW thinks this is ok to mock about.

Parent's please take care of your kids bite issues as a child!!!!

As an adult who got braces to fix TMJ this is so true. I don't criticize Derick for getting proper treatment - but - if I were gonna be on TV, magazine covers, etc, as my ONLY source of income - I'd think twice about something that could negatively alter my looks. This is more than a bad haircut, or orange tan. There's only so much Photoshop can do.

Both Ben and Derick need to shave - clean shaven is such a better look than the scruff they think is nice.

Not everyone. I for one feel bad for him - and for you. That sounds really painful!  Every time I see him I think how bad my mouth would hurt when my teeth were moving from braces.  I can't even imagine how bad it must hurt to have your entire face shifting around.

What was wrong with Derrick's mouth/teeth in the first place?

My guess is his jaw wasn't aligned properly, or TMJ issues. He was thin before so it could be his bite was off causing chewing to be difficult. TMJ issues will suck the life out of you.

What should he do? Cover his mouth? Wear makeup on the bruises? At least he is being real about the problem. He has since switched out the titanium brackets for the ceramic, clear ones.

im wondering how in the world Derrick is paying for all the surgeries since he's not covered under employee insurance anymore.

He had it done the day after Izzy was born. They were still covered. It is one surgery and I am sure they planned the surgery and braces prior to quitting Wal-Mart. His surgery was likely covered. The ortho was probably a flat coverage. Used and done. It has been essentially paid for.

Thanks for getting it! I am on my 3rd round of braces at 53. It has nothing to do with my smile. It is about chewing. The thing is, teeth drift...have memory and the second the braces come off, teeth want to drift back. I had my lower jaw broken 10  years ago but refused the surgery Derrik had. My bottom is good. It's the top that went back. Still not doing that surgery but will have a permanent retainer the rest of my life.

You could be right, but I'm not so sure. Yes, we know TLC is working with judgmental, uneducated Arkansas hillbillies and that one of them is the biggest, most competitive knob I've ever seen. But intelligent, creative, well-trained producers, writers and editors should have the chops to make riding in an elevator look interesting. You look for an angle, you shake things up, you try something different once in a while. And for sure, you don't let the Knob make decisions. He's taking the $, and that means TLC has bought the right to call the shots. Despite how eye-popping crazy that might make the Knob.

The "Knob"! LMAO! Thanks, Wellfleet!

They didn't have to speak to any of it on camera, it's their choice to be on TV. They can walk away from the media at any time - no show, no interviews, no magazine articles. If they did, eventually they would fade - remember Paris Hilton? I doubt there are any paparazzi hanging around NW Arkansas just waiting pounce on an unsuspecting Duggar. They've chosen to remain in the public arena, likely for the money and the "fame". I don't see how that is substantively different from any other reality show participant.

ETA: My ire is not directed at you, TabbyGirl, it's all at the Duggars. If they want all the negative comments and stories to go away, maybe they just ought to stop talking.

The paps are very much in NWA. Parked in front of their house as often as they can and then the police run them off. My cousin lives on the same road and passes the Duggar home twice a day.

While flipping thru channels last night, I rewatched Jana's TH. She took an exceptionally long time weighing every single word before saying it. She had def been coached on what to say.

Jana started to cry when she was telling the story of Michelle breaking the news of the cheating scandal. She was repeating/paraphrasing her mothers words and she couldn't continue her interview. When Jill confirmed she was a victim it clarified that Jana wasn't one of the four sisters who were victims, her trauma is probably related to Michelle's mental fragility and Jana thinking since she wasn't a victim, it's her duty to pick up the slack when things turned to shit, she's also the oldest daughter and it's her role, and she's a bad person if she resents it because she wasn't a victim.

Do we know why the Duggars rate such special treatment? Is it a condition of their participation? Can't Jessa learn to handle the questions she doesn't want to answer? Just kidding on this last one - I know Jessa couldn't formulate an articulate reply to a difficult question with a dictionary and a Harvard English major helping her.  Jillions of other "celebrities" - and ones much more famous than her - handle it every day. What is it about the Duggars that makes them believe they should never have to deal with the tough questions - the tough things in life period? Why do they believe the world owes them a good day, an easy time?

I thought she was looking off at JB himself, while he sat coaching and leering and interrupting. Oh, yeah, and waving around that bag of freshly diced onions. Who knows how many takes there were. I'm sure the girls got praised for the spouting of tears.

Haven't seen the specials yet and don't know if I plan on watching but it sounds like from the comments that TLC is counting on cashing in on more Duggar fantasy life lies. Also when I think of the name Spurgeon I can't help thinking Purgeon.  Like their specials are just trying to purge the negative out of their brand. Purgeon on.

I think when a lot of us talk about how hideously grotesque Derrick is, we are factoring in all the reasons he is horrifyingly ugly, not just his teeth and face. His haircut is a disaster. He is skeletal. He looks unwashed. He's just very unattractive but I don't how much of that we ca blame on jaw surgery.

It might have been a betrayal to those who call themselves Christian and are leghumpingly invested in your TV show, but I'm pretty sure actual Christians' strength of faith does not depend on what Josh Duggar does. I know you've been TOLD that's how important he is. But he isn't.

Well, I think he's smart to do it now while they have money. Maybe he figured he would get all this stuff done and then RUN FAR AWAY to Central America to rid himself of the Duggars. He seems the most unapoligetically critical of Josh. Perhaps he has a master plan, and being assimmilated into the DuggarBorg is not part of it.

Jessa doesn't know anything about the world, though. I expect she has pretty much no idea how question and answer sessions usually go. All she knows is that she would freak out if she couldn't have the questions prescreened and read by a host. And that to push her to do something that makes her uncomfortable would make baby Jesus cry and constitute persecution of one of the country's best Christians (not to mention a little princess).

And if they figure her presence will draw in a certain demographic -- and it will -- the show people will let her get away with it, because why do they care? They're not running a journalism shop. They're trying to get a lot of ladies in the door to buy makeup.

If the duggars were all quick to forgive and move on there would be an uproar how they criticize and call out "sinful behavior" among others but don't address the sin in their own camp. I don't think josh deserves any special treatment. He should probably be held to a higher standard since they are so vocal about having superior morals.

I will admit that I have only watched a few minutes of this--Jessa and Jinger going in the car to a place where they tried out chairs.I did like the sweater that Jinger had on and thought she looked good in it.  She would have looked cuter had she been wearing a short pencil skirt instead of the long skirt. I have several friends that frequently wear those long skirts that are knit; the skirts just seem to have no movement.  Just not flattering for me.

As to the t-shirt.  There was an episode once where Mary was doing laundry. Not sure which of the girls helped her, but they both had this folding thing that they put the t-shirt in and they folded it a certain way and the shirts came out folded.  I remember seeing these advertised on tv a few years ago. I couldn't see that they saved time, but I guess they are supposed to make the shirts look like they just came from the store.

I taped it & tried to watch again. I made it as far as the Jessa & Jill cocoa talk & couldn't take anymore. Those two sounded like acquaintances who hadn't seen each other for a while catching up on things. Jessa mentioned going to the childbirth classes & Jill didn't say anything. You would have thought as sisters (1) Jill would have already known this & (2) Being a "midwife" Jill would have seemed more interested & asked Jessa all about the classes. Those two really can't stand one another.

I'm still gathering my thoughts about Anna's TH preview. Add her name to the roster of those being coached. All I can say for now is it felt like watching Priscilla grasp for words.

I know, isn't it awesome? Not to mention Jinger, who didn't even try to hide her contempt for Jessa during the chair shopping scene. Watching these people interact, you'd never guess they spent over 20 years living under the same roof. As you said, they seem more like casual acquaintances than siblings.

My thoughts after seeing it,Jill still sounds like an eight year old girl trapped in a womans body, facially she always reminds me of thoese people that emerge after being held hostage, totally blank and broken down.

Jill seems closer to 14 than 24.  Let's not forget that this is the same woman whose response to a marriage proposal was, "totally".

The flipfold is awesome, and I am gobsmacked that the Duggars are doing anything awesome.  Mine will even fit in a carry-on.  It folds anything to roughly the same size, and flattens the air out of it so that it takes less room.  You can even do towels and sheets, and stack them all in the cupboard neatly.

Er...mmm... like, maybe I should do an infomercial.  It is certainly the best as-seen-on-tv object I ever bought.
