She was not criticizing nurses...... She was confused why a BEAUTY PAGEANT contestant would be dressed in scrubs..... at least get the outrage correct

As I wrote earlier, I am not outraged by the comment, I just dislike Joy's smug, know-it-all, I am better than you attitude with the stinkface sneer backed up by little research and dated Monica Lewinsky references.  Joy doesn't get called out a lot here and I think she deserves her fair share because she is often self-righteous, self-satisfied, full of herself, superior and nasty.  Do I think this particular comment deserves the calling out compared to other things she says?  No, not really.  Can't say I am not enjoying it though.  I know it is her (their)  job(s) to give her (their) viewpoint(s), I just think there is a nastiness to Joy that doesn't get pointed out often. Another example is that her comments about Kim Davis went to looks.  Why is that relevant accept to put someone down and make Joy superior?

She was confused by why a woman in scrubs would be presuming to have a "doctor's stethoscope".

In context...she was confused by a photo--one photo on a screen behind her that discussed the "talent" in the Miss America pageant.  There was definitely room for confusion.  It didn't warrant thousands upon thousands of people attacking her for something they didn't even watch...the pageant or The View.   If I accidentally bump into someone with my grocery cart, I don't need to be hunted down and hung for murder.

Yes!!!! For the life of me, I don't get the over the top reaction to what *actually* happened. I saw the show on Monday, and it was obvious that Joy was simply confused about the picture. If anything, Michelle's Twitter comments and Whoopi's telling the audience that they need to "listen" are more dismissive.

The sole prepared host (Rosie O) was made to think she was being too demanding in wanting to be able to have educated conversations, and the others acted like she was the annoying school nerd who was trying to make everyone work harder-- until she left.

Personally, I often found Barbara the most informed, then Rosie and Joy to varying degrees. Lisa, Star, Paula, Nicolle, and Rosie Perez were fairly informed, too. Meredith also, but she spoke less as the moderator. Still, co-hosts talking about things they don't know everything about is the nature of the beast, for better or worse. At least a couple of ladies this season put the effort when asked, like Raven/Michelle watching the debates and Joy saying she would watch anything the showrunners wanted if they just asked. My guess is they didn't ask Joy to watch Miss America, and I wouldn't have put myself through that for a 1-minute routine with Michelle either. I doubt the co-hosts even know what many of the topics will be until they come into work that morning, outside the biggest news stories like Kim Davis or the guests lined up, so they only have a couple of hours to check things out and I doubt that's enough time to watch Dancing with the Stars episodes or beauty pageants (which go for hours).

Too bad topics didn't last longer. Ana Navarro only wants Joe Biden to join the race to do to the Democrats what Trump is doing to the Republicans right now. Biden wouldn't stand a chance, I'm sure she knows that. I'd rather Clinton v. Fiorina than Biden v. Trump. I thought the nurses segment was okay, if a little too on the nose. Hopefully the controversy will slowly calm down now and the sponsors will return.

I think it's interesting to see Raven and Michelle talk more about politics. Odd because you can tell they weren't hired for it; I'm guessing this was going to be a fluff-topic season if Joy hadn't been brought back, and I'm grateful we were spared more of that. The downside is, with Michelle/Raven speaking more and seeming to fall more to the left, Paula has really quieted down. Beige doesn't last long on this show, so I hope she gets her backbone back.

The discussion about the 14 year old kid who was arrested for taking a home made clock to school. They were on the kid's side mostly..... Michelle shared her outrage about him not being able to call his parents..... but Raven praised the cops..... which seemed insane to me.

First... if they actually thought it was a bomb and were not just harassing him... why didnt they evacuate the school??

The whole time he told them it was a clock..... he never changed his story.... where were the explosives??
They took him out of the school in handcuffs....so they could interrogate him at a juvenile facility... still without calling his parents... or a lawyer for that matter.

One thing left out of the story...... the Mayor of this city has made some public stances against Muslims...... Im not surprised that this police force took that bigotry from their Mayor and ran with it

Oh, I do have to mention the story they did on yesterday's show--the students of PS-22, who worked on that song by Martina McBride, for their teacher who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in January.

Now, I don't know if it's because I myself have just gone through this (and am still going through it), but I cried throughout the whole story. And to have Martina appear on the show as a surprise. Not to whine, because it's certainly not about me, but how I wish that I had had the support and people to think of me or just be there for me, like she had with her colleagues, family and students.

Now it could be because I was all choked up, but did they say whether she was just going to do chemo/radiation or surgery? All I got was that she was diagnosed in January--and the process she went through was the EXACT same for me--mammo, to ultrasound to biopsy to prognosis. Though in my case, I didn't get a phone call, but in person when I went to my surgeon for the results.  That was the best part of yesterday's show for me.

Michelle was downright rude to Raven today - kept interrupting her, dismissed her, and snapped No!. Raven was irked. But then Raven mumbled something about knowing her countries- get off twitter.

And - why does Michelle always spend time enthusing over a guy's looks? Grow up MC.

ETA -GH, I believe she said she has finished chemo and now started radiation. I hope you are doing well. (())

She said she had finished with eight rounds of chemo on August 26th, and had just started radiation on September 14th. I'm a little behind and I'm just watching that segment now.  It was really well-done.

I wish you much success in fighting your battle.

So I guess to put some closure on this nurses' fiasco, the execs will be wanting the two big sponsors to return. What if they have no intentions of returning because they really left for other reasons  but  were able to conveniently use the incident as their reason for canceling sponsorship thus appearing to be the good guys? We may never know. In any event, it's a real shame that Joy's bearing the brunt of the backlash.

Just caught up with this week's shows, and I can't believe it, but I'm really liking it again.

There's still a lot to snark about (thank you!), and let's face it, it will never be Graham Norton or Charlie Rose, but I feel like I can watch it again without hating myself.  Whoopi's been declawed and neutered from the bully she was last year, I don't mind Paula a bit (in fact, if I hadn't read here that she's "the Conservative," I would never had picked up on it), Joy is a joy, and even Raven and Michelle aren't bothering me much.  Last year's Whoopi-Being-Moses-On-High while everyone else kissed her ass was unbearable, as was being told Whoopi didn't care what the audience thought. So was the previous Jenny/Sherri Year of the Fluff.

I like The Talk, but the lack of substantive topics gets to me. The audience oohing and ahhing over such probing hot topics as Kardashian hair cuts and Miley Cyrus breakups makes me feel like my mind is melting. I only wish The View would adopt their "no interrupting, no crosstalk" policy.

But yeah, I'm pretty much back as a viewer, at least for the time being. After RosieO left last year, I was out. I can't believe I'm actually enjoying watching again.

What exactly do they want?

I don't know what they want, but what they got was a ten minute long segment filled to the brim with groveling and ass-kissing.

Let's hope that satisfies them.

ETA: I thought the two nurses appearing onstage both wearing stethoscopes around there necks was a bit much.

New topic: did anyone else crack up at the idea of Whoopi at a fashion event?

I didn't see the show so I don't know the context, but Whoopi was at Fashion Week a couple of years ago with Andre Leon-Talley and I read later that these are paid appearances.  They can make up to $10,000.  So, yeah, Whoopi would be at a fashion event for money.

Raven is determined to find a new ridiculous hairstyle for every day she's on the show.

And Whoopi is all of a sudden interested in fashion?   are we to anticipate a make-over any time soon?  On Thursday's show she was wearing the world's biggest denim shirt.  Like she shops at a men's Big & Tall store.

What exactly do they want?

It's must be for her to be fired. I mean at this point should she cut her finger off, write and sign another apology in her blood? I mean what?  Maybe they want her to do a PSA for nurses?

Yeah, it's come to that point in this society where they want to watch people fall to the point of where they can't even make a living for themselves.

Like I've said before, our society is plagued with this "mob mentality" and it's at an all time high IMO because people can't deal with the fear and anger inside of them in a healthy manner. Therefore, they look for anyone to channel those fears/anger toward and jump the person like a mob, it's insane behavior.

Anyway, let's see whose next?

Oh no.... Im just now watching the Nurse segment..... the 2 guests were in costume... with their white coats and the stethoscope around their neck. ..... but neither one of them are actually working nurses any more... one is a professor and the other is a director of the school.

I bet the REAL nurses will be quite offended about this slight..... and Im on board with them..... why not get some REAL nurses who are actually outraged?

I think I might make a sign and go somewhere and march.

I thought the next outrage would be about the male nurse, in a profession that is predominantly female, speaking first. Where is the respect? Because we all get professional respect. Or not. Hopefully everyone's ass has now been sufficiently kissed.

Yes, Michelle was rude to Raven, wasn't she?  And I loved every minute of it!

I admit I just have a huge problem with Raven.  At first I thought she was simply trying too hard and squawking out *whatever* opinion just to have something to say.  Then I thought maybe she really believed what she was saying, but she was just very naive and ignorant.  But I think I finally figured out what is really going on.

Raven is just stupid.

Today was a perfect example.  The discussion of Donald Trump being asked a question by the man in the audience ... the lunatic Muslim hater, lol.  Raven was all aghast that Donald Trump didn't put the guy in his place or attack him or something.  Michelle pointed out to Raven that the last thing Donald Trump is going to do is shut down someone spewing the crap that guy was spewing in front of a huge audience, recognizing that the people who think like this guy love and support Donald Trump and he is not about to alienate those people.

Raven's response? Completely ignoring Michelle's point and insisting "yeah but he needs PR training" if he really wants to be the president of such a multicultural country (ostensibly to learn how to better hide his own racist views, as opposed to actually changing them, I guess).  When Michelle tried to explain to her that PR training isn't the issue, that Trump knows his audience and knows what they want, Raven digs in deeper and insists yeah but Trump needed to shut the man down, stand up against stuff like he was saying, and remind the man how much trouble he (Trump) got into for saying stuff like that about Mexicans.

Michelle might as well have been talking to the wall.  Raven just had no capacity to understand what she was saying.

I am willing to cut her some slack for her apparent unfamiliarity with the John McCain question/answer thing where he shut down the old lady who called Obama an Arab.  That was a few years ago, and she is not that old.  But how could she not know something about Trump's own history of casting aspersions on the president's background? Or that many of his core supporters largely agree with him on that matter?  That's just beyond ignorant.

But what really appalls me is her inability to understand what Michelle was saying about Trump having no desire to shut down the man in the audience because he is not about to offend people who agree with what the man was saying.  That to me shows she just has no damn brain in her head.  That is much worse to me than mere ignorance.  I mean  .... Ignorance can be fixed.  Stupid can't.

She really embarrasses herself every time she opens her mouth in a political discussion.  Actually most discussions.  I don't know why she is on this show.

Sorry for the long rant, but I just cannot stand Raven and I had to get this off my chest.

I was actually shocked Michelle said something relevant.....she very rarely says anything that is not a joke unless it is slobbering over men's looks.

I know, right! My mouth fell open for a second.  She was completely on the ball for a change.  If she keeps this up, I might have to revise my opinion of her.

Celia R -  I agree!  Trump isn't about to "shut down"  a representative of his core group of supporters.

In fact, the cynic I me wonders if the guy was actually a plant, saying the stuff that Trump can no longer say himself.

Remember when Trump announced his candidacy, and raved about how he was able to attract a group of "Thousands"  to support him?  He mocked other candidates for only having "dozens"  of supporters on hand when they announced.   as it turned out, Trump's people had put out a casting call, and paid actors to show up. He then got in front   of the audience of paid actors and expressed surprise and humility at the amount of support shown.  This latest bit reeks of the same kind of stunt.

Donald Trump is not stupid.  He's been on TV for a while, and he knows what sells, and he knows how to manipulate.  If his team didn't actually HIRE the guy to ask that exact question, they at least prepped him ahead of time to ask the question they wanted asked, wearing the TRUMP t-shirt that they gave him.  Trump  was not surprised by the question, he knew what was coming.  For years, Trump has been saying Obama is Muslim, socialist, not American.   Now that he's an actual candidate, he knows it's not a good idea to say those things himself.  So he gets other people to do it for him.

Raven thinks Trump needs PR training?  She has no clue how savvy he is with the message he wants to get across.

Is anyone else sensing that Joy really does not like Whoopi - at least not in the role of moderator? I bet Joy feels somewhat protective of the show since she's one of the originals, and she hates to see what it's become during Whoopi's reign. I don't blame Joy for not applauding at the end of Whoopi's Fashion Week remote. Weak bit and not in Whoopi's wheelhouse at all. And I sneer, too, when Whoopi closes with the "whatever view you happen upon" nonsense.  Hang in there, Joy, no matter what they throw at you.

And she has trouble with words!

Raven needs to pick up the slack. I get it. She grew up in the bubble of the entertainment industry and probably didn't see the need to and/or get a rigorous education. She's worked very consistently and probably has good bank from it. Some celebrities are really, really dumb when you put them in that sort of situation - they related everything back to the world they know because that's all they know. Raven talked about PR because that's what she knows.

Ha!  Of course!  Thank you Morgalisa.  I did not know that and couldn't figure out what in the world Whoopi would be doing at Fashion week but this makes sense.  We know Whoopi won't get out of bed unless it's worthwhile to her financially, plus if they can use it for this show, then it's a two-fer for Whoopi's Wallet.   And I'd kind of forgotten about her appearance with Andre, who baffles me completely.  But I think they probably shop at the same place.

Dang! I can't believe what they are over there posting.  The complaints range from it "it wasn't a live show so it doesn't count"  to "Raven was not attentive enough" and move into "they only care about $ and losing sponsors," "those were just nursing students and teachers, not working nurses" with a healthy dose of "we already know what nurses do, YOU ARE THE ONES WHO NEED THE EDUCATION!!!!"  snarl! snarl! snarl!

What I find really funny are the posts exclaiming this apology is "too little, too late!"  Uhm, didn't this kerfuffle originate on like .... Tuesday?  And Friday is too late to say you're sorry?  Damn.  And it's not like they didn't apologize on Wednesday, Thursday, however half-assed it was.  The desperation to hang onto their self-righteous anger and refusal to move on makes it obvious to me these nurses posting are (perhaps rightly) frustrated about a lot of things, and just taking it out on The View.

There are also a good amount of posts telling them they are being stupid and need to move on, that nurses are not all the second coming, and what they got today was more than they deserved because nursing wasn't really attacked, just one woman's dumb "talent" act.  This is my favorite comment:

Somebody call the Waaaambulance. I said nurses are valuable and nursing is a great skill but it is not a talent.

I actually work closely with nurses in my field if Clinical Research so I know they work hard bit damn come down from the cross already somebody needs the wood.

If they're not careful they're going to start a a nursitis epidemic

So people will do what?  Refuse to get sick?

It'll die down in a few days.  Did people think the anger would magically disappear with an "I'm sorry"?  I used to tell my kids, "Good I'm glad you're sorry but that doesn't make what you did ok".  In the eyes of some nurses and their supporters sorry is good but not good enough.  They need a few more days to calm down and refocus.

I really doubt that, but I guess they could ask them for their opinion on the whole brou-ha-ha first before they decide.  Not all nurses are upset.  Actually quite a few posting here clearly weren't.

Secondly, please ease up on this nurse topic. It's garnered enough attention on the show, in the media, and the forums this week. If you can't talk civilly to one another about it, we will hide posts. Thank you. Have a good weekend.

What???  Where did she get all that money?  All I have ever seen her on was the Cosby Show.  One episode of Empire, IIRC.  I know she had some show of her own that I've never seen. That's So Raven, right?   What else has she done that earned her all that dough?  Or did she really accumulate that fortune from just the two main shows?  Holy Crap.

I wonder how much they pay her to show up and act a fool on this show every day.  If I had fifty million dollars, you couldn't pay me enough to roll out of bed for this crapfest.

If you look at the entire picture ( just click on the photo)  it's a Charlie Chaplin costume.  Oh and she probably got all that money ( and her fan base which is why I think she was hired)  from four years of  It's So Raven   plus four years reruns plus merchandise like video games (who's a bigger merchandiser of kid shows than Disney?).  Before that she had some bit parts on Disney stuff, plus Cosby.  She has recorded a few songs for Disney movie soundtracks and has an album on a Disney label.  Her resume is pretty big for someone not even thirty.  Maybe that's why she seems to have never read a book?
