I am not a huge fan to begin with and watch with a lot of FF.  My FF action has increased this season.  Last year is a hard act to follow.  Meryl and Max held my interest and I looked forward to the show (a first).

Next out are Chris and Robert, a painfully obvious boot.  Then it has to be Noah, leaving the very obvious F4.  ***yawn***   Riker next.  I think we will see Rumer and Nastia as F2.  Rumer takes it because Derek will put in too many gymnastics and Len will cry foul.  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

No one's got a perfect 40 yet have they? I can't remember. They were close with the team dances. If so I'm happy about that. I miss the days of old when most wouldn't get a perfect score until pretty much the finals or the week before. Anyways, I've been quite happy with Len's scoring this year. I was glad when he only gave nine's for the team dances.

I also think Robert and Chris will go out next. I love team sharkaroo, so there's a part of me that secretly hopes he can make it farther than Noah.

I've always wondered this: when it comes to the double elimination, they usually boot one earlier and then the other (at least in the most recent years). So is the 1st to go the one with the lowest score, and the 2nd with the lowest score, or is there no way of knowing seeing how they're eliminated on the same night?

I would have no problem if Len called foul if Nastia and Derek throwout too many gymnastics in the finals. I don't want to watch 2 minutes of back flipping. I want the dances to have actual dance content in them.

Now I yearn for the simple days when one or two fancy lifts were the "make it or break it" of the freestyles.

I really like Erin.  She is the least cookie-cutter hostess we've had.  Give me the occasional klutziness or awkward over the canned Brooke or the insipid Samantha anyday.  What I do not get is how there has been basically zero references to the cocaine issues alleged before this season began now that her BF was busted for the stuff.  Usually, the "news" outlets love to add "context" to stories like this.  I've seen none.  I've also seen zero follow-ups to the original story published just before this season started (Radar?).

Derek was also suspiciously perspiring like crazy after his dance with Nastia.  I was genuinely concerned that he was "on" something.  Now, we find out that he pretty much fell down stairs as he was grabbing for an ice bag?  Something was very off with him Monday night.

*I want to make it exceedingly clear that I have no independent knowledge of anyone using drugs of any kind.   I make no specific allegations of this sort, except in the case of the hockey player BF.  I am merely remarking on the curious behavior I find in the media at large.

ABC Schedule Juggle Update: @DancingABC 10th Anniversary Special moved to Tues, 4/28. Results Show & Double Elimination moved to 5/5.

There will be a single elimination this week, but the double elimination on May 5 will be even more nerve wracking..

I've also seen zero follow-ups to the original story published just before this season started (Radar?).

Well maybe because there's nothing to follow up, on what was essentially a story in one publication that is also hardly a bastion of truth.

What I do not get is how there has been basically zero references to the cocaine issues alleged before this season began now that her BF was busted for the stuff.  Usually, the "news" outlets love to add "context" to stories like this.  I've seen none.

Multiple articles referenced Jarrett being Erin's boyfriend thereby loosely tying her to the story. That said, it doesn't seem like she was at the event at which he got caught with possession and there is nothing tying her to the incident. I'm sure if there was, it would be reported.

Derek was also suspiciously perspiring like crazy after his dance with Nastia.  I was genuinely concerned that he was "on" something.  Now, we find out that he pretty much fell down stairs as he was grabbing for an ice bag?  Something was very off with him Monday night.

I didn't notice Derek perspiring any more than usual on Monday night. As for his falling down the stairs  I didn't find anything off about that and thought it was quite possibly a symptom of exhaustion. Which is hardly odd for someone who has been flying across country every week, doing multiple performances of a Broadway show, while also preparing and rehearsing for DWTS and performing said dances every Monday night. My guess is Derek has been going on adrenaline and possibly pushing his body to a breaking point which resulted in what happened on Monday.

There will be a single elimination this week.

The producers don't seem to have a clue what the hell they're doing this season. Switch Up gets cancelled, then it's double elimination but no wait it's not, then there isn't going to be an elimination this past Monday but wait, oh there is one and the anniversary special will be in May but wait no, it's actually this week...it's like what the hell?

I understand that you have to grow and change in order to get better and keep viewer interest, but I feel like DWTS has changed a lot without nearly enough growth.

I was thinking how I hate that the team dances are now two teams pitted against each other. Back when they first started, the group dances had all of the remaining couples dancing together in one glorious clusterfuck.

Remember when they regularly showcased pro numbers choreographed by ballroom pros with actual ballroom choreography, like the Rebel Yell Jive, Derek and Chelsie's Paso Doble, the Like A Drum Samba?

I am so sick of theme week, but I hope Eras Night harkens back to a DWTS Era that doesn't seem so desperate.

I had forgotten about the group hip hop. That was a mess. Best part was Lance Bass throwing in some Bye Bye Bye moves.

To be fair though, that was before the contemporaries and the jazzes and the broadways and whatever other junk they throw in now in addition to the not-ballroom group dances. That was back when each couple still did all the assigned ballroom dances and there was a nice tradeoff between latin and standard dances in each episode. So yes, that was before everything went downhill and everything was serious ballroom. Or at least it was the beginning of that hill.

I think Season 8 was the last actual group dance, yes? Those were just for fun and not scored. That season they did a 60s themed group dace and then later had team dances that were scored. Derek's team did a superior tango and Melissa Rycroft couldn't perform in the team mambo because she injured her ribs. Team mambo had a better ending. Still both were better than the mess of team dances from this season.

So it seems like they are done with the All Access live rehearsals this late in the season.  I'm fine with that b/c they should just focus on the dancing at this point. I hope next season they will tweek the whole process and schedule and even include pro rehearsals. Ever since Mark made that suggestion on Afterbuzz I've been hoping to see that happen.

I'm pretty sure the last group dance was Season 13. They did a Broadway Jazz number to "Hey, Big Spender" and "Money Makes the World Go 'Round". I remember Nancy Grace's lack of enthusiasm about playing the role of a paid escort.

No one has yet made a perfect score but three have received 39 points--Riker, Rumer and Willow. The highest score for Nastia is 38. She has the overall highest accumulated score as of now.

There is no way of knowing which couple has the lowest score in the double elimination. The easier to cheat you with, my dear. I don't actually believe they cheat on the votes but they do manipulate with gimmicks like "not necessarily the bottom two" and last week's comment by Erin when she announced Val and Rumer's phone number and added something like, "You need to vote. We are saying this for a reason." That was just before she reported Val and Rumer were in the bottom two. Of course we don't know for sure they were actually in the bottom two, but maybe more people called to vote for them after that.

Derek always perspires excessively. Bethany attested to it on a Badie Show episode when she told Sadie that drops fell into her mouth during one of their rehearsals. They both said "eeeww". I also can attest to it because I was seated on the front row at MOVE LIVE last summer with my nose practically pressed into the stage. I was sprinkled with Derek sweat during one of the dances. At one point he said, "Why is it so hot in here? A guy could drown."

Speaking of Team Dances, I think one of the best was Season 7's Team Paso to "Rocks" with Maurice Green/Cheryl; Warren Sapp/Kym; and Brooke Burke/Derek. It was the first season for Team Dances.

E! has given the judges pairings for week 9.  I am not surprised Inaba went to Noah,

but I am surprised that Julianne would go the nepotism route. Oh well, should be interesting.

http://ca.eonline.com/news/654628/this-new-dancing-with-the-stars-twist-will-blow-your-mind

Len Goodman will be with Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough

Julianne Hough will be with Riker Lynch and Allison Holker
Carrie Ann Inaba will be with Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess
Bruno Tonioli will be with Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy

I am not sure if they are going to have the contestants do a re-dance of a previous dance, perhaps with new choreography and music or a completely new dance.

The judges' choice I assume is the second dance of the night. So far the first dance of the night:

Noah and Sharna have Viennese Waltz

Riker and Allison have Contemporary

Rumer and Val have Argentine Tango

Derek and Sasha and Nastia to be announced.

What's up with that? I mean, she's related to two of the remaining contestants, but that leaves two others that she could be paired with. I think that generally - with a few exceptions - she's been fair in her scoring, and she must have gotten flak for giving Derek a 10 for the sub-par Love is an Open Door dance, because she scored him much lower the next time. Not sure she had to be with Riker, though.

Regardless if she scores appropriately, this is exactly why she shouldnt be on the panel. A fourth judge is too many anyway

Well if 3 Hough fam isn't enough for you, Tuesday we'll get a 4th. From this week's press release:

"Viewers will also be treated to a lively dance performance from the highly anticipated Disney Channel Original Movie " Teen Beach 2," the music- and dance-driven sequel to "Teen Beach Movie" premiering June 26 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel. Stars from the movie including Ross Lynch, John DeLuca, Jordan Fisher, Kent Boyd, Raymond Cham, Jr., Will Loftis, Jessica Lee Keller and Mollee Gray will perform the high energy jazz number "Gotta Be Me," the first single from "Teen Beach 2." "

It's not clear to me if they will be singing, dancing or both.

I find this incredibly funny.

Ross Lynch stars as singer 'Austin Moon,' one-half of an internet music duo that has become an overnight sensation, in the Disney Channel hit comedy series "Austin & Ally." This role has earned him 2 Kids Choice Awards for 'Favorite TV Actor' (2013 & 2014), a Teen Choice Award for 'Choice TV Actor: Comedy' (2014) and the Number 1 spot on iTunes for the "Austin & Ally" soundtrack. In summer 2013, Lynch starred as 'Brady' in Disney Channel's blockbuster original movie "Teen Beach Movie." The film premiered to 13.5 million viewers, making it the number 2 most watched movie in cable TV history behind "High School Musical 2." The cast is currently (Summer 2014 ) filming the "Teen Beach Movie" sequel.

Yeah, this has absolutely nothing to do with Houghs. It's Disney promoting their own. No way they're NOT going to milk that kid.

From the Season 20 finale results thread:

Honesty, I think the majority reaction would be more "I don't understand why they're doing this, other than to make a point." I think Strictly Come Dancing did it and I don't know how that went, but I also think there's a general expectation for a proper ballroom dance to be between a man and a woman, not two men or two women. IDGAF about the dancer's sexual orientation and maybe it's just me, but I think dances are just going to flow better between a man and a woman.

Strictly never did it, although the producers toyed with the idea.  Only the Austrian, Israeli, and Serbian versions have done it as far as I know -- and the male couple who competed in Austria made it all the way to fourth place.  Ironically, I think it was their paint-by-the-numbers Rumba that did them in; I think viewers thought they were a little too careful in their approach to the dance and found it boring as a result.

And if you really think that dances flow better between a man and a woman, I invite you to watch not only that season of the Austrian version, but to look up Argentine Tango on YouTube.  It was originally a men-only dance (the gauchos had no women to dance with) that didn't become opposite-sex until it was introduced into the bordellos of 1920s Buenos Aires, and even then, male/male pairings were still the rule rather than the exception (as is still the case in Argentina today).  The dynamic between two straight men dancing Argentine Tango is off the charts; it makes the ones done by Gilles/Cheryl and Rumer/Val look tame by comparison!
