Rick Kitchen September 14, 2015 Share September 14, 2015 Love the new Peyton Manning Nationwide Commercial. Especially when he looks at his bobblehead and starts wobbling his head. It is just so darn funny. "Never saw this one before." Does anybody know who the woman is on the cooking show he's watching? 1 Link to comment

The gas station is probably my favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0aSWpf7xTE I'd buy a Subaru just because of those dog commercials. Love 'em! Heh, heh - I hadn't seen the making out in the car one. 3 Link to comment
Trini September 17, 2015 Share September 17, 2015 Well the guy is talking about how he has to get up so often that there's no deep couch sitting for him. As in, you can't settle in when you sit. "You gotta be prepared to sit at the edge of your couch and be ready to get up. There's no deep couch sitting." He's talking about sitting. Well, alright; but the (adorable!) kid definitely says "deep couch city!" Link to comment

MrsEVH September 18, 2015 Share September 18, 2015 (edited) Just saw a new Geico commercial. A guy is in the office break room and is heating something up in the microwave. Then you hear the song, The Final Countdown and then the band Europe is playing it. Sounds corny but I love those Geico commercials with celebrities. EDITED: Thanks to Demented Daisy for posting the video. I didn't see it earlier when I posted. Now I can watch it again :) Edited September 18, 2015 by MrsEVH 3 Link to comment
Watcher0363 September 18, 2015 Share September 18, 2015 The Slim Jim commercial is truly funny. However I must ask. When did marketers figure out African Americans were not eating enough jerky products. Hood stores use to never carry jerky products. First Stephen A. Smith weird jerky commercials now this. Thanks for introducing the hood community to more unhealthy eating choices. Link to comment
LoneHaranguer September 18, 2015 Share September 18, 2015 When did marketers figure out African Americans were not eating enough jerky products. Hood stores use to never carry jerky products. There was a big sodium scare in the U.S. many years ago. People relaxed after further research indicated it to be mostly just African Americans who were susceptible to eating too much salt. The marketers probably figure that nobody remembers, so it's time to push consumption of salted meat products back up in a group that had stopped eating them for a good reason. Or, they're just ignorant and think they found an untapped market. 1 Link to comment

CoderLady September 18, 2015 Share September 18, 2015 Yeah, wow. I think they just chose two guys who looked like they could be friends who also happened to be black. As Freud said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. 8 Link to comment
Bastet September 19, 2015 Share September 19, 2015 (edited) I always get a good laugh out of the State Farm commercial with a young guy thanking his "roommates" for putting up with him - including an English accent phase ("We're lit-rally out of milk") - but he's now found his own place. xaxat September 19, 2015 Share September 19, 2015 Yeah, wow. I think they just chose two guys who looked like they could be friends who also happened to be black. As Freud said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Not when it comes to advertising. Everything is part of a plan. I'd wager big money that the casting call for that beef jerky ad was race specific. 1 Link to comment

Rinaldo September 19, 2015 Share September 19, 2015 Sure, but I think in this case it's obvious (and relatively benign) why -- there's no "and here we thought we were stranded in this centuries-ago backwater" reversal joke otherwise. 1 Link to comment

I don't know if its the kind of thing that seems to be implied it is. If anything, the Amish guy is the butt of the joke, since why on earth would he tell some random dude he was getting pictures of his mother in the mail, even as a goof? 1 Link to comment

BW Manilowe September 20, 2015 Share September 20, 2015 (edited) And where's the Amish guy's Germanic accent? It's a funny commercial, but that was when I said "whaaat?" Not all Amish have Germanic (or whatever) sounding accents. A young Amish woman comes to help at our house once a week, & she sounds as Midwestern as the rest of us. And yeah, if the Amish guy in the ad said he was getting pictures of family in the mail that's a total joke. The Amish don't "do" pictures. Edited September 20, 2015 by BW Manilowe 2 Link to comment

Maharincess September 21, 2015 Share September 21, 2015 (edited) I think the Infiniti commercial with Christie Brinkley is kind of cute - it's a take-off on the classic scene from National Lampoon's Vacation with the family father in the SUV being flirted with by a gorgeous blonde in a red sports car. The best part is when he turns to his wife and it's Christie Brinkley. I just don't know how many people remember she played the Sports Car Blonde in the original movie. This is from way back but I had to respond to the bolded part. I wonder how many people remember that Brinkley's blonde in a sports car was a rip off of the original Blonde in a White T-Bird. I wonder how many people would know that without googling. Damn, I'm old. Edited September 21, 2015 by Maharincess 3 Link to comment
