You lose that bet.  I find him repulsive, and am not attracted to her, either.  Since I am not a particularly visual person, I also find this show somewhat tedious and pretentious.  But the story is mildly interesting, and watching has become something of a habit for me.

I wasn't expecting Bedelia to be so fragile. High strung. I understand why but it still surprised me. I wouldn't think Hannibal would enjoy a high strung person but I guess Will is high strung too.

I did think that British guy looked just a bit like Will. Dark hair and eyes. But completely different energy. Knowing, cynical, full of himself.

So Bedelia wants to be on the security camera. Hannibal' s idea or hers?

Isn't Europe one of the most monitored places in the world? Wouldn't Interpol spot him easily? He did slice and dice an FBI director. Or are trains safer?

I know this show isn't logical about some details so it is a minor nit.

Eddy Izzard clanging that fork! Love his petty defiance. But I hope that's over. It has become too Boxing Helena for me.

I think Gillian did okay with her Italian. Mass is still a bit mumbly

Awwww, so bummed that Anthony is already gone. I liked him (in fact, I said, "I like you!" in Spike's voice in my head during every one of his scenes). After he survived dinner with the faux Fells, I was relieved and hoped that he would live to see at least another episode. When he didn't give away Hannibal's identity after the talk and said he couldn't stand the real Fell anyway, I thought he might have a chance of surviving and the BAM! He was cheeky and fun so I wanted to keep him around.

 

Tom Wisdom probably had to high tail it back over on Syfy's Dominion to play archangel Michael. I loved the joke in his casting. On this show he falls prey to the devil.Hopefully he'll fare better battling Lucifer at his other gig.

 

Hannibal just doesn't give a damn anymore, does he? Once he shed his people suit, he shed it but good as he's all but putting it out there what he is and daring people to call him out on it. Also he's showing a lot more arrogance in how much more obviously he plays with his food so it's no wonder

that he eventually gets caught. He's getting sloppy by being showy.

This show is so incredible. It makes me feel like nothing else on TV. There are a lot of great shows on TV, but I don't think there is a single show that manages to be as visually stunning as Hannibal manages to be episode after episode. Watching this show feels like a fever dream -- the rich colors, the scene composition, the never ending score. Unreal. I've read Fuller say this season is more operatic than procedural, and this episode definitely speaks to that.

 

It's odd to see Hannibal acting out in the open. I'm so used to this Hannibal being restrained and calculating, so it's fascinating to watch him operate from this different angle.

 

I really loved the dialog in this ep. Everything sounded like poetry.

 

And can I just say that Mads is one sexy ass beast. I'm not even mad at the shirtless scene. Give the ladies and gents that are into gents something to look at. And Gillian Anderson? Have mercy. This show is so sensual.

Dancing sequence did it for me although bless GA for subtlety hoiking up her dress at the end. Strapless dresses are uncomfortable. Mads is sexy due to his confidence. Plus I like that he has a very fit but older man's build. He isn't a model.

This week in Hannibal Tie Watch, I'm fascinated! Except for the scenes in black tie, he was otherwise tie-free! The tee shirt on the bike (bon soir to you too, mister), the open collars everywhere else. Not a Windsor knot anywhere.  And still, so glamorous. The richness in all the fabrics, the deep and velvety colors.

 

In addition to the Scott Thompson post mortem, we have the Bryan Fuller one (which contains mild spoilers about the arc of the season.)

 

For a victim that had once seemed so interested in eating himself, Abel struck me as really rather cranky. Geez: at least he didn't have to cook one-armed! I loved the black humor of him struggling with the fork and shell.

 

Was the bust that busted Dimmond's head Dante or Leonardo? I didn't quite see.

No need to duck. The people on this forum are very civil. Mileage varies. I found parts of Season 1 very tedious. Two men talking talking talking. But I was hooked eventually. Fuller seems to have a plan. I love a producer with a plan.

I felt frustrated not seeing Will and then I realized that is a good thing. When is the last time we pined to see the good guy? Hannibal' s charisma always overwhelms this story so to make us want and miss Will is such a good idea. Hannibal misses him too. I think that's why he flirted with the British guy. And I love Abel Gideon poking that sore spot.

I noticed that too attica. I also noticed that his bow tie was ever so slightly askew in that scene too. May be an accident, but you never know. My first thought in seeing Hannibal in the bow tie was "His tie is a little crooked...huh, weird". Its not by much, but it seemed out of place.

 

Then again, it could just be the camera angle and I was wrong. I will have to watch it again. I agree, Hannibal is playing wild and loose with his clothing in Europe. I like it, but I love him in a good plaid suit too.

 

I wonder what the Wendigo will be wearing this season.

Hannibal is just such a unique show.  Clearly one of the best in NBC's paltry line-up.

 

Visually stunning.  Mads and Gillian are superb together.  The chilly, simmering sexuality is fascinating. Indeed, Bedelia is evolving. Hannibal loves to play master.  The sketchy reference in other seasons to Bedelia's assault has been expounded yet I think there is more to come.  Why call Hannibal and not the police if what happened was self defense?

 

It is so compelling to watch Bedelia's attraction and repulsion dichotomy.  She is truly torn but she has made a choice.  How far will she go?

 

This episode was a nice departure from the Will/Hannibal cat and mouse game. It was necessary to see what has happened with the Lector's since the great escape.

 

What a joy it is to watch such beauty, great writing and superb acting in a tale of twisted evil.

Long time lurker. I love this show, but damn if that wasn't one of the most self-indulgent pretentious piles of crap I've seen on my TV in a long time.

Almost no noir tropes were spared: long shots without dialogue, B&W, slo-mo, forced perspective, oversaturated colors, 90 degree angle shots. The only thing missing was an evil twin.

Not to mention the near lack of any plot whatsoever. 5 minutes of story and 45 minutes of visual masturbation.

The rest if the season better not be like this.

Gorgeous episode.  My favorite moment has to be how Hannibal is mildly insulted as he explains to Bedelia that after he killed the old curator he earned his job "fair and square."  For some reason that just gave me the giggles.

Can't say I enjoyed the episode much, but I'm believer that Hannibal really is about the long story. It's one of a few shows that I've gone back and re-watched numerous times. So I think this episode will have its place, even though my initial reaction is that it was rather dull.

Raw oysters  taste like a gulp of sea water, but in a delicious way. Escargots have a very soft taste so it depends a lot on the sauce or species you're using to cook them. 

 

This episode was amazing. I missed Will, but everything was perfect! I wouldn't be surprised if Bedelia killed herself; she's fascinated by him, but I don't  think she's handling the situation very well.

I'm giddy that this show is back. I'm a fan of the first two books, but I love how the show is mixing and mashing elements from the books so that I'm still guessing about what is going on.

That being said, I need to see Will and Jack. I'm curious about Dr. Bloom's outcome, but I need to see Will and Jack for my piece of mind. Next Thursday can't come quick enough.

I read the books (Loved "Red Dragon" and "Silence of the Lambs"; hated "Hannibal" -- only hardcover I ever threw in a dumpster), and am used to horror images, but I don't know... just so stomach turning.

BUT -- Gillian Anderson is a superstar, and Hannibal as a character continues to fascinate me. I also want to see what happens with Will.

This is an episode that will require another viewing by me. I love the show and it was a feast for the eyes but it felt a bit disjointed or incohesive to me. More like a collection of beautifully filmed scenes or vignettes than a single episode.  That being said, my absolute fave part of the show were the flashbacks between Abel and Hannibal. Nothing can ever top the mushroom garden corpses for stomach churning grossness but watching Hannibal pick snails off Gideon's own severed arm (complete with suction cup sound effects) is pretty up there in this show's eww factor. How twisted was that? It seems as though Hannibal was determined to have Gideon continue to feed off his own flesh either directly or indirectly.

 

Seriously what did Bedelia expect to happen? The only thing better than her reaction to Dimmond cracking the egg of knowledge all over her that she was being fed foods traditionally given to improve the flavor of the flesh was Hannibal's amusement over her barely suppressed horror and fear. They may not be having sex but Hannibal is totally mind fucking her.

 

I still require closed captioning while watching this show. I just find Mads a bit hard to understand. Speaking of which Mads look somehow more youthful this episode. It looked like he had so much fun in those dance scenes too.

 

That professor who embarrassed Hannibal in front of the crowd at that gala? His liver is as good as pan fried and smothered in onions. I don't understand how Hannibal can eat so much organ meat and not have gout. Ewww. Also, it pains me to think of how wasteful he is. He cooks a whole human leg, serves such small portions what the hell does he do with the rest of it? I remember being bothered by this back in season 2 when he cooked a whole pig Mason Verger gave him and served about 2-3 mouthfuls to each of his guests.

Yes it is. I think Bedelia knows that too. After sauntering through Florence dressed like a fabulous Carmen Santiago in a blue hat and coat, Bedelia purchases her usual wine and truffles and inexplicably goes to an Italian train station and sits on a bench? For a minute there I thought she was gonna hop a train but nope. She sits on the bench and looks directly into the camera giving a pretty good face shot. My guess is that was an SOS to Will and/or the FBI. We'll see if that pans out.

Agreed. It's going to be really interesting to see how she tries to cope. I'm certain she's smart enough to come up with a plan if she can pull it together. Also, I'm in so much awe of her acting. Like others here and in the recap have mentioned, she'd doing 10 things at once without saying a word. But on rewatch I noticed that there's a slight relaxing of her posture every time Hannibal isn't around. Not dramatic slumping, just the hint of "I can breathe a tiny bit in this moment," that's so impressive.

I loved last night's show. It sure did feel different and more expensive but I missed Will. I thought we'd see him at the end of the episode. Hannibal's the show for me but love all the interactions. I think Hannibal was so interested in that guy because he looked like an older Will. Sorry to see him gone so soon! Anyone else wanted to see a threesome there too?

 

It was very slow moving but beautifully done. Too bad it's not got going to hold that many new viewers attention. I was lost a little with flashbacks and there's no way anyone who at least didn't watch last season will know what's going on. I'm just glad they didn't feel the need to dumb it down for new viewers!

 

I've got some mixed emotions with Bedelia. I like her character but found Gillian's portrayal of her too stiff! She was a more interesting character showing up every now and then in season two. I didn't understand some of her actions like going to the train station. Is she trying to set Hannibal up somehow or maybe she'll eventually help out Will to capture him? I'm not sure because I never read the books but I guess she can't just run away from Hannibal. He's always going to find her. She just seems like an easily manipulated person. Of course Hannibal does that to everyone! Hopefully that'll catch up with him this season.

 

Loved seeing Hannibal's lecture on Dante's Inferno. I loved seeing the devil's face projected behind Hannibal. So loving the imagery!

The show often has dark lighting to hide the gore a bit. I think going from well lit to super dark just for the gore scenes would look odd.

I agree that the show gets a tad arty but so few shows or even movies try anymore that I appreciate the effort. I have never seen Paris look so cool. Ever.

In the middle of this episode I thought the same thing. Man, this show is all about art filming and ... so self-indulgent. Not that I didn't enjoy it, but the fact that I even thought that means it was heavy handedly done. I thought anyone tuning in for the first time would be tuning out stat, unless they were art-house fans.

 

I can't say I cared for Hannibal killing that guy right away. Wish he would have played it out more. I don't like Hannibal very much out of his person suit.

In one close up of Bedelia she looked WAY old. And my tv is not HD! But otherwise, Gillian was looking good.

One thing I like about this show that hasn't happened for me in a long time is it stays with me for days after it airs! I can't stop thinking about it! I need to rewatch tonight...

 

Anyway, I noticed also the episode was much darker and it was obvious compared to the commercials. Also, I didn't find it as gory as previous ones. Someone on another message board mentioned it should be rated higher than TV-14 but I don't think there's anything higher than that on network TV. It didn't need it last night. The first two seasons so far have been gorier. I'm sure that won't last though as the season progresses.

 

Maybe he micros a snack for lunch, puts an ice pack in his little cooler to take to work with him and nukes leftovers in the office lunchroom.

I can't see Hannibal being a microwaving leftovers kind of guy. That's way below him!

So we could get that awesome image of her ENTIRE arm down Quinto's throat?  I forget how wee she is sometimes. 

 

I like that Anderson is aging like a normal person.  She's totally fit, but her face and skin look like a person who moisturizes and avoids the sun, not someone who does face peels and Botox.  I do hope we see her with a bit more spine in upcoming episodes.  As annoying as Freddie can be, she never lacks for moxie.  And I think thus far she has totally avoided Hannibal's food other than some greens. 

 

Come to think of it, I give Jack a lot of credit for stomaching all of those dinners in the second half of season 2.  He had to know he was eating someone. 

 

I wonder if Bedelia's food comment also indicated she hasn't had any of Hannibal's special dishes just yet.  She ate his veal (reluctantly).  But it is one thing to suspect and another to know. 

 

I think it's interesting that Hannibal doesn't consider what he does cannibalism because he doesn't eat his equals.  I don't recall that idea in the books.  Does that mean Misha wasn't cannibalized because she wasn't eaten by HER equals?

I hear you.  I love horror but sometimes this show is a bit much for me.  I have to turn away every time Hannibal cooks or eats something.  I won't even watch this show at night.  Oddly enough, when I was watching this morning, a heavy rainstorm blew in and the house grew eerily dark, and I felt my skin crawling. 

 

I probably won't stop watching though.  I'm far too interested in the characters and their motivations…at this point, especially Bedelia's.  She is obviously both intrigued by and terrified of Hannibal.  I looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.

Yes, and I'm finding this to be true of many of the TV shows I've been watching lately.  Sometimes I have to rely on these forums to fill in the blanks for me because I wasn't sure what I seeing because the lighting (or lack thereof) was so dark.  Is this a new thing for TV now?

Whoever does the sound for this show needs to get an Emmy and STAT.  I watched this show last night on TV and today I watched on the computer with the speakers, and it was a totally different experience today.  

 

I was kind of lost at the very end.  Was Hannibal leaving Italy?  What was that giant heart he created?  Strange.

 

I think Hannibal has mind fucked Bedelia.  I mean how can he blame HER for HIM killing Dimmond?  Hannibal's like, "It's your fault I'm killing him."  I'm like WTF, that doesn't make any sense, I'm like, dude, I'm not the one who snapped that guy's neck.  

 

What was that scene with Bedelia at the train station about?  Where was she going?  

 

I love this show.  Most TV shows are so loud and have to shove what's happening in your face because they feel you're too stupid to figure stuff out on your own.  Most TV shows want to look like real life, this show doesn't.  This show is beautiful to watch and listen to.  What's also nice is seeing two people who are over the age of forty, out front and center.
